The #KiaSoul may have been late to the box car party a decade ago, but for 2020 #Kia has given the #Soul a very extensive overhaul. While the original competition has left the market years ago, Kia continues to sell over 100,000 units every year making the Soul one of the best-selling vehicles in their lineup. The 2020 model has improvements in ride/handling, interior design, technology, and fuel economy. The new #GTLine also takes some style cues from the Kia Stinger and while AWD is still not available, most Soul buyers didn't seem to mind.

The Soul wasn't late in the game. It destroyed the segment. The original boxes were so discouraged they discontinued their products.

It's really crazy how normal cars have so many features nowdays. That brand of speakers he mentioned, isn't it the same brand used in some of the older but higher package Mercedes?

@@VaunShiz Fords have gone to B&O most recently from Sony. GM has gone to Bose. Kia and Hyundai have gone back and fourth between Infiniti and Harmon Kardon. It's mainly due to what licensing agreement they can make at the time. Every penny spent on a factory upgraded system would be better spent aftermarket - at least for drivers and amplifiers - most people really don't care and if the difference between the "nice" system and the base one is $300-500 they'll usually pay it.
Good morning guys! For those of you who briefly saw this video go live late last night, we took that one down due to an error during the render process which resulted in only 10 mins of the video actually being rendered out. The Soul EV was also not available to drive during this program but Kia says they will have a separate drive program for that model at a later date. Kelub Martyr We have not driven the new Mazda3 at all. We’re hoping Mazda will have the FWD model at the media drive we are attending next month. If not, Mazda will most likely give us the car for a week back home very soon, stay tuned!

Led is not as visible in daylight as regular bulbs. maybe some rule in the books about that.

Saw this car the other day. I work across the freeway from their corporate building. This car looks way better in person.
Say what you want about Hyundai/Kia. They are always the first ones to bring up to date technology to the affordable car market. They stay on top of all their cars in their lineup to make them fresh. Half of this tech isn’t even available in the lower level bmw,Mercedes, and Audi’s.
And I like the fact I bought a used 2015 Kia Soul EX with the nicer infotainment system and it didn't have Android Auto. About an hour later and in my driveway after transferring the updated software from the UVO site on to a USB stick i was in business and had updated GPS maps too... Didn't cost a dime or a trip to the dealer. Ford has done similar in the past but they usually require a new USB header for $50 or others like Mazda $70 for the dealership to do the upgrade.

I love the rear lights. The "boomerang wrap around" look is volvo-ish. I want one now just because of this.

Ha! Same here. The seats and steering wheel material is all that matters. Why would someone worry about the dash material, unless they like want to make love with it? Now, I can understand wanting a matte dash that doesn’t glare in the sun.

I think the Soul looks better in every aspect. Nice update to the look while still maintaining the shape we are familiar with.

I was all set to upgrade to another with pano and ventilated seats, 160+hp.... BUT NOOOOOOOOOOO.......... KIA designers have to 'eff' it up! Get it right and I will buy another!

That's why they changed over to the Kona shared set-up. They will most likely offer a *hybrid* AWD Kia Soul in 2022 - if not sooner. It will share a lot of the existing Nero specs for mechanicals, yet has been updated considerably to maintain a continual 50+ mpg
It needs awd to make it the perfect little car. 200hp FWD is less than ideal
Just Traded in my 16 soul for a 2020 soul GT and I love it.
I never really thought of the Honda Element as one of the ‘cube’ cars of the day because it felt really like an SUV, especially with 4WD. It was basically the Jeep Renegade of the day.

I have a 2015 Kia Soul. I must say, I REALLY dig this 2020 model! Very cool that Kia has kept with the over-all look of the car, and despite what others say, I like the rear end look just as much as the rest of the car. Similar, but just enough change to keep it fresh! Once I get around to wanting to upgrade my 2015 model, which might be a while longer since it's such a fantastic car, I will be looking into this 3rd generation model!
Panoramic sunroof gone ?! This is no longer my dream car... I had this car when it had everything that made it awesome... Cooled seats and panoramic sunroof was the reason I bought the car without even test driving it.
I must be the only person alive that really doesn't like this "HUGE" grills on some of the newer cars nowadays, I know to cool the radiator n engine and yada yada cuz these cars are now pushing big hp n tq but eh
Agree! It's a horrible trend that needs to end. Most of them are fake grilles anyway.
And with the new Toyota Avalon, it has a HUGE front grill, but it's mostly for show and not function.
Kia came a long way, congratulations!!!
The 1.6T has been worked over and now produces 205 ft lbs with overboost. It's a very capable engine and really has been dialed in with the chassis that it's on.

Center mounted exhaust is for sports car, not for biking activity ppl in mind, for you can't install a bike hitch in the back, that is a turn-off for my taste, lack of vision in design its practical use, nice car but sad design in the rear end!

So they kinda cheaped out with this generation. No independent rear suspension or AWD upgrade like was expected, loses unique features like the pano sunroof and cooled seats, no update to the instrument cluster, the seat designs look worse, and the rear design is questionable...
I was thinking the same thing always loved the previous gen Soul and checked this one out at the Autoshow! Yikes! Feels much cheaper inside than the previous generation. No longer cute and quirky. It's hideous. 😓

Honestly the only thing that impressed me was the look of the front. I've loved the Kia Soul ever since I first drove one as a rental and any time I get the chance for a Soul, I'll actually go for it.
Kia soul has some flaws,but still one of the best selling vehicles on the automotive market today.This car is not just the best,but a survivor because it beat out all the rest to be number one.Good job Kia.👌👍👏👌👍👏👌👍👏👌👍👏.

A couple years ago I had to drive a base model Soul and busted out laughing. But after driving it for a week I completely understand why so many people buy them. It turned out to be the most practical car I’ve ever driven and at about $16k it’s unbeatable in its segment. If I was looking for a car in that segment it would be at the very top of my list. It’s butt ugly but it’s incredibly practical and priced perfectly unlike Civics and Corollas

@@InvestBetter. it's unlikely awd will show up in the Soul due to its size. Also, the Sportage being available makes it even more unlikely.
@@Chris-dy1cb There was a lot of rumors around the 3rd gen Soul having avail. AWD - these cars are popular up in Canada and probably would have been even more so. What is liked even more though is the seating height - older buyers don't have to sit up/in or sit down into the seats - the taller roof line also is nice for those drivers. Subarus have a bit higher seating height - that said, it would be interesting to see the two companies fight it out between a Forester and Soul with AWD. I like both brands but if tech is important my money is on the Kia - if the AWD system and ease of maintenance is more important I'd bet Subaru (Forester dropped the XT this past year so the NA motor is the only choice).
@@SirtubalotTX Well size isn't a good excuse. The Toyota Prius now has AWD, and thousands of owners and intenders have told Kia they want an AWD option. If Kia doesn't listen to their customers, that on them. The Sportage should have nothing to do with it. The HRV and several others in the class offer it.
I can’t help but think that the interior should have had more straight lines and square-ish design to mimic the exterior
The front looks pretty good, fairly similar to the Ford Flex imo. The rear is ridiculous looking. I'll wait till Toyota brings back the XB in their lineup.

I prefer my second generation 2015 plus GDI model. I use it for my work car using it for Uber/Lyft. The car is amazing and built tough! I have owned many cars over 30 years of my life. And this car takes a beating and keeps coming back for more. I only use synthetic oil every 3 months. And I maintain the fluids each month. I somehow am not into this new look on the 2020 model. The thinner lights turn me off. And the panoramic sunroof no longer available is a bummer. But if these new models are built tough to last. You can't go wrong buying these cars for dependability! And that is very important when considering what car to buy!

Nope. Not at all! Always loved the Soul for years and then this! What happened? Design went backward. The inside looks so cheap and strange when seen in person. 🙁

Like a fungus it's growing on me. I didn't like the new Mustang (2015) and then again in 2018 with the latest restyle - seeing a car you thing is abhorrent in person sometimes helps. And when there are more on the road people typically warm up to them. I didn't like the styling of the 2nd Gen Souls either when they came out - now I have two of them ;-)
Not a Kia fan, but the tech in this model is very impressive.
They got rid of the Pano Sunroof? Thats a HUGE loss IMO.. I loved that pano roof..
Ball chillers is an even bigger loss. It was the cheapest car you could get with them. They are going to lose a shitton of money in South Florida.

Oh and in a couple months the Soul will be 10. I had a 2010 Sport with the 5-speed manual in Titanium gray, spoiler and sun roof (about the only options you could get with that trim and it was $18,700 out the door. I took delivery in April of 2009. I believe other parts of the planet had had the Soul a little sooner. Was a great little car then and now - I have two - a 2018 Turbo and 2015 EX.

I have a 15 Plus and if it had AWD and was a little heavier this would be perfect for Wisconsin Winters
The panoramic sunroof has been awesome until I got stone chipped and shattered in the middle of motor way (equivalent to the freeway in the US) last week. Also the large surface of the glass may not be safe over the course of time if you live in a place where it's 34C during the day and the temperature drops to 4C at night...
That's really not that big of a temperature swing H. I have two souls with the pano roof and one stays in my driveway (car park for those out your way). We sometimes see over 100F in the summer and well below zero F in the winter (we just had a spell of -23 F) - no issue with the roof on either auto. I do see that the glass would be expensive to replace if it does get broken. I have "comprehensive" insurance for things like that - I would need to spend about $50 to have it repaired if it ever does. Our family has had quite a few vehicles with these pano roofs - two Ford Flex's, a Ford Explorer, two Ford Edge's, and two of the 3 Kia Soul's - never an issue with any of them. Perhaps a bit of bad luck?
@@Scotty_in_Ohio I wasn't talking about the seasonal temperature. I was talking about the temerature difference in a single day. I heard that there are so many class lawsuits for shattered panoramic sunroofs. We don't even get the panoramic sunroof here at all....

Love the soul just had one for a week a 2018 with 2.0. Great car for what it is. I hate they took the pano roof and ventilated seats away

Hunter Jackson i have a pano roof and I think it’s a liability. Hot/cold between inside and outside make it prone to cracks and it is not cheap to replace. Something fell on it and it cracks..you’re out by a few thousands $. Plus at high speed, it can smash which is very dangerous. I only use it on sunny days but I have to crank up the ac as it gets really hot. So a lot of people don’t want that..
As far as boxy cars go, I prefer the Kia Soul, and the Honda Element.

The front of it's quite sexy. Like a Range Rover Evoque Retro Hatchback/Minivan concept car, especially those front lights. Very impressed.

I love the turbo... it is so awesome. I love the way the first gear is set up. It's definitely fast. I don't like how you can't get the wheels to spin a little so you get a tiny boost of speed. Ive tried everything but I cant get my Tucson to do it...
We've had a first gen Soul for 6 years. It's been very reliable, though it's clearly an economy car. One "major repair during that time. No pretenses.
I for one LOOOVE the Kia Soul and Kia has finally improved on the original. Last gen not. But now..love how "fat" bottom it is! They've made the lower body more fat n chunky lowered the car and slicked up the upper hood line roofline of the van. Tech improvements lighting and sporty comfort improvements make the new soul fantastic. I wanted a 2012 but now finally I can buy the new new new Soul. So happy
Very odd & disappointing that they got rid of Leather seats, Ventilated seats, Panoramic moonroof, Speaker lights, Power folding mirrors. Especially considering this cost more then the previous gen with all those said options, makes 0 sense, I won’t be upgrading, I’ll look elsewhere. I think they just killed the Soul.
They didn't get rid of the ambient lights, they actually made them better. For every feature they omitted, they added 1.5 new features. Things such as dual zone climate control, a larger/higher res infotainment screen, more safety tech, paddle shifters, a much more powerful (2x the watts) sound system, a HUD, and full LED lighting up front.
they will probably bring it all back in a few years so they can make the later model years sound better
I could care less about any of the options you mentioned (especially leather, freaking useless for both keeping warm OR cool), but no power folding mirrors? How am I supposed to keep my door-eyes safe from Chicago drivers and brodozers in the parking lot now?
The speaker lights are pretty cool 😁 they could've kept option!

I first watched the review on Alex, and I really hated the rear look. But strangely, when I see this car the second time on redline. I can accept the look a lot better.
I still prefer the look of the outgoing model and the one before it but this is warming up on me. Other than that this is another very nice revision, sure it's not for everyone but the Koreans are knocking it out of the park time and time again and well, credit where credit is due.
