Alex, one thing I appreciate about your list that I wish other reviewers do more often is put the actual name of the game in the chapter titles. Straightforward and succinct. I don't always have the time in the world to watch the whole video so that really helps. It also helps quickly glance if there is a particular game I'm interested in hearing your thoughts on, and actually keeps me more engaged in your videos compared to other reviewers top X videos. I see other reviewers just label their title like "#3 Game". Keep up the great work mate and appreciate the effort :)
Thanks! I get why channels do it, it can lower engagement by not obfuscating...but it's something I've always done and would like to continue doing.
FWIW, it raises my engagement. I won't wade through "list of things" videos that don't have a summary of the items, I just skip them.
@@BoardGameCo
Unfortunately most people skip through chapters and they hurt engagement overall. @@ckessel
@@GameBrigade That's true but even when chapters aren't named I just skip through them looking some something I'm interested in. If I can't even do that, I'm done with the video entirely so scratch engagement altogether. For me, personally, the more user-friendly the video is made, the likelier I am to watch it and return to the channel for more.
I like the surprise when it comes to Top 10 lists, specifically, but I don't mind if the names are in there either.
I love Ares Expedition. I’m glad you have warmed much more up to it
I picked up the Vindication all in archive because of your channel and loved Vindication it so much it went right to my #1 (and #1 of another player in my group)! I have only played base so far, but I'm looking forward to trying out some of the expansions this year.
Wow! I'm glad you're enjoying it that much 🙂 it's always a dangerous game to hype things, because I'm always worried when it will or won't work for somebody else.
I picked up vindication way back when because of your video and it is my favorite game as well. I also picked up the last round of DEI because of you. And also backed new Cyclades because of you (and maybe old school SUSD vid). What I'm trying to say is that my kids aren't going to university because of you. Keep it up!
I love you guys… the top 20 videos were awesome and I want to play all of these with y’all.
Thanks for the video as always !! Also didn’t know there wasn’t a big Box edition for inis in english , here in Italy we have it!
Oh interesting!
Awesome to see Vindication at #1! I love it too though I fear that putting everything in the gigantic box will make it harder to take places and play so I may have to devolve it! Also, nice to see TMars getting so much love from you both! One suggestion is to add a recap list at the end like Dice Tower does. Great series!
Orange Nebula must be happy to see both their games in his top 20. Unsettled is firmly ensconced in my top five and I'm eager to play the new planets.
Board game Santa, I was good last year and I'm a subscriber. Man, I've been waiting for these top 10s for so long. I think Terraforming Mars, Imperial Dune, Everdell, Too Many Bones, Gloomhaven are especially rightful on the list. I would add The Old World Witcher and Roll Player and The Lost Island of Arnak to my list.
Great list! I'm with Meg in keeping Gloomhaven up there for now. Can't wait to try some of the ones from Alex' list though.
Loved the list and the validation on so many of these games that I have purchased but have yet played have been worthy purchases. 😊
We literally plan summer vacation time around Sleeping Gods. Everyone makes it in, we have food, we play for 6-7 hours a day, then wake up and do it all over again the next day until our vacation ends. It's an amazing game.
Wow. I can’t believe there are so many games I haven’t played out of these 20. Mythic mischief, dice miner, for North wood, rurik, DEI, vindication, and final girl (mind you, I typically pass on just solo games).
Thanks guys! I loved hearing your enthusiasm. It makes me just want to play games!
Yeah we definitely have a good mix of super popular games and slightly less so in our top games of all time
Vindication is so so good! Its my #4. Played my first game of Unsettled this year and it will definitely make my top 10 as well after s few more plays. Orange Nebula is fire.
Much love.
I knew Meg was going to pick Final Girl in her top 10 when I saw that one of the boxes was missing on the shelf.... and it wasn't missing in the last video
Appreciate the video, so many great games to play.
Yes, a frequent and constant problem
I have been looking for a sticker for my case of Arkham Horror. I think I'm sold on the Goosbumps sticker! Teaching new players this weekend. And yes Gloomhaven is so wonderful! Also yes to Terraforming Mars, gosh great top 10 lists! 👏👏👏
Got the two versions of Critters at War for my grandsons. We did not like the "supplies" scoring added in the Flies, Lies and Supplies version as much. But when we played the Epic version using only 5 arenas we discovered that the "supplies" scoring is only on the "Economics" cards. So we played Epic without "Economics" and it was so great!!! Give it a try to add more depth of a good thing and not too much longer play time. We still played the base game when we just wanted a lot of replays. All Great!!!
Final Girl #1 Meg you know what is up!! This was the only Kickstarter I ever went all in on and did not regret any of it. 100% worth it on all levels from production, theme, gameplay, art, and replay ability. Easily my favorite shelf of my collection is Season 1&2 of Final Girl.
LOL, I could tell as soon as the video started and saw frightmare on maple lane was missing in the background.
I'm curious how Alex feels about all the Everdell expansions, and which way is his favorite to play.
Nice lists! Totally agree with Vindication. It is so good and always unique.
Yes!
Also want to comment that I really enjoy Meg on these as well. Her personality really comes through and I enjoy the fact that she knows what she likes, why certain games really work for her, and isn't afraid to promote the great experiences she's had with them even if they aren't the latest hotness. Having complementary and contrasting perspectives provides more depth to the discussions. Thanks for making the effort to put these together!
Thank you both for your top 20. Makes me want to try Vindication again. Fell flat with my group and the extra fluff had me sending it out the door. Dune Uprising with the expansions is so good and probably surpass Brass: Birmingham as my favorite game although Oathsworn might beat out both once I complete the campaign. Not usually a solo gamer so won't do FG but I might have to solo TMB since I have that campaign. Now I regret selling my first season of CDMD at cost without playing it but holding out for Marvel retheme 🤞
Just ordered vindication and excited to try it!
Ps my drinking game for your channel is to drink every time Alex says something “is going to be” instead of just “is”
Lol, I do indeed use that turn of phrase too much
Oh my goodness! I want to play all of these! I'm really considering getting Final Girl and Clank! 1 + 2. I backed at $1 level and have been wanting to finalize my pledge but I'm so broke right now. Vindication is another one the more I see the more I want. I backed Spirit Fire and since then I keep seeing Vindication everywhere. I also backed Mythic Mischief all-in and can't wait for that one too. I own TMB Undertow and can see myself owning the Trove Chest. I love that game and want everything! I want everything! Queue the sighs!
Alex second pick got to be my most played game of last year so much fun ! great list guy
I knew it'd be Final Girl when I saw the missing box over Alex's shoulder! So many great games on this list, I own a total of 7 out of the 20 (Meg barely edges out Alex 4-3). Looking forward to another year of content!
I knew Vindication was #1 just from process of elimination. No way it would have dropped off the list.
Castles Of Burgundy is probably the best $25 I spent on a game, even if I haven't played it in a few years.
Yep :) both fantastic games
Nice list! Was waiting for a top ten :D Wasnt expecting Vindication though. Though happy, as i'm currently playing unsettled and i love it so much, that i root for Orange Nebula
We root for you! :-)
Thank you boardgameco crew for your videos I would love to met you one day. I am a big fan
Managed to snag a copy of Season two of C:DMD, for less than retail(which is great since it's sold out again, and scalpers are on the loose). I'm bummed cause when I got the base, the Season 3 and 4 KS were over and I would've completely back it. This game will probably never leave my collection as it is also the first game I fully painted, not to mention I love it, even though it can be punishingly difficult too
Mixing Everdell with Bellfaire and Newleaf makes for the perfect Everdell experience. IMHO. It totally fixes the Meadow issue, and that mix makes me rate Everdell as my #2 game. It’s so satisfying and immersive every single time.
Bellfaire and new leaf here we come i guess
Yes very much agree here.
I also don't use any base game special events - only Bellfaires.
I'd also be tempted to implement a farshore rule. Duplicates stack. To give more variety to the meadow.
Enjoyed that guys!
Thanks :)
Wow, amazing to see Rurik climb higher this year - thanks Alex!
It consistently holds up
It's been great to see the success you've had with this game.
@@TheSchaef47Thank you!
Nice top ten lists!
That opening was very entertaining, you guys have great rapport.
Thanks :)
Air Land & Sea (Critter for sure) was #12 but #1 in games specifically for two! Love it so much, and so much more and more as the people I play with get better and better acquainted with the cards
Thought I was surprised to see Inis off the top5, but most of the picks after Inis were unexpected for me except CDMD and Castles of Burgundy!
Thoroughly enjoyed following along this as I went through my own games and ranked them for fun. It's harder than I had realized :D
Glad you've been enjoying :) And ya, things move around a decent amount.
Alex and my taste don’t usually march up very well. & we only have 9 crossovers between my top 60 & his top 100. BUT 5 of those crossovers come from his top 10 which is pretty cool!
Ok this video finally made me crack and finally go out today and get final girl. Its always been on my radar, but it seeing making it to a #1 spot I feel like its a must try now.
I hope you enjoy it!
Rurik is one of my favorites. The way you sit staring daggers at the auction board, and your planning always comes out a mess on the map ...
lol 100% yes
This is always a good time of year when we finish off all these top 100s! Another great list
There are a few on here that I haven't tried yet, but they sound intriguing. I love Everdell! Awesome list!
A lot of great games :)
Thanks Alex and Meg for the great video! Alex, where are you buying For Northwood? It seems sold out everywhere I look.
The last copies I got were from game nerds
Meg's list is definitely closer to my taste and the better list for me. 4 of her 10 are also in my Top 10 (Cthulhu: Death May Die, Arkham Horror TCG, Gloomhaven, and Sleeping Gods), while Alex only has one (C:DMD).
Great picks! I align a bit more with Alex (I'm not campaign gamer, definitely prefer regular euro style games). For Northwood is phenomenal and I just got to review Critters at War and it's such a good game
Hi guys.
Very new to the board game hobby and your channel, but I’m really appreciating all the content you guys are doing.
Cheers
Alex - I remember recently you were talking about a solo game and commenting that you don’t like the “beat your score” or “consult a grid” win condition for solo games. At the time I thought “but he loves For Northwood! which is consult a grid.” I agree with you that For Northwood is all or nothing for me. In my mind, I only win the game if I win all of the hands. Anything short of perfect is a loss.
lol exactly...it's all or nothing in that game :)
Nice to see a small-ish game like For Northwood.
Yep :)
Arkham Horror LCG and Marvel Champions spawned from Lord of the Rings LCG, which is amazing and very hard at times but extremely thematic. I also carry it in 2 wooden cases with 3D print inserts to hold the cards.
Vindication #1!!!! We love to see it 🔥🔥🔥 Orange Nebula deserves all their flowers
Its so good :)
@BoardGameCo it's absolutely one of the best, if not the best, game. Such a clean cube pusher euro that doesn't feel themeless. The Archive was super worth it.
Great list! I hope to try DEI at Dice Tower West.
Love the list Alex ❤
Glad you enjoyed 🙂
Meg - so nice to see you with the last 20 games. I love how you and Alex present together.
Thanks!
"Air Land n Sea" sounds a lot like an analog version of "Marvel Snap", with the point wagering mechanisms.
Very similar. If your interested get the newest version "flies, lies, and supplies." The wife and I love it!
Except it’s better because it’s balanced.
Oh my goodness. Through out this video I noticed that Freigtmare on Maple Lane was missing, and it was driving me crazy 🤪
Love the list guys, and the fact you did it together. Alex, I totally agree with you, I compare Wingspan with Everdell all the time, and I would choose Everdell every time as well. The tableau building is so much more satisfying, there is less randomness with the worker palcement spots, and the strategic ability is just much higher. Love to see Dune Imperium still on the list, I can't get enough of it. Love the passion you guys share!
The empty space between final girl boxes was killing me! I had to keep staring at it. I was imagining I was in Arkham and it was making me go insane and sucking in my soul. I had such fear that it was some type of black hole and was going to rip off Alex’s face and make me cry. All in all great video and experience.
Wow! Again, Meg picks some amazing games i know---and don't know. I really need to follow her channel because she's giving me life with some of these titles I need to buy/ play. Thanks for the collab!
She has excellent taste!
Awesome list
Thanks :)
Excellent video :D
Appreciate it!
So Meg is rating Too Many Bones a lot higher than Alex. Never saw that coming !
My shocker was Mythic Mischief!!!
I had 26 crossovers with your list. I won't name them all because my entire list is available on BGG and people can find my list there. I will say, though, that we both have Terraforming Mars in our Top 10. It was #7 on my 2023 list.
It's still a great game, year after year it hold up
Vindication all in is sitting wrapped up on my shelf :x should try it
I do recommend it :)
Hats off to Death may Die and It's nice to see TMB in the top 10. Trash or not I pulled the trigger on Dice Miner after this. I'm a sucker for dice 😂 thank you guys 👍🏼
Dice minor is one of those games that is surprisingly fun for what it is.
I'm surprised Skytear Horde didn't show up in Alex's top 100
Wow For Northwood is in your top 10 Alex. I just got mine can't wait to play it.
I love it, I don't know what it is about it, but I love it
For Northwood beat out 20 Strong on this list which is interesting
Everdell - New Leaf is the best expansion and a must own. It really gives players the tools for cycling through the Meadow and just doing more in the game
Castles of Burgundy - need to absolutely play Vineyards. I love the new production, but that new module is beats it. It's that good.
Oh wow, that's good to hear!
vindication, have to play more of this one it’s really a good game
I love Vindication but haven't played any of the expansions. Do you think it is worth it to get the Archive of the Ancients so I have all the content? Or is the base game enough?
For Northwood! Is sold out everywhere online :(
I also really enjoy Vindication, I wish I had that big box though - it would make set up a lot easier. It's a hard one to introduce to new people though because of how much it has going on. I'm curious though - would Vindication (only the base game) still be your # 1 game? Or does it only qualify for that with the Archive of the Ancients + Leaders expansions? Chronicles is really, really great by the way. One of the best expansions for a game ever in my opinion, up there with Rise of Fenris.
.... and I was wondering why there was a Final Girl box missing! ❤
Lol I forgot for a bit what her top game would be.
Ohh I’m excited let’s see what’s on the list
I had a feeling Final Girl would be somewhere since it’s missing off the shelf lol
If a game is in your top 10 I don’t really understand why you would be so against playing it solo. Especially if you play solo games.
Either way, great list guys! Not much of a Dungeon Crawl guy or luck driven games but weirdly enough I love me some Final Girl.
I have the Gale Force 9 version of Dune, have you guys played that? Totally different games I take it but is Imperium a lot better?
Alright! 🎉 - where can I see a collected list of the top 100? Ideally from previous years, as well, for comparison . . . 😅
AHHHH THANKS MEG!
Lol I was surprised!
Ok, maybe I’m not watching enough of your videos, but I did not see Vindication at number 1. It is tied with Scythe for me. I do believe that the minis come into play in Leaders and Alliances expansion? I believe when built they get placed on the board. Great video!
It is quite incredible that just 3 years ago your number 1 game was Blood rage, number 2 was Terraforming mars and number 3 was Inis. Terraforming Mars and Inis have both stood the test of time whereas Blood rage has fallen quite a bit. Could you iterate a bit more on this change because I find it quite interesting.
All fan-freaking-tastic choices!
Rurik continues to climb 😍😍 for northwood is the only game on this list a don’t have 🤪 might need to change that today
Both are great :)
@@BoardGameCo vindication, DEI, DMD, Rurik all in my top 10
Rurik is sooo good. Always in my top 10, too 😊
It's amazing!
Have you played any of the D.E.I. Expansions yet? If so, which would you recommend?
Alex, I just wonder, I usually agree with your ratings, I also love area control games, which makes me wonder, did you play Voidfall? I can't otherwise imagine, it's not on top of your list.
Sadly I have not yet
@@BoardGameCotry to fix that asap, as I said, I have very similar taste to you, game wise, and Voidfall has became my favorite game very quickly
Final Girl was a Spoiler cause it was missing on the shelf. ;)
Meg, have you checked out earthborne rangers? It is an open world lcg, so like a mix of ahlcg and sleeping gods the vibe is like the inverse of ahlcg, it is hopeful. Such a great game.
Wow Alex Vindication #1, I love it!! O Neb killing it with there titles.
It's great :)
I kept on expecting Tanares: Adventures / Arena to appear, though by the time it didn't appear in the top 20, I realised it would likely not appear. Now I can't remember what score you gave it. I thought a 4.5 at least?
I wish I could find a storage solution like that from my Arkham LCG
I believe it's from Lobby Hobby
The whole time I'm watching I kept thinking "What happened to Vindication!!!" Then it showed up as #1. It's a great game and Orange Nebula is just a great group of people. For the stats, I have 4 out of 10 from Alex's list for this segment. That makes a total of 22 out of 100 overall. So 2% higher than what I'd estimated. The 4 I have are:
Inis
Castles of Burgundy
Terraforming Mars
Vindication
These would also be very highly ranked in my games list as well (probably mostly top 10 but no lower than top 15). Others from this segment that I've seriously considered and may still get at some point are Rurik: Dawn of Kiev, DEI (Divide et Impera), and Cthulhu: Death May Die. All of those definitely fall into the type of games that I really enjoy. There's just so many games and so little time that it's hard to own them all!
And now we get the final totals for @srebme2. I think there's a good possibility you have at least 7 of these! And the results are....
Soooooooooo close. Only 6 in this batch:
Air Land and Sea: Critters at War
For Northwood!
Castles of Burgundy
Everdell
Terraforming Mars
C:DMD
We’ve almost purchased Vindication a number of times but another couple in our gaming group owns everything so we haven’t bought it.
I purchased a used copy of Aquatica yesterday- which was lower down on the list. So technically we own (or used to own in two cases) 50% of Alex’s top 100. That’s too many asterisks though so I’m going to concede defeat. Our current collection as of 1/14/2024 has 48 of Alex’s top 100 games of all time as of 2023. Two short of the 50% goal.
Meg, on the other hand, we own 9 of her top 10 and I have plans to play the last one (Dice Miner) on Friday. I need to visit her and binge a campaign or legacy game in 24 hours.
Meg, where dud you get that Arkham LCG breifcase?!
Was wondering when Final Girl would appear because of the gap in the boxes on the shelf.
Uhh, now it gets really exciting
Lol yes :)
I want to play final girl so badly but it is very hard to find in my local area.
All solid picks, and happy to see Vindication take a top spot. Love that game.
It's so much fun!
What about a top 10+ scenarios of Cthulluh death may die ? 🤞
Inis is just such an amazing game that sadly needs 2 or 3 plays to get into it.
Dice Miner 💪🏻
The boardgame santa has spoken.
:)
Meg, where did you get the arkham horror LCG wooden case from?
If I recall correctly, it's from hobby lobby, but I could be mistaken
Wow Meg, I commented on the last video, but if Arkham Horror LCG is in your top 10 AND you want a free roaming relaxed open world game, you NEED play Earthborn Rangers! It's by ex-Fantasy Flight devs and it's basically been described as Open World Arkham Horror LCG. Really looking forward to hearing what you think if you give it a try.
Lol I know that's a game she wants to table.
No Summoner Wars is a shame, love the content keep up the good work!
