ive been driving a 2020 soul for a year now as a company car, nearly 30k miles so far and its really grown on me. i always loved the looks but i wasnt sold on its practicality, or its overall feel, but i am now. i am considering getting one myself. i like the turbo version but i dunno about another direct injection engine... i had a 2018 wrx for 3 years and cleaning valves constantly sucks ass, and if you dont your down on power and efficiency...

Fr! I used to think these cars were so funky looking. I wasn’t a fan, but one I purchase my 2017 I fell in love ❤️. It’s like having a SUV but more compact and better on gas. I plan on upgrading to this model soon.

I just traded in my Jeep Wrangler, which I really liked, but I never drive off-road and the Wrangler's steering and top-heaviness was very concerning driving on the highway, especially curves or if the road was wet. This vehicle really surprised me: one of the top-rated vehicles on Consumer Reports (I originally went to the Suburu dealer but was bored with the Crosstrack I drove). This is so fun, sporty, handles wonderfully, great pick-up with the Turbo. Its safety features, advanced technology, huge computer screen (or whatever you call it) impressed me. I'm looking forward to driving it.
I just traded my wrangler in too, although i did not buy the turbo model . i bought the base Lx 6 speed model. I love the soul. Great gas mileage, plenty of room and it even came with a back up camera. Already took it camping

I have the 2018 Kia Soul + and while I love my interior, this 2020 interior is absolutely gorgeous. The shifter is way nicer than mine. All in all, a great facelift in and out, although I still don't know how to feel about the tail lights.

It super weird to admit this, but I've become a huge fan of Kia. I just helped my sister buy a used 2020 Kia Soul GT-Line Turbo. Earlier this year, I bought a 2023 Kia Stinger GT2 "Grand Tourer Edition", my mother-in-law bought a Kia Seltos a couple years ago, and my wife is excited about the EV9 at the end of this year... Wild. I used think Kia's were the worst. Now they're somehow my favorite.
Kia has completely rebranded since 2003 , but even back then kia was making decent cars , not sure where the bad rep came from . Guess if something is cheaper than Honda , then it sucks lol.

I wish they would offer all the amenities of the GT Turbo, but with the 2.0L with the excellent iVT transmission. Closest you can get is the EX model, but it doesn't have the heated steering wheel, Harmon Kardon audio, and the LED light effects.

I've always loved the Soul, use to drive them a lot when I worked at hertz...almost bought one, but not having a spare tire at the time was a deal breaker 😅 (I lived in a pot hole filled town & was always replacing tires)

This is what Ive settled on for strictly highway commuting and then just putting around town when home. It seems to be the most pratical and logical. And its unique. And I love the Mars Orange color. The Bright Orange isnt bad either.

I was gonna get a Forte GT until I realize I got a Golf GTI already if I want thrill. Got a Kia Soul lx 6 speed mt instead
I wish they sold a soul with this engine in a Manuel to lower the price. Just like the space and height more than the forte
weird thing about the GT2 is they charge MORE for the manual version.
More like a Dodge Challenger or the basic mustang v6 is better and 2k less
@@sulya8962 I own a '16 mustang and just bought a '21 Forte GT2 with the DCT.
You cannot compare the challenger or mustang with the Forte or the Soul...even if they, too, are in the 26k - 32k (depending on options).
Main reason is SPACE. I love the mustang but its just for 2 ppl and maybe 2 small women in the back...
There are other reasons, performance wise, but thats needless to say....

The dct has its quirks but between adding k&n and a mac solenoid upgrade, the mac solenoid upgrade that controls the wastegate for the turbo fixes that jumpy feel of the throttle. By far the best upgrade Ive done. coming from a automotive background, this soul has been the favorite over the 2 kias Ive owned, but oddly enough I still miss my buick regal now and again. If I had my choice, I would love to get the kia sportage sx turbo, that was the most comfortable car I’ve got to test drive but the msrp is like 35k
Jimmie Romero good to know! Also the Sportage is a bit of a wolf in sheep’s clothing, I remember I really enjoyed my week in that a few years ago. They’ve updated it since too.
Jimmie Romero The new soul and Forte GT have a different electronically controlled wastegate so they do not have a boost control solenoid like the older cars. They also have a slightly different compression ratio.
TheTopher yeah I drove a 2020 sportage sx turbo awd, absolutely loved it. I promised myself once I got a better job after college Id get one. I just graduated in January, job searching, then house and sportage. i remember you saying something like the soccer moms evo and I couldn’t agree more!
Rich Shriber right on, thats cool to know. I enjoy my 2018 very much, its a comfortable, sporty, funky car forsure. I enjoy the amount of power it puts out, and I’ve been looking at alot of the veloster forums for engine and transmission upgrades. However, it’s going to stay with the k&n and the solenoid upgrade for awhile.

Was looking at a used 2022 Soul Turbo. Almost every review has mentioned the poor performance of the DCT. More than one has said the base engine and CVT was a better, easier to live with choice.
I’m considering to get Kia Soul for my next vehicle in Korea. Sadly I can’t get new one because they don’t manufacture this model since last January. So I’m looking up on pre-owned markets. wouldn't catch me dead in one over 5k. Absolutely miserable vehicle.
I bought the gt turbo and other than the jerky auto-clutch sometimes, it’s great. AWD would be good. It’s worth noting that the body is bonded together, not spot welded or screwed like other vehicles.
Its a really slick whip that has all the bells and whistles. Even has more horsepower than a CRV. Plus, I spoke to several mechanics and they confirmed that it's a low-maintenance vehicle that will last a long time without any major issues just as long as you keep up on the maintenance schedule. The only thing I was consistently told is that you get professional engine cleaning every 25,000 miles ($150 tops) since its a V4. Will run forever if you do that.

I have Kia soul GT line 2.0 bought last may new ,I love it fun to drive!a year later with 8000 miles I have engine problem 😡 Everytime I shifted to park engine shut off (dashboard lights say shift to P or N to start Engine)well it's already park except I haven't turn off the ignition.Its been in shop 4 times replaced some parts twice (4 coils and cooling system )still have the same problem 😑 I uploaded 5 different videos here.

Have you tried turning the auto stop-start off? It’s the little light with an A in the center and an arrow around it. The ignition turns off when it senses you stopped the car and are on the brakes to a certain level. Whenever I forget to turn mine off, it turns the engine off and immediately on again. I just turn it off and don’t have any issues, 35k and still going strong.
How does this compare with the Mini Cooper Clubman in terms of fun and interesting to drive. I know the Clubman S (which is comparable in terms of power) is more expensive but they can be had gently used for about the same money as one of these new.

Nice review guy, didn't get all cartoony like the other dudes. I'm a SUBSCRIBER. See if you can grab a 2021, they claim they tweaked a few things. Would love to hear if you feel the improvements. Contemplating getting a TURBO. wish I could get it together with the manual. X-line would be nice if they made it in black also. Thanks again.
2022 they might just add in the independant rear suspension since the EV and Kona N-Line will be getting them.

Late but yes! The LX (base model) unfortunately does not, but the S and up do.
The soul is a good platform. Might look into one if it's that price
I can hear a lot of wind noise. One thing that I don't like about my 2015 Hyundai Elantra is the torsion beam suspension and the high wind noise. It is otherwise very reliable.

Finally a car that doesn’t have CVT... Why do manufacturers like CVTs? They’re supposed to be less reliable and they don’t sound and feel good at all.... are they cheaper to made or what?
they claim it increases fuel economy but I don't believe that one bit. Your fuel economy will drop when that CVT starts to break. and they're known for breaking
@@Lincolnator721 My IVT fuel economy is 36 mpg for 70% highway/30% city driving. As for durability of the IVT, don't know how it compares to the CVT. Powertrain warranty is pretty good.
CVT is the lazy way to engineer extra mpg.
Hey!!! I have the red turbo! I miss the auto side mirrors and the black ceiling with electric open double moon roof. They went cheap on some things this generation but I still love my car. Oh, and the red paint is such a pain in the ass. I’ll never understand why they don’t give you more options when it comes to color.

honestly I always kinda hate the Kia Soul looks, but after driving it, you kinda just accept it and like, it's a pretty cool car, especially if you turbo it and make it sound nice 👌

I bought the 2020 Soul EX Eco Dynamic version earlier this year. About 2300 miles on it. Used to drive a 2000 Ford Mustang GT V8 260 HP/302 lb-ft of torque and tire-smoking fun. But needed a new car. The EX has telescoping steering wheel, 10-way power driver's seat, plus much more accessible room than the Mustang. Zero to 60 is about 8.3 seconds; Mustang was 5.4. But still quick at low speed where you don't feel like your in a econo-bug. IVT trans is good with normal and sport mode. Sport mode keeps the rpm from dropping so you can keep the power up if manually shifting the IVT. Super easy to park. As for the Turbo, I did drive it. I don't like that, with turbos, when starting out on a cold morning you have to drive conservatively until the oil flows well through the turbo. And when stopping after like driving on the highway or in hot weather, it's also recommended in the owners manual to idle the engine for a minute to flow cooler oil through the turbo. Not doing this can "coke" the oil and you'll have premature failure. That's what I can say.

Just bought me the 2022 model GT line 2.0 two weeks ago, and man I like it shit bad.. the second day I drove it, was a night just cruising and enjoying my shit.. try to pass a car in-front of me and as I pull out to pass the car the same car pull in to my space that cause me to sway trying not for them to hit me.. but I think because minds came with low profile tires and even with my 18” wheels I think that why I didn’t flip my kia .. now as for taking the hill man that shit can hold it own am impressed with my 2.0 engine

I agree. I know they have the seltos (which comes with it standard on the same platform), but the engine isn't as powerful and more focused on light off-road than performance on the road

Joshua Jacob GTi does that too. Vw is much better nowadays and being reliable and comfortable compared to 10+ years ago
Mk7_Ravi you don’t have as much space as this does in the GTI. You’re getting an extra 3 inches of legroom in the back, which does make a difference, the 10 year power train warranty is hard to beat as well.

Try changing the drive mode to Comfort to ease up on the stiff suspension. Also smoothes out the shifting. As a reviewer you should have know this. Also, the Adjustments on the Audio will help you with the Harman Kardan system. bassy and muddy are certainly not how I would describe the audio. It's terrific if you learn how to use the EQ.

I think power is mismanaged. My test drive smoked the tires on right turns when hitting the gas. If I was in snow, I'd hate it.
A big difference between quick and fast. The soul is quick as stated. Also not comparable to the civic or other sedan. A lot of tech and space for the price. Also turning the wheel and mashing the gas will create wheel spin. Duh.
@@ericdolby1622 It's natural to accelerate when coming out of a corner. But the turbo needs to be tempered more so than a non-turbo because of that wheel spin. So duh back to you.
@@ninemilliondollars so what you are experiencing is the spooling of the turbo. That is also indicative of turbo cars. Never as linear or predictable as naturally aspirated because of the small delay. I find that these spool fast for a factory setup. It helps that they are small twin scroll units.
