    It looks like it is working okay so far. I am a little concerned it might fall out when the wood shrinks as it dries. When you sat the tote down I could se it shift. It will be interesting to see how it plays out in the long run. Great idea if it remains fairly stable.

    Great idea. I know it would be a little more work but since you would have the cut outs already you could just put hooks on them all and leave the panel on until ready to dump. All you would need is some round stock and bungies. Instead of bungies you could add some round stock on the bottom below your hooks, drill a couple holes in the pallet and stab them in as you hook the top.

    • @oldguyfirewood
      @oldguyfirewood  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for commenting! I may make some additional removable panels as time allows. Maybe I could have enough eventually for all totes. I actually tried your suggestion on pins on the bottom of the panel. It didn’t work because the pressure of the wood on the panel wouldn’t allow you to pick straight up on the panel to disengage the bottom pins. You need to be able to pull the bottom of the panel away from the bottom of the tote and then lift up to disengage the top hooks.

    Hello, i have seen a number of these videos about modifying IBC totes for firewood and there have been a lot of good ideas. I do like your version but i was wondering if you might try a slight variation on your design. What if you did exactly as described in your video and use the removable gate you have but on another tote instead of cutting all the vertical tubes out of the front, leave one or maybe two in place. Might be enough to hold the firewood in after you remove the gate you built but still allow the wood to come out freely when you dump the tote. Worth a try on another video. If it does not work then nothing lost as you can just cut out the vertical tubes and be right back to your original design. By the way i am old and love cutting and splitting firewood too and enjoy your channel. Keep up the great videos. God Bless. Peter

    Love that IBC idea. My only concern when I split is all the waste going into the IBC tote. I know it comes with the territory of all Boxwedges, regardless of make. I had to sell my 22/28 this week, and going with a Vertical splitter with conveyor. Hated seeing her leave, but for me and what I do, I need cleaner firewood. Now I just have to go back and make gates on a few of my 50 IBC totes,,uggg

      @@oldguyfirewood Yes, I'm going with Wolfridge VS17-C, Vertical with conveyor this time. I ordered last week, 8-10 week leadtime. I tried ordering Easton Axis, but the wait time was way longer. I put my 22/28 on Fbook market Sunday, sold it on Monday. I honestly was not expecting it to sell in one day- but he had cash, so I let it go :). I am now, however, without a splitter at all, just waiting 8-10 weeks. You'll have to stop by and see it when it comes in :) . Being delivered up the road to Durham Polaris/Quality Saw Mower. Looking good Dick! I just did something similar for my totes coming up in a future video! My one concern with cutting the entire face of the tote out is that as the wood dries its going to shrink and move and might be more prone to falling out of the large opening! Only one way to find out!

      Thank you! You have to be able to swing the bottom of the panel out before you can lift it up off the hooks. If you put pins on the bottom you can’t lift it straight up because of the pressure of the wood against the panel. I tried it…

      @@jimmieburleigh9549 no disrespect taken Jimmie. My tractor will only pick a full tote up to the height of the floor of my dump trailer. Once I get the front bottom of the tote on the floor of my trailer I can tilt forward and lift at the same time to dump out of the front of the tote.
