Thats actually kinda cool since African Americans Created jazz as a new wave kinda music and finn in this version would be the new wave of jedi.
It helps me sleep at night knowing that this is star wars canon in a parallel universe.
Only thing I didn't like is that star wars has never had in-movie-narration. So it was weird.

Yeah. He looks so traumatized when the storm trooper died on his arms on his first appearance that I thought it would be an interesting character arc revolving around perspective of war (kinda like what the video explores). Too bad they did him dirty

I don't think it was anti fanfic in fact the opposite. It was saying I'm not doing enough for this to be fanfic because I'm just fixing the movie not writing my own stuff.

It’s easy to rewrite a movie but none of us could ever write a good movie.
Ever hear the phrase "hindsight is 20/20"? That's what's happening here. It's a lot easier to take an existing piece of media and make it better than to make an entirely new piece of media from scratch.

Rey thinking she's Luke's daughter is *such* a good change. And her actively chasing her family is a great change! This is more realistic as adopted children even those who get adopted by great families can still feel that curiosity and pull towards seeing why their origional families gave them up

"I come from a matched set of millions, but I'm still here... aren't I" is such a great line and would have been an amazing piece of characterization for Finn in the actual trilogy. He doesn't care about his upbringing, he just cares about being better and making his own decisions
What he should’ve been.
Would’ve loved to see Finn as a turned storm trooper who was still very deadly and tactical minded, but slowly sheds those attributes through the the trilogy. Like yes, he turns after not obeying orders in TFA, but he still keeps his hardened exterior until he learns to relax and have a good time with his friends. You could’ve had a lot of content with Finn if they kept his character grounded in that reality. How he doesn’t quite mesh with the civilian world but he’s trying to cope with not being in a strict regime anymore. He slowly relaxes and makes jokes, but still retains his ability to snap into action like he was trained. He would not be a bumbling idiot. Just simple things like that could’ve given him depth and uniqueness
I'm picking up what you're putting down. I still really like what was done with him in this rewrite though.
That's exactly what I thought we would have as soon as I saw him take off his helmet in the trailer. Instead, they wrote him like he never received any combat training at all. I think he drops his firearm three times in _The Force Awakens_, and each time he needs it a few moments later.
I'm not a soldier, I won't pretend to know what it's like to be one. However, I do know that boot camp has a lot of drills on weapon maintenance, probably to instill in the recruit a sense of care around the weapon. To use a Star Wars quote: This weapon is your life.
A perfect character to reflect the ww2 theming of Star Wars, covering the effect warfare has on people who participate in the regimes, or even more specifically how the Wehrmacht soldiers had to deal with knowing their entire worldview crumbled in front of them, and their horrific acts made obvious.
If the first movie was set as to show the rise of the first order (not just a 5 min scene of blowing up the new republic) then we could see Finn break away and have to deal with the acts the first order we’re doing to enslave worlds

I still think it's a poor reason for him to kill the other students and Luke. Overall, I like it a lot, but I think if it were subject to adaptation, it would have to go through a lot of revision.
@@jairiske Maybe have Snokes “choice” be an empty promise. Snoke brings Kylo to the dark and then Snoke pries information about the Jedi Temple and Order out of Kylo and eventually destroys the Order himself. Then Kylo is mad since he didn’t actually want the Jedi Order to be destroyed as he still cared about them to a degree. This leads to him becoming more dark and powerful and this was Snokes plan.
Also it fits as a reference to the prequels because one of the biggest moral issues of the original Jedi was basically regular kidnappings for their recruitment.
I always thought it would have been better if he had fallen because of entitlement. He was taught from birth that being a Skywalker made him the main character of the universe and that everyone will make concessions for him because of what he is. He's so fascinated by Darth Vader because Vader is proof that a Skywalker can do whatever he wants and still be forgiven in the end. The mask and the name change could have been something forced on him by Snoke as part of the traditional Sith training method of taking away whatever the apprentice cares about most (in this case, his family name and a face that people recognize and defer to.) That would make him a living critique of Rey, who also defines herself entirely by what she is rather than what she does.

What I love about this:
-Finn and Rey taking divergent paths. Rey is the naturally gifted one who feels she doesn't need training so she's unfocused while Finn doesn't have her knack for it but is far more disciplined so he becomes a Jedi first.
-On top of that, they sort of diverge on the paths of the Jedi, almost becoming the old video game split between Jedi Consular and Jedi Guardian. Rey the one with more raw power in the Force but not as impressive fighting techniques while Finn becoming the more physical, lightsaber duelist but with a weaker connection to the Force. At least at first for both of them.
-Finn being more reluctant to kill and having more visible sympathy for the Stormtroopers. Really makes him stand out as a character and makes him an even better candidate to be a Jedi.
-That Force Plague thing is a BRILLIANT way to head off the "Rey's a Mary Sue" bullshit by basically saying that she totally is but justifying how wrong and out of place it feels in-universe. That's devious!
-This version of Rose is so much more likable. And I didn't even hate her to start, but making her a kind of cool near human cyborg who's all book smarts but little practical experience who becomes an officer is a brilliant re-working of the character.
-Luke being dead . . . that just solves SO MUCH! (And again, I didn't hate his self-imposed exile as it was.)
-Phasma's "I fight for the strongest" mentality lends a lot of depth to her character and her redemption is almost as cool as Ben's.
-Kaminoan Snoke. Oh, that is so good. It's a great way to tie the entire franchise together instead of the new movies pretending the prequels didn't exist. Overall, Snoke is a much-improved version where he's kind of like Sidious but not exactly. Simply willing to martyr himself for his belief already makes him a far different antagonist.
-Giant Snoke final boss. I was so disappointed to find out he wasn't as big as advertised and the idea of fighting a giant with a lightsaber could lead to so many possibilities.
. . . Yeah, this was pretty much exactly what I wanted from the new trilogy.

It is fantastic, but giant clone snoke is a bit far
For the second paragraph, when you said Finn being the more physical, lightsaber duelist but with a weaker connection to the force. I couldn't help but think of Finn being some sort of Black Obi-wan, due to Obi-Wan not being as adept with the force as most Jedi yet it was his other qualities that made him a powerful Jedi.
It also keeps the Anakin's legacy of killing Sidious in tact and bringing balance to the force.

I like the idea of Rey having a more force-heavy fighting style, with Kylo’s being more brutal. What if Rey had a technique where she made a lightsaber float and fight on its own alongside her, like Kylo Ren’s sword?

This is an actual style of lightsaber fighting, it was mostly used by a jedi of the same race as Yoda, he also used a saber that the blade was basically invisible, its crazy, look it up

The Force Plague is an utterly terrifying concept, and Kylo describing her as an anomaly that shouldn't exist actually frightened me. (Though it was probably the VHS glitches are made me jump-I've been watching too much analogue horror.)
Anakin was the anomaly, Luke was.

I didn’t like the fact that multiple clones of Snoke showed up at the same time, but other than that, this is masterful. I think you accomplished your goal. Also, that tiny gripe could probably be fixed just by making them all visually distinct. Extra limbs, extra noses, different heights or stances, whatever. Absolutely bang-up job, sir!
The cloning area was already shown producing imperfect clones, and Snoke having a nose and fucked up body would lean into that. I'd assume his real body, the giant, probably looks closer to an actual Kaminoan
I thought the final battle seemed bad? Like 3 people against a group of knights and clones? Seems really chaotic. I think they should beat the knights and then they each have to fight a clone. I think this scene should happen at the same time as Phasma killing Snoke and finishing her arc. THEN after they kill the clones AND the knights, there will be a real version of snoke that they each have to fight. I like the idea of them fighting each other while this is happening, but it seems chaotic.
I also like the idea of Finn being a Jedi Master and Rey being the padiwan. And Kylo Ren putting storm troopers through rehabilitation and helping them not get brain washed like he did is PERFECT. This would of been 100 X better

So what you are saying is that the improved ST has more meme potential? Considering the lack of memes from the actual movies and the straight up better plot (that with the exception of character personality and lore changes works with what we got as a basis) I’m fairly certain that this was the trilogy in a likely far better then our own alternate universe. 2 changes I'd make:
Finn has a white saber, canonically they are kyber crystals that were purified from the dark side, metaphor for him turning Ben and Rey to the light.
Rose is not force sensitive but has a yellow saber once used by Temple Guards, since she is the closest thing to one so Rose teaches Finn additional/advanced forms of saber combat that she had stored in from Cin Drallig's notes (nice little name drop)
I’d also like to make a change. I would like to make Poe and Chewbacca go on a separate mission in hopes of finding Lando. Finding Lando is how they learn about Snoke having clones and how to defeat them. They then go to find Finn, Rey, and Kylo to warn them. I hope that they gun the Giant version of Snoke down in the final battle in the Falcon but idk. I also hope to see more scenes with BB8.

As a whole I'd rather a much better trilogy where Luke IS the greatest Jedi ever who rebuilt the order, etc etc. But this idea of him being dead would be super cool and make sense with what the movies tried. Okay, here's a quick question: If Rey being a force plague makes everyone love her, why was she kicked out of the city? If you don't have an answer, here's how I think it would work: The force plague effects aren't permanent. If she stays with a person for long enough, it wears off, and that person has an opinion of her based on their own thoughts. My evidence for this is the alien salesman from the first movie. IIRC, he said "Your charms don't work on me anymore," implying they once did, but stopped. So what happened with Rey's rich adoptive parents was they were disgusted by her at first, and then her force plague abilities made them love her, but after a while, it wore off, and they were disgusted by her again, even moreso than before since she manipulated them and got everything dirty, so they, like Ben said, threw her out like trash. There's another level to this: Since the other characters still like her after the time the force plague effects would ware off, it proves that she is capable of making people genuinely like her without the force, and she's not just a manipulator.
That's a good idea, the fun thing about the force is you can use it to cover pretty much any plot hole. I have a few ideas on how that would work:
-Rey was just inexperienced and conflicted so the power wouldn't work forever
-Rey had some of the dark side in her the whole time, so her force connection to them would eventually give some of the dark side to them and make them hate her, which would explain why her parents stopped loving her even though they raised her and they should've grown to love her anyway
-Everyone has the force in them, so over time the force in them would try and resist the pull. But if she only has the light side or whatever was similar to them then the person would reach back at her in the same way. This would explain why her and Kylo had a connection (they were both conflicted) and why Kylo wanted to stay and rule with her without knowing her at all, and why Rey in turn wanted the same

I think they already explained it in the video that someone force sensitive enough eventually showed up and just called them out on it, causing everyone to realize they've been duped
There is still weight behind it working that way, because even after Finn gains resistance and Kylo just resists it outright, they still believe in Rey and she has genuine friendships

kylo calling rey an anomaly literally gave me goosebumps despite there being no auditory buildup to it/ considering i didnt get goosebumps watching any of the sequels, this shows this is a significant improvement

I like how this rewrite didn’t really CHANGE the sequels but just took a different approach on generally the same plot, which almost frustrates me because it just shows that the plot was there and in good taste and makes me wish even more that I could see the sequel story executed correctly

I think that having the junk trader be the same species as watto could be a good idea because that could be a good way to explain why her “charms” won’t work on him just like how the Jedi mind trick qui-gon used didn’t work on watto
Watto's resistance to the Force wasn't a unique thing. The more different a person's mind is from the one influencing them, the harder it is to do. That's why Geonosians were considered effectively immune to mind tricks. This was also a learnable skill, as seen with Cad Bane requiring 3 Jedi (and quite a bit of mental anguish) to crack.
I'm not saying he couldn't be a Toydarian, but it wouldn't be a requirement.
Rey being an anomaly (but not the Dyad in the Force bullshit, a straight up, horrifying anomaly with powers nobody should have) is great, Finn being rewriten to show actual empathy towards the troopers and being the real Last Jedi is amazing (and boy, you managed to make Rose relevant AND to make her sacrifice actually meaniningful, I'm impressed) but Luke being a Force Ghost the whole time is freaking perfect. It makes so much more sense.

The Rey force plague plot twist was amazing but it kinda fell apart in the third movie.

There is a premise for "Force Plague" in Star Wars.
In KOTOR 2, Meetra Surik (the main character) can easily form Force Bonds with others which allows her, at an subconscious level, to manipulate them to fight for her regardless of their own choices. She takes this to the extreme with her mentor, Kreia, who can telepathically communicate with her and they can even feel each other's physical sensations (such as losing the other's hand).

I'll be honest I think Rey saying "Nobody" at the end of the last scene would be a nice and neat way to wrap up her character arc
Well the cool thing is, since it cuts that would be an equally valid interpretation. I could see MANY internet debates sparking up as to whether she would say “Rey” or “nobody” in the last scene
I would like to point out that what you've designed is a story that is pushed by its characters rather than its writers. By making the characters in the story real characters and causes the story to go in a different direction. The original sequel trilogy was pushed entirely by the writers and therefore sucked because it was supposed to happen and not because the characters caused it to happen. Your version feels very character driven which makes it satisfying also I feel like it breaks way less of the established rules of the Star wars franchise.
Sadly the hyper space ram seems here to stay, but I can think of a few ways to make it work. In particular when it is pulled out of hyperspace by the mass shadow of the ship it hits we see it physically tear through the ship it hits, the reactors exploding all over the place and shrapnel tearing through the other ships at near light speed
Dude this is what Finn should have been man. I always thought that Finn should have been a Jedi because him having been a storm trooper is such an interesting origin for a Jedi! But because I'm black, whenever I said this to anybody they just assumed I wanted a black Jedi, and not that like, you know, I want a better story lol
@Rtkts That's interesting cause I think it's the exact opposite. I feel like you still get that anyone can right their wrongs story with Finn, considering he's been a storm trooper since he was stolen as a child. He's for sure committed attrocities across the galaxy while being under the First Order. So the force could be a path to redemption for him. And in a film like star wars, shouldn't the ability to use the force not make or break a character? Half the people in the series are force sensitive, but that's usually not what fans like about the character. Most people I talk to thought that Rey was super boring and uninteresting, despite her being a force user, only finding interest in her backstory and origin. Finn has a great backstory, with moderate charisma when he's not just screaming "REY" at the top of his lungs lol. I think him being force sensitive can only enhance his character based on his past. Also I'm not like, saying you're wrong or that your opinion is unfounded, I'm just sharing my thoughts 🎷
@stockart whiteman While I agree with you, the scene with Finn on Takodana was so ruefully EPIC. it showed us what could've been. Finn being a jedi, or maybe Finn being a warrior with a lightsaber (my favorite lightsaber), withOUT the force, would both be cool, and obviously better. Finn being the second black jedi wouldve been a major point, and a stepping stone for more mature (as in, more developed, empathy wise). Rey could've been another jedi, or more of a wondering jedi, not by any code, while Finn is a true jedi or a warrior without the force
You either get an interesting diversity card from Disney or an interesting feminism card from Disney. In this case we got a main character with no soul, and finn and Ben having SO MUCH potential but they're ruined by bad writing and a horrible story. I thought fin was way more interesting.

I think anyone that can admit this Trilogy is flawed (unlike those simping for this Trilogy, and calling anyone who disagreed a racist/misogynist/whatever) flawed but had potentially recognizes that Finn A) was the character with the most wasted potential, and by extension the most disappointing and B) should have had an arc involving the Force and at least been put on the path to becoming a Jedi.
Now this video has him opposing Rey, which is fine....but I think it would have worked with Rey not going fully to the Dark side, but just being more tempted by Kylo and Finn taking a more traditional light side path, which inspires Rey to come back and they team up or something

That's actually a problem with The Force Awakens, not The Last Jedi. The entire plot of The Force Awakens is finding a map to find Luke. Based solely on what we know from TFA, SOMETHING caused Luke to withdraw from galactic society. SOMETHING caused him to do it in such a way that'd make him hard to find. SOMETHING caused him to turn his back on his friends. No matter what TLJ did, resolving those SOMETHINGs in a logical manner would piss off a lot of people.
The thing is, we didn’t know Luke was hiding and in Exile until TLJ, was Luke solving the misterios of the force? Was he finding a way to defeat the Darkness and make sure his fathers legacy lived for ever? Was he meditating on how to safe Ben? Or was he simply hiding from his problems? We didn’t know anything, TLJ showed his reasons to be there.
Yeah, the original plans for the trilogy always sounded more interesting for me. From what I recall, it takes place with Luke focusing on his new jedi order so he walks away from the lime light with the sequels focusing on Leia and her children. It would be a more political-centered movie with the new republic vs remnants of the empire vs Maul and his entire crime syndicate. I believe there's a star wars theory that goes into more detail.

Luke actually being a ghost the whole time was more emotionally impactful and surprising than anything in the Disney Trilogy. Making a new threat while using stuff we know about already was great. You undid the "Rey is a mary-sue" problem in an amazing way. Great job.

The concept of Zen Finn does sound cool, but I just wanted to say I hate that everyone keep saying all he does is yell "Rey". He did it once in the first movie and I think twice in the last one. In those cases she was in danger and he was calling out for her so it made sense. Then again because the sequel trilogy really dropped the ball with his character after TFA that's all people remember him for and that's a shame.
@Alex Fiet I meant yelling her name when in danger. Not mentioning and or referring to her. This is a two minute compilation. Finn had way more screen time than that. And I mean his laser focus makes sense when you consider what's happening in those scenes and their friendship. I just think it sucks that because Finn got the short end of the stick in the last two films this is all anyone takes away from his character. I guess that was my main point. He does more than just that but this is all anyone remembers.
Rey being able to use the force from the beginning makes perfect sense as it establishes she has some experience with the fundamentals and makes her instant proficiency with mind tricks and force pushes less ridiculous.
I do like the actual use of Finn being a jedi in this, I felt it was a wasted opportunity with what they showed him doing in force awakens

The Poe and Chewie dynamic is fantastic, there's a level in skywalker saga where this plays out and I loved it.
Snoke is very similar to funny valentine with being willing to dispose himself for his "greater good" in the same way that funny valentine died himself multiple times without having his conciousness transfered.

It's also very similar to the villain of DC legends season 6. Clones were previously established in a different season so they made the guy who invented the clones into a master manipulator who started out good and used cloning to prolong his life but isolation+ centuries of time passing made him all crazy. He also welcomes death and has many of them in that season because he believes all the clones made after his death to be the exact same as him

I just want to say, the "Luke was a force ghost all along" really got me. I don't know why, but I almost shed a tear at that part for some reason. Probably because it reminded me of the movie Sixth Sense. I honestly wasn't expecting it, and it was pretty damn cool.

One of the biggest problems with TLJ is that Rian intentionally wrote it to undermine the entire good vs. evil narrative present in all the other Star Wars movies (he admitted to this). It destroyed the cohesion between all the films and made the previous ones seems pointless, which is one of the worst things you can do as a writer. I’m all for moral complexity in a universe that’s literally black and white, but not in a way that craps on the overarching message.

Ok I love this video a lot and have watched it a dozen times at this point, and I thought of a little something to add in that I think would be great. Someone else suggested that there could be a scene where Finn is looking for Luke and he finds the hut Luke’s been staying in, and in this hut he discovers Vader’s lightsaber. He then sees Luke at the door and they have a discussion about how Vader was his father and Kylo and all that. What I want to add is that in Ep9 we see Finn wielding what is clearly Vader’s lightsaber, but maybe modified a bit to better suit him and for marketing purposes, and most importantly the blade is white.
For those of you who don’t know what this means let me explain. Basically all lightsabers are powered by these special force sensitive crystals called Kyber crystals, and Jedi make their lightsabers by connecting with one first then making the actual saber. Sith meanwhile will use the Dark Side to corrupt the crystal before making a saber which is why they always have a red blade. And finally, a white blade is made when someone finds a corrupted crystal and “heals” it through the Force.
Since redemption is a big part of this rewrite’s plot and Finn’s character I thought this would be a fitting addition.
I really wish I had seen THIS version of the trilogy.
Or that it existed, but this is likely much harder to make than a typical fan edit.

Finn is poking around the island when he sees a box under Luke’s bed. He pulls it out and opens it. Vader’s lightsaber is in it. The camera shifts and we see Luke standing in the doorway, at first with a slightly angry face but then it softens.
Finn says under breath, “is that..?!”
“My father’s lightsaber,” Luke says, alerting Finn of his presence. Finn is startled but then realized what Luke said.
“Darth Vader was your father?!” Finn says, a little scared. Luke nods.
“He was one of the best Jedi of his time. But then he was corrupted by the Emperor. He became the most feared person in the galaxy.”
“But you turned him back! You saw that there was light in him and you turned him back to the light side.”
“There was no light in Ben. The night that he killed my students and destroyed the temple, I saw pure, raw hatred unlike what I had ever seen. And I created it. I was the one that allowed it to happen and I will not let that happen again!” He force pulls Vader’s saber to himself and storms off.
In a later scene, he puts the saber back in the box and touches it thoughtfully. Then, he ponders something, and we see him walk away quickly, which cuts to your version of the scene with Yoda.

How the hell did you make Rey COOL? You integrated one aspect of the world with another to create something magical, something more powerful than before!! That’s so creative!
Along with this, you actually dedicated to the Dark Side thing instead of teasing the audience with it, both as respect to your audience but also making Rey a sort of “dark reflection” of Luke
I'd also suggest making Finn's use of the lightsaber even more clumsy and amateurish than in the original at first. These blades require a great knowledge of the force after all.
There isn't anything inherently special about a lightsaber. However, using one would still be VERY weird, even to someone who might have actual close combat training. Compared to a similar weapon like a vibrosword, lightsabers are HORRIBLY balanced. The blade quite literally weighs nothing so all the force has to be levered through the grip. That's probably why most lightsaber deaths are from slashes rather than being cut in half.
This rey is so much more interesting than the original.

Making Rey just as useful, while actually making her a likable character, and actually using her to introduce something NEW to the Star Wars universe? Along with that, it actually makes SENSE? Yes. Wonderful. Also making Kylo a likable human being, whose redemption actually makes sense? Whilst making his relationship with Rey fun and interesting? IMMACULATE. MWAH. AND, on top of that, making Rose Tico useful and actually a cool character?? Making Captain Phasma have a point in the story?? Making Snoke an actual threat?? Keeping Kylo, Rey and Finn alive? It’s what they deserve!! AHHHH
Just a couple of points from the start of the video: I don’t think Luke being a hermit makes you less invested - you become invested in him regaining his heroism, and it’s incredibly satisfying by the end. Snoke’s death is also an amazing moment for spectacle, it’s an amazing plot twist and everyone in the cinema gasped. Great moment.
This was a really good rewrite! I love your new directions for the characters and the way you recontextualized existing scenes to fit the new twists. I would've been thrilled and legitimately shocked (in a good way) to see this version in theaters :)
