I got the Latitude from the same era with i5 5 years ago for 250ish usd and it still works with an sshd, albeit it slows down alot with browsers these days. I didn't put ssd as I don't think it would be used at full potential as its sata 2 port only.

I had one of these with the i7-640LM as my main system a while back. Loved it until the fans decided to stop working properly. Overheated constantly, but was an absolute beast when it was running correctly. Only reason I updated to a proper PC was because I was starting to get into PC gaming. I'm sure this PC would have still been in use today by me if I didn't

Good restoration, I had a 8440p for a few years but I got a 8440w for free since it had a dead mobo and went all out after selling the p. New quadro board $35 on ebay, 820qm was $26 on ebay, 500gb WD blue on Amazon for $58 and a ODD HDD caddy for $15 with a 1tb rotational I got free from work. Already had 8gb of ram, the 1600x900 display and centrino ultimate 6300 wifi card. 820 is A LOT of chip for that cooler but it manages. I just use it for TH-cam and email and stuff but I love it! Incredibly surprising that it's capable of 4K from a browser. With proper HW/Accel from something like, say VLC or PotPlayer, especially KODI, you can expect it but straight from the browser? Not bad at all. Video playback from browsers usually takes a gargantuan hit in performance compared to a proper video player, so for a laptop this old to run it in 4K... Impressive

FINALLY. A video for about I7-620m and a 8gb of ram. I am planning to upgrade my Dell Inspiron N4010 (actually I am currently using it right now while typing this comment) with the same.. really the same specs. But I doubt for upgrading it because it may not worth it. but after watching this video. it gave me an answer if I should spent almost a 200$ for upgrades in this laptop or not. I am actually a High school student and does not have a solid income (my parents don't even give me monthly allowance or give me money for school. they only give me money if they forget/don't have time to cook lunch in the morning) so that is why I am very considerate in my expenses. I have an elite book nearly 2470p. It's 10 years old with an i7 and it's still runs fine with Windows 10. I can play classic games (Age of Empires II) GOG on the thing great and all the office stuff / internet/ video / audio streamng. I can draw with a Wacom stylus and is a great drawing tool in tablet mode. This thing is so old, it doesn't have an HDMI port, USB 3.0, but I think it has firewire (looks like the nuke symbol). it just as snappy a a budget laptop with all the great mechanical switches for wi-fi, volume, etc. it even has a pop up led on the screen bezel to shine on the keyboard instead of the common backlit keyboard today. better than a budget laptop in features and on par in performance. Just put in an SSD and maxed the RAM. I bought it to play Diablo II (4:3 screen so aspect ratio is perfect.)

Make a video on you modding an all in one pc with a gpu. It would be nice to see one. I have one of those, and I think I can do some more upgrades soon. Mine is a 2009 Acer Aspire Z5600. It had touch screen, but the driver for it are not working anymore, and I was unable to get drivers. Either way, just wanted to tell you for a suggestion, that exact model or similar would be very nice though.

It looks like it has been used in a corporative environment, hence its good-looking shape (I think). Great reparing process BTW, maybe in 3-4 years it would be perfect for a low or mid-spec Linux distro. But I liked the outcome anyway.

This is a strange comment to make, I know - but your accent actually makes me want to keep watching every video you make.

What if the old disk is clicking constantly and freezing everything that tries to get any info from it? (Disk management software, device manager, hell, even bios and prevent the computer from booting)

Great video! I have in my Dell N5010 the same CPU (i3 380M) and I plan to upgrade it. After I saw your video, I want to ask you if I have to use only the first generation of CPUs? I know I have rPGA989 socket.

Also if you wanted a tad bit more processing power you could have added the Quad core i7 720Qm which is also compatible in this laptop.

Hey. Have you tried installing a quad-core i7 720QM in an 8440p laptop? Is the cooler able to manage the heat after the installation?
