Thanks for this video bro, I got Puma Deviate Nitro 2 wide black colour on a 50% off online and bought it. And I'm yet to receive it, not sure if it will fit me or not 😅
You are going to be highly sought after bro. You are straight and clear with your points and your descriptions (help us visualize the actual feel of the shoe). I got the deviate nitro 2's recently and I can't feel something apart from what you've described (great job there!) I've also never seen anyone who explains about affiliate links openly in their videos, and I've never seen anyone who says they'll do a review if the shoe is in their affordable range. You rock.
Wow! I really appreciate all the kind words! I’m so glad you found the video helpful and informative. Trying to be as practical realistic as possible. Thanks again!
Great review. You’re bang on about the outsole. I’ve recently got some Speed 3s. I love them but that sole does not fill me with confidence. I do fancy a pair of Nitro 2s but the price is high at the moment. I found some Nitros 1 going cheap and I quite like them but they have their own challenges: so far, good for single figure mileage but I worry about taking them over 10.
I'm a huge fan of the Velocity Nitro 2. It is currently my favorite all around shoe for daily training runs (slowish, fast pace, etc.) I have not yet entered the realm of "super shoes" with carbon plates but that's just fine since I'm a fairly new runner trying to define my running goals with local 5k, and 10k runs. I appreciate this review and will consider this shoe as an option when I'm ready.
I just received mine in "wide" and I don't even want to imagine how narrow the "regular" version must be. Puma should probably re-label these. The regular should get a "narrow" label and wide should become the regular. I'd say the "wide" is a regular D width. Definitely not 2E. Very solid shoe otherwise. Plenty of rubber on the sole. The midsole feels awesome. Good heel lock for me. No hotspots from upper anywhere. US sizing is TTS. EU sizing is offset by half size for some reason, as in US 9.5 is EU 42.5 instead of EU 43 (???). I'm keeping them, but I do wish they where a bit wider in the toe box.
That’s really great to know! Thanks for mentioning that. I’m sure it’ll be really helpful to others. Glad you’re liking them so far. I’m still loving them myself. Took them out for a fartlek this morning. Still one of my favorite shoes! Thanks again for helping the community👍🏻
I think it's more likely that the guy in charge of the website is just sloppy. It doesn't make any sense to have a different midsole and outsole material for the regular and wide versions of the same shoe
You’re not wrong 😆 That certainly is a possibility. Although, that many things? The plate, the foam, the outsole-it’s just too many things to be sloppy on.
Nice job. The Velocity 2 has been a great shoe. I wonder when the Velocity 3 will come out and how will it be different? I tend to avoid plated shoes so the Velocity has been my choice. Thanks.
That’s awesome. I love it when a pair of shoes just works perfectly on the feet. The Velocity 2 has certainly caught my attention. Definitely excited for what Puma is doing. Thanks Tim!
Great review, amigo! It’s a really fun shoe…as a 6’6”, 250 lber, it has worked really well for me…i was able to snag the First Mile colorway for a $50 discount but that orange colorway is absolutely 🔥 I have the Endorphin Speed 3 Runshield on order so will be fun to compare the 2
Thanks so much Josh! Glad to hear about your positive experience with the shoe! That’s awesome you were able to snag that discount. Def intrigued to hear about the ES3 Runshield!
I fit into velocity 1's ok in terms of width but I do have some beefy feet. They are %40 off where I am right now so I ordered them, there was no wide option anywhere. Fingers crossed I guess.
which shoe would you suggest for a slightly overweight person who is transitioning from brisk walking to slow jogging? Velocity Nitro 2 or Deviate nitro 2?
The differences between the regular width and wide width are interesting. I got the regular width in US size 8.5 in the white colorway, which is half-size up over my normal 8 because I read/saw from the reviews that it runs on the narrow side. Overall, half-size up fit me fine although a tad long. Then, I realized how great this shoe is and I wanted a black colorway version for rainy/wet conditions and saw that it was only available in the wide size version. So, I ordered this in my normal US 8 and it fits even better while being lighter by about 0.4 ounces, which is not insignificant. They both feel great and ride like each other, but I like the wider black version a little more, mainly due to the slightly better fit. Now you are saying that the foams and the plates are different between the two? Has this been confirmed by Puma or do you think these are just inconsistencies on their site of two people doing different things? Not that it really matters. I love both shoes and it has become my favorite daily trainer, even though there seems to be some debate on whether this should be categorized as one. Best "plated trainer"? Best "max cushioned trainer"? Best "versatile trainer"? How many sub-categories do we need? lol Anyway, thanks for the review and the info. I'm absolutely loving this shoe along with the Adidas Prime X Strung and they get my vote for the two best road running shoes of the year.
Puma's insoles are not flat. They are usually 2mm higher on the heel. If you measure with the insoles on, you'll get 8mm drop. But if you leave out the insoles, they're 6mm. Same thing with the velocity Nitro 2. Without the insoles they're 8mm drop, but with insoles they are 10mm drop.
Hey there Aristodiga82. I haven’t tested the Velocity. I didn’t find your measurements consistent for the Deviate Nitro 2s. To get specific, the heel portion of the insole itself, for these specific shoes, is closer, albeit just shy a centimeter than it is to 2mm. I don’t know if that helps. Lemme know if you have any more questions. Thanks 🙏🏻
@@timetorunchannel I got bored of black and grey white shoes, I really need new colors like the sunset color way, I don’t know why shoes companies always make the wide running shoes in black or grey, I do have a blue wide shoes from Asics Nimbus 25, what I need now is the yellow color (sunset - puma) ☹️
Good question. It’s not that the wides didn’t have a sufficient amount of energy return. They definitely do! Just from the comparison of the two, the Regular width shoes had slightly more return. I would guess that Puma’s objective was to get them as close to each other as possible, between the two foams and plates. Thanks John!
@@timetorunchannel Understood - I was referring more to the forefoot flex - a full carbon plate would be stiffer than a composite plate, which matters going up hills, for example.
I wasn’t entirely sure since, as you probably also found, there isn’t anything listed on their website about the insole itself so I just called customer service. They said it’s also their Nitro infused foam. Hope that helps!
In conclusion, what is what, which is which, which is what, what is which? Too many models of the same name, and different width dictates having an elite foam or not just confuses me. I’ll grab the Deviate Nitro 2 instead.
Is it really that versatile and comfortable for a easier lower pace run? I mostly run at 7 min/km pace, and i read some reviewers experiencing discomfort and stiffness during their slower pace runs.
Hey Defandra. I personally think the versatility is there. While I wouldn’t use them on a slow weekend long run, this shoe handles a variety of paces quite well even, in your words, easier paces than your daily miles. Like I mentioned in the review if the fit is wrong and they have slightly wider feet that could certainly be an explanation as to why they experienced some discomfort. My standard size 12 was just slightly too narrow so I had to buy the wide. Hope that helps!
@@timetorunchannel Thanks for the swift reply! May i ask what's your slowest pace in this shoe, and were you ever experience any stiffness underfoot? My prior experience with plated shoes was Nike Zoomfly Flyknit 2, which is excel at higher paces but clearly not for easy pace.
@@defandranurredityo2493 No worries. Yes, I’ve taken them even as slow as 10:30s/mi pace. The carbon plate was certain doing its job but as for a stiffness related to comfort, there was none whatsoever. Hope that helps

Yes, I haven’t tried the Velocity yet. Intrigued to do that in the future. Hope that works out well for you!!
Is the midsole on the wide actually wider or is it just a roomier upper?
It's definitely a wider midsole.
@@timetorunchannel Excellent, thanks.
which shoe would you suggest for a slightly overweight person who is transitioning from brisk walking to slow jogging? Velocity Nitro 2 or Deviate nitro 2?
I’d go for the Deviate Nitro 2. But honestly it would probably boil down to which ever shoe was most affordable at the time. Hope that helps!
Appreciate your reply. After discounts both at very similar and affordable price of less than 90 to 100usd in India
Good night. I usually wear 10 USA in Pegasus and saucony ride 15. Should I wear the same size in deviate nitro 2? Thanks
Yes, I would go with the same size. Reason being is that I think both of those shoes (as well as the deviate nitro 2) all fit similarly.

Where did you get the sunset colorway in wide, I never see this color in wide on puma website!!, can you provide a link, thanks
Strange! Yeah I don’t see that they offer that color way anymore. So weird

The composite plate should have been more flexible than the full carbon - does the wide version flex more than the stanard vertsion?

Gotcha. I didn’t think to check that. Would have been a good idea though.
did you follow us sizing or eu sizing?
I buy based upon U.S. sizing.
