This channel- more specifically this video- was the thing that got me into board gaming- after watching all your videos on binge I’ve officially become engrossed in the community. Other than your opinion on Root haha (my new absolute favorite upon 40+ plays) I found everything you’ve said in this video and others to be incredibly insightful, especially considering the moments of playing games- those satisfying moves or rewarding turns- to be the things you remember rather than the outcome of who won or lost. Honestly, made me think about when I was in high school and played Coup at lunch every single day with my friends- not a super crazy strategic game, but just enough to incite major laughs and satisfying moments in the group we’ll never forget. So again, thank you!
That's amazing to hear and one heck of a compliment! I'll likely not sell Root and hope that eventually I have three people who know it well and want to play it with me. Super asymmetric games can be tough to hit the table if you're not bringing it regularly. I've always found the most important part of a game is how it makes you feel. If some game is super unbalanced but you still walk away enjoying it, then the unbalanced mechanics don't really matter to some extent. You're welcome!
@@TabletopTurtle I 100% see Root as every character having that one thing that makes them seem absolutely insanely good, but every character should know that about every other one so it somehow balances it out in the funniest way possible- you’ve got the one character that has the most figures and the most control from the start of the game the character who’s turns are only limited by how many cards they put into their engine (as many as you can add without failing) the character who spreads like wildfire with worker placement ish ideas the character who’s playing an RPG while everyone else is playing Risk haha
And you just made the best top 100 board game video on the internet! The hilarious transitions, the constant hidden puns, the cool games, and were you in Vietnam at some point!? I cant even imagine the amount of work that went into this! That ending hit me like a truck and I wasn't expecting it at all.
@@TabletopTurtle I am no expert when it comes to that, I mean it worked on me lol. All I can say is I will share it with anyone and everyone I can. Also your story behind the number 1 game was beautiful and exactly why this hobby is one of the most special on earth. Thank you for sharing that and being vulnerable.
This is not just the best top 100 list of all time but also one of the greatest videos about board games. A lot of the times, I don't particularly care about themes or mechanics but rather the experiences I can expect when I play them and not since 'Shut Up and Sit Down' have I seen anyone capture those emotions in such a succinct and effective way. The best board games are the ones that give you stories you remember. Also, was fun seeing you visit my homeland of Singapore! Thank you for making this an hope your channel blows up.
Wow thank you! I agree because there are games where mechanically I know they're not the best but yet there is something there that makes my friends and I come back. Kim is singaporean too!
Wow, I've always loved to watch other peoples top 10s, 50s, and 100s, but never have I come away from them like I've been on such an emotional rollercoaster. Singlehandedly THE greatest video about boardgames I've ever seen.
This list hit me so hard at the end because I lost my father to cancer and I grew up playing cribbage with him. It was a game that I played with him until he physically couldn’t anymore. I still think of our games every time I think of him. We couldn’t communicate well with each other unless we were teasing the crap out of each other during a game. I miss it!
No doubt he was happy he could share that with you, just like my dad, even if they (or we) were not the most expressive. I'd like to think not everyone needs to express themselves through conventional words. Teasing over a dumb move is just as much an "I love you" in my books. Thanks for the subscription!
Good job on making your list entertaining and giving overviews of the games without getting stuck in a tutorial. Thanks for sticking to your guns on your top games and the impact it can do bringing folks together. I almost died laughing with the Arnold pump cut
This is the single most incredible, most entertaining, most passionate, most heart-touching video that sums up what boardgame as a hobby truly represents for me and for the community. @TabletopTurtle, thank you, THANK YOU, for sharing something so special and so pure.
Holy crap! Now these are some kind words! I thought it best to convey as best I could why I love board games and I'm thankful I'm not alone in seeing this hobby as something a bit bigger. Happy to have entertained you!
I have to admit, I’m new to the channel and was excepting to jump to just see the picks and move on. But this video was so well done I stayed for the whole thing. Nice work!
Amazing finish to a great video...and boy could I relate. We often forget the moments a game may represent, not just the playing experience itself. There is a game like that for me that I played with someone who is no longer with us...Stratego. And your closing statement just took me right back to those moments...thanks so much.
That's awesome. Have you tried Lord of the Rings Confrontation? I played a lot of Stratego when I was a kid too and was really happy when I found Confrontation.
Why not? Risk is great, it is a classic and the classic are the greatest because of the memories sticked to it. All people start with Stratego, Monopoly or Risk. The other board games all come later. May your father rest in peace.
This video made me buy a new copy of risk. I played it with my dad too and had great times with him. Great video, Turtle. Memories are always the most important thing 'cause when we don't play a game anymore, we can always go back to our memores, our stories. Thank you for the video.
I love watching top 100 games lists because I just like to listen to other people talk about the games they're passionate about, whether they line up with my tastes or not, and many times I find out about games that weren't even on my radar. This video came up randomly in my TH-cam feed. I'd never heard of this channel before, but after watching, I instantly subscribed. Hands down, this is the best Top 100 list I've ever watched, and that ending is what it's all about. Funny enough, Risk is also the game I grew up loving as a kid, and is the game that initially pulled me back into the hobby as an adult with the release of Risk Legacy,. This in turn allowed me to discover the world of modern hobby board games that has allowed me to re-connect with lost friends and make many new ones for 10+ years now. Love this hobby. Thanks for your hard work on this video. Looking forward to watching your other content!
I'm happy you enjoyed it! I was worried not a lot of people would want to watch something so long. The one thing that was great about Risk is that unlike other classic board games their variant games were always uniquely different and not just re-skins. Risk Legacy was super cool and that's amazing that it managed to be your sort of "gateway" game back into the hobby. It's such a fun thing to share with people.
Nowadays, my dad is getting older and older. Age has come to him quickly, and I feel we were getting distant from each other. Board gaming gives me the chance to pass time with him and share a good time together. This video reassures me of how blessed I am to have this opportunity and how important it is as time goes by and we may not be able to play anymore. Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart for this video.
Thank you for the kind words and I hope you get the opportunity to get closser through gaming. Sometimes, we don't need to express ourselves through words to really feel love.
Wow man. What a video. It's been two years since I get into board gaming and it was because of my 10 and 5 year old sons. To have moments with them. The idea the they can someday look behind and say "we used to play that with our dad" is amazing and that's why this video hit me so hard. Thanks for sharing your passion with us and most specific your story.
They will absolutely have their own stories involving you and gaming! That's a guarantee. Even though once they turn teenagers they'll completely abandon you and think everything you do is lame, including gaming . . . but they'll come back eventually haha
Well if I had to make a top 100 list on board game ranking videos this would be 1 without a close second, you explain what no one else really did and that’s just the love of the hobby itself and I share many of these experiences with you so thankyou
What a moving love letter to this passion. Boardgames as a way to communicate and share precious memories, sometimes without words. Sometimes with words. And your words are gold.
Boardgaming to me is exactly that - stories shared and bonded with friends, and more importantly with family. I have never invested more in any hobby where I felt it was very much worth it. The hours I share with my wife and two kids (10 and 7) playing games and having fun are truly priceless. Thank you for the articulating my exact thoughts and feelings about boardgames. Oh and your video production quality here is truly off the charts! Best I’ve seen. Super glad I found your channel Instant sub!
I am happy that so many other people such as yourself share the same feelings for the hobby as I do. It really does feel like a community. Hopefully, your kids continue gaming into their teens instead of abandoning everything you love as "lame" haha
Wow you've really raised the bar on what board game content can be! Loved how you focused not just on the mechanisms, but how they feel to play with friends and family. Awesome production and entertaining throughout! First time I've watched a video and felt like I owed it to the creator to like, comment and subscribe! So glad I found your channel. Great work 🙌
Thank you! These are some seriously high praise and I'm happy we provided you a bit of entertainment. I don't know why people keep saying TH-cam comments are hell because I'm not seeing it lol
Thanks for the amazing top 100, thanks for talking about your wife, friends and especially your Dad. So many things that we all were able to share with our Father or Mother…. With me my Father… I too miss him as well, he died 10 years ago and I miss playing games, watching movies and baseball with him… yes Risk would have to be your number 1, nothing can replace playing with your father before he passed away… keep that memory forever!!! Love your video… will be watching a lot more of your stuff…. Board games are ALL about family and friends… that is truly why they are so fun and give us so many memories
Always fun to share! We watched a lot of baseball and basketball together too and really once he was gone I just kinda stopped because I realized I was really only interested as a means to connect to him. Happy to hear you feel the same way about games as I do! Welcome!
I used to watch football world championship with my father, before he passed away when I was 18. Now every four years I watch the games thinking of him. He would have loved board games, he played lots of Canasta. I wish I could have shared this hobby with him.
Excellent video. Usually I skip games Ive played on lists like these, but the format made it impossible! Sometimes the least expected games are the best ones, and as soon as you said Risk, alllll sorts of childhood memories came flooding back. Fantastic video and I look forward to watching more of yours!
I'm in a similar boat where my wife is also into board gaming and the times I cherish most are those when we're at the table playing a game, no screens. It's so nice to have a shared hobby.
It really is the best feeling and honestly I really think having some form of a shared hobby with a significant other is the key to a happy relationship.
Well done! Of all the games I've played in my life, some of my coolest memories are of playing Risk with kids I babysat and college students in S Korea when I lived there for four years. I was really touched by the joy you had while playing Risk with your dad before he passed! Losing a dad absolutely sucks -- I would have loved to have had that type of memory before mine died suddenly and unexpectedly. Treasure those memories! And keep making great videos! Nice that you have a wife who is also learning to enjoy your hobby and be a cohort behind the scenes!
Thank you for the kind words! I'll likely never create better memories than having sleep overs as a kid just to play Risk, Super Nintendo, and eat Doritos lol
I thank you for sharing your personal story at the end, this is what brings people together. I also cherish the memories I have with my father, who passed away when I was 18. I love your content, will keep on coming back! Best wishes to you and your family!
I'm happy you had your father in your life throughout your entire childhood. I bet you have some awesome memories yourself. Thanks for the wishes and kind words!
Oh my goodness gracious you just made the best top 100 video EVER . I feel like I got to know you through this video - and why you love the games you love ! I loved hearing your stories , feeling excited about your passion of gaming, and all the super cool shots around Ottawa/wherever you be !! Also shoutouts from Waterloo Ontario :)
Definitely my favorite board game list of all time! Watching you go from location to location for each game was very fun. Btw have you heard of a game called Blood on the Clocktower? It's my favorite board game of all time, and each game feels like it's own story.
Thank you! Nothing like a silly blend between travel vlog and board game list! I have played it once or twice and I really enjoy it. It's likely one of the best social deduction games out there. My problem is I can't bring myself to spend the crazy amount of money the game costs!
I stumbled upon your channel 'by accident', I was searching for reviews of Voidfall. This video is most excellent. The amount of work you put into this video is just amazing. The ending really hit me! You are so right, it's not about the exclusive minis, deluxe tokens and stuff, not about wining and rules disputes. It's about creating moments and memories, the trash talk and the fun you have with friends and family. Clever plays and inside jokes you remember and talk about for years to come. I'm sorry for loss, but at least you have fond memories of gaming with your father. Remember and enjoy them when the sadness hits you! I give you a hug and a subscription.
Thank you! Appreciate the view and sub and the condolences. Happy to see there are so many people that see gaming as something a little bigger than the sum of its components.
Hey! Recent subscriber here. Just coming here to say what a great experience it was to see this video. Thanks for making this. I think the best story this video tells is really showing a bit of who we are in a setting where are able to show our back stabbing side, or mean player side and all the other "good and bad" sides with the great intent of having a blast with people we care about.
I'm happy you enjoyed it. Welcome! It's true! Gaming is fun because it can capture so many different emotions and those experiences change so readily depending on who we experience the games with. It's an amazing hobby, for sure.
Bravo! I rarely watch top 100’s nowadays but I watched this one all the way through. I hope your channel becomes a titan in the hobby. You are succinct and honest in your opinions and given how “hype” focused board gaming content has become, I think many viewers, including myself, see your videos as real rarities and such a pleasure to watch. Keep em coming my friend! I’m sure your dad would be so incredibly proud of what you’re doing. I share my love for gaming many times with patients I work with (I’m an occupational therapist), and I love seeing the small little moments of reprieve people find when engaging in a short game
I'm in the same camp. I sort of just listen to them now and then like a podcast and just skip to the end. Thanks for all the kind words. Keeps us motivated! Hopefully you keep bringing joy to people with games!
Darn you for making me actually watch the video, lol. The dedication to make this is next level; many thanks to you and Kim. Love your dog, your Cholula, and highly jealous of your Timmy's... Also, love that story from Dungeon Fighter!
I usually just listen to people's top 100 as a podcast in a way so I thought it would be fun to provide some reason to actually watch! Don't be jealous of Tim's, after it was bought by some American company the quality has dropped like a stone.
To be honest, this is the second video I watch from you but seeing you get emotional about risk, it's like damn... That's why I love playing board games, just to connect and share time with the people I care in a way that no other hobby can make me do it; love how you make your content I'm sure gonna keep going back to your channel ❤❤
This was brilliant and wonderfully unique! Not only did I hear about quite a few new games, we got to travel with you, laugh (and cry)with you, and got to know you and why you are doing this! Kudos for all the work you put into this and thank you for the journey!
Risk is the gateway.. so many memories playing risk with my friends as a teenager, friends that i have not seen in 15 years.. but because of risk i still remember all of them.. i dont even remember the games themselves... but i remember where i was, and how i felt. As an adult i try to recapture that feeling, the games i play now might be better.. but its never the same
@@TabletopTurtle It took me a few watching sessions to get through the whole list, but it was amazing. I personally don't play Risk, but that is a great #1 for you. Thank you for sharing. ❤
I subscribed to your account because of your Glory To Rome graphic redesign - you can even see me on BGG doing/uploading the corrections in your thread. And I'm really glad I subscribed to your account, because this is the most fun and most creative top 100 board games I've seen in a while!
Oh yeah! I'll have to go back there and update the files because someone said there was an error or something. Happy you enjoy the content because we are just trying to figure things out.
One of the best-made videos I have ever seen; I can only imagine the amount of work it must have taken. Congratulations on the efficiency and creativity.
I just stumbled upon this video and I believe this is the most entertaining Top100 I have seen, top 100 of anything, not just boardgames. I couldn't stop watching. Thank you for the hard work you put into it and for the interesting titles you made me curious to try. I am now a subscriber 😊
Well we're happy you stumbled onto this video! It was a ton of work but a ton of fun and we're happy you really liked it. Hopefully you don't buy all the games in the video! 😜
i feel you, my dad passed away when i was a teenager, we often played board games, and one we very often played was inkognito, great fun game, not too complex but nice interactions (atleast back then). sadly he never experienced the board game collection i have now, and how complex and interesting they can be. im sure he would be amazed and eager to try every game out, same with you id guess. awesome top 100 and someone who puts argent and archipelago in top 5 is always a friend of mine :D
I remember always seeing that game in the Fantasy Flight catalogue but never played it! He probably would but at least you can share it with your friends and family now and in the future. Nobody ever talked about argent and archipelago for some reason and yet they're so much fun.
Sheer respect for your project sir. I've lost my dad a year ago and I commune with your emotion when telling a story about him. Thx for your work. Greetings from México :')
I just stumbled across your video and I never thought I would find the greatest video in this platform not by people recommending it to me because I love boardgames but because of coincidence. You're criminally underrated and now I am the one recommending you to everyone I know. Greetings from Germany and keep being you, you're a great guy
That's amazing! I have no idea how the TH-cam algorithm works, but I'm happy you found us if only for the selfish reason of getting some very high praise! Hopefully we continue to entertain you.
Well, that was a rollercoaster. I certainly didn't expect to be sobbing by the end of this video- but I so appreciate you sharing your story with us all. It was so beautiful and touching to hear how this hobby has been such an intrinsic part of your life. I feel so similarly. And thank you, for gifting me a few new games for my 'To Play' list :)
Thanks for the solid Top 100 with the interesting format - great to see so many Ottawa locations. I was originally surprised by your number one but the stories and the memories make it! A game that I was completely expecting to see as the list whittled down was Carl Chudyk's Innovation.
Well we really like Glory to Rome and feel like it's better than his later implementations, even though i know Innovation is a fairly unique stand alone game. I'll have to try it again some time because I know they are releasing a Master Set this year.
Thank you for sharing your many years of board gaming experience, I made a list of games mentioned in this video that I would like to play now. The last minutes of the video sum up what board gaming is really about for me and my friends, too, and I admit I've never teared up in some strangers' top 100 list. I'm happy for your memories and hope others have their own funny, cutthroat, or otherwise shareable stories too.
This was so entertaining and I am interested in trying so many new titles thanks to you! That ending hit close to home and I love that board games mean more than just collecting to you. Please keep being you and don't be afraid to be vulnerable moving forward. Subscribed!
One of the games I love dearly is Clue. It is because it was the one board game I could get my mom and dad to play. We had such fond memories playing it as a family. My mom and I loved it because it was a game we could beat my dad at even though he was a genius. It will alway hold a special place in my heart because of it. I wish I had gotten to play it more with my dad before he passed. I haven’t played it since. I think I will play it with my mom for his birthday this year. Thank you for the wonderful video.
I’ve never watched a video from you before, I’m just a sucker for top games lists. That said, you threw me for a loop on that #1 and it was beautiful. I also have many wonderful memories of that mediocre game with people that are no longer with us that never fail to make me smile. I never make comments, but this one deserved as much praise as a stranger can provide! Thank you for sharing.
Thank you for your story. I have to admit: the end hit hard! But you nailed to capture the essence of boardgaming. My number 1 would be a small dutch cardgame, just bc I wish I could relive the dreary Dutch sunday afternoons, where my Dad and me would get as competitive as always, in forementioned game. All the best from the Netherlands!
Dude congratulations on making the best top 100 video EVER. It was so incredibly good, first time I watched 2 hours non stop of a top 100. Just subscribed. You are an amazing content creator and I can't wait to watch more of your stuff. I wish you nothing but the best, cheers!
Really amazing list, incredibly thoughtful and well implemented. Funny, heartfelt, touching, you really hit on all the reasons I love playing board games. Thank you ❤
I feel like I just walked around Canada* (then travelling to Thailand*) talking about boardgames with a mate. Well, he talked, I listened. Amazing video. Been to both countries. If you arrange for Canda to have Thailand's weather, I'll come back. Also, really lovely story about your dad.
I loved all your choices and I played most of them too! I want to play the other ones, that's how much I've enjoyed this video! 😊 Loved the ending too! Our connection to our loved ones is what's important in the end! Cheers!
So long as your finding a way to play all the games and not just buy all the games! I don't want to be the reason for your bankruptcy! Thanks for the kind words and shared view on board gaming and how it's more than silly games.
Just wow! I accidentally stumbled across your video and needed a video to play to kill some time… and was pleasantly surprised. This is a fantastic top 100 list and video!! Really dig the real talk without all the hype words. Will definitely be burning through all your other content!! And yes, if I am honest and think of the game I played to most growing up and had the best and worse memories of… it is Risk!! ❤
Thank you! Yeah, we've gotten a lot of comments about the commentary on the games themselves. I think going forward we'll talk about the games more like your buddy would when asked about a game and less like a reviewer. If I have to hear "It's not for me, but you might like it" one more time in a review I'll go nuts.
Great list. Great thesis on what makes for a top 100 list. And powerful end. Your right it was worth the work you put into it. First video of yours I’ve watched and I am now subscribed.
Thanks! I appreciate the sub and I'm happy you enjoyed the video. I often wonder if there is room on this platform for longer content when it's saturated with short videos and people just don't have the time for longer stuff. Happy to see there is.
You absolutely made me cry. My favorite game is RISK too for a very similar reason. I do not like the game but my memory is so emotional of it i have to give it my #1.
It's a weird space because I don't really want to play Risk again either and I know it's really not that great of a game, but yet it's still a favorite. Happy you could experience some emotion from just another silly video online about board games!
This was a great video. Thank you very much! Definitely subscribed. Totally get your number one. The experience is far more important than cool minis or great gameplay.
Welcome! Happy we agree on the importance of the play experience over everything else! I've played so many games where I can acknowledge it's not the best designed game but if I'm having fun, I don't really care.
My dad has Dementia, Alzheimer’s, has had at least 3 strokes that I know of and is generally in bad shape for more than 10 years now. I had a head injury myself in late 2021 that set me back greatly. I had to learn how to drive again and can no longer work in the electronics industry since my IQ dropped, my short term memory and speech centers are affected, every day is hard. But, I’m persistent and learned how to play splendor, Merchants and Marauder’s, Clash of Cultures and a hand full of other games over the past couple years. I dunno, the end of your video really grabbed me and I relate to it quite a bit, just thought I would say something at least. Thank you for your video, much appreciated 👍
Well, if you can tackle those games, I'd call that some significant progress. Keep up the work and keep pushing yourself. Thank you for sharing and I'm happy the video resonated with you emotionally.
Just recently got really into Boardgaming with a friend, we are looking at all the shiny games out there tempted to buy way too many. Loved this video for the great effort and the early reminder that it's not the shiny games that count but the experience with the people you play. Thank you for that, hopefully we can contain ourselves and get awesome experiences with the games we already have (but never played lol) All the best!
It's really hard when you first enter the hobby because there is SO much out there to experience. Just take it slow and don't feel like you're missing anything. The great thing is you can be hyper choosey on what games you play next. Try a little bit of everything and really narrow down what you like in a game. Also, approach online content creators VERY cautiously. People are selling shit on here and some are selling harder than others.
What a video! I just started to search for the games (never played anything before). You are one of the first top board games videos I watched, and it was good)
Dude I feel you on Risk. We played the shit out of that game. I played that game so many times with my father as well. Almost completed Risk Legacy with him as well. It truly is a special game because of all those memories. I however patiently taught him Dwellings of Eldervale.. and we play that fairly regularly now a days. This made me feel like I need to get over there more than once a month however.
That's amazing! I would have loved to play a more modern board game with my father. For sure you should see him more! We have to make use of the time we have.
Great video... New to the channel and the community but this video was very helpful. While I'm not sure i can be as mean in gaming, I'm gonna try. Your a Risk segment really struck me. I vividly remember getting stuck in a mn blizzard and grabbing a copy of Risk at the Walmart near some random hotel (we had another copy at home) and playing with my parents. They are both gone now, but i still have that copy. Those are the memories I'm always chasing and love to hear about all the games to make new ones.
Thank you and I'm happy you enjoyed it! That's a great story and it's awesome you held on to that copy. I know we shouldn't horde games, but I think a few sentimental objects here and there are worth it!
Abalone. Blood Bowl. Mancala. Crokinole, I love it, my grandad made a few boards we played on as we grew up. It came out in 1876 and was invented in Ontario. My home province in Canada. Rebound we played some. Masterpiece classic about buying and selling paintings.
This video is... just... perfect. Congrats. And thank you for sharing many original thoughts, jokes, honest opinions, and even deep emotions with all of us. Top quality content! 👏
Loved the video and all the local shots. I'm in farhaven, don't get into town too much plus the shots of history and war museums....my old workplace :). Keep up the great work!
Great video and definitely an original way to do a top 100! There's so many games in your list that are in mine too and then there's a bunch that are on my shelf of shame ^^. Great job!
I have to admit, I clicked on this to see what your top game was and was pleasantly surprised and simultaneously touched. Thank you for being open and honest about your top game and sharing your story about your father. I have also struggled to communicate with my own father. What I liked most about your story was that, when you wanted to gang up on players, your father said it would be unfair. That takes integrity, which is a rare thing these days (and should be praised above all else!), and he communicated that to you through your shared love of Risk. If there is a take away from any of this, it's that having integrity is what makes you a good person and that's one of the best messages a parent could ever give to their child. In a roundabout way, he communicated to you one of the greatest messages of all! That's the way I see it. May blessings be upon you, my brother.
@@TabletopTurtle I 100% see Root as every character having that one thing that makes them seem absolutely insanely good, but every character should know that about every other one so it somehow balances it out in the funniest way possible-
you’ve got the one character that has the most figures and the most control from the start of the game
the character who’s turns are only limited by how many cards they put into their engine (as many as you can add without failing)
the character who spreads like wildfire with worker placement ish ideas
the character who’s playing an RPG while everyone else is playing Risk haha
And you just made the best top 100 board game video on the internet! The hilarious transitions, the constant hidden puns, the cool games, and were you in Vietnam at some point!? I cant even imagine the amount of work that went into this! That ending hit me like a truck and I wasn't expecting it at all.
Thanks!
It’s criminal the amount of work that has gone into this video, to only have this many views. Keep it up! This is fantastic.
Thank you for the awesome compliment! Hopefully it picks up steam or something. Maybe the thumbnail needs improving.
@@OodlesanNoodles Thank you! Happy we're in agreement on that point.
Damn, right in the feels. But you nailed the ending. Boardgaming is so much more, then just then fun you have, playing a game.
Happy I posted that ending now. Felt strange at first.
This is THE BEST top 100 list I've ever seen. Great games, but the story, the locations, the end... amazing.
Thank you!
Thank you! That makes me very happy to hear. Always nice to have something that goes a little beyond a talking head at a table video.
Wow, I've always loved to watch other peoples top 10s, 50s, and 100s, but never have I come away from them like I've been on such an emotional rollercoaster. Singlehandedly THE greatest video about boardgames I've ever seen.
Thank you! We really wanted to make something a little different and I'm happy you appreciated it!
The production of your videos is on other level compared to other boardgame channels. I wasn't prepared to cry watching a top 100 boardgames.
We really appreciate that! It's meant to be a more positive emotional share than negative though! Happy memories.
Good job on making your list entertaining and giving overviews of the games without getting stuck in a tutorial.
Thanks for sticking to your guns on your top games and the impact it can do bringing folks together.
I almost died laughing with the Arnold pump cut
Thanks! I've always disliked extended overviews. If I want a tutorial I'll just watch one.
This is the best top 100 I've seen in a long time. Thanks for your histories, thanks for yor passion and thanks for share your personal thougths.
Thank you! Sitting at the table doing a talking head would have been easier, but much less fun.
Nice work!
Happy to provide a little visual entertainment beyond the usual pics and talking heads.
Best board game and life story told in a long time! ❤
Thanks! Happy to provide something even a tiny bit unique in an overly saturated market.
Why not? Risk is great, it is a classic and the classic are the greatest because of the memories sticked to it. All people start with Stratego, Monopoly or Risk. The other board games all come later. May your father rest in peace.
We all have to respect our roots!
This video made me buy a new copy of risk. I played it with my dad too and had great times with him. Great video, Turtle. Memories are always the most important thing 'cause when we don't play a game anymore, we can always go back to our memores, our stories. Thank you for the video.
That's amazing!
Oh my! This was amazing! You must have put in so much work, but would not expect anything less from your channel! Bravo!
High praise! Thank you!
Damn! Thank you very much for saying that!
Holy cow! Following the crowd on this one lol. Been in this hobby over 10 plus years this my favorite top game list I’ve seen to date.
Huge praise! Thank you!
What a moving love letter to this passion. Boardgames as a way to communicate and share precious memories, sometimes without words. Sometimes with words. And your words are gold.
Thank you! I'm happy it connected with so many people.
I wish I could have shared this hobby with him.
didn’t know we would get a travel video too. loved it! amazing work!
I think this video deserves millions of views and subscribers. Fantastic work, and also, which is rare - the taste in games is quite close to mine :)
Thank you! I'll take a million views! Hopefully I don't make you go bankrupt with new games to buy.
Excellent video. Usually I skip games Ive played on lists like these, but the format made it impossible! Sometimes the least expected games are the best ones, and as soon as you said Risk, alllll sorts of childhood memories came flooding back.
Fantastic video and I look forward to watching more of yours!
Thanks! I always listen to top 100s as almost an audio podcast. So I figured I'd do something to make a bit more visually interesting.
Happy you enjoyed it! Ontario represent!
Its 3 games in and I already trust you with my life
Good! Now I will start making you buy really bad Kickstarters to games you know I don't like and you won't like so I can buy a new car lol
I loved how heartfelt this list was. So glad I found your channel.
Welcome aboard! I'm happy you stumbled upon us.
@TabletopTurtle oh, that is highly unfortunate.. it was so much better than DD.
To be honest, this is the second video I watch from you but seeing you get emotional about risk, it's like damn... That's why I love playing board games, just to connect and share time with the people I care in a way that no other hobby can make me do it; love how you make your content I'm sure gonna keep going back to your channel ❤❤
Happy we share the same sentiment!
This was brilliant and wonderfully unique! Not only did I hear about quite a few new games, we got to travel with you, laugh (and cry)with you, and got to know you and why you are doing this! Kudos for all the work you put into this and thank you for the journey!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Congratulations. This is a well made, polished, intelligent and emotional video. Thanks for sharing it with us.
Thanks!
Right in the feels at the end man. Great top 100.
Risk is the gateway.. so many memories playing risk with my friends as a teenager, friends that i have not seen in 15 years.. but because of risk i still remember all of them.. i dont even remember the games themselves... but i remember where i was, and how i felt. As an adult i try to recapture that feeling, the games i play now might be better.. but its never the same
It's true. Remembering the things we enjoyed during the golden years of our childhood always just hits so different and can never be replicated.
It deserves more views. Amazing video. The editing, the speech and the list are incredible.
Well thank you for contributing one view! Hopefully more come down the line!
I'm only at #95 and this is already the most entertaining top 100 I've ever seen. Well done. Instant subscribe.
Thanks! Always fun to put the work in and be a little silly.
Due to the effort put into this list I've subcribed - nice (also what an epic journey )- very touching about your Dad, games at there best.
Thank you! Games really do bring us together.
One of the best-made videos I have ever seen; I can only imagine the amount of work it must have taken. Congratulations on the efficiency and creativity.
Wow! High praise! Thank you very much for the kind words. They mean a lot.
I've watched through this video twice now. Such a good video! Thanks!
Thanks a lot! Amazing that it entertained you twice!
Great work @TabletopTurtle !!
Watched the entire video! Excellent! Wish you a lot of happiness!
Thanks!
i feel you, my dad passed away when i was a teenager, we often played board games, and one we very often played was inkognito, great fun game, not too complex but nice interactions (atleast back then). sadly he never experienced the board game collection i have now, and how complex and interesting they can be. im sure he would be amazed and eager to try every game out, same with you id guess. awesome top 100 and someone who puts argent and archipelago in top 5 is always a friend of mine :D
I remember always seeing that game in the Fantasy Flight catalogue but never played it! He probably would but at least you can share it with your friends and family now and in the future. Nobody ever talked about argent and archipelago for some reason and yet they're so much fun.
Man, well done, huge effort and really creative.
Thanks! Appreciate it.
Sheer respect for your project sir. I've lost my dad a year ago and I commune with your emotion when telling a story about him. Thx for your work. Greetings from México :')
Thanks!
Your channel will be huge one day! Keep it up! Every aspect of this was quality. Thank you
I appreciate that! That's the dream!
Thank you! It was a lot of fun sharing the highs and the lows and really the lows are happy memories anyway in the grand scheme of things.
Great video! Amazing job! That's it, the stories we gather around a table that we will remind during our lifetime!
Greatings from Spain!
Thank you!
Amazing quality! I can only imagine the insane work that went behind!
Nice list and amazing number one. Stories and memories are the best parts of the hobby. Thank you for sharing.
And thanks for subscribing!
Hopefully, you end up loving them! I'm happy that I'm not alone in how I feel about gaming.
Truly the gold standard of list videos, so glad I found your channel!
Wow! Thank you for that huge praise! Hopefully some videos in the future can match that same level!
This was so entertaining and I am interested in trying so many new titles thanks to you! That ending hit close to home and I love that board games mean more than just collecting to you. Please keep being you and don't be afraid to be vulnerable moving forward. Subscribed!
It's always a little awkward putting yourself out there online.
Awesome video, I had the creeping feeling that it all felt very Canadian only to realize we're in the same city. This Ottawan is subbing.
Welcome! You can tell it's Ottawa because everything outside looks bland.
Lol, I mean I can't argue but ouch still
One of the games I love dearly is Clue.
You're welcome!
Great watch. I’m subbed moving forward. Can’t wait for the next stories
Thank you very much. I'm happy it entertained you!
Dude congratulations on making the best top 100 video EVER. It was so incredibly good, first time I watched 2 hours non stop of a top 100. Just subscribed. You are an amazing content creator and I can't wait to watch more of your stuff. I wish you nothing but the best, cheers!
Wow, thanks! I don't know if I've watched any TH-cam video for that long, so it really means a lot to me.
Really amazing list, incredibly thoughtful and well implemented. Funny, heartfelt, touching, you really hit on all the reasons I love playing board games. Thank you ❤
Happy we share the same passion for the hobby!
Nothing says exotic travel like joining me as I redo my basement. Thank you for the kind words.
Great Video! One of the best top 100 board game videos!
Also: thank you for sharing this wonderful, vulnerable story at the end of the video. ❤
Thank you for the high praise!
Strong finale! Keep it up, my friend, you got a thing going here.
Thanks, will do!
You put a tremendous amount of effort into making that video. I wish you all the success with your TH-cam channel.
Way to bring this video full circle! Bravo!👏 👏👏
Thank you!
Awesome top 100, recognize a lot of those games. Great picks
Excellent video man. Love the unique idea and the awesome message. Pops would be proud of your journey
Thanks man! I appreciate that!
You are one of the first top board games videos I watched, and it was good)
Welcome aboard! I hope you're going to explore the hobby more! I'd be happy to help.
Wow! This was awesome. The ending actually made me tear up as well. Great job 👏
Thank you! I look back on all that with more happiness than sadness, thankfully.
Love the video! Makes me think abt to play each of your 100 because of the way you've presented them and the experience you share
Go for it! Just don't buy them all or you'll go bankrupt!
Fantastic video man.... truly. All best from Germany
That's my home province!
Excellent job on this video. Superb work really. The best one of these I’ve seen fr
Thank you very much!
This video is... just... perfect. Congrats. And thank you for sharing many original thoughts, jokes, honest opinions, and even deep emotions with all of us. Top quality content! 👏
Thanks for the kind words! We love comments like this! Hopefully, I can continue to entertain
Loved the video and all the local shots. I'm in farhaven, don't get into town too much plus the shots of history and war museums....my old workplace :). Keep up the great work!
Best museum in Ottawa!
An amazing list and an even better video. Entertaining, funny and heartwarming - just perfect. Subbing and anticipating great things in your future!
Thank you very much! Hopefully we don't disappoint!
Great video and definitely an original way to do a top 100!
There's so many games in your list that are in mine too and then there's a bunch that are on my shelf of shame ^^.
Great job!
Happy to hear we have such similar tastes!
Thank you! Those are very kind words and I really appreciate the insight.
