I had all four as well. And I agree, MP-44 is the best of these. MS-01 on 2nd cause he's so posable, easy to transform and affordable. 3rd is TE-01 for the cleanest look, but he also feels plain to me. MP-10 to me is kinda out of the competition cause he simply hasn't aged too well, still a legendary and good mold.

@TMan978, I think the reason you're still getting comments a year later, is because of the re-release of TE-01 and the recent KO of MP-44. Those two releases are putting these figures in more collectors' hands, or at least making them a consideration.
I own MP-01, MP-10V (which is the undersized MP-10), MS-01, MS-01X, and TE-01 (2nd batch). I have a genuine MP-10, MP-44 KO, and the newest batch of TE-01 all in various stages of shipping, so I'll soon have all the MP primes for comparison.
But here's my opinion based on the figures I own, and the multiple video reviews I've seen, including your own. The best overall figure in my opinion is TE-01. And honestly I don't even think its that close of a competition.
MP-01 and MP-10 are both great figures. MP-01 is the OG Masterpiece Prime, and I remember being absolutely blown away when I saw it on the shelf. Still one of my favorite XMas gifts. But it's severely dated 15 years later. MP-10 is just a different style figure when HasTak was taking the Masterpiece line a different direction. Great figure, but now we're moving toward more toon-like figures. Which as a 40yo guy who grew up with the G1 cartoon and movie, that's more my style.
So the competition to me is between MS-01, TE-01, and MP-44.
Out of those three, I just feel like TE-01strikes the best balance and is the most toon accurate.
MS-01 is a great figure. I love the bulky look, the transformation is intuitive, interesting, and most of all, fun. It produces a great looking bot and truck. The finish is very meh, but thats what makes it a great TOY. The matte paint and points of articulation feels like something you can play with and not damage. And with MS-01X, the metallic finish looks more premium without being fragile paint.
BUT, the bulky build makes it less toon accurate, and the truck bed looks like it was phoned in. As Jobby says, it's a 3D figure, so all angles should be taken into consideration.
MP-44 is obviously very toon accurate...from the front. The back of the bot and the truck both break the illusion. I understand WHY the backpack exists, and WHY the truck bed Looks like a pile of broken model kits smashed together. I think HasTak severely over-engineered the figure to be slavish in toon accuracy, to the point that they lost a lot of accuracy in the process. And honestly, both modes are a panel lined mess. And with the complaints of fragile knees, wobbly hips and loose shoulders, a lot of people in the forums are too afraid to play with it or transform it. I think its a great figure to display in bot mode, in a dynamic pose, from the front only, and never played with. And the transformation looks like a nightmare. I'm not sure I'll even attempt it.
But TE-01, Especially the updated version, strikes the perfect balance. Or near perfect. You've seen my pics and others in the forums, TMan. TE-01 is not limited in articulation at all. I have had mine in some very dynamic poses that actually look more natural than the MS-01, which everyone says has greater articulation. It's a SOLID figure that I'm completely comfortable with posing, playing with, and transforming. It looks great from all angles in truck and bot mode. It's a clean figure, and the only visible kibble is the bumper butt. MP-44 nails the butt plate, sure, but you can't display it anyway with that huge growth above it. LOL. But, TE-01 looks great posed, and feels great as a toy.
The G1 toon was plagued with animation errors and just low quality drawing, but rhe 86 movie I really feel was the highest quality example of the character models. Not perfect by any means, but the best. So that's what I base my ideas on of toon accuracy. And TE-01 nails it. OP was meant to be blocky and slender. TE-01 has the perfect backpack. It looks straight out of the movie. And the matrix chamber. That was the one part of your review that I was disappointed in. You totally glossed over just how dead on accurate TE-01 matrix chamber is. You mentioned it, but come on. They nailed it. It was just icing on the cake of an already incredibly accurate figure.
Its has a very clean, convincing truck bed, with the least kibble in either mode out of all the MP Primes. And I think its a perfect example of how HasTak over-engineered MP-44 and wound up missing the mark. Its just so clean, so elegant, more accurate, and more solid. The transformation is a little complicated. Not nearly as intuitive and fun as MS-01, but not as complicated and scary as MP-44. Again, a nice balance.
And when you factor in price, you just can't beat TE-01. Its actually the cheapest of thr group. MS-01 is no longer available and sells for $160-$250 on the secondary market. MP-44 is $360-$450. TE-01 is available right now for $103.
I'm not saying MP-44 isn't worth $400. Cause it likely is. But is it the best VALUE? Well, that is up to the buyer. For me, no. For you, maybe. All I know is I look at TE-01, and I see how HasTak missed the mark with price and over-engineering.
Overall, you did a great review and comparison. I don't fault anyone who disagrees with my opinion. We're all looking for different things in our ultimate figure. For me, TE-01 checks all my boxes.

Already having MP-01 and MP-10, I find no needs for yet another trailer. Plus MP-44 price is way too high for me. So TE01 OP Leader will do the job perfectly for cartoon accuracy. Plus, being compatible with MP-10's trailer sealed the deal. Also, 156 Canadian dollars (115$US) with free shipping from China. Not too shabby.

I feel as though you could have titled this video 'The Best Optimus Prime is MP-44 in spite of its glaring QC Issues' and been done with it. Also, that's the V1 TE, which doesn't have as many detents on the ratchets as the V2 (and the arms are ratcheted, albeit soft ones). The TE's backpack is closer to the size of the one on the animation model than any of the others (quite where the idea that it is huge came from I'll never know) and it's perfectly stable in dynamic poses. The can be no arguing that MP-44 has more articulation and accessories, but I'd hardly call TE limited. Also, how much use is the average collector going to make of those things? Is it worth three times the price? I don't think so, and I bought it!
The paint chipping on yours is ridiculous, as is the fact that the knees seem to be failing across the board. Meanwhile TE is still going strong nine months later and MP-10 many years later. If this is the future of official figures, well it's a sorry state of affairs.

I've had MP-44 since it was released, have owned the MS one for about a year now, and got TE-01 Op about a week ago for my birthday. Looking back now, considering how many problems MP-44 had and how much it cost, I kinda regret buying it, especially for that much money. MP-44 left my display the moment I got Magic Square Light of Freedom, which in my opinion is already ahead of the official MP-44 in the looks and QC department, but now that one's itself been replaced by TE-01. I just love the highly cartoon accurate and clean look (way cleaner than MP-44 especially), and no QC issues whatsoever. It's my favorite out of the bunch. Although I'd advise anyone to pick up either MS or TE over MP-44. They're both very good options, and MP-44 just isn't all it's cracked up to be.

I think if I had to rank, OP Leader, MP44 close behind, and Magic Square at last place but still pretty damn good. I can't really rank MP10 since it's so radically different than the others and it's one of the best transformers in its own right, just not one of the most show accurate.

I like the MP-10 Cab look. It has a G1 look but also a realistic look. The transformation is simple and fun, and even though there were compromises to the weapon to get it to fit in his back, I still really like the weapon storage. Also the micro-figure doesn't explode every time you mess with it. The only thing that bothers me on that figure is that his ab grill is a bit too long and weird looking. Other than that, I still love MP-10. Hopefully I can get him some day. Great video as always!

    I like MP-10 the most.
    1. It’s accurate, but adds its own designs that respect the cartoon and make it more detailed in a way, the gray stripes on his forearms are a good example.
    2. His quality is impressive. Yeah MP-44 looks more cartoon accurate and glossy, but that paint chipping is a problem, and MP-10 has enough quality to rival 44 in my opinion.
    3. He has just enough accessories that DONT artificially jack up the price.
    4. Speaking of the price. For his mold, accessories, quality, and all around whole thing is fairly a decent price. Something MP-44 has the short end of the stick on.
    5. I think he has the most details in terms of the chest, windows, matrix, and legs etc.
    Just overall a great figure.

I got lucky with my mp-44 because I'm seeing a lot of warped/bent antennas on the two regular face sculpts with the season 1 head usually being the most warped. I really like the te but wish they went for full on paint/better more accurate color, would've gladly paid a few dollars more for it. Instead of buying expensive third party stickers for the Windows, I just peel the labels off of Fiji water bottles and cut them to size and they're the perfect animation blue. Have it on te, mp10, and my 2 idw primes(with generation toy making the superior version when it comes to idw primes,it even looks good next to takara g1 figures, particularly from mp36 onward) I understand people being upset about takaras price hikes but don't understand the hate on the figures themselves. I guess if you feel like you've been priced out of a line you collect it's hard to see past it but 44 is the best g1 prime to date and hating on its design makes people just seem salty to me. Who knows maybe they just truly prefer other products aesthetics but I highly doubt it's the case deep down. It does leave fans toys with a opportunity to make a power move by releasing something of their quality and current design aesthetic at a lower price point following up their upcoming soundwave, megatron, etc and show that they're more than just some third party company.

    • @The_michael_xavier
      @The_michael_xavier 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

According to emgo’s review, I think your supposed to articulate the top of the knee first and there’s actually a small piece that tabs in and then you are free to move the lower knee joint without breaking it. If that is actually true, then it’s less of a QC issue, and more of an over engineering issue. Seems maybe they got a bit more complicated than they should have. The paint chipping I agree is a headache that shouldn’t be there

I may have to start saving up for MP44 after watching your videos... Especially depending on the knee fix. It would be a roll of the dice to see if he gets fixed and easier to find over the next several months (hey, Christmas is coming and the kids get priority), or just harder to get and pricier. But hey, if I get the money and he's not around, I could get another cool figure instead. Or a major household appliance, but we'll see what happens when I get there.

I like the ms more than the other, but TE is more show accurate

  • @seoul08
    @seoul08 4 ปีที่แล้ว

When going for cartoon accuracy, this is obviously te01 vs mp44. Mp44 is extremely articulated, but I mostly have my Optimus prime figures in vanilla hero poses, so the extra articulation would just be an added bonus for me.
With all except the first batch of releases, (Later releases of te01 have better ratchets with more teeth, and some other articulation based things were adjusted that I can’t remember. The new head was also included in these releases. That’s the version I was able to get.) the te is not super limited, you can get pretty much most of the basic “prime specific” poses you’d need, other than the more advanced poses that I’ve noticed your channel is more geared towards. (It is pretty limited when compared to the mp44 but most other prime figures aren’t as articulated as mp44) The thigh swivel is made up for at the knee swivel. No, it’s not as good as a thigh swivel but it doesn’t really bother me, having the swivel at the knee is better than not having any swivel at all.
I don’t have the problem with te01s gun fitting in the hand, mine fits extremely well. Mp44s look to me is always thrown off when I look at the abundant amount of panel lines and cuts from transformation. For me, accuracy is one of the top categories, and one thing I’ve noticed with mp44 is the panel lines. Of course, all the figures have panel lines, but they’re very apparent on mp44. The legs have a lot of lines and cuts, and some of the articulation causes the figure to look weird. This is pretty minor, but I wanted to point it out because sometimes they throw off how the figure looks to me.
The voice feature is also incredibly cool, but I just hate the backpack it gives the figure. Prime in the show does have a slight “backpack” protrusion, but the backpack on mp44 is like, three times the size of that. I’d much rather not have the voice feature if it means a better backpack and overall look for the figure. Maybe they could’ve done something similar to mp36 Megatron, where the voice feature was in the weapon? (That brings up another thing, it seems like takara with the newer mps are neglecting the backs of the figures. Masteprice bumblebee 2.0 *cough cough* ) I feel that te looks more show accurate physically, having much less panel lines and gaps, but show accuracy is kind of weird since the g1 models for basically every character changed so often and were drawn differently almost every episode.
The glossy paint on mp44 looks incredible. It’s a shame they didn’t use stronger paint because almost every video I’ve seen of the guy has paint chips. The panel lines and backpack kinda kill it for me, but not too much, Ultimately, without price as a factor, I’d probably get mp44. Maybe a second release without the trailer and extra stuff, (regardless of price still) since chances are 90% of the extras will end up in the box in storage. The thing with the price is not that I cannot afford it, it is that I cannot justify spending almost 200 extra dollars for a box and some mini figures, since we know the prime alone with the gun and axe is around $250, and that extra 200 bucks could go towards things I need or even other figures.
But still, like I said, I’d probably go with mp44 because of the articulation and how the glossy paint pops. A “dream scenario” for me, if magically possible, would be the te01 body with the waist and thigh articulation and glossy paint of mp44. Gun, axe, the basics. I can perfectly well see why you would choose mp44. It makes sense, you like making cool extravagant poses that the others can’t do, or can’t do well. (Especially mp10, which hasn’t aged the best, but is still a respectable mold.) I think this is a case where there really isn’t a clear unanimous winner, since people want different things. Some prefer articulation over accuracy, or some prefer old g1 toy looks over cartoon looks, some may not even like the cartoon look. I have the te01 and Im going to get the flame toys G1 prime model kit, which is way more articulated than even mp44 but non-transforming. So really it depends on what you want in your prime figure(s).
