there were more than one bonobo in the story: koba was just the first villian one. i'm not going to assume or spec that he's related to either caesar or koba. as we know already caesar had two sons( his eldest son learn to speak and maurice/rocket were the last two elders apart from cornilla the kings wife) there are other apes from "other camps" the redwoods was not the only place.." think about it(the last movie there was apes, chimps, bonobos captured from across the world or region)

Crazy part is, Bonobos are apparently more peaceful then Chimpanzees! For such a villain like Koba to be a Bonobos while Ceaser is a Chimp, goes to show how much he hated humans.

      Bonobos are brutal rape-savages.
The only thing that limits their sadism is their size.
There's also a direct connection between intelligence and the appearance of sadism as a trait in a species.
That's why chimps in particular and even dolphins are capable of understanding suffering and enjoying inflicting it on other creatures for entertainment.

It's worth knowing the apes only took 300 years after gaining sentience to enter bronze age which is alarmingly fast compare to humanity IIRC.
Judging from how delicate Proximus' crown and ornament are, it's clear the apes had mastered bronze smithing and it's only a matter of time before they advance to iron age. It is implied that the apes could develop their technology even faster if they have more access to functioning human tech. They built civilization for scratch based on old stories from Caesar's time and trial and error on making sense of derelict human device.

This is interesting, because while I don't consider Mae evil, she is the villain to me. Meanwhile Proximus has many traits one would consider "evil", but I wouldn't say he's the villain. In the end, as much as he was an a*shole with a big ego and tyrannical tendencies, he did have his vision of a world ruled by apes, using technology to make their lives easier. On the other hand, Mae just wants to help her fellow humans, but she seems to completely reject the idea that humans and apes could live together in peace. I can't help but feel she would like to wipe the apes out from existence so that humans can rebuild their civilization... and make the same mistakes all over again. She keeps lying to Noa, using his kind heart to do things she knows will likely result in his and his clan's demise. She's just as much an extremist in this as Proximus. The movie "wants" us to root for the apes, and I think it succeeds, but since that is the default, then Proximus is a minor, though cruel warlord with a vision of the world that differs from the protagonist's. And Mae is the villain.

Noa is also the new ape protagonist, along with the girl he rescues.

I think Noah is a Descendant of Caesar and Proximus is a Koba descendant. My guess is either sometime in the ten years the apes lived in the red woods Koba had some kind of offspring. Some people will counter that Maurice in a book connected to the films said Koba didn’t have kids. Unless…Koba survived the fall. 1. Apes are pretty durable and have been seen to survive falls from great heights, I mean look at Caesar after Koba shot him. 2. At the end of Dawn’s credits an ape breathing which as been confirmed to be Koba by the director. 3. The original play was that Koba was going to actually physically appear in WFTPOTA but considering how much Koba hated humans he would most definitely not even join up with the army. It made more sense for previous Koba supporters to think Koba dead and then join up with the army instead. Perhaps Koba had a female follower escape with him and just booked it to get away from other apes and humans. Then they would have the offspring who would eventually result in the emergence of Proximus generations later. Maybe where Koba hated everything to do with humanity Proximus sees them as some sort of fallen gods/angels and wants to learn as much about their history to better understand his own. I bet Koba wasn’t too keen to pass the story on how he betrayed the ape equivalent of Jesus or something.

Proximus really reminds me of Caesar from Fallout New Vegas. He's right about a lot. There are divided tribes weakening the society as a whole. There are enemies out there posing as allies and conquering them will lead to greater strength and unification. He's wrong about all the nuances and desires of each group and only by generalizing them and removing their individuality can his decisions be justified. It's a very interesting take. Just like Fallout NV it's easy to call him a villain, but by prodding his motivations just a little his complexity becomes very clear. Just like NV he's actually a lot kinder in person and conversation than a lot of the troops are. He understands his motivations more than the troops, who just act and spout what they've heard without understanding the logic and philosophy
