I rode an XR 650 R across the entire United States 11,000 miles on the Trans-America trail. Trust me, this bike is so rediculously AWESOME!!!! My XR 650 R is a daily driver and goes over 100+ MPH with mods. I can't say enough about this legendary motorcycle. They are AMAZING!! And as far as comfort, yeah its nowhere near as comfortable as a BMW but when you've been riding a dirt bike for many years all I use is a beaded seat cover and I'm good for 400+ miles on or off-road!!!!
The XR 650R is an incredible desert racer. It has won every professional desert race its entered . It remains one of the few stock dirt bikes that can touch 100 mph
the fact that these bikes and guys reach over 100mph in places is crazy and testament to the riders bravery, bikes reliability and the tuners that develop the bikes. the fact these start out as a fairly wheezy xr650 shows how versatile the xr is. great bikes with a range for full on desert racing at the top level down to begginers who need a smooth motor with enough power to have fun yet not be intimidating. nice vid
About 41 hp stone stock (in California, anyway), 50+ uncorked, 60+ with the power-up kit. Some guys get more than that. It just depends how much you want to spend! I hope Honda will put that excellent motor in a dualsport bike soon, but for racing, the 450s are lighter and just as fast. Much higher maintenance, though. Race teams can afford it. Not me! Mine handles freeways and mountain trails, no problem. Keep the oil changed, and the valves adjusted, and they'll last for years. KING!
hey, I have the dvd, its great, actually its a movie that they made about the baja 1000 look for it, the title of the dvd is DUST TO GLORY. good luck..
my dad a 2001 and its street legal with the baja kit and 5 gallon tank and one industries kit and he has been trying to sell it and wont wait for less than a year for me to turn 18 and buy it... i love riding it. when we got this 650 it had a 15 tooth sprocket in front and a 44 in the front. it was way too fast so we dropped 1 tooth on the front sprocket and that was still too fast so we dropped another and it is still pretty fast. especially for the singletrack we ride. solution was an xr400r
From the documentary "Dust to Glory". Great movie. It follows the Baja 1000 in all forms of vehicles. The bikes are the best though! They follow one racer, Mouse, from start to finsh. he races the entire race alone. Albiet he has a great pit crew, Ricky Johnson from the glory days. If you can get it, watch it. It is on netflix and in all blockbusters.
You are absolutely right about the XR. It is a blast to ride. But the thing is if you are riding track the 450, any brand, kicks it but because of weight and power. I have the 450 for track but if I could (hopefully on day) I would have both.
XR 650 R, the most stable and confident feeling bike I ever ridden. The faster you go the more stable. Only minus, lots of vibration in the bars made my hands numb, but that didnt stop me from twisting the throttle. I haven been this excited about a bike since the '77 RM 125. Oh, anyone ride the KTM 950 se yet?
i recomend you watch the entire documentary film , you will enjoy it ! the 1x bike made it first, but in this section of the race the underdog proved how good of a rider he is to the people that bumped him
I had to sell my street legal XR650R. I thought I would move back to Cali, but it won't be soon. I have a DR650 now, and it's a fun bike for casual riding, and it's a better street bike, but it's no match for the big red pig in the dirt. Those things have guts!
They talk about possibly missing the check point, but it is a chance they were going to take to catch up with the leader. He has a freaking headset to talk to the helicopter, which would be able to see the checkpoint. Talk about a dirty, cheating team. Let the two race and see who comes out ahead. Andy kicked ass. I have watched this movie and clips more than any other movies or clips. It still gives me the chills. Racing kicks ass and always will. i am older now but still love to get out and ri
So glad I was able to see this battle play out on the big screen when it was released in theaters, the ultimate FU to the corporate overlords . Fucking gladiators 🙌 !
I have a KTM 640 and it will do 85 on fire roads pretty easily with somewhere around 60hp. I'm pretty sure that a Honda team bike is probably cranking out 70hp and at that point its not the bike doing it but the rider.
@rideredification no, the frame is the same. the engine on the r doesnt have the emissions equipment and the suspension is tuuned more for street riding. other than that, its "basically" the same machine. of course there are more details but i have no time to explain it all.
It's to see if you'r bike or what ever you ride finish the race. Some people race in the Baja to see if they can finish the race even though they know the're not going to be the first rider or driver to finish the race. You have to have balls to race in the Baja.
@Pwn00b it is a pretty bad reazon, because there isnt any similar motorcycle like this in any other mark inclusive. My 650r have a acerbis tank and y like to do travels for my large country. Thanks you.
Beats the hell out of Nascar

You are a legend mate!
XR 650 R fan from MALAYSIA - MUSTANG JOE.
I rode a few times with Andy in high school. He was crazy fast back then. Huge props to his racing accomplishments :)
Im 16 years late, but i finally bought my first XR650R. its the first bike ive been on in years and boy is it exhilarating.
The XR 650R is an incredible desert racer. It has won every professional desert race its entered . It remains one of the few stock dirt bikes that can touch 100 mph
Wow... this is frickin awesome. These guys are nuts... 110 MPH, flat out, offroad... that's crazy.
Spent the hole day riding the xr650r. The engine produces so much trackable and usable torque. Its no wonder it wins races.
This whole movie is just pure magic! This scene and story r incredible I feel like I’m there!!!
So epic...
XR650R just crushes the desert.

I think you've confused the XR650R with the XR650L if you describe it as "wheezy" they're entirely different bike
So epic. This gives me chills
It gave me the chills reading your comments that it gave you the chills
Mouse steady gaining ground. At age 47 I wanna run baja

G. Daddy Me it's a movie called dust to glory
+TrentOWNZ Even though KTM has ZERO Baja 1000 victories and Honda has 17 consecutive Baja victories!!! Funny man that's a good one :D
honda has those wins all with the xr650r?
Yes, all with the xr650r
@@peytonstamper1432 What about the XR 600?
Wrong Scott summers won a bunch on a XR 600 probably the winningest rider ever on a Honda!

What a bike...
amazing vid
I hope that one day I will have one of these bike and have the opportunity to ride it on the beach
@kalmte123 they 'might' tune it slightly differently due to the added weight of a water jacket, but that can be easily adjusted for
110 mph!...are you mad, bro? Special rider with a special machine
sick!
Best vid
Dios debe de tener una moto de estas.
SPETTACOLO!!!
Man ! See him just fucking Tacing on the beach ! Thats awsome 110 mph :P SIC ! Awsome video
SWEET!!!!!!!
Baja would swallow up a KLR, esp the 08. KLR's are nice for playing around and commuting, but you wouldn't want to race one offroad
Hondas kick ass

3:05 you can hear that 650 just roaring through the dirt.

You can watch it instantly on Netflix...
Dust to Glory
Wow Netflix was around 11 years ago?
Close....2004. 2007 was the race from Ensenada to Cabo San Lucas 1290 miles.

My dad rides a XR250R but i'm on a ktm 200 exc. Both awesome bikes. what movie is this from?
when is the baja 1000???? i know its in the fall but exactly when does it start???
@Pwn00b it is a pretty bad reazon, because there isnt any similar motorcycle like this in any other mark inclusive. My 650r have a acerbis tank and y like to do travels for my large country. Thanks you.
Does anyone know what program is this extract from? I'd like to find the full version. So amazing.
