I tried on the Saucony's at a running shop and loved them immediately but going into the winter season with all the wet & leaves and light firetrails I run on it feels like the right decision to go with the Puma's
Loved your video. On top, perhaps it would be great to see some feedback wrt the endurance of these shoes. Obviously, Puma will have better durability since it has more grip but wanted to see your feedback on this as well.
As someone just beginning to reintroduce a rotation to my shoe line in prep for marathons and races, I'm really enjoying the Saucony Speed. I'm not experienced enough yet to fork out for a Carbon Plated shoe, but I think this will work as a trainer/racer combo. Some people have told me plated shoes are also good trainers because they encourage better form. I do most of my daily runs in a Pegasus, which has always been a reliable shoe for me. If conditions are super wet on race day, I can always just do the run in it, I'll lose some time, but I've never had comfort issues with it, and as of now, most of my PBs were set in Pegs. Just getting into being a little more goal oriented in my running workouts, I find the sheer selection can be pretty dizzying, but Nike Pegs have been good to me, and the Saucony line, in general seems to have a lot of solid shoes for different purposes. At the moment I'm not going to bother with the really expensive Carbon shoes like the Vapour Fly. My plan through winter spring is to use Pegs as Daily Runners, and once it gets closer to spring, Saucony's minimalist Kinvera as a training tempo runner, and the Speed as my race shoe, occasional trainer. Are the Speeds completely useless even on dirt/gravel? Some of my country routes involve occasional forays onto such surfaces, not for too often or too long, but it gets you away from the traffic. Have you ever run in the Saucony Kinveras?
I bought Zoom Fly 5 few weeks ago and I am positively surprised. These are the first Nike shoes that I really like and feel comfortable using them. The weight isn't that bad. It is the same weight as Asics Nimbus 24 of the same size. Glideride 4 are few grams lighter, but still I run faster in Zoom Fly 5. If you don't run the race below 4:00 per km, you won't feel that they're too heavy.
this is so true i am in middle school doing xc with my Zoom fly 5's with 5 min per km for 10k and it has been great. The grip is not terrible and i do not notice the weight at all. If i were running on roads i would choose the streakflys
Man this is the review I needed. I’ve just bought a pair for Christmas and I was worried about all the negative reviews as I wanted these as a tempo/race shoe but I’m only trying to go around 20 min for the 5k so it’s good to know
Thank you for the video! With autumn and winter just around the corner, I decided to purchase a pair of Pumas from the sale. I wanted to ensure I’m prepared for the colder running conditions, and these shoes seemed like the perfect choice for the upcoming seasons. The discount made it even better, so I couldn’t resist grabbing them!
Regarding wear on the Saucony's, I'm 190 lbs, supinate a little, and have 270 miles on my Speeds. The tread on the rear outside is essentially all worn smooth.
I totally agree with you. Personally the Nike Zoomfly 5 is not even in the conversation. I would sub the New Balance Rebel 3 instead. But the the Puma and the Saucony are so close. I think the Puma Deviate Nitro 3 is more fun, but if I were to pick just one shoe, I would pick the Speed 3.
Puma as it's the best allrounder with better grip, stability, looks and price compared to the Speed 3, doesn't sacrifice anything meaningful to me (not looking for max perf in a training shoe) I've tried the Speed 3, owned the Speed 2 and today I ran on ICE with the Pumas..
Picked the Noosa Tri 14 as my speed day shoe for this year but recently took advantage of the season sales to also buy the Takumi Sen 8 and Deviate 2 precisely due to concerns over grip. I do a number of small, local, olympic triathlons every year and more often than not the running portion goes through some gravel path/fire road/sand and so I will be using whichever of those two turns out to be grippier.
I have two pairs of the Speed 2s I'm working through right now, but I'd love to get both the Puma and the Speed 3 down the line! The plan is to wait for some sales, lol. But I am eyeing the Puma as a possible road-to-trail shoe.
I absolutely love my Saucony Speeds! My current rotation is Triump 20s for recovery/slow runs. Speed 3s for more uptempo, faster long runs. Endorphin Pro 3s for race day. I also switch in my Kinvara 14s for when I want to run shorter sprints with a nice ground feel. Have you tried the Endorphin 4 series yet? Thoughts on Kinvara Pros? They seem like a quirky and fun shoe.
Ah such a perfect timing for me! I need to find another alternative for my Nike Air Zoom Tempo NEXT%. I can't seem to enjoy other shoes that do not have carbon plates so these could be great options. Thank you so much!
I have the Speed 3’s and at first I was a little disappointed because I like my Novablast 3’s much more. There was something about the Speed 3’s that felt different. However, I am starting to come around. I think that part of me felt that the Speed 3’s are too light. I might be changing my mind about which shoe I like more. Now that I am getting used to them.
My mind is getting completely blown with the speed shoes.. my current endorphin speed 2’s are coming to the end of their lifespan. Looking for a shoe that is specifically for hill sprints, intervals and speed work track/treadmill Any suggestions please to Ben and the knowledgeable runners that follow him
For hill sprints and speed work, I would imagine you want a lightweight / fast show - you really can't go wrong with the Endorphin Speed 3 - you can grab them for about £120 online if you shop around. Saucony aren't releasing the Speed 4 until Spring 2024. Being an owner of the Speed 2s, you should really enjoy the step up in the Speed 3s.
Ive got the Deviate Nitro 2 and the Endorphin Speeds but not the Nike. It was interesting to compare the Puma's with the Endorphins since people have been saying they are very similar. Just coming back from injury so havn't used the Endorphins for a while. Went for a short run in the Puma's yesterday and really enjoyed them very comfortable if slightly on the heavy side. The Endorphins definitely feel much lighter on foot and have a more of a shoe that's suitable for racing. The Endorphins are still my favourite shoe of all time so much so that i bought 3 pairs of version one. I shall be using the Puma's for shorter runs.
@@user-mc5ru2to8p yes i got a UK 7.5 in both shoes although strangely the Puma's are EU41 and are more on the snug side but still comfortable. I have a slightly wider foot than normal.
Interesting. So far in my research the Deviate Nitro has edged out the Speed 3. The feedback seems to be that the Speed 3 is pretty meh compared to the Speed 1, and the Deviate Nitro is filling in the gap that the Speed 1 left. So a bit surprising to see Ben going with the Speed 3 here, but it goes to show that different shoes work for different feet.
On my 1st Saucony Endorphin Speed I did more than 1200 km, my 2nd is 1000 km on it's way and is still not completely finished. I use both 1st version around the house now (not for running). I'm on my 2nd batch of the Endorphin Speed (the 2nd version) now and they are resp. 180 and 460 km on the way. I don't have the Speed 3 yet.
I'm very happy with my Puma Velocity Nitro 2 but I wonder if I should have payed a bit more to get the Deviate Nitro 2 instead ... I got the Adidas Adizero Boston 11 and would love to see comparisons bettewn it and these other shoes you have showed in this video !
@@wasifali1326 For Adidas I use all of their running shoes in the same 8.5 US size, and that includes the Boston 11 or the Ultraboost 22. While for Puma ,the size 8.5 was not available and so I got the size 9 US and it worked well for me,just a tinny bit long but comfortably snug all around like I love a running shoe to fit my feet.
Puma DN2 is having a Big Sale in our country converting it only cost 92$ if converted to USD. But I just bought a new pair of shoes. Shoes are over the place. Is this an addiction? 😅
Great video! Still haven’t committed to the top tier shoes so this is my area. Have the zoom fly3 and saucony speed2s, ran my marathon in the speeds just amazing very lightweight and still giving a bit od that pop ! Nikes are good but the weight kills them a bit for racing we agree on that one. I guess the nike folks just want you to go for the alphaflys 🤷🏽♂️
Nike shoes are not durable at all. Just picked up the speed 3, feels comfortable but ive got so many shoes already only thing i dont like are the stretchy laces though.
Thnx for pointing that out. I also really dislike stretchy laces, too, as well as stretchy shoes in general. Would be nice if such aspects were mentioned in reviews.
I think it just depends on the model. I wouldn't particularly trust anything with an air bubble so that rules out the Alphafly and Pegasus models. My pair of vaporflys though has so far held up extremely well over the first 100 miles, almost no noticeable wear on the outsole, and I've seen people even put 500-600 miles and they still hold up pretty well
i have the zoom fly 3 that has lasted about 600km and recently got the pegasus 39 last week and no signs of wear after about 50km (i know it’s not much) and also my streakflys have been surprisingly durable although i don’t know how far i’ve ran in the because it’s only on the occasional workouts and races but they have had at least 75km + i think
Fastest ? Nike Tempo Next ! I have the Speed 2 and Zoom Fly 3. ZF3 was my favorite shoe before other plated shoes were released. I think they are great for slower runs, they are quite comfy and have a good amount of cushioning. But I usually like to run faster so I now prefer Tempo Next and Speed 2. Speed 2 feels more natural but also offer less cushioning so #1 is Tempo Next for me .. at least for now. Also Tempo Next is relatively similar to Alphafly so it seems logical to train in a similar shoe as the one I will be racing with. The main negatives about Tempo Next is that they are not so great a slower pace imho and with all the cushioning and technologies, I'm not sure they are the best to help maintain a good overall fitness.
I am looking for a "racing shoe" for my first marathon. Hoping to do it in just under 4 hours. The rout is 50% gravel and 50% road. I did buy the FuelCell SuperComp Trainer, but it is to mushy and feels unstable because of the high stack. What shoe you recommend?
Any major difference in arch support in these 3? I thought the Pumas were super but a bit too flat under the arch to my liking. Doubting to try the Saucony
I do pretty much all my running in the Speed 2s and I love them for their light weight and springiness, but now that they’re discontinued I don’t know what to buy 😢 I’ve done 250km in the Speed 3s but don’t like them as they give me arch pain (maybe due to softness) and they’re not springy. I’ve also got 300km in Puma Nitro Velocity 2 too and really dislike them, which puts me off the Pumas in the video. Does anyone have any recommendations for shoes that might compare to the Speed 2s in terms of ride/springiness, high stack and preferably plated? 😅 Probably a bit specific :(
No need to spend that much money on the Puma Deviate Nitro 2. Just volunteer at 2022 Weltklasse Zürich Wanda Diamond League Meet and get it for free in your official volunteer uniform. i absolutely love that shoe in terms of its versatility, comfort feel and stability. Maybe one of the best shoes i have ever had in my Rotation.
Have my 2nd pair of the Deviate 1 and now trying the New Balance SC Trainers. I really like the Deviate and plan to purchase the 2. The Deviate have great traction, fit and last long…375 miles first pair and 185 so far on 2nd. Even ran the Atlanta half in the first pair when they had 250 miles because the course is very hilly and it was raining…great traction. I like th SC trainer but will no way get the same mileage out of them. Saucony are way to narrow for me in the forefoot and I have average d width feet.
If ONLY Saucony would fix the outsole rubber grip, which is atrocious on wet pavement, the Endorphin Speed would be perfect and I wouldn't buy anything else. Hard to believe they haven't fixed this huge problem with now three versions of the Speed.
I feel that the Deviate Nitro 2 might fit those with slightly narrow or average width feet better than the Speed 3, if anyone is after the fit like a glove feeling but decided that stuff like the Takumi Sen 8 is overkill/minimalistic. The Puma grip is also phenomenal on wet tiles. I just got the DN2 at a pretty good price though and generally from what i see it'd run noticeably cheaper than the Speed 3 in most countries/websites, just usd 99 on 365rider and UPS Express costed only like usd 10 to my country (actually i shared shipping with another shoe so that's only usd 5 in reality). PS. Colourway and overall design is the best out there of any shoe, IMO.....so that's another +ve point. Sometimes i use it as a sneaker during shopping lol.
Watched last night, but just seen the thumbnail again. Is the ordering of the shoes like the medal rostrum of gold, silver & bronze subconscious or purposeful? 🤣
PUMA was the surprise shoe my feet enjoyed best, saucing was close Nike was a joke, the shoe made a popping noise each time I walked on a hard surface? I don’t know what it was put it was so bad I through them out, later to find out others were complaining about the same thing worst shoe I ever purchased
The speed2s were great. But I have no aspirations to buy the speed3s, not at the current price. Nike, those are bricks. The pumas seem to be the potential winner as much love that they have received. Can't find them here in the U.S. to save my life.
I ordered another pair of Speed 2 on discount over the summer for when the current pair die (currently 400 miles), I’m sure I’m going to get much extra from the Speed 3.
@@vincewarne228 I literally just hit 400 miles in my speed2s this week. They are still in great shape but definitely not anywhere near as good as the were in the first 200 miles. Outsole is in excellent condition. I'm not a lazy runner so I'm pretty easy on outsoles. The midsole has become very soft. I can compare them to the midsole of my pro2 which have about 130 miles on them and there is a big difference. All in all still my favorite shoe and will keep them around for shorter faster stuff but anything over 8 miles leads to some foot and calf discomfort which I'm not experiencing in some of my newer tempo based shoes.
Is this now becoming a comedy channel? "3 market leading plated training shoes, the Nike Zoom Fly 5..." is a good one, or did you mean to say 2 market leading plated trainer and one from Nike? ;-) Previous Speeds were too unstable for me, but the Nike Tempo works well for me, Speed 3 seems more stable but then the Pro 3 felt even better, but also much more expensive than the Speed which is not cheap to start with. I eventually got a Pro 2 with a good discount and use that as a speed trainer next to the Nike Tempo and (non-plated) True Motion Solo (which by the way could be a great shoe to review for you).

Please @BenParkes how is the new balance fuelcell propel v4 compare to the Puma deviate 2 and Saucony speed. Thx in advance
thank you, great review
I just buy a second pair of puma deviate nitro 2, great shoe for the money!!
Sometimes i use it as a sneaker during shopping lol.
what best daily trainer shoes for u (not plated)? many thanks!
Ok. I will try out the puma then.
Watched last night, but just seen the thumbnail again. Is the ordering of the shoes like the medal rostrum of gold, silver & bronze subconscious or purposeful? 🤣
We made the cover photo last week.. a long time before the review!
@@BenParkes ah subconscious then spooky 🤣
What the ES3 has a plate? Never feel it😂
it's there mostly to give some stability. I'm not sure it does much tbh... :D but I can't really tell 100% because I rarely push it beyond 3:30/km.
I think you confused the deviate nitro elite 1 with the deviate nitro 2. One is a racer, the other is the speed trainer.
Yes, I've messed up there. Picked up the wrong shoe for the video and Puma being still a bit new to me I didn't realise. Apologies.
REPLY
I’ve got some Nike Pegasus 37 which I quite like but I only run for 5 or 6 k at a time.
Puma is def $200 American and the Saucony is $160
I like Puma.....
The Zoom Fly 5 is a heavy brick with a Carbon plate. One of the worst shoes of 2022. The Deviate Nitro 2 looks good, going to grab me a pair soon.
pee-u-ma? 🤣
Nobody needs plated shoes unless you are a professional runner who needs a new PB…
