- Hi everyone, thank you for 24:25 of your time. In this video I restore ASUS PRO31S that I pickup right before be dropped in a trash. It's not some powerful laptop but one saved and one less to the e-waste basket. Now it is fully functional and good for average user daily basic tasks.

I dissassembled my old laptop because its motherboard didn't work, and I actually repaired it! I was proud of myself, considering that I was only 14!

Honestly probably not these are not very valuable, this one should not even be repaired. I had one in better condition threw it out with no thought about it there old and slow

I have this model of laptop with the Radeon X1700. A perfect windows xp retro gaming machine. The Radeon has excellent compatibility with older games. Well done bringing one back from the grave.

This is the first ever laptop I ever owned back in 2008. It was an absolute powerhouse and was used everyday until it finally died about a year ago. Very high spec for 2008.

If the Volts are the same (+- 5%) you can use a charger with *higher* Amperage or Wattage without problems. The laptop pulls only as many Amperes as it needs, so the more the Charger can give the better it is. It is physically impossible for the charger to push Amperes through it without changing the voltage, but the voltage is constant.

My mum had the exact same machine sitting in a cupboard. did the same upgrade (not CPU) the SSD took the boot time from 2 minutes down to under 30 seconds. Runs nicely, just doesn't like the modern games much. Great for a kids school pc or kitchen bench machine.

did you also replaced the CMOS CR2032 battery ? since its an old laptop, that battery might have been drained or dead.. I also do some laptop restoration ..

I thought as long as the amps is greater than or equal and voltage is identical you can use it. Great restoration as always, you're always very thorough. It's a shame most DDR2 systems are capped at 4 GB.
Some earlier DDR2 systems, such as Fujitsu Lifebook E8020 or Packard Bell Easynote MV46, are capped at just 2GB DDR2 total.

15:05 Andrew, if you went through all that trouble, why didn't you wipe some Isopropyl alcohol on the heatsinks to clean the old thermal paste off? I was enjoying the video on the restoration until we got back to re-seating the cooler!
