Dang, right on Amani. I was up there yesterday at the “upper” lower owens near the pleasant valley damn and the upper owens by the Benton crossing bridge. The lower owens seemed like it was flowing too much so I went to Benton crossing. It began snowing and was so windy I left after wading for maybe an hour. Didn’t see any fish or any signs, I only saw about two blue winged olives on the water. So I figured the hatch was ending and called it
That gorge section between Crowley and pleasant valley used to have very little water. It all went into the penstock to produce power. LA had to run some water down the river when the penstock was down, fished moved up from Pleasant Valley, and they were forced to maintain a minimum flow.
I have fished there many times, My experience has been if you walk down the utility road about 1 mile, it opens up and the fishing has been great. Hahh, that was a FAT trout.
Nice video. I never thought to fish the river upstream of the power plant. It always seemed so narrow and overgrown. But if there’s fish like that big rainbow in there then I think I’ll give it a chance.
Im Daniel from LA! It was noce meeting you. I did notice that the rainbows were deeper this yr. I did not catch anything while there. My little brother caught a 5lb brown there on a red/gold 1/6oz thomas bouyant. Ive been wanting to catch some bows on a maribu jig and havent been unsuccessful with 1/32 oz. Ill move up to 1/8oz next season.
Quick scouting mission yielded a fat rainbow - nice job 🎣👊👍
Yes You've got 2 "old Bishop residents" watching and Loving your Videos! Fairwinds!
That first rainbow was a real prize catch!! The one near the dam looked like a "broom tailed" stocked fish!!

You can always count on Amani when everyone else has quit for the season.

Great fish. I have been wanting to get up there and try that hose areas.
We used to fish there a lot, but now that we're much older, that hike is too much. We caught some huge ones there.
Caught 7 rainbows with my grandfather on the East Carson last weekend, good stuff!
Well fed
