This is what distinguishes singers, Tom puts his soul into the song, you not only hear it but you feel the pain and anguish he is trying to express when he finds out his woman has cheated on him and he tries to maintain his composure, knowing that he is literally being destroyed inside, and this broken man saying, I'll never fall in love again this is the last straw.

I was 16 years old in 1967. I remember very well Tom Jones and his weekly show. NEVER missed it. I could not understand the worship of Elvis after listening to Tom Jones. Loved Elvis, but wanted to be Tom Jones in a Western way (as a younger cowboy that I was). He was and still is amazing.

I'm a 50 year old white guy who is just old enough to remember when the music industry didn't compartmentalize the demographics of listeners into genres, races, ages, sexes, etc. like it does today. And then ram what they assume we'll like down our throats. Good music is good music. All of us different kinds of people with different upbringings and experiences are able to judge what sounds good to us. This youtube trend is so great for everyone. I love it.

I'm 55, and when I was a kid, we just enjoyed American music. I listened to: old School Motown, R&B, soul, jazz, blues, funk, Disco, country, rock, pop, classical, and believe it or not, I even listen to Champagne, and swing, music with my grandmother. My generation was never taught to believe that music had color; it has variety.

Tom was Welsh, and they are a renowned race of singers. I went to "A night with Tom Jones " at the Hilton hotel with an audience of about 100. He killed it. Didn't need a microphone and still nearly blew the chandeliers off the ceiling. And at the end of a fantastic performance, all the women in the audience rose as one and threw their panties at him. Fantastic performance by a fabulous singer !!!!

Tom is from the lovely little land of song, Wales (known as Cymru in Welsh).. We love singing, even my dog Bryn would throw his head back and we would sing our hearts out together. Wales is best known for its male voice choirs.e.g Morriston Orpheus male voice choir singing Myfanwy, Only Boys Aloud singing Calon Lan on Britain's Got Talent, and the crowds singing at rugby matches, e,g the Welsh anthem, Wales v England 2013. Oh, the great black American singer Paul Robeson loved Wales and its mining communities, and sang the Welsh anthem (in English). All of these on youtube. By Tom, also see The Green Green Grass of Home and it's Not Unusual. Try some Shirley Bassey, also Welsh, and the opera singer Bryn Terfel.....

Bryn Terfel a better singer than Jenkins, as was Margaret Price (among others). Not forgetting Shirley Bassey.. And Dame Gwyneth Jones was famous for the incredible power of her voice in operas.

In those days the mining communities in South Wales were renowned for male voice choirs.- the mines are gone now.

You should check out his version of Kiss by prince. Prince actually approved it and loved it. I was blessed with the opportunity to see Tom Jones in Vegas when he headlined at the MGM. One of his band members was my hair client. I happened to be in Vegas and met up with my friend who gave me backstage passes for Tom's concert in exchange for a haircut. I got to meet sir Tom Jones very briefly. He was extremely nice. That was almost 20 years ago. He sings even better now! Check out The Voice UK for his breakout performances the audience constantly ask him to sing. In one episode, the son of the author of the song never going to fall in love shows up and auditions. Tom Jones turns his chair for him not knowing who he is. After he finds out who the young man is Tom Jones ask the young man to sing his father's song with him. It's amazing and magical it might even bring you to tears check it out

Hi Justin and Staci, really good to meet you guys, before I get to the music, Justin I appreciate how you interact with Staci, very respectful, it just comes off that way, just sayin.
Now Tom Jones, many people not from that era, at first think he is a brother . I always felt he could have been an opra singer had he chosen to do so. this song was perhaps his greatest hit, and he had many of them. keep playing them and Ill keep watching
Now if he is new to yuo, then I have another of that era, The BEE GEE'S, the song ; To Much Heaven, Im sure you will like it, Enjoy !!!
    O'GEE, Ray.

It’s crazy sometimes to put a face to a voice, right?!? Even besides race, sometimes the voice just doesn’t match what you might’ve imagined the person looked like. Like a big voice from a tiny person, or a soft voice from a big burly man. Take Aaron Neville for example, his voice couldn’t be softer but he’s not a little soft looking guy. It’s just so pleasantly surprising! It goes back to not judging a book by its cover, in any aspect, not just race. And it’s really fun to experience, that amazement. It’s so cool. Music connects us all, all walks of life, races, cultures - music crosses all the boundaries and invites us to love one another at the most basic level of humanity ♥️

He was born in South Wales. Here is some history on Tom Jones: Thomas Jones Woodward was born in Pontypridd, South Wales, Great Britain on June 7, 1940 to a father who worked the coal mines of the Rhondda Valley. After quitting school at 15, working a variety of manual jobs, singing in the clubs at night and marrying at 17, Jones went on to sign with Decca Records in London.

And for a real twist, check out Tom's cover of Prince's "Kiss." When asked what he'd like Prince to cover of Tom's hits, he said he'd love to see what Prince would do with "What's New Pussycat?"
