I looked out there and saw those hanging bushes over the water and knew that was the spot. Now, I almost blew it by misjudging the current on that first cast but thankfully that fish gave me the mulligan!
It’s always GREAT when I see your videos fishing on the Owens River. In the background where you end this video, you see the Wheeler Crest in the distance. I used to own property at the base of the Wheeler Crest. It was on Lower Rock Creek Road, which used to be the old 395. Perhaps you have gone up or down this two lane road in your travels. In comes out at Tom’s Place traveling north. Anyway, another awesome video Amani. Tight lines!!
Right on. I love spending time out there fishing. This brown came quick and easy once I was sure I wasn't going to fall off the pipe I was standing on. If you fall in there, you just need to let the water blow you straight out and it's only about a foot deep around that edge. I just didn't want to deal with anything like that! That's a heck of a place to have owned property. You could conduct a fishing attack in every direction from there!
Right on. There are so many quality targets to fish around here if you can get 3 or 4 days in this zone you can fish a lot of different stuff. I got a lot on my playlists!
We all have tough days. A lot of the time I'm one strike and one fish away from getting skunked. The fish in that campground must see crazy fishing pressure when it's warmer. I found the dude way under the bush that people seemed to forget about!
I might do the Winter run this year. Not sure yet. Sleeping in my car when it's 25 degrees out makes me reluctant but that will wear off in a few weeks. I can do an overnight in the teens.
@@wildernesswithamani1027 late January the flows are usually below 200 cfs and wadable in some sections. Guides usually drop shot nymph or czech nymph w/tiny bead head flies through that section.
I almost blew it when I misjudged the current on the first cast. The fish must have been looking the other way because a lot of times they see that jig swim by and if they don't go for it a second cast yields the same result even if you hit your initial target. In other words, I'm lucky I didn't spoil the spot with that first reckless cast!
Right on. I sized up that situation and figured under that bush was the spot to hit. I am just lucky I didn't blow my chance with that first cast where I misjudged the current and ran my jig too far away from it. Sometimes you do that and you come up with nothing when you finally get it right!
That thing was firing but it gets really shallow at the outer end of the white water so it isn't as sketchy as it looks a as long as someone goes straight out or to the right if they fall in. If they don't play it right and let the current take them to the left side of the white water, all bets are off! I sized up the situation and figured out what I needed to do in the event I ended up in the water. It would have been cold but not too bad danger wise.
Once I got that one in the net I knew it was time to go. I made a few casts but didn't get anything. The water all around the far edge was only about a foot deep. It was only deep around the pipe and on the left side of the white water. Strange set up to fish.
I am not sure 100% but I think the special regs start at the bridge at the end of the campground. I was fishing /artificial/ single barbless/ catch and release anyway so as long as it was open, and it was, I was fine. I know past that bridge at the campground it's managed as a wild brown trout fishery. Ay least, that's what the sign in the campground says!
Gotta love another great episode of "Balance Beam Fishing" with Amani. Nice work my friend.
Right! There are never enough times when I can just walk up with no bushes on flat ground and catch a fish like this!
Beautiful brown trout especially with the balancing act on that pipe.
The pipe wasn't as sketchy as it looks! I wasn't looking to dance around the edges or anything but I was on firm footing!
Love those quick hits - beautiful brown right there - catch you next time🎣👍👊

Made my weekend to view this 300 miles away in s.f.valley. will get there sometime.

Respect! Been skunked there many times.

The fish adapted to all that manipulation, Bravo Fish ! What a beauty !
That fish was right where I would be if I was looking for safety and a constant flow of easy meals coming right past me.
Been there a few times in January when the flow is lower. Beautiful fish!

Also I just stay at a cheap motel in Bishop when I fish the area.
Nice cast to catch

Nice fish!
That was a quick roadside adrenaline rush!
This is why i watch

Pipe looks like a fish funnel

I think that’s special regs below the dam thru the campground, am I wrong?

I'll take the quick brown!
