Greatest long distance runner of all time - even more dominant than Gebrselassie on the track and cross country, more versatile than Kipchoge - yet hardly anyone outside of the athletics community knows him (and, in contrast to the other two, most of his life is a blank to the ones who do). I think there is that distance running at any level for those that pursuit it over years is a pretty profound philosophical experience. At the level these guys at which these guys operate, I suspect they get to learn a lot about themselves and about the world through the discipline and reflection that the endeavour requires. Both Bekele and Kipchoge regularly refer to the marathon as being like life, with its highs and lows, setbacks and triumphs. The Lionheart from 2004 is still here and will always beIn the press conference after the race Kenenisa said he doesn't just want to break the record but in the future do MORE AND BETTER THINGS THAN THAT. no doubt he will come back stronger
Dont really know why but i feel like in last years Kenenisa has not been seen as what he is, the greatest runner in history. Is clear that Kipchoge has performed better at the moment in marathon but is also truth that just two seconds separate both of them while Bekele's achieves on track and the WXC are a step above everyone else .
I am a fan of Bekele, but it will be unfair to attribute credit to him on the roads based on his track career - the two are different not just by turf but by distance also. Just for a moment imagine that he never ran a single mile on the track, would you make the same statement? Now, you can easily say Eliud earns credit on the roads for his achievements thus far. If someone was to come close to Bekele's record on the track, we wouldn't rush to immediately want to crown him, but will insist he not only breaks the record, but sustains a commendable streak of dominance as well, before we mix them in the same breath. So is Bekele the greatest runner? Bolt equally has a commendable streak and records over two different races and does Daniel Komen and others. Maybe you are talking about distance? If so where does that begin? 5000? You would be running the risk of narrowing parameters to favor your case. So who is Bekele? I would say someone that is legendary over the 5k and 10k distances. We will not give him the Marathon yet, until he earns that credit. Now, he can never create a good streak because of age, he might maybe break a record, but I doubt the record might stand for long if he does, especially with the form of Kipchoge, who is younger. So if we look at things with a bit more detail and take out the emotions, we aren't so quick to cry foul over Bekele's due credit in the eyes of people - I believe he has been given the credit he deserves so far.
@@denisitele Sorry i meant best distance runner. I am not gonna discuss what is distance running as this is not something scientific so it is impossible to agree on it, I believe the majority of us understand that distances above 2 or 3 km is what we refer to by distance running. I think everyone would agree in the fact that is ridiculous to compare Bolt and Bekele, even though i forgot the word "distance"... If someone would come really close to Bekele's records in 5000 or 10000 m I would say exactly what I have said, that just X seconds separate both of them. According to you we can never state that someone is the best distance runner, we can just stick to specific races, "he is the best over 10000 m" or "he is the best in half- marathon" , that is a very comfortable position but some of us dont want to stick just to the obvious things. I wrote the comment as I have seen lots of others around youtube stating that Farah is the best distance runner, or that Kipchoge is the best distance runner, and it is not something sporadical but more generalised that what I could thought, and I just dont agree with that state and that is why I say that I think that Bekele has been underrated these last years. If you want to discuss why you do or do not think he is the best at that level is perfectly okay. If you just want to state clear things of course I am gonna agree with you on Bekele being a legendary runner (probably the best) in 5000 m and 10000 m and the same with Kipchoge on marathon.
@@gonzalogonzalez587 Of course I do not make the claim that Farah or Kipchoge are the best distance runners. Whoever chooses to make those kinds of brazen claims will definitely be called on to justify. It is not ridiculous to also compare Bolt and Bekele - most fans of distance running usually have this habit of sneering at the sprints, when they do have their unique challenges and injuries are equally as commonplace there. Can you therefore give me your reasons for considering Bekele "the greatest distance runner"?
@@denisitele When I said it is ridiculous to compare Bolt and Bekele it was not as a way of underrating sprint running, it is just because I think they are two completly different sports. In fact I think If we make the effort of forget that and try to give out the greatest sportman in the whole bunch of sports inside athletics, Bolt would have a pretty serious right to claim it. Anyway as I dont want to flood this my opinion matches a lot with this article tonireavis.com/2018/09/18/who-is-the-g-o-a-t/ which by the way doesnt even mention Bekeles WXC titles.

Is clear that Kipchoge has performed better at the moment in marathon but is also truth that just two seconds separate both of them while Bekele's achieves on track and the WXC are a step above everyone else .
He’s the king of the track
He is a gift from God!!!

❤💜🇪🇹💚
After nearly 20 years of competition and numerous championships and world records to his name. I believe he has at least one more world record left in him before he retires from competitions as long as he keeps his mind focus and his body in shape for one last ride.
When he faces off against his long time rival Eliud Kipchoge it will be a world record performance no doubt.
K. Bekele : Marathon is not about tactic. But its about Preapare mentaly, physically, focus, maintaining, training, determination, passion and love of the game.

Nicely done! Very good insight into a remarkable runner. Very humble, interested in being a role model and in helping others. As a previous comment says, reminds you of Eliud Kipchoge.
He is the best, with or without the record in Berlin
