"The 1970 revival at Asbury College will go down in history as one of the greatest supernatural events of the last half of the 20th century. Millions of people across the United States and the world were impacted by it. This simple video odes a wonderful job of conveying something of the outpouring's heart and power. Everyone we have ever shown this to have an immediate impartation of faith for revival and the power of prayer. What God did once at this campus, we believe He will do again on every campus where a group of students will open their hearts to Him."
    - Bob and Rose Weiner, Weiner Ministries International
    ***************
What is true Revival and Spiritual Awakening? Discover the answer in this eyewitness account by Dennis Kinlaw, President of Asbury College, Wilmore, Kentucky, who recounts the story of a visitation of the Holy Spirit in 1970. If you are a student who longs to see a spiritual awakening at your school, you must see this video!
This is the presentation that has continued to spark the flames of Revival in the hearts of people around the world. Contains eyewitness footage from the Revival at Asbury College in 1970 in Wilmore, Kentucky. Certain to challenge you to greater holiness and a deeper commitment to full-scale revival. Original news and private footage has been included.
WILMORE, Kentucky -- One morning in 1970, without warning, all heaven broke loose during Asbury College's 10 a.m. chapel service.
"When you walked into the back of Hughes Auditorium ... there was a kind of an aura, kind of a glow about the chapel," said Dr. David Hunt, a Louisville physician who was then a student.
"I always have been reminded of the verse 'Take off your shoes, for you are standing on holy ground.' You just walked in and sensed that God had indeed sent His Spirit."
The service, a routine meeting, was scheduled for 50 minutes. Instead, it lasted 185 hours non-stop, 24 hours a day. Intermittently, it continued for weeks. Ultimately, it spread across the United States and into foreign countries. Some say it is being felt even today.
2010 will mark the 40th anniversary of the landmark 1970 Asbury College revival, an unplanned, unled display of fervor that has been compared to the Great Awakenings of 1740 and 1800. This year will also mark the 60th anniversary of a strikingly similar revival Asbury experienced in 1950.
A bigger outbreak -- a global revival, in fact -- will begin soon, says David McKenna, president of adjacent Asbury Theological Seminary, in his new book, The Coming Great Awakening.
The revival might not start at Asbury, but it probably will begin on campuses, says McKenna, a noted author. He travels to many colleges and says, "I see the signs wherever I go."
Those signs include a generation of students wounded by family breakdowns and searching for spiritual fulfillment. Much of the coming revival will be a delayed reaction, McKenna thinks, to what happened at Asbury College 20 years ago.

I witnessed this as a young girl of 19 when revival came. Freshmen were on the balcony of Hughes Auditorium. We could look down on the others. When the Holy Spirit visited that place in such a powerful way (my knees were knocking), BEFORE students headed to the altar they were looking around for fellow students they were at odds with. I saw so many go to the altar TOGETHER. I will never, ever forget that. We (as the Church) should learn from this.

Have been deeply moved by this ever since I heard about it 10 or 15 years ago. Somewhere I read a collection of the personal accounts of students who were there. The description of how it felt to walk into Hughes Auditorium, the overwhelming presence of God, the sacred ground like the burning bush, the awe of the majesty of God, and the intense desire to get right with God and clean from sin, thrills me to the core. Lord bring revival again and let it begin with me.

When the revival started, I was a senior at a high school in nearby Lexington. The older brother of one of my schoolmates recommitted his life to the Lord, shared with his younger brother who in turn shared with a group of us in a friend's home on Friday night, February 27, 1970. It was the first time I'd ever heard of having a personal relationship with Jesus, and I jumped at the chance. The road these last 44 years has been rough and rocky at times, many years choosing sin over Jesus, but I never let go of God, and He never let go of me. I am truly grateful to have heard His voice when He whispered my name.

If you chose sin over Jesus, then you certainly did let go of God. You can’t have both, Jesus made this clear. Most have perpetuated the lie that you can keep on sinning and still “have”/belong to/be a child of God. Not so. God says if you are sinning, you are a child of the devil.

I was so very blessed to have been there in Hughes Auditorium for the Revival in 1970. I was a senior, sitting just about in the middle of the center section right in front of the platform. Dr. Kinlaw. who was our college president at that time was absolutely correct -- there was nor preacher -- this move of God was all about personal confrontation with sin in our lives as the Holy Spirit opened our eyes, with confession before our brothers and sisters as the Holy Spirit broke down the walls of pride and self, and was about "letting go and letting God" release us from our burden of guilt and shame and replace that burden with sweet peace and joy and Holy love.
To this day that revival experience has been the most moving and most durable experience I have ever had with God. I cannot hear about, think about or talk about that Revival without leaking tears all over again, for Heaven came down and Glory filled my soul. I wish you all could have been there with me to hear Jesus speak in the words of my fellow students, and to bask in the Presence of the Holy Spirit. His Grace and Mercy are almost impossible to describe, but I can tell you this -- He changed my life! Praise God, from Whom all blessings flow!
You know ... nothing is impossible with God ... He can do it again, right where you live! Are you praying?

No, Jom, it was not "mass hysteria." G-d was there. A lot of prayer went into this by a small group for months prior to this. The key was: Prayer. My husband (a senior at Asbury then) was on a field trip in DC when this happened. I was so bummed that he was missing this! But the head of the History Dept. sent word that revival had "hit them" in DC also. This was an outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon all those who were students at the school whether they were present or not. Miraculous.

‘If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land’ (2 Chronicles 7:14).
Thus says the Lord: “For I will pour water on him who is thirsty, and floods on the dry ground; I will pour out My Spirit on your descendants and My blessing on your offspring” (Isaiah 44:3).

I was praying the other day, and JESUS welled up inside of me and said to my heart, "I STILL desire to have a harvest in America." I wept because I felt HIS longing. Listen.....we the church, not our pastors alone are the representation of JESUS to a dying world. If your heart is cold to the lost, then get on your face and pray until you are broken.

Revival is a new beginning of obedience to God. Praying is a poor substitute for repentance.
Ever heard of a 'fearless moral inventory'?
No revival has occurred without it. When it happens, then a person can pray so as to be heard by God.

I recently became curious about the Jesus movement of the late 1960s and mid-1970s, which is the same time period during a previous revival occurred at Asbury. It was then known as The Jesus Revolution. For anyone here who might be interested, a movie will be coming out later this month (23rd or 24th, I think) by that same title. I strongly encourage all of you to check out the trailers and then go see it in the theaters. It will be well worth the price of admission.

I was in Africa when this revival took place and within days it reached us there and revival went across Kenya like a wild fire. When God acts, regardless the comments of the skeptics, He does not stop until His purposes have been fulfilled. That revival spread across the Americas and around the world and there are those who today are still walking with God as a result of that revival. Those who think this is nonsense would think otherwise if they knew Jesus as personal savior. To those who think God fails the people who "really need God's answer to prayer" my response comes from the words of Jesus, "In the world you shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world." To a believer death is a transition to being in the presence of God and even though the separation brings sorrow it does not bring desperation. Remember, every knee shall bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord.

Read Psalm 139 to see His great intimacy with you and for you. If you "seek Him with all your heart, you will find Him." That is written in His Word. I hope that you will -- I pray that you will. "God spoke to me when he called me to partner with him in what God wants to do here & in the nations; 'If you will simply obey the next little thing I tell you to do you will be in the middle of the greatest revival that has ever been poured out upon the earth."
It's up to Jesus to pour out conviction of sin, but you, Christian, remain repentant and desperate for Jesus.

Yes, God DID have a "good day." "This is the day that the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it." That is from the Psalms. That is what Jesus quoted/sang on His way to the Cross after the Last Supper. That was God's "Good Day," because of what it means for us. Redemption. Eternal life. A oneness with HIm which compares with nothing this world has to offer.

Yes, I most certainly have read it. Living on earth "ain't Heaven." It's a battleground -- a brief one, but a hard one. The "problem of pain," of suffering, is an age old question, and can't be resolved in our brief posts. You challenged me about reading the Bible, so I challenge you if you have read the New Testament -- Jesus said, "If you see me, you see the Father." He touched the lepers; gave grace to the prostitutes; showed mercy to a tax collector; etc. A reflection of the Father.

Jomc220, Margaret Collins said the Asbury Revival caused people to be forgiven by God as they forgave others whom they were at odds with. This occurs in every revival -- the Scottish Revival, the Great Awakening, the Welsh Revival, etc. The Bible speaks of a day when this will occur among all the nations. We don't forgive and make peace with our enemies because we ourselves are at odds with God. You say that this is all superstition. So tell me Jomc20, what do YOU do with YOUR guilt?

I don't want God forgiving people on my behalf! What if someone killed a relative of yours? Would you not be aggrieved if someone else forgave them without your permission? However, personally, I have never held grudges against people as I understand that people can be weak, jealous etc. We don't need some group event to be forgiven or to forgive. What I do with my guilt is none of your business. I certainly don't invent an invisible imaginary despot who I decide forgives me. Yes, superstition!

Not a good day for Jesus, though! Who wants eternal life? I don't. It makes me feel tired to think of it. If I were a charlatan and completely lacking humanity, wanting to start up a new religion (it happens all the time, after all), I would probably offer a carrot such as eternal life and a stick such as eternal torture. But I'm not like that. It takes a very primitive mindset to want to control people like that. We should be more civilised by now. But you won't understand me.
