Hey TMan978 there should be racheting in the lower knee joint if it's absent most likely the stopper housing is warped.
Do you remember when you were a kid, and brought home a really good report-card full of A's. At the time you were feeling pretty good about yourself. Then you show it to your mother, and she says "From now on, I expect every report-card you bring me to be as good as this one." Only then did you realize you just set a really high bar for yourself.

Awesome figure, definitely the best MP Prime overall..even though I think 3rd party cleans up a little better. I do lament the death of mp10s straightforward transformation steps but Takara and the popular options like Fanstoys left simplicity a long time ago.This guy comes off as a transform it once and forget it style MP.
that is my biggest issue with the current crop is I like to take them out of the cabinet and transform my bots, some of these new ones are just set and forget and I can't make myself spend what they want for something I'm not going to do the one thing that seperates these from other toys.
Here's hoping some other company fixes those knees and that backpack.
The jetpack does fit on MP-12. I just tried. Same color near as I can tell too on mp-12+

There's an official photo of the repair done base being used as a display stand. It looks like they removed the drone and plugged the arm into the jetpack somehow.
I've discovered that the drone pulls off and Optimus can sit where the drone was but it's unfortunately doesn't lock so he'll just fall off so that's probably why it's not in the instructions
If history repeats itself,I think I will wait for the oversized KO MPP44 (If they call it like that,or whatever)

A nightmare to transform the first time, but easy once you know what you are doing. I kinda regretted getting this figure as opposed to the cheaper MP-10 version, but now I am glad I got this one instead. Has great accessories and the robot mode is perfect.

Nice review. You're a pro at transforming him. I Received mine Tuesday morning from amazonjp and haven't even taken it out of the box yet lol. The Robot mode non of the 3rd parties can top. However the truck mode I think the TE version looks cleaner. I hope infinite transformation releases a 3rd party mp44 if the quality is as good as their mp36 I definitely will get that too for a display piece and keep my takara one mint.

They have cartoon accurate robot and alt modes but, I wonder what cartoon accurate transformation sequences would look like. Certainly nothing like this! ;)
My issue wasn’t just with sprue marks, my figure has dozens of paint defects and marred plastic. Anyone can check my Twitter, @theoriginalzero, to see. The sprue marks are still unacceptable on a $450 toy (even if we only paid $327).
I get people are high on this figure and it’s objectively a good figure, but it shouldn’t cost what it does by any means and there’s a lot of bad engineering and shortcuts that it SHOULD NOT have at this price point.
I’ll go into it more on Thursday’s podcast, but yeah I’m still not happy with my experience and what this means for the Mp line moving forward.
I've been seeing paint defects of varying degrees in almost every review (mainly the grey chest piece), which is unacceptable on a figure of this price. This is the first time I've seen the sprue marks though. Did they learn nothing from MP-36? Wow, just checked your Twitter. That's really bad! I (selfishly) hope you've just been really unlucky, as if that's a widespread problem it will not do the official MP line any favours...

TMan978 to be honest it is so nice to see all the accessories and gimmicks covered in one review ass opposed to having to watch several to get an idea, I don’t think anyone is going to mind missing a bit of the transformation. Oh and something I missed in my original comment, thank you for giving us such a good look :D
TMan978 by the way, the drone battle station piece does come off, there is a panel that lifts down on the back of it. You can then remove it and put that piece on Roller and use the rest as a stand for Optimus
Great review as always man. I was sitting on the fence about buying this because I have mp 10. Now that I see how much more advanced he is I'm leaning toward buying him. I may wait for a silver legs version though. His rifle certainly is better than mp 10s.

Finally!!! Lol! Great review! I am not savvy enough to use Amazon JP, and I paid the $450. But, where I got him from allows me to pay over time. So I just paid some here and there instead of getting hit all at once.
Oh, and I forgot to ask. Any paint chips or areas of concern regarding the paint?
The yellow paint on his crotch pretty much everywhere else. Lol. don't ever let it fall, don't let other figures lay on top of it. I haven't had good luck with premium painted action figures
There's typically a translation option and basically you just create an account if you don't comprehend the prices, ask Google to translate whatever the amount is from yen to u.s. dollar. Typically I just tell my phone, OK Google to make it activate and then I'll say something like 11450 yen and it will automatically give me the US dollar amount

I understand that everyone has their own idea of what looks good and that it is purely subjective. I’m ok with that because everyone has a right to their opinion. Love what you love, and collect what you want... no judgment here!
What I don’t agree with is the comments of “the backpack looked like that in the cartoon” (not your comment, heard this from other reviewers). The basic shape, yes, the size, Never... and yes, the blue part that is on this figure’s posterior is there in the cartoon, but it never stuck out that much...anyway, I digress... the paint is beautiful and the articulation is fantastic and there are a ton of accessories.
I admit that I am underwhelmed and a little disappointed that for a figure that is as engineered as much as this one is, that it has the issues I don’t care for going on in the back (see? My subjective subjective opinion!😄)

Truth really be told, there were several episodes where he did have a big backpack. G1 cartoon was all over the place. All of their appearances were all over the place. I'm pretty sure there was an episode where he had a stripe in truck mode.
Whoever designed this guy pick their favorite episode. I think they should have put the sound box inside of his drone. Then again if you really look at his back the way they designed him, even if the sound box wasn't there is backwards still protrude very far

Cool Figure But The Transformation Looks Like A Pain In The @$$
One thing I try to put out there every so often while doing these complex transformations is the fact that they all look way more difficult then they actually are because I have my arms stretched in front of a camera.
That's the thing with MP figures that look cartoon accurate, they require complexity to make it look right, even if it results in tedious work.
It really is I really recommend using a video to help

I definitely like the MP-10 better in alt mode. I'm also enjoy the clear plastic on MP-10's crotch, and still like the more mature extras on the MP-10, such as windshield wipers. I did manage to get it for $330US from Anime Export, but had to pay up front on the pre-order. Thanks for the excellent video once again TMan.
As far as the wipers, do you mean in robot mode?
@@TMan978 , honestly both, but I'm not as on board with the super toon accurate direction the designs have been going. The toon didn't have a terribly high budget so details were lacking. I still prefer added details of realism in both modes, but especially the alt mode. I have the new Bumblebee on order but I really don't know if I will keep it, a bit part due to the vehicle looking cartoon-ish. I am pretty confident I will keep the MP-44 because overall it is better, but I will be keeping my MP-10, perhaps leaving it in alt mode. Really enjoyed the review. yours and Deluxe's are my favorite out there right now.
This figure is nice but I'm looking forward to the Flame Toys Optimus Prime way more. For the money to me that will be the Prime of Primes. Dope review as usual TMan.

I'm inside hospital for a long time now, where they dont allow phones inside herer so even know i recieved all my Newage figures (all the G1 cartoon accurate characters from NA Jazz to NA Megatron), MP-44, WeiJiang MPM-4 Commander, FT-31A ROADKING, FT-031C SPOILER, & soon to be FT-31B MAGNUM, N2M all the mainline figures from amazon from all 3 lines, I STILL havent been able to play with or open them. GREAT REVIEW the only review i saw so far was the very 1st one the one you mentioned where he couldnt get the matrix to fit. ADDITIONALLY, im moving awway from the hardcore drugs drugdealers that took over the neighborhood and my apartment building to the point i cant get 1 ioda of sleep, rest, quiet, & definitely havent had any space to get my reviews done last late JULY whrn i was last there. fucking god damn herion & meth den dealers and all their traffic is the ABSOLUTE PITS! i went from a nice apartment & nice neighborhood in a shitty town, to them paying off my landlords and all the ppl aROUND so there is no fighting it so im mobving to a place i can do my toy thing again like how I did at my old condo. anyways i just got moved into a new unit in the hospital today with a computer/internet just no social media. Sooooo the front of the truck compresses into the backpack and the figure is super articulate? Perfect counterpart to MP36: panel lines all over and a troubled backpack. Plus it's super-articulated.
I didn't think about it but it transforms a lot like Transformers Siege Optimus where the front of the truck goes into the back

**IF** this gets KO'd to death like MP36 did, I can imagine simpler soundcards being made so that you have a choice: Japanese only, English only, and the standard issue hold the button to go from one to the other. (That said, KuBianBao needs to do a MP44V...)
As a whole, this still seems pretty cool. That Starscream joint was from the two-part episode "Megatron's Master Plan". And for the jetpack, maybe the blast effects from Siege Jetfire would be better...

@@TMan978 Well, I was about to rant about the very expensive price. Then my _two_ Dollfie Dreams gave me a little reminder.
The features are amazing and the articulation points are nuts. But still... Did they really had to put a voicebox in, thus creating that ginormous backpack? This is honestly the only nagging point. That and this crazy transformation.
I'm not ruling this figure out. But right now, even if I'd want him, my credit card would object.

Hey, quick question.. I know you dont have a video of the mp36+ but I know u know about transformers. What's your opinion about the chrome holding up over years without fading or wearing out? I dont plan on transforming mine.
Every figure I've ever had that has chrome on it, it wears. now I don't clean and dust my figures so maybe if you kept it in a completely airtight dust-free environment, you might get lucky

I recently purchased a Takara Tomy Transformers C-01 Missing Link Optimus Prime with Trailer to replace a G1 reissue Optimus Prime that I lost, and I thought that I was finished with Optimus Prime, but I may have to get this one after I get a Hot Toys BLADE figure.

I can't confirm or deny it myself but I seriously doubt it. The only things that look new is the head, the shoulder cannons and the smoke effects

i think im perfectly fine with my MP10, I don't like the trend of MP being too overly engineered than what they should be. Plus that price is a spicy meataballa and has some few issues
You can throw the folded rifle onto the truck bed via a sliding tab that fits on the back of the crotch in robot mode
It's attached as soon as I show him at the beginning. The footage I filmed actually showing it off didn't really get recorded but I thought I did. Smh I also thought I recorded footage of me showing off the range of motion the trailer has while hitched but I apparently didn't have the record button push pressed...😅

Hey, you're almost my namesake! If you're talking about Kapow, yeah they are showing as sold out. However, I believe TFS-E will be getting more, just not at the pre-order price. You can put a deposit down for the next batch (it's £260 for the deposit, not sure about the final price).
i just got mine, and I'm curious on your thoughts on something. where the thighs attach to the waste, it feels like they have some give before the ratchet kicks in. this can alter how his stance looks when held versus standing on a surface. do you have that, and should i be concerned by it? it doesn't make him look bad or pose funny, i just notice everything else feels TIGHT. otherwise i'm really loving it. and your video helped me transform him :D
It's universal. The ratchets are weird in the hips when you lift him off of a flat surface there is a little bit of a give.

The drone can slide up and the clear piece takes its place
I just discovered that the drone can come off but you don't need the clear piece. You can sit him right where the drone was sitting but unfortunately the latch doesn't stay into place so that's probably why it's not in the instructions

I really hope a good KO of this figure will be made because I can't afford this figure.
Pro tip: I was saving throughout the year since it was announced.
The Te-01 is a solid figure and extremely accurate to Anime/Cartoon.
Love the transformation and the toon aesthetic but that price is absolutely ridiculous. Hasbro/Takara should release this sans trailer and pointless human figures. Honestly I'd be happy to get Prime with just his blaster, blaster effect, and energon axe- don't really need much more than that and I'd consider $150 to be a fair price.

Hmmm, the lower knee ratchets on your copy seem to be broken or they don't work as they should.
Multiple people have told me.
