My only major complaint with this game is the quest progression. Too often it means finding people who've moved, with absolutely no clue as to where they moved to. You have to rely on luck, scour the whole map repeatedly, or just look it up on the wiki.
I started playing a character where I've been scouting the map, and questlines have felt fluid and make sense because I'm not looking for them specifically, I'm looking for everything. That being said, total 100% of limgrave/weeping/stormveil alone took me 50 hours... currently working on liurnia, but this is where quests start to double back and jump up to altus. Not looking forward to figuring that out while going region by region
@@raijinoflimgrave8708 this is what I've done. 170 hours to get to the city. Then I find out I killed to many bosses to get invaded at revenge shack. Hopefully they add an extra grape somewhere.
classic soulsborne tbh, if everything was handheld/easy to find you could blow through the game and be done with it, and with a game like this i dont want to be done with it or "just get it done"
The vagueness of quests is one of the things people complain about that I really cant argue. Often times these npcs dont give you any idea that you are meant to do anything for them and some even say they are leaving and I just assume I wont see them again. I dont need a game to hold my hand and show me exactly where to go on the map but man these quests can be cryptic.
@R D No man its lazy quest design and people make excuses because everything else is so good. The ere are examples in this game where they did it right for example Blaidd and Alexander will tell you the next area to meet them. While others are cryptic but also do not account for the fact that in an open world game you may have already been to the area they go to next and have no reason to go back unless you know they will be there.
I agree with this I’m level 158 and barely finding out there are quests that I’ve missed and boy do you have to watch tutorials on how to complete them! I’m not mad but perhaps a quest tracker would be great
Yeah... A simple journal/quest tracker would be great. Unless they're trying to take it back to ttrpgs and pc games in the 90s where you had to write down all your notes or try to remember 🤣
@@Bearwiffa228 That's nonsense. The old games were limited by data and so many things when deciding not to add stuff like that. Not to mention the sheer scale of this game dwarves anything those developers could have ever imagined possible. I remember having to write stuff down while playing games as a kid of the 90's but times evolve for the better and in my opinion these excuses are nothing more than that. Fromsoft made a great game in so many ways but in terms of the UI, menus and other little details they fell short because they did not account for the open nature of the game completely making their normal quest design lacking and in some cases confusing as NPC's would visit areas the player had already cleared and had no real reason to revisit. These things do not take away from the game but are the reasons why I would personally only give the game a 9/10 and not a 10.

THIS is the only Elden Ring content we need. Not all these TH-camrs like "OMG, INSANE SECRET ITEM 98.25% OF PLAYERS MISSED! BROKEN OP, SHOULDN'T EXIST!!" Proceeds to be a video about the Mantis Blade or Wing of Astel or some shit
I haven't watched those videos but you can see how many people get achievements on steam, and I'm already defeating achievement bosses that less than 20% people beat... It's not farfetched to think that some items are only picked up by 2% of people.
Actually... the HARDEST thing about Souls series was never the combat, but rather not missing the questlines and NPC-associated items. This always scared me the most: to do something that would cut a quest short, denying myself further interactions and unique assets. Simply entering a level, skipping a summon, not talking enough or giving a wrong answer can ruin such things for the whole playthrough, locking the player out of content.
which isn't a bad thing though because it adds replay-value. there always seems to be something new you can discover. if the game told you everything, then there is nothing to discover and the community of these games wouldn't exist like it does. these games are designed with "exploration" and "adventure" in mind. same philosophy of old games like Zelda.
The “Bolt of Gransax” Legendary weapon located in the capital city is unobtainable once you kill Maliketh. It’s required for a Platinum Trophy/ All Achievements.
The Legendary “Bolt of Gransax” spear, found on the giant spear in the capital, is also missable if you don’t pick it up before getting to farum azula.

I really like this style of time stamps way more than your other Missable videos. I can skim through the "before this thing/boss" and easily know where to stop in my game before I break/miss something. I can safely play my own adventure until that "Danger!" point. Very very, VERY much appreciated. I just wish the other descriptions had lists in this style.
I enjoy finding stuff out on my own through gameplay, and I make it a point to keep from spoiling. Then I saw how much I missed in terms of quests. Definitely the story and quests are a major weakness in what is otherwise an amazing game. Basically, players are highly encouraged to look this stuff up while playing and thereby spoiling the quest/story/NPC aspect.
I found by paying attention to the dialogue and searching all areas before moving on helped me with quest progressions. I'm almost at end game and have managed to get most quests started or done. I'm just here to see if anything is left. I think they've always done it this way to make each playthrough feel different
I disagree... games lay things out way too easily these days. Pay attention to dialogue, inspect individual items lore and use your head. You'll have the time of your life if you're willing to put the effort in.

When exploring Volcano Manor, I found Rykard so I fought him. Come to find out later that this action cleared out like 5 different quest lines. And you can’t go back to an earlier save or anything. There should be a happy medium between these two styles
if yopu save Selvus potion and give it to Dung (at the stage where you can start giving him curses) he can become a puppet that you get in selvus hidden lab (where You got the new bodyt for Sellen) and get him as a summonable puppet, quite tanky too..
There is a shabiri grape in the petrified ruins in South Eastern Lunaria. It's in a cellar. You need to roll on it to break the floor. There is also a "two fingers talisman" that raises faith by 5.
You actually can do Alexander’s quest after completing the game I just finished it and I completed the game a while ago, I was just scavenging for weapons, armor, etc and found Alexander by the magma worm in Mount Gelmir

What's up Shatter, just FYI, the patch that came out a few days agov.1.05 finally fixed Alexander from being stuck in Caelid. I did everything I could but he has never moved from Radahns arena for a month on my main playthrough that I refuse to select an ending for lol. I logged in yesterday and he finally moved to his final destination(sparing spoilers for those who care ;) ). Just for your reference sir, for future videos. I enjoy your content, take care!
You can also get locked out of Seluvis' quest for the magic scorpion talisman even just by picking up the fingerslayer blade or something, without giving it to Ranni yet and getting him killed. I don't know exactly what it was but I got to a point where he wouldn't give me the quest even with everything before it done and I can only figure that was the problem
He will only give you the quest if you discover his dungeon and read the message there. You just also give his potion to either Nepheli, Gideon or Dung Eater.
i really like the game and all, but with how big the world is and how easy it is to mess up or miss quests, i really think there shouldve been some sort of quest markers or quest journal, even if its just to keep track of of all those different story and quest lines. i know, i know, ppl praise fromsoft games for not having those features, but until now their games were very linear, unlike elden ring. and not having any of those features just results in googeling non stop, looking things up and stressing about not progressing too quickly or messing things up. actually poorly designed.
It’s like the developers expect you to be taking notes every time you interact with a NPC. A simple quest tracker would have been helpful to track where we are with NPCs and what remaining steps need to be done to complete them.
I subscribe. Not only do you explain it all in great detail but you have a ton of information that I would probably miss out on in my first and second run. And I want 100% achievements in this game after NG+ and YOU have probably helped me with that. Ty
You can kill edgar while he's weeping at Irina 's body and still get his grape. He will not invade later if you do so. However if you return to where you kill him, the grape will just be sitting there.
I can attest to the Alexander bug where he's locked into Radahn's grace site. I never did the first part where he got stuck in Limgrave but I was there for everything else. For me, Alexander left for Radahn's grace site right after I summoned him and beat the Fire Giant fight. He literally only had 1 spawn point left and he refuses to move to Farum Azula for the finale in his quest so I'm locked out of his talisman until NG+
maybe it was a bug, but i suspect this "bug" may be players not realizing that (as far as i know) Alexander in Radahn's arena is the only time an NPC will repeat their 'final' dialogue more than once when speaking to them, and yet *not actually be done giving out new dialogue* if you spam speaking to him some more.
Im pretty sure you can kill Rykard and then do the third invasion quest in the mountaintops after. When you come back to volcano manor the reward should be at the table where you got the letter
Really? Both playthroughs I waited to fight Rykard until after I got to the mountaintops and killed Juno. Meaning I was over leveled by that point. Good to know you don’t have to do it like that.
I really hate how Elden Ring locks you out of questlines, especially given its huge open world design. I can see why From Software used to have this system in the older titles, but now the amount of questlines that are canceled is absurd. I have no problem going for a NG+ run, but having about 10 questlines ruined I am not motivated to keep track of that mess anymore. I really want something like bonfire aesthetics to be a possible fix for those incidents. Damn, this sucks.
This is exactly the video I've been wanting and I haven't even watched it yet. That title is it tho, I been using all your quest guides cuz I missed alot on my first play through side quest wise. But theyr all like half done because you need to progress the side quest as you progress the story. So knowing what to have done, and when is confusing

The one quest that baffle me is that if you're really adventurous and find sellen quest specific spell before raya lucaria, you can summon her for wolf of radagon fight

6:20, you can kill hikard even without access to leindel castle, as long as you have the last two quest, the one inside leindel castle, and the one at the winter peninsula, you can kill haikard, just be aware that you can't talk to the others npc until you finish both invasions quests. I do this when going for Haikard as first boss without losing volcano quests/itens. Do all volcano quests until you only get the last two, that will be impossible to do as you don't have access to laindel yet. then kill haikard and don't speak to any npc there until you finish both invasions.
For anyone that comes across this, I was able to finish Irinas quest even after having gone through revenger's shack before. I think I was able to because I never spoke to Edgar after finishing off Castle Morne, so he didn't "finish his duty" and return to Irina to find her dead. So I think you're good as long as you don't have him leave before speaking to Irina.
I was absolutely overjoyed when I meet Patches in one of the caves. 😄☺ Yes, I know, Patches is probably not an important NPC, but he is a funny character. (really good voice actor) 😉 Anyway, he seems to appear in EVERY Soulsborne game at some point, wich makes him kind of interesting. 🤔

This is really helpful for a second playthrough. I missed the white mask first go around, and the dung puppet. I wish someone would turn this into a timeline visualization on the wiki.

i first met alexander at the radahn festival and was able to complete his quest from there. i didnt even summon him against the fire giant and still found him in farum azula
A couple more that I can think of. Thunderbolt Ash of war is found in royal capital. I think it disappears when it turns to Ash. Golden parry as well but not 100% on if it is there after or not.
This is all very confusing, but much appreciated. Would you be willing to compile a complete guide? One like this, covering all perfect orders in one big guide?
I'm trying to work on such a guide/series but a major issue is that so many quests are intertangled and trying to explain how to do everything (like all steps in quests, including those that aren't necessary for items) just becomes me saying a string of 200+ things you need to do and when and it takes forever... I am working on more guides like this one though.
@Its Shatter I would be willing to PAY for such a guide, if you ever created one, whether by video or a document. I have been playing From games since the late '90's, and in every title, I am a 100% Completionist! With Elden Ring being out for such a short period of time, no guides exist for total Completionists like me, but after watching this video, I knew I had found the best channel.
It is possible to pick up a shabriri grape directly from castle morne. You have to visit the revengers shack and fight the invader without meeting Hyetta or completing the castle morne quest. I usually complete most of my quests before defeating the fire giant so this was done after Malenia but just before the fire giant.
If you've killed Edgar (either as Edgar or as the Revenger) and you still haven't gotten the shabriri grape from him, try checking all of his possible locations (Castle Morne, Near Irina at entrance to Weeping Peninsula, and at the Revenger's Shack) hopefully you find at one of those locations. Hope this helps!
I did the Alexander quest well after beating the game and it still worked for me I just had to go back to Calid and talk to him then the quest was able to progress
I missed poleblade and rivers of blood on my first play through by killing the fire giant first. . Also I didn’t meet Alexander until the Radahn fight but I was still able to finish his quest line. The Dung eater quest is just ridiculous.
So sad i missed Patch's qu'est the loot looks amazing 😭 also I did the last manor letter before finishing Ria's quest 😭 glad I found this for a NG+ tho 💜
Make sure you get the hammer talisman before you defeat Godrick boss! Once you defeat him, you are permanently locked out of the invader event in Stormvile area in which you are supposed to get hammer talisman!

Swear I've missed nearly all the side quests on my playthrough (around 70 hours into first one) and now I'm at endgame I'm starting to see items that would be useful that I'm locked out of from npcs I never even knew had questlines it's really annoying they should add some sort of journal you carry with you to note down things people say or where they are at the least that's not unrealistic
You have to buy something from the guy that is stomping on Godrick, it took me forever to stumble into. I said stumbled because I gave up already and was just buying something that I wanted from him. He won’t move into the throne room, thus negating Nephelia’s quest as well

I miss out the whole Volcano questline cuz I usually want to kill the lord in the area before I try to cleanup quests.. Sigh ... Elder Ring make the questline misssibility on a whole new level compare to all the previous entries..
I was able to do Irina’s quest after beating the game. I had all 3 grapes collected too, and even entered the frenzied flame chamber and got the flame. I then backtracked and was able to do her quest very quickly. She had no unique dialogue even though I could burn her eyes from the get go. I was just item hunting after beating the game and had already done ranni’s ending.
I started Irina's quest and then wandered off to Liurnia and found the Revenger's shack and killed the invader there. Then I went back down to Weeping Peninsula and did the Fort there but Edgar never showed up. Found Irina dead, but still no Edgar. I think killing the invader Edgar burned that whole questline.
Your killing Edgar at the shack. You need to go to the church for the fingerprint grape next. Edgar shouldn't invade until he vows revenge. Maybe I'm wrong? He never invaded at the shack for me ruining the quest
I've personally given up on side quest and only focus on exploring, main story and getting stronger. I did ranni quest line just to find out i ended many side quest in the progress. The quests in this game is a walking contradiction it emphasizes exploring the world as much as you can just to find out u have been exploring a quest without you knowing and now u never talked to the npc so u missed valuable items
As long as you interact with alexander at some point before farum azula, such as the radahn festival or the lava after a boss, you can complete his quest. As for Diallos, you can complete his entire quest as long as you dont kill rykard, tanith as well i believe you just will miss out on some dialogue but the tonic will be left in her chair even after rykard, i think you can give it to nepheli too but not sure what happens then. At least this is how it went for me the only quest thats bugged out on me is yura’s where he got stuck at his initial location

I think Millicent doesn't invade in Aeonia Swamp if u talk to Gowry.
A lot of people also missed Pidia NPC Questline. I was 300 hours into the game and I didn't know there was an NPC named Pidia.

Indeed and perhaps it is that, he is Seluvis. Once he dies, so did Seluvis. Seluvis was a puppet all along. Their voice is also similar.

What i hate is when they move to a location you have already explored, so you probably wont go back there and will miss the quest

This can be blocked off if you progress to far in selvus’s quest line as when he “dies” you can no longer feed dung eater the potion

You actually can do Alexander’s quest after completing the game I just finished it and I completed the game a while ago, I was just scavenging for weapons, armor, etc and found Alexander by the magma worm in Mount Gelmir

What's up Shatter, just FYI, the patch that came out a few days agov.1.05 finally fixed Alexander from being stuck in Caelid. I did everything I could but he has never moved from Radahns arena for a month on my main playthrough that I refuse to select an ending for lol. I logged in yesterday and he finally moved to his final destination(sparing spoilers for those who care ;) ).

You can also get locked out of Seluvis' quest for the magic scorpion talisman even just by picking up the fingerslayer blade or something, without giving it to Ranni yet and getting him killed. I don't know exactly what it was but I got to a point where he wouldn't give me the quest even with everything before it done and I can only figure that was the problem
He will only give you the quest if you discover his dungeon and read the message there. You just also give his potion to either Nepheli, Gideon or Dung Eater.
My favorite part was Vyke absolutely clapping the katana user spamming R2 at the beginning. Chef's kiss.
i really like the game and all, but with how big the world is and how easy it is to mess up or miss quests, i really think there shouldve been some sort of quest markers or quest journal, even if its just to keep track of of all those different story and quest lines. i know, i know, ppl praise fromsoft games for not having those features, but until now their games were very linear, unlike elden ring. and not having any of those features just results in googeling non stop, looking things up and stressing about not progressing too quickly or messing things up. actually poorly designed.

It’s like the developers expect you to be taking notes every time you interact with a NPC. A simple quest tracker would have been helpful to track where we are with NPCs and what remaining steps need to be done to complete them.

You can kill edgar while he's weeping at Irina 's body and still get his grape. He will not invade later if you do so. However if you return to where you kill him, the grape will just be sitting there.

I can attest to the Alexander bug where he's locked into Radahn's grace site. I never did the first part where he got stuck in Limgrave but I was there for everything else. For me, Alexander left for Radahn's grace site right after I summoned him and beat the Fire Giant fight. He literally only had 1 spawn point left and he refuses to move to Farum Azula for the finale in his quest so I'm locked out of his talisman until NG+
Did you check his second 'stuck in the ground' location after exhausting his chat at the Radhan Battlefield?

maybe it was a bug, but i suspect this "bug" may be players not realizing that (as far as i know) Alexander in Radahn's arena is the only time an NPC will repeat their 'final' dialogue more than once when speaking to them, and yet *not actually be done giving out new dialogue* if you spam speaking to him some more.
Im pretty sure you can kill Rykard and then do the third invasion quest in the mountaintops after. When you come back to volcano manor the reward should be at the table where you got the letter

Really? Both playthroughs I waited to fight Rykard until after I got to the mountaintops and killed Juno. Meaning I was over leveled by that point. Good to know you don’t have to do it like that.
I really hate how Elden Ring locks you out of questlines, especially given its huge open world design. I can see why From Software used to have this system in the older titles, but now the amount of questlines that are canceled is absurd. I have no problem going for a NG+ run, but having about 10 questlines ruined I am not motivated to keep track of that mess anymore. I really want something like bonfire aesthetics to be a possible fix for those incidents. Damn, this sucks.
This is exactly the video I've been wanting and I haven't even watched it yet. That title is it tho, I been using all your quest guides cuz I missed alot on my first play through side quest wise. But theyr all like half done because you need to progress the side quest as you progress the story. So knowing what to have done, and when is confusing

You forgot Rogier Rapiers Questline. You will block out if you starting Rannis questline before.

The one quest that baffle me is that if you're really adventurous and find sellen quest specific spell before raya lucaria, you can summon her for wolf of radagon fight

for me, I proceed too far into ranni’s quest resultin in selevus death. I hate this kinda criss cross dependencies between multiple questlines.

Doing the NPC's side quests only ends up in very sad endings.
I just realized I just ruined their lives.
6:20, you can kill hikard even without access to leindel castle, as long as you have the last two quest, the one inside leindel castle, and the one at the winter peninsula, you can kill haikard, just be aware that you can't talk to the others npc until you finish both invasions quests. I do this when going for Haikard as first boss without losing volcano quests/itens. Do all volcano quests until you only get the last two, that will be impossible to do as you don't have access to laindel yet. then kill haikard and don't speak to any npc there until you finish both invasions.
Patches now spawns at Laurina lakes at the scenic isle that connects him to to raya and Volcano manor
For anyone that comes across this, I was able to finish Irinas quest even after having gone through revenger's shack before. I think I was able to because I never spoke to Edgar after finishing off Castle Morne, so he didn't "finish his duty" and return to Irina to find her dead. So I think you're good as long as you don't have him leave before speaking to Irina.
I was absolutely overjoyed when I meet Patches in one of the caves. 😄☺
Yes, I know, Patches is probably not an important NPC, but he is a funny character. (really good voice actor) 😉
Anyway, he seems to appear in EVERY Soulsborne game at some point, wich makes him kind of interesting. 🤔

i first met alexander at the radahn festival and was able to complete his quest from there. i didnt even summon him against the fire giant and still found him in farum azula
A couple more that I can think of. Thunderbolt Ash of war is found in royal capital. I think it disappears when it turns to Ash. Golden parry as well but not 100% on if it is there after or not.

I'm trying to work on such a guide/series but a major issue is that so many quests are intertangled and trying to explain how to do everything (like all steps in quests, including those that aren't necessary for items) just becomes me saying a string of 200+ things you need to do and when and it takes forever... I am working on more guides like this one though.

I have been playing From games since the late '90's, and in every title, I am a 100% Completionist! With Elden Ring being out for such a short period of time, no guides exist for total Completionists like me, but after watching this video, I knew I had found the best channel.

It is possible to pick up a shabriri grape directly from castle morne. You have to visit the revengers shack and fight the invader without meeting Hyetta or completing the castle morne quest. I usually complete most of my quests before defeating the fire giant so this was done after Malenia but just before the fire giant.
If you've killed Edgar (either as Edgar or as the Revenger) and you still haven't gotten the shabriri grape from him, try checking all of his possible locations (Castle Morne, Near Irina at entrance to Weeping Peninsula, and at the Revenger's Shack) hopefully you find at one of those locations. Hope this helps!
Killed Rykard & got locked out of EVERYTHING for volcano manor before I had a chance to do anything lol love to see it
I did the Alexander quest well after beating the game and it still worked for me I just had to go back to Calid and talk to him then the quest was able to progress

I missed poleblade and rivers of blood on my first play through by killing the fire giant first. . Also I didn’t meet Alexander until the Radahn fight but I was still able to finish his quest line. The Dung eater quest is just ridiculous.

For me my friend killed patches in 1 shot with his bleed build. What did he offer, anything good besides gear since I already got my dream set.
apparently the lady to get the polite bow gesture is no longer around after the festival. so make sure to talk to her to get it before you kill radan
Make sure you get the hammer talisman before you defeat Godrick boss! Once you defeat him, you are permanently locked out of the invader event in Stormvile area in which you are supposed to get hammer talisman!

Swear I've missed nearly all the side quests on my playthrough (around 70 hours into first one) and now I'm at endgame I'm starting to see items that would be useful that I'm locked out of from npcs I never even knew had questlines it's really annoying they should add some sort of journal you carry with you to note down things people say or where they are at the least that's not unrealistic
You have to buy something from the guy that is stomping on Godrick, it took me forever to stumble into. I said stumbled because I gave up already and was just buying something that I wanted from him. He won’t move into the throne room, thus negating Nephelia’s quest as well

I beat the fire giant before church of repose and was still able to get the rivers of blood. I did not burn the tree yet tho.
I miss out the whole Volcano questline cuz I usually want to kill the lord in the area before I try to cleanup quests..
Sigh ... Elder Ring make the questline misssibility on a whole new level compare to all the previous entries..
I met all these NPCs whether I finished their quest lines or not, I'm on NG+4, and just found Jar-Bairn.
I was able to do Irina’s quest after beating the game. I had all 3 grapes collected too, and even entered the frenzied flame chamber and got the flame. I then backtracked and was able to do her quest very quickly. She had no unique dialogue even though I could burn her eyes from the get go. I was just item hunting after beating the game and had already done ranni’s ending.

You Edgar doesn’t invade you at the shack you can get the grape where you first meet him at his castle.
I started Irina's quest and then wandered off to Liurnia and found the Revenger's shack and killed the invader there. Then I went back down to Weeping Peninsula and did the Fort there but Edgar never showed up. Found Irina dead, but still no Edgar. I think killing the invader Edgar burned that whole questline.
Your killing Edgar at the shack. You need to go to the church for the fingerprint grape next. Edgar shouldn't invade until he vows revenge. Maybe I'm wrong? He never invaded at the shack for me ruining the quest
The npc quests are as brutal, harsh and unforgiving as the game, advance to far or do the wrong thing and it’s all over.

I've personally given up on side quest and only focus on exploring, main story and getting stronger. I did ranni quest line just to find out i ended many side quest in the progress. The quests in this game is a walking contradiction it emphasizes exploring the world as much as you can just to find out u have been exploring a quest without you knowing and now u never talked to the npc so u missed valuable items
I dont know how the devs expected anyone to find all these steps for all these quest lines without outside aid

As long as you interact with alexander at some point before farum azula, such as the radahn festival or the lava after a boss, you can complete his quest. As for Diallos, you can complete his entire quest as long as you dont kill rykard, tanith as well i believe you just will miss out on some dialogue but the tonic will be left in her chair even after rykard, i think you can give it to nepheli too but not sure what happens then. At least this is how it went for me the only quest thats bugged out on me is yura’s where he got stuck at his initial location
