My god.....dude. DUDE. I have been so sick of SFM for the longest time and thought I was done with TF2. You may have sucked me back in...this is incredible.
THANK YOU FOR THIS! Seeing Team Fortress animations was what got me wanting to be an animator and starting this channel. I have a long way to go before I start working with characters as complicated as these, but I’m so glad this will be there for me when I’m ready. If someone else’s comment is correct, you can also use custom models and rigs with this, and I’m happy you added that too, because that means I’ll be able to eventually make Meet the Team-style animations for my three fan-classes (once I learn how to model them), which I’ve worked hard on making believable characters and can’t wait to introduce to everyone. All that to say thank you so much for a how to video like this, I’ve been searching for it for a long time!
Oh and the face distorting thing looks like it could be a viable alternative to GMod type animations too! Mann, you got everything in here. (that last bit was a terrible pun I’m so sorry)
Hey.. best of luck to you, dude! I'm already somewhat experienced with stickfigure animating, but I want to get my animating skills to the next level!!
This would have been really useful to me 2 years ago when I worked on my crossover episode lol It's phenomenal to see progress made from what once relied entirely on Crowbar or SourceIO. Thank you to everyone who contributed to making Source content so easy to use in Blender!
Oh your just gonna make this all and post it for free and have it be beautiful and amazing and convenient huh? you're just gonna do a good job and put a lot of effort in it huh? you're just gonna opens up a new avenue for creation and catapult the tf2 blender renaissance huh? yeah. yeah. thank you. lmao thank you so much for this i know exactly what the first thing im making is
Amazing, any chance this could eventually be expanded to any source or workshop model? The potential this has of this being an SFM replacement is tremendous
the tf2-trifecta already has support for extra models. you can find a porting template in the tf2 folder, along with a special version of sourceio that i used
I would like to ask, since I'm not sure if they're suitable or not. I know Rigify + custom rigs are pretty much just Fancy controls over a Deform rig, so does that mean you could theoretically use them for Workshop Content like Taunts etc? I'm not sure if that's a thing you're going to look into or if you know any exporting plugins that work with the Trifecta, but if these rigs *can't* be used at all because More bones were added to the Deform rigs, it'd be cool to know
because the original rigs and their bone orientations have been preserved, you can use these rigs to retarget an animation onto a set of rigs that you can export animations from. others have used these for taunts and were successful
you answered my last comment about adding the robots but you didn't tell me where they are lol, sorry for sending another comment, but i dunno how else to ask lol (edit, please be specific, i am stupid!) edit 2: i downloaded the robot rigs from the google drive but when installed and spawned, theres no robot, just normal mercs. edit the 3rd, i somehow fixed it, yippie :3 thanks for your work on all this addon, king
Help please, I don't understand what I'm doing wrong, but when I try to spawn clothes, they just appear on the floor and don't attach to the model. Even if I select the model, don't select it, select different elements or bones, hold down shift and other keys, the clothes don't attach. Maybe I need to put a check mark somewhere?
I did everything and it worked. However, when I opened a new blender file it didn't work its like it only worked for that one specific blender file. How do I fix that? Edit: Nevermind it just magically worked now. Thanks for the addon btw I really appreciate it
find the DEF- bone collection (which ever bone collection has the bones with the DEF- prefix). select an object, select the armature, enter pose mode, select the DEF- bone you want to parent to, press ctrl+p, and parent to bone
EDIT 2: Ok so after like 2 hours of debugging, I discovered the reason for the crashes was my Blender version. I feel silly. If anyone else is having the same issue, update to Blender 4.2.2. EDIT: Blender simply crashes if I try to use this at all. I can't install items/rigs through the scene properties, so I did the manual installation but it crashes Blender when I try to scan. I even tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Trifecta addon but that did nothing. Is this a common issue? If so, does anyone have a solution? If it helps, I get a metric ton of "WARN (really long data string here) -> data is NULL for type 46" in the Blender console while scanning, which makes me think it _might_ be corruption, but that would make zero sense because I'm extracting with WinRar like I'm supposed to. I've been making SMD animations for custom TF2 game modes for a long time and have always wanted to put my skills to work for videos, but have never wanted to learn SFM because of how insanely clunky, slow, and just generally ugly it is. I think this might be exactly what I needed to finally give videos a go! Looking forward to trying it out in the near future.
this is weird, because all of this should work down to 4.0. all the footage here was recorded on 4.1 (out of personal preference) but i don't know why it doesn't for you. 4.2 does work though

is there currently a way to convert the mercenaries skin to the voodoo cursed version? haven't had much luck finding the zombie mats myself since all I get are results for the cosmetic piece.
does that bone merge tool works universally too? or is it only in this tf2 trifecta package? I quite want that for working with stuff other than tf2 assets too
how about me taking just that function and make it a standalone addon? all credit goes to you and this addon, of course this way people that work with me can use it without installing the whole trifecta addon
both methods of installation should include everything. if you installed through the addon, did the download process happen to cancel before the weapons got downlosded?
@@hisanimations I downloaded manually because downloading through the addon doesn’t download everything. But there are no weapons. I paused in the beginning of the video where you gave Heavy a weapon and I tried searching for exactly what you did, but no weapons. Edit: I just realized what I did wrong. When downloading, I pressed Download twice, so when two zip files started to download, I thought that they were both the same so I cancelled one. Turns out I needed both and they weren't duplicates. Well, I have weapons now, but how do you animate them? I don't see any bone controls on the weapons that have moving parts, but in this video, you were able to move the soda popper
Does any of this work with HL2 or any other Source games? I feel like, in technical complexity, many of those are effectively subsets of what you already support for TF2 lol
Hi, i really want to use your addons but all my textures are black ! When importing and in the base .blend file of the cosmetic. I'm on Blender 4.2.3. Please help :(
as of the tf2-trifecta 3.1.0, the robots are downloadable and usable with the tf2-trifecta. more rigs can be spawned with OptiPloy, but material switching must be manual.
