  • Just a quick video showing the install process for the G-Force Crossmember for the 83 El Camino. Should be similar for any 78-88 G Body. Transmission is a non original 700R4

      @@av8buddid you use the bushings that you wedge between the ends of the crossmember or you bolted it straight to the frame?

    • @av8bud

      @@BIGRALPH2011 my kit only came with 4 sets of nuts and bolts, I don't remember having any bushings. I definitely used everything in the kit and would have used them if they came with it. matter of fact, I had to buy the trans mount separately.

    Did the transmission sit higher after installing this crossmember? I noticed I had to jack it up as far up as it can go in order to fit the energy mount and looks like it will only drop about an inch or so once I am done.

    • @av8bud
      @av8bud  ปีที่แล้ว

      yes it did, but from my side it didn't make a big enough difference to change any of the drive shaft length or anything like that

      @@av8bud Thanks. I think its because my car may be on jack stands and with the rear wheels hanging low it makes the drive shaft angle look higher on the transmission side

    I got a 85 monte carlo just installed the 700r4 and I can't get my g force crossmember to budge, one side goes on but can't fit the other side on. How is your angle on the part you bolt to the frame? Mines at a angle and i can't seem to get it together... Any help would be well appreciated

    • @av8bud
      @av8bud  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      hey, yea mine is angled too. what are you having an issue with? the issue i ran into was it was rubbing the bottom of the floor pan, so i had to really hit it hard to get it into place as you see in the video. I probably could have also pryed the floor pan up a little to get it moving but i didnt want to punch through. If thats the issue, bolt one side into place and then bang hard on the other side like i did.

    Did you use 2 bolts on both side of the crossmember connection to the frame?

    • @av8bud
      @av8bud  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Adam, with the new G-Force x member, yes. With the stock one, no, as I had to modify it.

      What kind of bolts did you use on the side for the frame

  • @boxboy50

    how are you doing? i have an 84 monte carlo with the 700r4 conversion and crossmember. did you have to use the frame extension for your install?

    • @av8bud
      @av8bud  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      BoxBoy, no I didn't use any kind of frame extension, the holes lined up with the crossmember perfectly. This was just a bolt in application so it was a direct fit. I believe part number is RCG-700.

      I have the same xmember too the reason I was asking is because the transmission mounting bolt snapped in the mounting hole closest to the bell housing and I drilled it out..too much so I figured why not use the holes by the tailshaft

    • @av8bud
      @av8bud  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@boxboy50 hmmm, not sure I follow which one youre talking about?...if its just one of the bellhousing bolts you should be fine if you have the rest...I actually stripped out one of the 2 tailshaft bolts myself, and once everything was put back together I had my shop clean it out. Currently only 2 of the stock frame bolts are holding the crossmember in place in the rear hole I think...they have done fine with keeping it in place thus far

    • @boxboy50
      @boxboy50 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      On the 700r4 transmission in the Caprice it has two mounting locations one closest to the fluid pan and the other is near the tailshaft.

      @@boxboy50 ah gotcha, interesting...I pulled mine from a 90s Silverado 2wd so all I have are the 2 on the tail shaft to mount to the xmember
