They brought up the fact that not only did they use real models for most of the non fight scenes but that it was also filmed in a way only one other was up to that point. There was a lot of work put into this film and imo it definitely shows. But when people who actually know and understand the work compliment it I honestly think you're just wrong about the film especially for the time.
That and Reliance kinda just turned the game spinoffs into a total goatfuck that literal children are even running the wiki where 90% of the information is about their OCs whooping Zeus’ ass

Meanwhile, training Atom and building off his strengths of speed, small size, and durability? That's like Manny Pacquiao finding Freddie Roach, Mike Tyson finding Cus d'Amato, or Dwight Muhammad Qawi finding Joe Briscoe. And from the streets and junk heap, a champion was fostered.

Zeus was hollow af, did you see his bones after Atom broke the belly armor off? Nothin but hydraulics and a frame! Atom is wearing solid metal bands all over the arms, chest and head. Bet he weighs like Tungsten cubes and he definitely fought a good few that had softer hands and faces!
Actually if I remember right they showed Atom and Zeus weight in the fighting game they made for this movie. Atom and Zeus was pretty similar weights do to Atom being made from more shock absorbing material that made him heavier. He was just smaller.

If anyone wants to watch something in the same vein as Real Steel, there's an anime out there called Megalobox. It has the same premise as the movie only instead of robots boxing it's humans with exoskeleton-like enhancements called 'gear'. The main character fights in the championship, but opts to not use gear and just uses straight up talent, going under the moniker "Gearless Joe." I HIGHLY recommend it. It's a good time and has great fights.
Since Atom is a training robot, that suggests that the model was a common design once upon a time. I can't help imagine all the people who used to own these robots, or even the company that made it, watching the video of the fight and running into the back room to see if they still have their old robots somewhere.
Zeus may have deafened Atom, but he understood when Charlie said "Watch me" and straight up cooked the champion ALIVE." Kudos to Atom, he might get headbanged, shoved into a rock, even get temporarily DEAF, but he will not back down till he wins.
Funny you say he looked alive, as in the DVD commentary it was apparently revealed that there was originally going to be a scene revealing ATOM to be sentient, but they decided to cut this.

It was a hollow "victory", he only retained the tittle because of a technicality on the rules, not because he did anything to actually prove that he deserved the tittle. A hollow victory is 100 times worse than a crushing defeat, Zeus ain't never living that one down, and no one is forgething that any time soon.

Atom is built like an old Nokia phone, not the most stylish or even the most powerful, but gosh darn near indestructible.
As a kid Real Steel was my favorite movie. This gives me MASSIVE nostalgia. Thanks for bringing back good memories dude. This movie is underrated and doesn't get talked about enough.

He is literally built to take hits and never stop taking hits. After all, what good is a training bot if it's taken out easily? You can knock it out, but it's built to ALWAYS get back up. That right there is inspiration to us all.
