Even though I had a cold, I wanted to get this video for you all so that you know the subscription choices are different from what is mentioned in my prior videos.
Thanks Heather very helpfull;-) - New subscriber! I'm looking to buy Camtasia (and/or) Snagit. Learned a lot on the comments below as well. If you have tips? Is there also a big difference of the Camtasia version Essentials vs Create?
Hi, the biggest difference between Essentials and Create is that Create includes Audiate. This is a software that you can use to do text based editing on a video. For example, I was editing a video from a live session and the instructor said UMH several times. I wanted to take those out but it would take too long to do it manually. I ran the video through Audiate and said take out Ums. It remove, I kid you not, 980 instances of UMH in a 2 hour video. That would have take me days manually. It also can generate AI scripts and well as create a AI voice track. I have not used those last two since a I am a control freak about my scripts and find AI voices creepy. Even the 'good' ones seem off to me so I don't use them.
Thanks for the video. I'm still using 2023, my biggest complaint is that if you get a new license for a new version for whatever reason (for me work pays for it) you lose the previous years assets. For example been using it since 2021 but everything in the 2021 Camtasia library is now not available. I don't understand why they get rid of some things. Anyhow, thanks again for the video.
Hi, if you have access to the old versions the trick I learned is to export the library and the reimport it into the new version as an additional library. In 2020 I did not realize that but in 2021 I figured it out so now have my 2021, 2022, and now the current 2023 libraries.
My favourite update to 2024 is the Dynamic Captions, I thought the rest of the updates were fluff to be honest. I have a maintenance licence, which TechSmith is going to honour for the next five years (as long as I don’t cancel it). The maintenance license is definitely a lot cheaper, are the frequent updates worth it? The jury is still out!
@@HeatherMajors I just doubled checked the FAQ: Camtasia Plans are for individual subscription holders. Current Camtasia maintenance holders will receive a Business License Key when Camtasia 2025 is released in the fall. Your Business License will grant access to the same software features and functionality as the Camtasia Essentials individual subscription, just priced at a lower annual renewal rate for at least the next five years. We appreciate your investment in our software. We will continue to honor your active maintenance agreement and provide access to all new versions, including future subscription offerings.
@@squareggs@squareggs Now that you say it, I remember reading that, but the details got away from my brain during recording. I am grateful that you looked that up and shared your learning with everyone who is reading along. Learning together at its best.
I still use Camtasia to this day and every year I am blown away by how little they bother to add each year. This one its almost laughable. They had a winning formula for sure. I still cant make videos and complicated effects in DaVinci as fast as in Camtasia but I swear TechSmith just wakes up 2 week before the next launch date and just cobble something minor up and just move to some thing else. And as always, the install file still doesn't even have the version number on it. Still, thanks for the video.
I hear you on that and that is actually why I did not do a video a couple of years ago on the updates because they were not worth mentioning. I guess like another person posted, we will have to wait and see if the subscription publishing schedule gives us new features more often that are worth the expense. Since I am primarily a Microsoft instructor, this reminds me of the shift from buying office on a disk every few years to the sub model but we get features and updates often. Only time will tell. Also people keep mentioning DaVinci...I must be behind on this and should catch up. 😊
@@HeatherMajors Well DaVinci is a whole another beast with tons complex functions for effects, sound and color design. Altough very cool in multiple aspects (+ it's free) , I still prefer Camtasia simplicity (and thanks to those update it will stay simple for long time). But if you are into Microsoft, make a video about all the amazing features the new Outlook brings and how the users totally do not have several pin ridden woodoo dolls of a CEO who came up with that idea :)
@@littlehopeleft@littlehopeleft Don't get me wrong, I will still use Camtasia if for no other reason than it is the software that security cleared at my job. I was just thinking it might be fun to learn something new with DaVinci since several people mentioned it to me recently. As to Outlook, you are correct I need to update my video. Funny you say Pin (though in a different context) the Pin feature has been my favorite in the online version and I was so happy to see it made it to the desktop version.
Honestly, your video for the 2024 update is all you really need. This has been just about the most meagre update from Techsmith I have seen, but ok I'll take it. Thank you for sharing.
I hear you. Since I have done editing videos about them in the past, it felt like the honest thing to do to be up front about candid. Thanks for checking out the video.
I was really hoping they would make some much needed technical updates but instead they are focused on other stuff. For example, Camtasia _still_ doesn't support AV1 (encode or decode). It outputs embedded audio in old-school 44.1kHz instead of the industry standard of 48kHz for HD videos. The interface is just too dumbed down for anyone that is even slightly technical. I get that other tools are _too_ technical, but at least give me a few options hidden behind an advanced tab or something. If you don't care about the tech specs and just want something super simple to push content to TH-cam - and it's been a few years since your last update - then it might be worth it.
Jason, thanks for sharing. I don't know a lot about audio so your perspective is very interesting. Especially given how much they charge for Audiate that is supposed to improve the audio. I tried Audiate and it was wasted on me.
I have a tough time with the iconic RE20 knock off. The mic has been a staple for decades. It really bothers me to see this design copied not to mention an unnecessary $65 pop filter on a mic under $200. You could have purchased the real deal for slightly more and with proper technique no filter needed.
Are talking about my Rode Mic? I don't know a lot about audio so I bought something that was recommended. Never heard of an RE20 until I read your post, so I did learn something new and that is always a plus. Also, I don't disagree with you about technique, that some people are amazing at controlling their voice when recording. I don't claim to be that amazing yet. Thank you for sharing something that I can research. Do you happen to know of resources that would help me develop my skill speaking to the mic?

Yes Exactly this. Thank you for adding the extra context about the maintenance.

Thanks for the kind words. Glad you find my content helpful.
Great Video,, Thank you, perhaps I will try Camtasia
