Very helpful. By recording on your laptop (without a secondary monitor) are you limiting yourself to 1080? Do you normally publish your videos to TH-cam through Camtasia or upload through Studio? Lastly, when you are recording live, do you use any type of switchbox for your cameras. Let’s say you want to show something from overhead versus a front facing camera.
If you're referring to your screen recordings, then yes, you would only be able to record a screen in 1080p if recording on a 1080p screen. HOWEVER, if you're making a 4K video where the camera is recording in 4K, then you can still edit that 4K video in Camtasia, even though your monitor is 1080p. You just won't be able to see the increased resolution of the video you're making on your monitor... but others watching your finished video on a 4K monitor will. Also, you can add your 1080p screen recordings to your 4K video and simply upscale them to fit in the larger canvas area (3840 x 2160 for 4K)... that's no problem. As for TH-cam, I export from Camtasia as an mp4 and then I use TH-cam Studio to upload to youtube... that's just the "flow" I've gotten used to. And your last question... I do use an ATEM Mini Pro HDMI switcher to switch between cameras when I live stream, yes. However, I do not use that when I'm recording a video that I'm going to edit for youtube later, because it's limited to 1080p AND I want the ability to change camera angles during the editing process. SO what I do is I record all my cameras INTERNALLY to an SD card (or if my iPhone is one of the cameras I record it internally)... then I transfer all those recordings to my Macbook, organize, then import all into Camtasia, Sync everything together, then edit. I then have the freedom to switch angles at will (I lock it in when I edit), and also I can have multiple cameras in the canvas at once if I want. I hope that helps :-)
Thanks !!! Is it possible to make recording of Camtasia project itself, I tried and got some big error, not supported format. I assume it's not b'z when I open recorder it kicked me out of Camtasia. The reason I do this, b'z I like to do some quick reverse on sport video moving slider on the timeline back and force, it's great for instcutcion. Thanks

Hello, great video by the way I want to start doing music, recording tutorials with pro tools software. When you say that the system audio will be recording would that be the audio coming from my interface? I want to use the actual sound coming from the software in ProTools to be included with the video. Thank you.
I am not familiar with Pro Tools so can't comment on that specifically... but generally speaking, "system audio" is any sound coming from your computer. For example, if recording your screen and you play a youtube video in your recording so that you can hear the audio from the video, that audio will be captured... it is system audio.
Thank you for your video. It is greatly appreciated. I am new to using camtasia 2023 to record my screen - imac - but have used it for years to do basic editing of videos recorded on a camera. 1) I have been using a blue yeti microphone, a Logitech MX brio WebCam and I have been recording a set of Google slides in presentation mode sized to be just in the middle of my screen. 2) With screen recording, camtasia 2023 and then 2024 has been crashing over and over - usually I don't see a problem until I go to press 'stop recording' maybe after say 15 minutes and then it either crashes and disappears or just does not respond. So the project is wasted I have reported the problem but I really have not got a fix to the problem. 3) One thing I notice is you record the whole screen - which I think on my System I would be pressing 'built in retina display' - whereas I was recording originally 1280 x 720 and then stretching it to fit the size of the slides on my screen. I have now tried using 1280 x 720 and making the slides smaller to fit the 1280 x 720 given to me by camtasia. Making these changes did not help unfortunately I apologise for that being rather rambling but as you can probably see, I'm pretty stressed over this. I'm wondering if you have any suggestions. I realise you're not my personal helper but any assistance you give would be greatly appreciated
I'm sorry you're having so much trouble with the screen recorder... I haven't run into this issue. The first thing that comes to mind is the speed/power of your computer... is it older? Try to make sure no other programs are open and running in your computer except for what you're recording to try to minimize RAM and processor usage. It shouldn't matter whether you're recording full screen or a portion of your screen. If you continue to run into problems unfortunately I have to refer you to TechSmith's tech support as I can't really help unfortunately.
Where have you been all my life!! Explained so well - if you were advising me from my 18th - damn - things might have been different!! ;-) Very well delivered - THANK YOU
Hey Rob thanks for all your knowledge and videos, they are so helpful. I have a question. Do you have a video explaining on how to do this. I have two videos a screen recording and a video I took with my phone with audio. How do you cut back and forth, for example having my phone video full screen, then cut back to me in a circle with the screen recording going and then cut back to my phone video full screen.Thanks.
I'm glad you find them helpful :-) Here... this video I made several months ago might help: th-cam.com/video/HEbo-Z1eyhk/w-d-xo.htmlsi=ouiSNBZymtoOGYZM
I really liked how to do 1080p area recording on a 4K monitor. I always struggle having to edit out the end where the recording shows me stopping the recording when I use the entire screen as 1080p
If you want to hide the screen recording at any point in your video and only show the camera recording, then just put the camera clip on the track above the screen recording clip and the screen recording will be hidden :)
THANK YOU VERY MUCH ROB ON YOUR GREAT VIDEOS. I HAVE A GREAT ISSUE WITH THE CAMTASIA 2023 RECORDER AND NOBODY IN THE SUPPORT SOLVED IT. I CERTAINLY THINK IT IS A BUG IN THE RECORDER BECAUSE IN THE OLDER VERSION I HAD (IN CAMTASIA 9) EVERYTHING WAS GOOD. WHEN I RECORD MY WORK FROM ADOBE ILLUSTRATOR IT DOES THE WORK BUT WHEN I START EDITING IN THE FIRST MINUTE OF THE PLAYING IT DAMAGES ALL THE COLORS. MAYBE YOU CAN SOLVE IT? THANK YOU VERY MUCH. ILANA
This is something you'll have to go through Camtasia tech support for as it's not something I have any experience with. I don't see how the Camtasia recorder could alter the colors. I suggest documenting exactly what you do step by step so that they can try to replicate the issues and then they'd have a better chance at being able to solve it for you. I hope that helps :-)
Hello Ilana. I'm really sorry to hear about your problem. I have only recently started to use the screen rorting recording function but I have had major problems. It keeps crashing or becomes unresponsive and this is after screen recording of say 15 minutes maximum.

Can you make a video on how to insert a new video clip into a track but retain the same audio(narration) ? Camtasia does not, I repeat, does not have a tutorial explaining this. Thank you
Yes I can totally do that. Specifically, are you referring to inserting a new "screen recording" video into a project that already has voiceover? In other words, you want to replace the screen recording by making another one?
@@RobtheMaritimer Yes. What I wanna do Is show the house of the person I am talking about in my video segment (a video clip that shows the Hollywood hills house) and narration (audio track) is uninterrupted at all. So, only video segments change but audio does not.
Ok, got it. If your audio and video are in a Camtasia project on SEPARATE tracks, then it's super simple... simply delete the video clip from its track but don't delete the audio... then put the new video clip in place of the old one. If the timing isn't exactly right you can either trim some from the beginning or end of the new video, OR you can add "Clip Speed" and either speed up or slow down the new video clip until it matches the existing audio. IF your existing video and audio are NOT on separate tracks... they're combined in one track, then right click the clip and select "Separate Video and Audio" and they'll be separated onto separate tracks... then you can do what I explained above. IF the new video you're bringing in has audio in it that you don't want, you can right click it once its in Camtasia and select "silence audio"... or "separate audio and video" and then delete the audio track once they're separated. Sorry for the long response, but hopefully that helps! I've added this to my list of videos to create :-)
