I have been have this laptop now 7 years and it still working like new. I actually travel very much and for me this is not too heavy. I can trust this laptop and when some day i need to buy new laptop that gonna be a Elitebook again.
I collect Thinkpads, but I fell in love with that HP. I got two Elitebook 8470p and an 8460p for almost nothing and I dedicated myself to restoring them. They had suffered blows that other machines would not have survived. I had to replace parts of the cases, keyboards, HDD drives with SSDs and the i5 with i7, as well as the batteries, and do a complete maintenance on them! But there they are, working like the first day. The best of hp
I have the 8470p with an i5 since 2016. 4gb of RAM weren't cutting it so I gave it 4 more on dual channel. Now it performs much better. I have a WD Blue SSD waiting for install. It should improve a lot. I love its weight, sturdiness and overall reliability and performance. Some days of the week I use it for work, 12 hours straight. Only the battery died soon since it was a used unit. But I can't complain. Prices of this model nowadays in my 3rd world country are skyrocketing.
Back when companies were actually trying. I also absolutely love how these 10+ year old tanks can still run and be loved by many people quite well. Can still be a good friend for day to day tasks. Makes me want to own one haha.
I got this laptop yesterday for my little brother so he can do his class work from home because of this virus. It's a great laptop for college work and as a desktop replacement. If you will have it in one place then it's perfect. If you are looking to move it around, it's not mobile because of its weight. For homework it's perfect. For anything else probably not. As an i5 it's great value and solid as fuck.
I picked up one of these as a spare some years ago just coz it was so cheap - and a couple years later entered service as my main machine. Been that way another couple years now, they are flippin amazing. it's an i7-3720QM variant with 1080 screen. Has dedicated AMD video as well but I don't play games so not worried about that. Had a newer flashier looking Toshiba i7 as my main machine but that thing caused me DAYS of lost time over several years. From proprietary non-standard EFI/BIOS issues - refused to boot linux until I did something accidentally to make it work, then couple years later screwed up so another day lost. Turns out the useless UEFI coders hard-coded the window loader path into UEFI even though you're meant to be able to set a pointer to another one! I also had issues with the 5Ghz wifi on it (half the time seemed dead/non-existent), and it took 16 screws just to remove the back cover. I spilled coffee in it while away housesitting and the keyboard went all wonky, but back home I always used an external keyboard so I kept using it. Some months later there was a loud pop and the bluetooth was no more - I must accept that was probably motherboard corrosion from the coffee. After another year it finally gave out its last gasp, rolled over onto its side and crashed the O/S. She wouldn't boot no more. I whipped out the SSD and the 16GB RAM and within minutes the Elitebook was up and running with my same old familiar desktop. Zero UEFI/BIOS issues. Zero driver issues. "It just works". And now I understand why a company would pay $2000 for one of these when a similar spec (on paper) consumer model can usually be had for less than half that price. It's the maturity of the BIOS and the hardware chosen. I'm a convert. I've bought my last consumer grade machine. It gets clogged up and overheats the same as all laptops (maybe I should vacuum my house more) but as you showed the back comes off in seconds and the fan lifts out with 2 small screws. When my sister asked me to help her choose a new All-In-One machine I was really disappointed at the specs for the prices being asked. So I found her an equally robust used Elitebook model AiO. She paid a quarter of what she was going to spend and ended up with better specs and better build quality. Only downside was lack of warranty (but you can buy two of them) and it's heavy. Once again it's all quick easy access and everything just works! No drama with resetting BIos/UEFI stuff and performing a fresh O/S install.
yeah, you get what you pay for. I typically suggest Lenovo or Dell but HP is also good. I've just had issues with the power supply ports. I'll be making a HP AIO video soon on the Elite 8300 running Windows 11

I buy these one for 50eur, upgrade on 16gb ram, add 500gb ssd, add large dock with integrated 1tb hdd for backup and at the end all for under 150eur. If something gone defect you can reach ALL inside easily and exchange. Windows 10 or Linux is running fine. 1A For gaming some 8470p models have a dedicated amd graphics. But these are very seldom on ebay or other second hand platforms. But the version with the intel graphics also run games like CS or other Games from this time. =)

That being said: DisplayPort-ports DO have their advantages. They withstand_and/or_support resolutions that HDMI [of the same level-on-the-hierarchy/step> *doesn’t* support, and HDMI is proprietary, whereas DisplayPort is open-source.

i bought this laptop in October of 2021, i did drop it a few times, but not enough time break it physically. in February 2024, i downloaded fortnite on it to play with a friend, and it took forever to download, and once it did, it crashed. it would glitch out during matches, it would be black for a few days before turning on again, and it eventually didnt turn back on. so, if you want to buy a laptop to download games, dont get this one!!! other than that its an okay laptop
it should be able to run fortnite on low settings
Man I have this machine for almost 4 years, I have a core i7 16GB 500GB the best thing bout this machine is the keyboard I couldn't move to any other laptop because I get used to this comfortable keyboard
I just pickup a 8570 and am about to make a video on it
I still having this laptop. I have two 8470p This laptop is very good. And mine both laptops are brand new. Not even a single scratch or dent
did you upgrade your ram or processor?
What operating system do you use?
I am watching this video on this exact laptop and it, has served my family well for 6-7 years. This laptop is 10 years old as of 2022.
Is it still running fine?
And how about This elitebook vs Pavilion dm4 i5 2nd, which one would be better.?
watching this from my "elitebook 8470p" core i5 500gb 4gb ram

Led is a useful thing for me. Actually, It works in dark time.
Yes this is my gaming computer (customized) it has a i9 proccesor , 4TB HDD, 2TB SSD, GTX , 64 GB RAM . The best computer ever
I had no idea that you could swap the processor out that easily. how did you get that much ram in it?
@@MikeDancy easly just put a 64gb ram in it , for me the laptop was £175 but i upgraded it and it's about £620 the things i got was second hand but who cares ? It runs way better and its cheap if i would get everything new it will be around £1000 maybe..
May I asked how you added the gpu and how you used a 64 ram because I though it’s locked on 16 only
Oh and what I9 processor model thank you
I think my mom has this exact laptop? Yeah basically the same thing except for the power buttons. I sometimes use it for playing Roblox when she isn’t using it for work, and the performance is actually awesome for a laptop! I love it, and I kinda recommend it for people who want a budget (kinda) laptop!
My 8470p laptop has i7 and the resolution is 1600x900.
Hola...I have had the same one since 2012 and everything was perfect until months ago when the c key and the comma were activated by themselves, I would like to know if this has happened to anyone and if they found the solution before replacing the keyboard. Another thing is that I can't get the Bluetooth driver for win 10.
You can play everything on direct 9 ...i love it .

A great laptop
The Alt Gr button is on every belgian and I think even european keyboard cause over here there are buttons that serve 3 signs.
So you use the button, the button+shift and button+altgr for the third sign
Im an university student , i wanna kn whenever this laptop was good for programming (language c ,c++ , java ...) .

Sorry I'm French I use Google translation
i just purchased one form offer up , with a i5 vpro 2530m for 40 $ two minor dents and much other wear and tear. Cant beat the price located in houston tx
I just bought the 8570 with the i7 quad core. $150 CDN it’s next to be reviewed
Cool I will be sure to check it out .great content , yall guys have a new sub.
Actually this is my laptop and I have 3! 16 Gb ram, SSD and a docking station. It ii a great laptop!
I just bought another one, a 8570 i7 quad core. Looking forward to putting Fedora and Ubuntu on it
@@MikeDancy Yeah, my third one was bought for the same reason!
Is the trackpad clickable kinda like the Mac's or do you have to press a button to click
It’s not clickable from what I remember. You need to use the buttons.
@@MikeDancy I use 8560P you dont have too click on the buttons
@@MikeDancy you can actually just tap on the track pad
As a simple Office Box this model ist cheap, functional and has all you need in you daily office work. 1A
For gaming some 8470p models have a dedicated amd graphics. But these are very seldom on ebay or other second hand platforms.
But the version with the intel graphics also run games like CS or other Games from this time. =)
I just bought (received actually) one for £50!
Ho lo stesso pc, ma ho messo un ssd, 16Gb di ram e processore intel i7-3470qm. Più di questo non era possibile potenziarlo e ne sono soddisfatto!!
In 2018 I got 3 of these babies for free, great to have for throwing around in the car etc, I really like the ruggedness. Only thing I have to complain about is the low resolution, no HDMI port, and the speakers are horrible...
I keep a 8460 i7 as my backup machine since it’s so bulletproof
Use a displayport to hdmi adapter, they only cost $10, works great. Got mine setup with a 32 inch Scepter 1080p TV as a 2nd monitor. TV was only $130 brand new from Walmart.
Hp 3210..HD intel 4000!! To gaming graphic? Should i upgrade that laptop??
I'm a college student with a low budget and just ordered one with 8g and 500 gb hard drive.
Solid. I have one that I upgraded with an SSD and I say, if you can afford it, get an SSD.
@@LotsChrono yeah that's what I got.I am so excited to start using it
@@christophercortes9916 Great, then I wish you the best with it.
@@LotsChrono thank you
What are your thought about it? Do you like it? Would you also recommend it ? Im thinking of buying one for myself.
Bro I have dropped mine over 20 times sometimes a few feet off the ground & it always works fine
Plays older games like Diablo2 WoW tbc classic pretty good
How can i run graphic program on it??
depends on the program I guess
@@MikeDancy professinal, like premier, literoom, after effect....
@@MikeDancy i have it, but its have 4000 intel graphic, for 3d work cant respond
@@MikeDancy should I get this or a Lenovo thinkpad t430 I am leaning towards the hp because in Australia they are cheaper and can be found with crappy radeon graphics which are better than integrated graphics
I'm thinking about buying this kind of laptop but the one i found doesn't have standard "Intel HD Graphics 4000 " graphics card but an "AMD Radeon HD 7570M".
I don't need this laptop for something demanding, but i will love if it will play a game like "League of Legends".
I've never tried league of legends on it but I might try it on a similar machine. It's not a graphic intensive game so it should do okay.
League can run on a potato so integrated graphics should be good enough... however the radeon graphics are perfect for a game like that.
Yeah playing any type of fps though doesn't work too well on it unfortunately, but league should be fine
I don’t think it will work
@@sg10hd77 maybe your right
as a person who uses hp elitebook 8470p , I can confirm that the laptop is indistrictuable
i have the same one and i run minecraft at 50fps maybe your mc settings are maxed out
I think buying a dell latitude e7440 with an i7 is a better option and will serve you much better while bding capable of light gaming
I guess it depends on the games. You’ll need a SSD for sure though.
The hard drive models are to slow and obsolete by today's standards. I doubt you'd be doing much heavy gaming how ever something lighter like Fortnite or Minecraft will run fine.
Hey I like memes oof not really, depends on the other specs. I run brand new games off of a hard drive.
For 385 aud (which is 264 usd) I found a refurbished dell latitude e7440 with an i7 4600U, 256gb SSD, 16gbs of ram and a 1080p ips display all of which is in being grade condition.
@@kiegancarstens3013 also I say that because I think only having a hard drive is garbage maybe as a secondary drive in your optical drive assuming you have one but you need some kind of SSD
Alt Gr = "Alternative Graphics", it lets you type different characters, e.g. æßðđ (by holding Alt Gr and typing asdf)
Does this laptop have a disk tray to play old pc games, I'm thinking of purchasing one
it does have an optical drive.
please can it screen record smoothly? with obs studio?
Screen recording it’s fine. But not if you’re recording a game with OBS. Maybe minesweeper
Thanks 🙏
Guys elitebook 8460 p stay with me 8 years i only upgrade RAM and change thermal paste twice
it is support to 16gb ram???
Hey bro what name of that video background sound ,Can you tell me please? Or link or name??????
I had to do some digging. it was from Epidemic Sound - Trapped in 8Bit by Mai Ligne
Mike Dancy thx bro. I found it 😍
Where is the mic? I hope it has one.
Yes it does have a microphone
The nice part about CPU is upgrade, it is socketed and can handle i7-3540m (2x3,0 Ghz + HT). Not sure about quadcores i7-3xxxQM.
Quad cores also work, just follow the service manual specs for whats compatible. I'm grabbing a 3610QM for mine.
I have error code 601 Internanl battery needs to be replaced. Do you now where is located internal battery?
its the main battery, flip over the laptop you will find it. just change that
i m using this now hp 8470p elitebook i want to upgrade ram
I'm playing COD MW3 on this but mine's an i7
I7 is much faster so it can run mid games
@@Dave_mitchz the main limit here is the hd4000 which is dogshit for most games. Having an i3 vs an i9 if you have a gtx 950 won't make a difference

So you think it will run Serato Lite well?
I have elitebook 8560 with corei5/8gb. Has horrible overheating issue. Can't edit FHD vids. Cause it crawls while editing. Rendering is a pain in the ass. It's So bad I don't consider buying an Hp elitebook again. How would you convince me of getting this? Someone in my area is selling similar model in this review. Thanks in advance
I wouldn't suggest any laptop for video editing. That's for either Mac's or desktops with graphic cards. These are business grade laptops meant for spreadsheets.
@@MikeDancyi understand that. But compared to other laptops with the same specs... Like i can edit same video files on my brother's thinkpad t240 with minimal lags.
It’s supposed to be a budget laptop because it’s 8 years old. I’m running 8470p but upgraded cpu ram and ssd for cheap and it runs like a monster cheaper than a budget pc for everyday use
I need helpd, I have this laptop but dont have driver for wireless.
Which OS? You may have to plug it in via a Ethernet cable and do a hardware search in the device manager.
Very easy google search this laptop driver n download then install
Goto hp.com.drivers download. Search this. On google
i used driver booster program its free and it will give you all the drivers and software to look up and download for your video card and get throttlestop it a safe overclocking program that allows you to get turbo all day long and any game is yours to play
Anthony Norton me also use driver booster . its really good software

Hi Mike, hope all is well. I believe my ACER is finally ready to retire. I always figured I'd check with you before going to a retailer for a replacement. A used computer is fine. No gaming involved. Also plan to end my Dropbox subscription and maybe buy an external HD. Any thoughts you have on it would be welcome. Or maybe just go with google drive, not sure.

No. These have Displayport.
@@Drottninggatan2017 I have-to-do research to-see if this particular-model from Hewlett-Packard has a HDMI-port in it, because if memory serves-me, laptops of this particular caliber (the “Elitebooks”; Hewlett-Packard’s equivalent of-back-then to the IBM-Thinkpads) had HDMI ports and/or “DisplayPort” ports.
That being said: DisplayPort-ports DO have their advantages. They withstand_and/or_support resolutions that HDMI [of the same level-on-the-hierarchy/step> *doesn’t* support, and HDMI is proprietary, whereas DisplayPort is open-source.
