I'm a 61 year old man, a classic rocker, a blues rocker etc, and I too grew up listening to Tom Jones, and Englebert, ........ these incredible voices! Tom is just the G.O.A.T!!! And he can still bring it! What a powerhouse voice.

Tom Jones is a Welsh singer who has one of the smoothest powerful voices around. And he was a showman too, in fact he was a big heart-throb with the ladies. He has so many hits such as "I'll Never Fall In Love Again", "It's Not Unusual", "What's New Pussycat?", "Green, Green Grass of Home", "She's a Lady" etc. He covers a lot of genres. He is still performing & is a coach on "The Voice" UK version. He also had a variety show from 69 - 71 & had some of the biggest music stars at the time.

Yep. I just came here from a duet he did with John Farnham. Tom Jones is the first singer I've seen who can match John's power. Everyone else has to just about swallow their mic to keep up, while John looks like he needs longer arms to get the mic far enough away to not overpower them. In their duet, Tom and John were both using similar mic technique.
Unfortunately, when Tom's songs came out, I couldn't admit how much I enjoyed his voice. He wasn't "cool" like Led Zep or the Stones, so I had to keep my admiration to myself.

Tom Jones and Engelbert Humperdinck were the two great British male singers from back in the 60's. Engelbert's voice was right up there with Tom's but Tom was more dynamic and the better showman. It's so great that you do the older singers as well as the new.
Speaking of new can I make a suggestion for Lucy Thomas, an English girl, from four years ago at the age of 15 singing 'Listen' from Dreamgirls. It's a difficult song and she nailed it. Also the video is entirely close ups of her singing so you get to see all of her workings as she sings. She has about sixty videos on her TH-cam channel 'Lucy Thomas Music' and some of them are duets with her nearly six years younger sister Martha.

"It's almost like you see all the incredible talent, but you can't quite pick up on what it is." Exactly. I've seen/heard this performance countless times over the years, but his delivery is just so natural, so apparently effortless, that the mechanics behind the magic are just too elusive to catch - and, certainly, to dissect - at times. Everything just flows right by (or through?) you - as any great performance should. It all seems to be completely second-nature to him. There was a great quote by someone (can't remember who). They were talking about some professional athlete's ability and said that it was like watching someone doing something they've always known as opposed to something they had to learn. I feel the same way about Jones as a vocalist and performer. A true master of his craft.

Can't blame you for fangirling a little bit. I think of him as one of the greatest baritones ever, but he can sing some pretty high notes, so he covers a lot of tenor territory too.
My parents had me singing "It's Not Unusual" on a reel-to-reel around 1970, when I was 3 years old. I was taking liberty with the lyrics, singing "It's Not Unwoosual". Sir Tom and the Beatles were my biggest influences when I was young for singing and guitar playing, learning solo singing from Tom, and harmonizing from the lads from Liverpool.

How he got the men involved was so well done. Many a time I heard men before entering the showroom say they were only there because their wife or girlfriend wanted to see him. On the way after the show I would often hear, "We're coming back next year to see Tom" (notice on the 1st name basis). He was certainly quite a showman who played to the whole audience. Interestingly, that also came across in his recordings.

Able to fade it in and back out again, anytime. He still sounds great at over 80 years old!!..Englebert Humperdinck, a contemporary of Tom's, could also weave such a powerful crooner's voice into that Latin sound. However, Englebert would barely have is mouth open at all much of the time.I've also noticed how Stevie Wonder can blast such a powerful voice with his lips only open a 1/4 of an inch or so..Englebert, Spanish Eyes. This was a HUGE hit while I was still living in Germany in the late 1960's, but I didn't know at the time that it was a Tom Jones song because it was sung in German by a popular German performer named Peter Alexander. Amazing delivery by sir Tom! Fantastic! He’s so fantastic it overshadow the fact that this song is about a murder! 😳

I remember seeing this performance and this video replays it well. Tom Jones was a master at singing most any song. During his time as a performer, he was one of the 'sexy singers'! lol

    Hey treat yourself.
There is a song called MY YIDDESHE MOMMA (Jewish Ballad).
It has been performed as DUET with Tom Jones and John Farnham..
    Do yourself a favour.

The Ed Sullivan Show was live and they were always having time constraints. Comedians were told to cut their 4 minute routine to 2 and a half minutes. Singers scheduled to sing two songs were told to cut the 2nd song. Clearly, they asked Tom to speed Delilah up because it’s the fastest version ever. Here’s Tom singing it live before about 1 million people about 45 years later: th-cam.com/video/zo2O5E9Ea9Y/w-d-xo.html

So sad that the most recent target of the cancel culture is to get this song banned.

No it's not. The cancel culture won't dare even think about going after Tom especially since it's all backfiring on the scumbag traitors.

This is a little off the subject, but I couldn't help myself admire the band conducter, who was literally dancing to the song near the end of the record. It looks like everyone feels the same way with Tom Jones singing.

Such a great voice, such a great talent. I'm just a millennial, so most of his work was out before I was even born but I have so much appreciation and respect for his work. incredible.

Being a sexy good looking man helps! He is Welsh and for whatever reason Welsh men had very good voices, whether spoken or vocal, think Richard Burton.

Only Tom could sing about offing his woman with a knife and still have tons of women falling all over every word of his confession. Maybe Elvis could get away with that also, but that's it!

If you want to see something, really, funny (if you haven't, already), check-out the version of this song that Christopher Walken does in the movie Romance and Cigarettes (which, of course, you can see on TH-cam without watching the whole film.) It's a musical and it's, absolutely, hysterical. There's a whole scenario around it that's amazingly funny. Plus, Walken does a good job of the song. Enjoy!

Tom received no training, he learnt to sing in the Welsh valleys. For someone who talks a lot, you don’t actually say anything. Sorry…

Saw Tom Jones 14 times in concert back in the day ... mind blowing performer with an amazingly powerful voice ... fantastic dance moves that got all of us on our feet ... and , oh yes , he wasn't hard to look at either !! He and Elvis were good friends ... imagine both of them on stage together lol !!!!
