I've had mine for 2 months now and can't say enough how much I love driving this car. I never thought I'd own one of these. The room in the back is phenomenal. I know it isn't a sports car but it sure is a lot of fun to drive. The DCT really makes this car come alive although it's not for everyone. If your looking for a silky smooth automatic then this isn't the car for you. Those headlights might look a little futuristic but I can say they work phenomenal after the sun goes down. I always love your reviews and this one is right on the money

I really don't like the boxy shape, but this thing is insanely well-equiped for the price! I honestly don't even care what it looks like anymore.

With the new generation Soul Kia continues to knock it out of the park as it joins the Stinger and Telluride generating rave reviews. It's no wonder that the Soul model lineup has been expanded. The demographic range of buyers is probably broader than any vehicle in the industry. My local dealer could install a vending machine in the showroom and eliminate a salesperson or two. They sell as fast as they're unloaded on the lot.
The strength of each Soul model is its versatility. This is compact hatchback marketed as an SUV that's nearly a foot and a half shorter than a Mazda CX-5 yet offers more overall cargo space (62.1 cubic ft vs 59.6). Comparisons of the GT Line to the Subaru WRX or the Veloster N are amusing. One might as well compare the Soul GT to the cost of remodeling a kitchen. The WRX is a great platform for building a rally vehicle. And the Veloster N is a track toy out of the showroom. But which best accommodates four passengers for a several hour drive (or even a journey half that)? Which is the best vehicle for a monthly trip to Costco? Which offers the best infotainment system and other convenience and safety features? Bottom line? Boxes have been used for hundreds of years as containers. There's a reason for that. They hold a lot of stuff.
It's not a perfect vehicle. No vehicle is. Some will complain that it lacks AWD. But KIA says their market research indicates neither current Soul owners nor potential customers rank AWD as a high priority. In fact, about 30% of current owners thought their Souls already had AWD! In any event while AWD is a trendy feature in some climates, FWD in a small vehicle with a good set of winter tires and the weight of the engine over the drive wheels will perform just about as well in challenging winter conditions as a comparable AWD vehicle. All at a weight savings equal to an NFL defensive back sitting in the back seat.
And sometimes a small item can be very important to some. For me, it's the lack of rear seat HVAC vents. My big dog's second home is the back seat of my GTI. He would complain loudly if he couldn't have that. (Not to mention my 15 y/o daughter.) All in all, I wouldn't trade my GTI and its superb DCT for a Soul GT. But I can understand why my local snail mail person who delivers a wide range packages all over our island in her Soul is so happy with it after 200K miles.

I just bought a 2020 GT line with the 2L motor and not the 1.6L turbo. Mine has red body and has a black roof. This video made is what what kept me with the soul! Thanks for the review it helped sell me on going GT line Soul!

I'm convinced that KIA Hyundai has harvested some BMW engineers because there's so much I see in their cars that are like BMW. The Koreans are really upping their game in an exponential way. Just in the last couple years I've seen the quality and technology really take a huge jump. These guys are really on The fast track.

It starts with something called "Disruptive Innovation"...Toyota, Hyundai, now Kia...in that order...look up the concept in the quotes, is a perfect strategy for underrated manufacturing brands in the Automotive Industry...It can be applied to ANY industry, but when done properly...you get great cars like this one, and at a much faster overall development across the entire brand...😉
Awesome review, the Soul does offer a lot & worth checking out if you don’t want a boring cuv or suv & want to be a bit different then the norm. Plus KIA has an amazing warranty, probably one of the best in the business
The Kia Soul has always been a difficult car for me to look at. I've never really been big on the styling of the machine. Very quirky looks, but it's utilitarian, so I gotta give it props for that. addendum: I paused the video at 1:05 to post the original comment, and right as soon as i pressed play, you mention how quirky this car is. Kinda funny how that works out. Another addendum: Okay, this redesign is starting to grow on me. You're right, the body lines are placed perfectly.

If I was in the market for a compact SUV this little pocket rocket would be on my list for sure. And that's saying something because I'm like you I've never thought this thing looked very good. I think I would prefer this over a Mazda cx-3 or a RAV4. I'm currently driving a BMW X3 which this can not hold a candle to but nevertheless this car reminds me a lot of how the Germans put something together.

Nice review Joe! Seems you really like the Soul. It is such a unique vehicle. In other markets, this car does come with full leather, ventilated seats. Shame they don't offer in the States.
I love your reviews. I actually bought a 2020 Kia Soul EX. I was worried because it doesn’t have the turbo and it has a CVT but I will tell you, the CVT in the Soul is SO MUCH nicer than the Honda HR-V. The 10 in infotainment screen is literally incredible- reminiscent of the one found in Mercedes vehicles. Additionally, I was able to fit an entire fridge in the back with the seats folded down.
Wish this was all-wheel drive for colder weather States.

Nick Hill I understand! Winter tires are the only way to minimize braking distance in snow and ice.
I also believe horsepower is way overrated. Not every car needs over 200-300 hp.
FWD is just as good in snow.
in regular snow conditions on the paved roads maybe, but there are some scenarios where you miss that AWD

I do kinda wish the 6 speed was offered in the GT line. But I am beyond happy with my 2020 base model 6 speed that I am so lucky to find on the dealer lot. It has more than enough power for my daily commute, and the driving dynamics is surprisingly good

I have the GT Ltd in Neptune Blue ....I'm in Canada and we don't have turbo but it has cooling seats for front passengers and heated seats for all .... 😁 TONS OF POWER .... almost scary 👀 I had a 2017 Kia EX+ and I LOVE the changes they made ... so awesome .... I love the versatility of the sun roof too ... pop up or full open .... then the screen .... I LOVE MY CAR
The vehicles with the DCT transmissions that I like seeing reviewed are the vehicles with no console shifter lever. When I see a console shift lever that tells me that this transmission may not be capable of paddle shifts all day long.
I wish Honda would make a 2nd gen Element.

The panoramic sunroof is gone but a standard size sunroof remains.
It’s the Veloster Turbo bigger sister that is less fun but more serious and want to have kids.

I have seen and test-driven both at the dealership several times. The EX is nice but, man that GT-Turbo is hard not to fall for when comparing them side by side. I'm torn lol!

@@Prxsumo I took the white EX eventually and loved it. In hindsight, I would've appreciated the top trim, but I figured I didn't really need it to commute to work or drive the wife and two dogs around town. The turbo would've come in super handy if I were a DoorDasher though lol

When this first came out, I was really disappointed that it didn't offer IRS or AWD. But now I understand why. They just released the new Kia Seltos, which has those features and more. Really wicked little SUV.
That must be the global version of the Kia Kona. It's not as spacious as the soul that's for sure I think I would rather have this turbo soul over the Kona. Especially with the DCT transmission. The kona only has CVT I believe which should be avoided like the plague.
How does the passengers space front and back compare to a mid size sedan?

I’m wanting to purchase a new car around this time next year and this is the car I will be buying in red of course so everything matches I keep looking at other potential cars but always keep coming back to this one there is just no better value for your dollar plus you get a turbo.

GT-Line is the 2.0L w/IVT with the same styling but lacking the interior features. This fully loaded 1.6 turbo with 7-speed DCT is the GT.

What I found was...Joe was talking and explaining and pointing some of the details of the car....while the camera man just wont take any closer of the details at all
THREE SERIOUS ZONKS!!!! They lost the front cooled seats, No heated rear seats and no full panorama sunroof!! I own a 2014 ! With whole shebang package Kia put these in 7 years ago!!!!. Not giving up my panorama sunroof and cooled seats!! LoL

You can go with this or you can go with that. I think a prefer the toaster. 🐿 The engine however is pretty stout for a Kia Soul. It looks like a Mars rover from the back. Kia needs to come up with a better symbol to represent their vehicles. 29k means I will never have any soul. I never had any rhythm so it fits. 🕺The red on the top portion of the door makes it look like it’s on fire and not in a good way. Keep it up 👍 young man!!! You are the best.

I have the Kia soul gt line not sure if it’s an EX LX my zonks on the model i have is that the backseat isn’t passenger friendly I don’t have usb ports,no center console,or backseat cargo pockets. no storage at all in the backseat other than the door pockets. My other zonk is the audio sound system really isn’t that impressive.

However the positives are that it’s sporty,quick,fun to drive, and very roomy for a small car. Most likely I have a base model GT line and that is why I don’t have the added things that are in the EX model.
Not a bad car, I don’t know how to classify it truck, suv or crossover. But I kinda wish the soul was available with AWD. For those who daily drive were snow is a factor.

It's fun to drive I love it so I bought one last year Kia soul GT line 2.0 Neptune Blue.Until this year with 8000 miles engine started to shut off by it self while parking.(dashboard light says engine auto stop is off shift to P or N to start Engine)it's follow by check engine light 😡it's been in a shop 4 times in counting they still couldn't figure it what's wrong with my new car😡I uploaded 5 different videos on TH-cam.

Yeah the Koreans are really upping in their game in a big way and their interior quality fit and finish and engines pretty much confirm to me that they have harvested some BMW engineers especially when you look at that teleride that's BMW all the way. these guys are not to be messed with and Toyota needs to be sweating beads at this point. What I've seen in just the last few years is pretty impressive from both Hyundai and Kia which is the same company.

$29,000 at MSRP? Brother Joe, I say nay. $25,000 out the door max for the Kia Soul, these dealerships are robbing the people of America blind. At $29,000 I’d be looking for a 270hp AWD Subaru WRX or maybe a Forester/Outback.
You should be able to get a much better deal. You can get the top of the line Soul in Canada for $29,595.00 Canadian ($22,533.10 USD). Granted the Canadian model doesn't have the turbo engine, but that's a very, very big difference in price.
it's a simple utilitarian box. keep it simple and pay 20k or bump up the stereo and a few other things. the red stuck on this box is dumb.

Why would you want electronic parking brakes? Manual ones are a lot better and simple
If it doesn't have AWD as an option it isn't a crossover in my book
also for 29k you can get a WRX Premium which has more power, looks beautiful, doesn't have hamsters advertising it, AWD, 2.0 turbocharged turbo fun, and a car that holds its value unlike a Kia soul.
