Just a heads up, Patch 1.06 has added a way to do Varre's quest without going online. There's a place in Altus Plateau called Writheblood Ruins where you can invade an NPC there and after that, you can continue the quest. Edit: I should mention that you don't need to WIN the invasion, you just need to invade the guy 3 times and you get your reward from Varré. Fair warning BTW, the place is teeming with Scarlet Rot Dogs.
As I'm sure someone else in the comments will mention, you only need to take out that third white mask invader to get the surgeon's set. The other two can be skipped. But do know that they will not invade after you've defeated Mohg so if you want the white mask you have to beat that guy at the far end of the lake before you defeat the boss.
I defeated Varre before getting invaded by his three buddies so I sadly missed out on the armor set because it seems once Varre is dead the other three no longer show up. Woe is me!
Damn, I messed up too. I thought I’d get his costume after beating him directly. 😂 Edit: Killing Varre at the red summoning will not despawn the other three. Save Mohg for last!
I had a super fun experience doing this quest. I’ve never invaded before and popped up in Leyndell and I was creeping around all afraid and it took me WAYY too long to realize that enemies ignore you… I found the host and waved, and he was busy attacking enemies so I just started cheering him on with emotes… lol then I saw which direction he was going and he was struggling a bit so I started to rub ahead and point out ambushes and strong enemies to him, and we just adventured together for a bit until he got taken out by the pair of knights by the dragons foot. I love how this game lets you have such odd and fun experiences! If you ever get a mage invader with no weapon waving like a dummy, be nice… because it’s probably me and I’ll be your adventure buddy! I’m definitely going to try to do more of that and see if I can get people to trust me.
This is exactly why I haven't beat it yet( past having 3 character builds I rotate through) I keep exploring and trying to conplete npc quests before I get too far( right before fire giant main character).
Great Video! Theres one more thing with Varre that is worth mentioning though: After you defeat Godrik but before meeting Varre in Liurnia ... you can get the BRAVO! gesture by going to his original location and reading a message there left by him. As far as i know that is the only way to get this gesture and it is HIGHLY MISSABLE.
If you can, beat Mohg first, worse case if he spanks you the first few times, you got one of the best rune farms in the game right there. I'm getting kinda glad I'm in ng+, my character/ gear is strong AF. Good luck guys
Varre has more dialogue if you return to him occasionally as you progress before he leaves that first location. He basically just acknowledges your progress and reiterates having to acquire a great tune. Just thought it was interesting bc I had never previously returned to him, so I never knew he said anything more prior to meeting him at the rose church.
A little side note, you do not need to defeat the nameless white masks in order to invade varre, however i think that once you kill varre you cannot get invaded by the nameless white masks (not confirmed)
For anyone who is working on this to get to Mogh for the upcoming DLC, I happened to beat Varre during the invasion first, then went back to get the three White Masked invaders. They still spawned for me. You'll know for certain when the game kicks you off your horse in their invasion zones. This allowed me to get the armor set, and then talk to Varre to get the bouquet near the invasion spot.
I think that third white mask you killed is always the one that drops the War Surgeons set. I killed him first and immediately got that gear. They also conveniently spawn entirely independent of his quest, so you can always get that lovely bleed buffing mask whether you've dealt with Varre or not.
100%. Perfect for NG+ or my next character. I looked up a few online after doing bits and pieces of others to make sure I got all of Ranni's quest done and it was extremely eye opening for just how much I'd missed.

Yeahhhh...i attacked him immediately just to see what would happen, then thought i had to kill him since his aggro didn't go away after he killed me or resting. Whoopsie 🙃
@@The_Ragequit_Cannon just a note to everyone else turtle pope will reset his aggro but not revive him if hes dead. A lot of people say it will revive him but it won't.
@@EllioGatieSmh 🤦🏾♂️Yea I started my first playthrough the other day and I accidentally hit him twice..he wouldn't stop attacking and didn't know you shouldn't do that to NPCs with quest. But then I figured out there was a way to get them to forgive you and get rid of the aggro 🙏🏾😆

This is absolutely a series of videos which is much, much needed. Those of us new to souls games are in need of all the help we can get! 10 outta 10 for this!
At the Precise of Anticipation there are the Stormhawk Ashes and Stormhawk Deenh. When you go out of the chapel doors where the finger maiden is, go to the left (right if you're facing the doors from the outside). There's a small door and up the stairs are the ashes, and inside the chapel on the 2nd floor is a chest with the Deenh in it!
I really like your videos. It always takes me out when you say “very unique” or “most unique.” Unique means there’s only one, and no modifiers are needed.

I initially believed Varre cut your finger off, but upon inspection of the bloody finger, the finger does not looked decayed and the inscription states, "The nail of this finger is shot through with streaks of fresh, glistening blood. The finger's sickly pale skin feels nothing now, but the nail still aches with sweetest pain." The dude just injected your finger with infected blood under your nail. Honestly not sure which would be worse.
I'm not sure why but I had to do just a single invasion to progress the quest. Maybe because I did it in ng+ and the game somehow counted the vulcano manor invasions from ng for some reason or its just a quirk of ng+, because even Edgar invaded me in liurnia although I didn't touch his / Irinas questline at all during that game cycle (did it in ng though).

After completing his quest line on the first playthrough I found it satisfying to boink him into oblivion with the giant crusher for calling me Lambkin upon starting ng+
Yes keep the series going I'm in the late game but I'd like to know if I missed anything. Also I knew I shouldn't have killed Rya, I figured that's what she wanted so I helped her out.

I know I'm late to the party, but I've only just found your videos! Been loving the randomizer playthrough. Also, maybe put in an update for this that since 1.06 you don't actually /have/ to invade PC's. They added an NPC for that! And also, he doesn't actually cut off your finger and give it back, he gives you a transfusion from under your fingernail. Which explains the tortured screaming your character makes! I'm sure you've been told all this, before but I actually love your vids and your attitude is *chef kiss*
It's worth pointing out that if you kill Mohg then the three invasion NPC's won't spawn. I defeated two of them with n idea there was a third and now I'm locked out of completing his quest, which is really annoying because I'm using a bleed build and his mask would really come in handy!

I don't have internet... my house is miles from everything, back in the woods, so am I "S.O.L." since I can't invade other players? It would be nice if I could just go to a place in elden ring and use the finger to invade a PvE npc

Varré's quest line was one of the only ones I didn't do coz I was playing offline!

Killed him within 20 hours of game, never had any nameless white masks.

killed him at mohgs place, still got invaded. It was before I beat mohg though.
The white mask wouldn’t spawn for me either, even after reloading. so I gave varre the 2 piece and went on my way.

There are two maidens in which u can soak the blood from. One from the beginning of the game. And the other one close to that frenzy tower place

Great video! I didn't bother with killing the White Masks. I just led them to the precipice and gravity took care of both of us.
