I forgot to say how much I enjoy your videos. No dumb music, no dumb commentary, just an angler’s view of the stream, with fish caught, fish lost, and lots of helpful information on flies and rigging. And you are a very skillful angler. This stream has lots of snags and tree cover and the fish are easy to spook, but you make it look effortless. Keep up the excellent work. It’s great to see this stream through someone else’s eyes.
Thank you very much for your comment! Your cheerful words have greatly motivated me!
100% agree. Too many trendy fishing (and every other genre) videos on youtube these days, trying to be like cheesy television shows, which is why I prefer youtube in the first place
The places where you catch nice trout are worth the trip just for the scenery. I grew up fishing the White River, Spring River and the Strawberry River in the Ozark Mountains.
Thank you sir for such a beautiful video on a pretty stretch of water.
Thank you for your comment!!
I’m so lucky to live near this beautiful river😊
I’m so glad you enjoyed this video😁
Thank you. Wonderful effort. Possibly a double figure fish by the looks of it. So thick al the way along the length of it;'s body. My first double figure wild brown was caught in the upper reaches of the Waiau in the south island. I'll never forget that day - the take - the fight - the joy of it all. I can relate to your experience. perfect!
SWEET video, mate!
Thank you so much😁✨
So cool seeing the fish swim. I live in the middle of Phoenix and there's nothing to fish in this desert wasteland. What an awesome place to live over there.
Simply wonderful video and what a truly gorgeous fish.
@@JH-ck1nr Thank you so much!!😁
Looks absolutely amazing!!
@@polarbearfelly Thank you so much!!!😆
Those sizes in such a small river?, absolutely crazy!!!.
Is this river catch and release only? Or, you do not eat the fish you catch? All the trout you caught are very good size and amazing the number you are catching! Very beautiful huge brown trout. Have never seen anyone catch so many trout in one outing! It is such a very narrow river. Thank you for a Great Video.
Thank you for your comment! This river is not catch-and-release only. I sometimes keep the fish I catch, but only within the legal size limits and regulations to ensure sustainability.
I also uploaded some videos that I cooked trouts!
I’m glad you enjoyed the video and the beautiful trout here. It’s truly a special spot!
That is a nice looking Brown Trout.
Great video and great fishing and a beauty of a brown. Thank you for sharing
@@andrelaishong577 I’m so happy to hear that!! Thank you for your kind comment!!
Looks like a 15lber too me. Beautiful fish. Well done 👍 🎣
Haha Thank you very much!!!😁
Those are some amazing fish man. I live in the US and we get some salmon here that run into the creeks, but there are always trout that come behind the salmon. My favorite technique is using wooly buggers with a split shot or 2 up the line. The fish love it. You’ve got some great trout fishing there in New Zealand and I’ve always wanted to go there. Awesome video and keep up the great work! 🎣
Thank you so much! It’s great to hear about your experiences in the US. Trout following the salmon sounds like an exciting challenge. Wooly buggers with a split shot is a solid technique-definitely a favorite here too. If you ever make it to New Zealand, you’ll love the fishing spots! Thanks again for the support, and tight lines! 🎣
Fishing heaven!
It sure is!
Aww m8 I just happened across this video & I’m not exaggerating when I tell you this is the best fly fishing video I’ve seen on here the footage is amazing seeing all those big fat trout I’m so envious that is one heck of a location it pisses over any of my 3 local rivers here in Edinburgh Scotland 🏴 I used to watch a young guy who lure fished for big trout over your way where the city is the sister city of Edinburgh the river is even named after the river here The Water of Leith. Leith is an area in Edinburgh just north of the city centre our Water of Leith runs right through the city centre & I’ve fished for just over 40 years my pb is just over 22 inches but there’s lots of families of otters all the way up the river they have decimated the wild brown population but there’s still some decent 2/3 pounders to be had but only once or twice out of every 6 sessions 🤷🏼♂️ I’ve only been out 3 times this season the weather has been so bad well for the ties id planned to go out it’s been a very bad windy summer 😢 I only got back into fly fishing last year but still not caught anything 😬 I keep reverting back to spinning using mostly Mepps but I’ve spent a shit load of money getting everything a fly fisherman needs & some but this year I’ll be lucky if I get a nice warm evening before the season ends 🤷🏼♂️ I’m looking forward to watching some of your other videos subbed as well 😉 take it easy & Tight lines 😎
✌🏼💙🎣🏴👍🏼
Thank you so much for your kind words! It’s amazing to hear about your experience fishing in the Water of Leith, even though the otters have made things a bit challenging. It sounds like you’ve been dedicated to fishing for many years, and I hope you get that warm evening before the season ends and land a great catch! I’m glad you enjoyed the video, and I look forward to hearing your thoughts on the others. I’ll keep creating new videos! Tight lines and good luck out there! 🎣
The fact that you can catch trout that close to you is insane. That’s unheard of for 99% of streams
Maybe you got to be more mindful bro 😂 maybe you stomp around or something or cough or talk loud
@@TylerChristoher I fly fish in southeastern Pennsylvania, man. One of, if not, the most pressured trout fishery in the world
Ginormous fish! great video!
Thank you so much!!!
How deep do you set your Nymph? It looks like the water is 8” deep how does three nymph get down or is it right under the surface? Curious how you’re setup to fish this small water…
Thank you for your comment!
Sorry for late reply..
I’m using an indicator with two nymphs, and I keep the indicator set much higher than the water depth. The space between the two nymphs is about 20 centimeters. While fishing shallow water, I make sure to lift and pull the rod slightly to avoid letting the nymphs get snagged on the bottom.
Indicator is not acting like a traditional float. It’s more for keeping track of where my rig is in the water. I also make sure the indicator lands behind the fish so they don’t see it as possible as I can.
Unreal!
Really nice video with som nice fish. Wanting to Get myself a flyprodusenten cuz now i now of a lot of places to fish👍🏻
Thank you so much!!!
Have a great fishing life!!
What strike indicator do you use?
NZ yarn indicator system👍
I fully understand how hard it is to land a really big trout on light leader by yourself! It happened to me in Montana. I hooked a large brown on 5X and after quite a bit my rod arm was getting tired because the fish was heavy. Finally I had to use two hands on the rod to lift the head and then quickly slide the net under the fish. It was 25".
Greetings from the Big Sky! New Zealand is a place I've only read about in magazines. I hear the fishing is pretty good.
Thank you for your comment!
Yes, New Zealand is a paradise for trout fishing!
@@HealingFishing-ce7dx Greetings from the BIG SKY of Montana snd thank you. Catch a big one for me.
Greetings from the bigger sky of the South Pacific. Come join us in NZ. Best trout you’ll ever see and your US Dollar goes far here. Don’t die wondering buddy.
Big sky is the name of the town in Montana, he’s not actually talking about the sky
@@liamkingsbury7438 There is a place in the Gallatin canyon called Big Sky. A place to ski that I've seen and skied. The whole place is the Big Sky.
In 1965 on Wickiup Reservoir in Oregon, some Oregon Fish and Wildlife workers found a large European brown trout thrashing around on the surface, apparently dying of old age. It weighed 35 pounds.
Superb video and the fishing was just as good. Fair dues on landing that monster dude…..I’ve been in that position and lost a huge brown because it wouldn’t fit in my net…..I bought a bigger net and landed my PB in the same spot a year later!
Thank you for your comment and for sharing your story! Actually, I made the same mistake using a small net and lost a big brown trout 😂. I was surprised that you experienced the same thing! I also bought a bigger net, this was revenge for me as well. Congratulations on your PB!!
21:00 onward Congratulations m8 what an absolute stonker 😮 what a beautiful brown 😁 what do they eat in this river? 👍🏼🏴
Thank you so much!! They eat many kind of baits such as warm, mayfly, cicada, smelt, etc…
In spawning season, they take egg fly😊
Piece of heaven...dont give yourself a heart attack landing those big fish.
Haha I was almost gone😂
Magnificent!
@@BodhiTrout Thank you so much!!
Congrats on the PB! Great day on the river. Can I suggest that cutting down the sight indicator will make it much easier to cast? Regards, Paul
Thank you so much!!!
Oh that’s true. Thank you for your kind advice!!
may I ask where is this location ? don't have to be exact but general
Thank you for your comment!
It’s in Rotorua NZ👍
Just about any river in NZ when fish are spawning. Especially if they are running up river from a lake. Bit of fun.
From what I hear you are originally a tenkara fisherman. That’s great and all, but you’ve got some fly line now. Strip some out and let’s get a cast that’s farther than a rod length away. 😊
Seems like they were getting ready to spawn? not a jab just wondering
Thank you for your comment!
I guess so too.
Amazing good video, New sub
Thank you so much!!!
Looks like a ton of fun! Have you ever tried euro nymphing? It would be very effective in a stream like this.
Thank you so much!!
I haven’t tried euro, but I’m curious!
I think this stream is suitable for euro too!!
Is this a spring creek? Looks like it.
@@tenkarapondfishing4611 Yes it is spring creek👍
Wherever you go take Waikato
Hell,I could catch big fish there
What weight fly rod are you using? Looks like no more than a 5-weight, so all the more impressive that you landed that monster brown.
@@tenkarapondfishing4611
I’m using 6wt fly rod.
Thank you for your comment!!
I use a 5 weight in many small nz streams works fine even on the larger models wouldn't go below that tho
👏❤
what river is this if u dont mind me asking?

Wow, great content!! This creek looks so much like one of my favorite creeks here in West Virginia USA, it has the same type of structure and bottom type. Today I fished it and the browns were destroying a stimulator dry fly. It’s like they hated it, they were eating it like a bass eats top water baits. Thanks a bunch!!!! Approximately how long was the big brown ?
@@wvlongshooter3912
Thank you so much for your comment from USA!!
I like this kind of small stream😄
I would definitely love your favorite creek too!
Thank you for sharing your fishing story! Wow, that’s an aggressive brown😳
It was over 70cm and great condition brown!

Awesome video mate. Thats one very productive day on the stream. Was this moring or afternoon? Cant wait till 1st of December.
Thank you so much!!
It was the best day ever.
It was in the morning.
I know~ I can’t wait either.
I regret not going more often before the season ended😱
Have a good fishing mate!
👍
Congrats on your pb brown! What was the length?
Thank you so much!!
It was about 70cm😊
@@HealingFishing-ce7dx great fish. My pb brown this season was 60cm and 5.5lb
Can someone guess the weight of this brown trout??
70cm, good condition... maybe even fatty. hmm, about 3.7kg? A stream monster, that's for sure, though not too rare in that particular area, as the stream is a spawning stream.
@@thomasneal9291 Thank you for your comment!! Yes, it was quite fat. I have never weighed a trout, so I was curious.Thank you for guessing!
It became my memorial fish😊
@@HealingFishing-ce7dx I put up a link to a random reference you can use to get a baseline idea to work from, but in case it gets disappeared by youtube, you can just google search on:
Brown Trough Weight Length Ratio
and that will give you a list from various sources.
My mate caught a brown jack at 62cm that went 5.25lb, I caught a 60cm hen that went 5.5lb
70cm Tasmanian brown and in condition like that, would weigh 8-10lb easy. Nice fish.
Don't you see how spooked those trout were? They are darting back and forth. NZ trout must be very naive to be able to catch them after being well spooked.
A good day’s fishing! Have you considered bending down the barb on your hooks? A lot less hassle when it comes to releasing, and obviously better for the fish.
@@struck2soon Thank you so much!!!
I have considered before, but never tried in NZ. I have been too afraid of loosing fish because I didn’t have many chance to catch fish before.
I used to do Tenkara in Japan. I always used barbless hook and I liked it.
Thank you for your advice! I’ll try it next time!
