Baritone is really interesting vocal type because it has a lot of subtype like baryton-Martin baritone (light baritone), lyric baritone, Kavalierbariton, Verdi baritone, dramatic baritone, baryton-noble baritone, and the bass-baritone. We know Lyane Stein is a light lyric baritone ( combination) don’t know if one subtype he is, don’t know what type of baritone is Cesar de la Rosa, we know that Geoff is a bass- baritone ( also one subtype of baritone)
If I had to choose one word to describe this it would be “balanced”. Nothing overshadows anything else because it is all so good. Everyone nails their parts; Caesar and Eli on top, J being the heart at the center, Layne’s vocals and insane vocal percussion, and Geoff holding down the bass line.
Layne you sneaky devil....I was of course expecting an awesome drum/perc arrangement to to honor this classic, and I got that, but.....LAYNE! You sang solo! And I was amazed at how it fit the song perfectly! For the love of banana-splits, son, please SING MORE!!! We demand it! Anyone else agree?
Oh yes, I heartily agree! But I think he will just keep sweetly teasing us this way, with a solo line here and there, so we never quite get enough... 😏
When I heard Pentatonix, I thought “Wow! This is it!”… then VoicePlay happened onto my recommendation timeline… Having been heavily involved in Barbershop Chorus in my younger years, I know a little bit about quality harmony. I can honestly say that I have NEVER heard better, tighter harmony EVER! So glad I met your group “by (Divine) accident”! 😊❤
I'm not a huge Phil fan... but this song is insane. 1000x better than the original. These guys rock. No matter what they do... they knock it out of the park!
For those of you complaining that the drum riff was missing a beat or two or whatever, I think you’re missing the point of Voiceplay. It was obviously an ARTISTIC CHOICE as they aren’t just covering songs, they’re creating musical masterpieces with their own creative twists. I’m Gen X, a huge Phil Collins fan and I absolutely love what they did with this song! They not only showed mad respect to him but made it their own and it’s perfection!!
It's also a cover and not the real thing. You also have to consider they are not actually drums and he's doing that himself so lay off the complaints alright?!?!
Oh my goodness have only just found you, I'm 75 and Phil was one of my favourites when he left Genesis! His solo career took off. Loved your rendition 👏👏👏😚
This was so awesome to hear the vocals were perfection... Geoff singing in all his ranges floors me everytime BUT DAMN Layne's drum solo is godly n he NEEDS to sing more solos just saying
Who else was on the edge of their seat waiting for Layne to hit that iconic drum intro. Another great job guys!! Y'all knock it out of the park every time.
This song is completely amazing. Valhalla Calling stunned me with its epicness, but this song has completely left me stunned from its beauty. From low to high, or in Voiceplay terms, Geoff to Eli, this song checks every box. Cesar beautifully rocks it, Eli goes to the heavens and destroys it, J. None absolutely slays the lead, Layne proves to us that he swallowed a drum kit as a child, and Geoff does Geoff. He goes to the core of the earth and finds the tectonic plates and shakes them. Amazing song guys! You never cease to amaze me❤
oh that Eil Jacobson, he is definitely shine in this for his vocal type is tenor 2 or low tenor even for his the most accurate rock n’roll perching high notes so clean and sometimes with rustic and grit but mostly so clean and strong that we didn’t recognize his tambour of his voice.
WOW! Why? Why did it take me so long, to push play? Because... I have to tell you, I was really afraid! I love the song so much, I love to listen to Phil Collins. To cover a song I love so much? When I was a teen, to cover a song meant, to produce a cheap music tape, yes, a TAPE, record the same song, the same way but with an unknown performer and believe me, for the most part the outcome was absolutely horrible! Sadly, it took me a long time, to discover the treasures, youtube has to provide. To discover Voiceplay and Geoff Castellucci. But now I am here and I have to go and listen to ALL VP songs, yes, songs, because the word COVER can´t do this justice at all! Thank You Voiceplay, to play so beautifully with your voices! Please, don´t ever stop!
As a Phil Collins fan my first thought was that nothing can beat the epicness of that sitdown drum fill in the video. But I have to say you guys really made my day and came out with a really phenomenal version! Everybody had their time to shine and did it epically!!! Great job to all!!!
The original was very special to me. This rendition has taken a place in my heart right beside the original. So different yet so overwhelmingly good. I’ve watched it a gazillion times on Patreon and I loooove it!🎶🥰❤️
So beautiful! I could listen to this over and over! Every single one of them could be stars on their own but together they make magic! Lots of love from east Tennessee!!
Again, a note with an artistic soul: Phil Collins' songs have inspired many of my work in the past. Guys, I was really touched by this amazing cover! With each song, you bring back a little diamond from the past that would be lost without VoicePlay. The sounds are perfect, as always, and so is the harmony and attention with which you highlight each other. Thank you, for this wonderful journey, feeling and experience! In one sentence: In The Air Tonight + VoicePlay ft. J.None + acapella = Perfect balance.💚
Oh Lord, what can I say!? The reverb coming from J- None is Crazy! Eli coming through with that beautiful rock vibe! Cesar with that ridiculously perfect pitch and push! Geoff coming in with that steady, smooth bass. Layne coming with that crisp solo and brings the whole thing home with that iconic drum solo!! No Clue how you do but please don't stop!!!
I think this might just be the best cover of "In the air tonight" that i have heard yet. Voiceplay is such a great accapell group. They can make just about any sing sound great. Thank you for blessing us with such a great rendition of this song. ❤️ 👍👏
YOU'RE ALL BACK TOGETHER!!!!! No one is allowed to leave. Ok what do I say that I haven't already said? Mr. Collins would love your version. You All do it over and over. Youvare THE BEST ACAPELLA GROUP. Im not kidding. Each and everyone of you has immense rakent. From the first note/chord, i knew it was going to blow the roof off. I love all of you, you nake me feel so good listening to you sing. BRAVO Phenomenonal, Outstanding, A joy to listen to. Thank you!! Going back to listen tonit again. ❤🎉❤🎉❤🎉❤🎉❤🎉
You guys could not have done this better if you tried. I was a huge Phil Collins fans in high school and this was perfection. And having J take the lead was a no-brainer. So, so, so good.
This arrangement is fire. J.none is amazing. Cesar and Eli with the belts are on fire. The harmonies superb. I love Layne verse is was nice a delicate but still powerful. Geoff amazing and graceful. Set is amazing. Love it
I’ve been watching these young men for several years ,they never disappoint! Such control with each voice, how wonderful to be able to sing together with such passion
Lovely Layne got to sing which is rare 🥹 J-none got to use a falsetto which is beautiful Geoff with the bass 💪🏾 Cesar with the the Sass 🔥 Well-done @Voice play for this wonderful cover
Yikes! Is it possible to be a groupie for an acapella group...cuz I am. Ive been a sucker for a sweet tenor but since *experiencing* Geoff Im bass allllll the way! Im right down there with him. My headphones are vibrating and so am I. Guys you are AWESOME. 💖
It's so cool in these comments, to see about an equal number of people who already loved this song, and people who didn't much care for it, all loving this cover. This is that kind of song - you love it or hate it(or are sick of it)... And VoicePlay is that kind of group - everything they touch turns to gold.
The 'In the Air Tonight' scene from Miami Vice is regularly cited as one of the greatest, if not most influencial moments in the history of television. Well this cover is the greatest, if not most influencial moment in history of music!
Each of the guys' voices fit this song so perfectly, it's crazy....or maybe that's Layne's out-of-this-world arranging skills....or perhaps a bit of both? Either way, this one is beyond epic.
But what harmony between your voices, which are instruments in their pure state. On this very beautiful song, the staging is sober. I am in love with your musical group. Kisses in my part of France (near Belgium) where we have had snow since this morning. Take care of yourself and your loved ones.
Okay growing up I loved and still love Phil Collins and this song is one I didn't think anyone else could do it justice but boy I was wrong! They took it and paid respect to the original and made their own,
I've become a fan of a lot of 70s stuff (including Genesis) in the time since I had my acapella rampage, nice to see Lucci and friends have gotten with the times.
OUT OF THIS GALAXY! I love the foot stomping! J.None, you ROCK! Love the close harmony. Always enjoy it when Layne sings! 100 diamonds out of 100. BRAVISSIMO!
My Freakin Goodness! Not only have I sent this to a ton of people, but I've sat here and listened?watched this video at least eight times. Wow! And after viewing the other Videos that I've been enjoying, I was so skeptical. But this is a perfect video. For real, For real
I've never been a fan of this song but this version just blew me away! It rocked! Everyone had their moment and I loved hearing Layne take a bit of a vocal lead and Cesar's lower range. Fantastic!!
Same here. I don’t particularly like listening to Phil Collins and held back listening to this arrangement. My mistake. VoicePlay always knock it out of the park ❤️
Aayayayaaaaaaaaay that last verse of Geoff solo @04:36, going deep-deep and then those sweet tender last harmonies and verses following it up in the very end... i must report parts of my heart and body have melted beyond repair 😅😢🪔
Layne has been waiting all his life to recreate that iconic drum riff!
True, but he left out the last beat! It just felt incomplete to me :D
LMBO!!!! YES!! LOL!!

Agreed!

All of that, they are so impeccable for what they do and the low of the lowest notes in the underworld by Geoff and the sounds / fx are on point.
Very true!
This is perfection. Brings me back to high school. The static and stomping their feet. Oh my God.
it was so refreshing to hear layne's vocals there!!!
@@offthecufff : so soothing but angelic tambour but rockn’roll turnout on his voice.
