Hi DW! Never used a mingo marker. I’d be likely to run out of paint and not have any extra on hand! But I do like them. Zip ties are a pretty fast option too.
Hi Dick, I think they work great for “saw logs” but for tops of trees not so much, same as the Perfect Stick. Me personally I am pretty darn accurate when eyeballing 16”. Oh and last year I made a fb “Reels” video of my helper Zach using his Mingo Marker, well it blew up getting 1.7M views. The president (Brandon) of Mingo Market reached out to me to send me one to use in my videos but I turned it down because I can eyeball it, plus I cut more tops then saw logs.
Always wondered if the Mingo Marker paint would dry and possibly clog if left sitting. I cut to 18” and have a line on each of my bars to eye ball measure my cuts. Works ok +-1 inch.
I switch between laser, mingo marker and accu-mark. Mingo marker is a bit fragile and finicky for my liking and the paint can be a bit messy to deal with. Accu-mark gives you the most precise and repeatable measurements.
I’ve never tried the Mingo marker, always seemed a little bulky, etc. to me but with no experience it’s just my thoughts. I know a lot of people use them. You did a nice job breaking it all down though.
I will say the Mingo marker has definitely been on my radar for measuring. I currently use a homemade perfect stick style device. I guess the one downside i see to it would be having to carry 2 items to measure the wood. The Mingo and the paint to go with it. Which is just another thing to possibly lose in the woods. Hopefully it stays secure in the can.
Here in the U.P. of Michigan I heat all winter with wood at my house. So . The Mingo Marker intrigues me. Thanks for the advice. You second concern with replenishing or buying paint for the MM.
Hey Dick, hope all is well buddy! I see both cons for the mingo marker. Having to buy paint and the dots. I saw the video that Jake did about how long a single paint can lasts in the Mingo Marker. I've never used one but thinking if you have less than straight logs the curves would cause the measurements to be off a little as well. From a time perspective though when marking with Accu-Mark or perfect stick the saw is already running and you can transition quick to bucking the logs. I just slip the accumark in my pocket and cut away.
Buying paint and the ugly paint spot were of concern. I never used a Mingo. but what about plugged spray nozzle, is that ever a problem? I draw a line on my bar at 18" for my personal firewood. Hold saw sideways along log then eye the 18" spot. Usually good for 1" or less error but that's for my stove and firepit. Good video...👍
I have one the perfect sticks broke disk off glue back on broke again. I am really ok with plus minus an inch. It is nice to have all the same. Having to buy the paint is definitely a down fall but should last very long time. Thanks for the video.
Hi Dick. Thanks for doing the video and giving us a chance to get one of these. I was concerned about paint running out too and having to keep on buying it. I don't think it would be difficult to throw an extra one in your bag in case.
Hello Dick I’m still using the Perfect Stick (so far) but the Mingo Marker might be a good alternative. Buying paint and the paint residue on the wood shouldn’t be too much of a deterrent for me. Thanks my friend.
Hello Dick. In a past video I believe you expressed concern about burning paint. The Mingo marker is a slick tool. I would hate to run outta paint when I need it though. Great share Dick. 👍🪵
Thanks for watching Matt! I wasn’t a big fan for a while but watching Jake at Dude Ranch DIY, and Scheib I figured I’d give it a try again. Once I got the hang of it the Mingo Marker has become my “go to” method.
Made a "perfect stick with a magnet, all thread, washer and a couple of nuts. cost maybe $2 bucks, no paint needed. and 15 seconds is not an issue to me. Oh and I sprayed it yellow to find it easily.
Hey Dick! Great dropping by the channel to see what you’re up to today! That second concern was having to buy paint cans for it along with the paint dots on the log :). Great video and discussion! Enjoyed hearing the birds singing on the intro 🦜. Thanks for having us over! Take good care! 🔥💯👍 Andrew from NB :)
Like your content Dick! You had stated that buying paint for the mingo marker was an additional cost and you’re not crazy about paint marks on your firewood sticks
Nice hook to get folks to go back and watch an old video. 🤔 I watch the video previously but I have to admit I had to go back and watch again to see that your concern was having to buy paint. I also did some research and it looks like they suggest that one can of spray paint will last for 5 miles of logs. Assuming 16" cuts, that would be 19,800 marks from a single can of paint. Pretty hard to believe, and like the number of licks to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop, I don't think I'm ever going to know for sure. 🤓
Good job Dick, I have a few concerns but hey don’t we all. One is like your other one…having to buy paint and having it get weird in the winter. My biggest concern is in reality how big of a paint dot does it put down ? Plastic always makes me wonder in cold weather conditions. But after seeing all of you guys using them you might persuade me to try one…keep it up my friend 🔥🪵👍
Thanks for your dedication to producing great videos Dick just like this one. Your second concern was buying the paint for the Mingo Marker. Keep on moving!
Hello OGF, speed and ease of operation are always a WIN for me, sure there are times the Mingo will not be the best, or worth the paint it takes to mark the sticks, but for wood you intend to sell, and accuracy is a major concern, it is hard to beat,
Good video and demonstration of different measuring tools👍 I alway find it funny when when someone says they can "eyeball" it and be accurate. If it is for personal use, go ahead and do your thing, but if you have paying customers you have to be accurate.
I like the mingo marker, I need to buy a new one, I use sidewalk chalk using that method. My Mingo needs some new parts. I been using it for over 6 years or more. My customer do not have any issues with the paint. I believe it about having to buy paint for it and it leave a paint mark
Thanks for the vids. I’m currently debating the mingo at the moment. My biggest concern would be the wheel itself. Jumping, slipping, sliding, making inaccurate marks overall, especially when in a hurry. Have you had issues with that?
Thanks for watching! I’ve had no issues like that. One of my subscribers said he had a problem with wet backless logs, but it hasn’t been a problem for me.
It is good to see someone closer to my age still cutting. It is harder as we get older. I wish I could do what I could 20 years ago I;m 72 now and it get;s harder every day Mingo marker: you gotta buy paint for it.
Hi James. Thanks for watching. It definitely gets harder as we get older… frustrating at times! The Eastonmade 22-28 splitter with the box wedge and conveyor make it possible for me to continue to be productive!
Hi DW! Never used a mingo marker. I’d be likely to run out of paint and not have any extra on hand! But I do like them. Zip ties are a pretty fast option too.
Hey Mike. The paint really in't an issue. I'm still on my first can and I have marked at least 10 cords. It still feels full!
Thanks for the comparison! I never would have guess the Mingo marker to be faster than the perfect stick!
The more I use the Mingo Marker the more I like it!
Hi Dick, I think they work great for “saw logs” but for tops of trees not so much, same as the Perfect Stick. Me personally I am pretty darn accurate when eyeballing 16”.

Thanks for watching Joe. If you can eyeball within 1" that is definitely the way to go!
Always wondered if the Mingo Marker paint would dry and possibly clog if left sitting.
I cut to 18” and have a line on each of my bars to eye ball measure my cuts. Works ok +-1 inch.

Hey good day - thanks for the demo and honest comparison. Cheers Dick!
Thanks for watching Gord. The more I use it the more I like it!
I’ve never tried the Mingo marker, always seemed a little bulky, etc. to me but with no experience it’s just my thoughts. I know a lot of people use them. You did a nice job breaking it all down though.
I wasn’t a fan at first Heath, but I just didn’t give it a chance. I forced myself to use it and it’s become my favorite method now.
Hi Sean. I leave the can of paint in the Mingo Marker. It is held securely in place.
Hello Dick, never got notified of this video. We tried all the paint methods, the perfect stick is our favorite 🪵🇺🇸
With that Mingo Marker you are definitely a Master of the Woodyard!! 😀👍🍻
You have made me the Master Dan!
Great comparison Dick! My favorite right now is the Perfect stick. The second concern was having to buy paint👍👍
Hi Jeremiah. It took a while to get used to the Mingo Marker, but it has definitely become my favorite.
Great review Dick..I think your looking for..You have to buy paint and leaving the paint mark..
Here in the U.P. of Michigan I heat all winter with wood at my house. So . The Mingo Marker intrigues me. Thanks for the advice. You second concern with replenishing or buying paint for the MM.
Thanks for watching Joan. Try a Mingo Marker... I think you'll like it once you get the hang of it. The cost of paint is really a non issue.
Joanpenrod1 - you were drawn as the alternate winner of the Mingo Marker! See my video from May, 10 on how to claim your prize. - Dick
@@oldguyfirewood Ok I will watch the video

Mingo Marker, you said other disadvantage was additional cost of buying paint.
I had a Mingo for a while. We didn’t hit it off very well.
Mingo Marker, the disadvantage was buying the paint!! Stay Hydrated and Have a Safe Day
Mingo marker
The other disadvantage is running out of paint/ having to buy paint
Mingo marker second disadvantage was having to buy the paint for it
Mingo marker, the 2nd thing you didn't like was you had to buy a can of paint.
Hi Dick. Thanks for doing the video and giving us a chance to get one of these. I was concerned about paint running out too and having to keep on buying it. I don't think it would be difficult to throw an extra one in your bag in case.
Thanks for watching Clyde. The cost of paint is really anon issue. Someone mentioned a study that said one can would make over 19,000 marks!
Mingo marker: concern was Having to buy paint.
Hello Dick I’m still using the Perfect Stick (so far) but the Mingo Marker might be a good alternative. Buying paint and the paint residue on the wood shouldn’t be too much of a deterrent for me. Thanks my friend.
Hey Bill. I've found my two initial concers to be non issues. It took a little while to get the hang of the Mingo Marker but now it is my favorite.
Good video Mr Dick . Mingo marker , got to buy paint !!!
Disadvantage is you have to buy paint and also leaves a paint dot on the firewood.
Great info Mr. Dick!!
I enjoyed the comparisons!!
Thanks you!
Hello Dick. In a past video I believe you expressed concern about burning paint. The Mingo marker is a slick tool. I would hate to run outta paint when I need it though. Great share Dick. 👍🪵
Thanks Jimbo. Ive found that running out of pain is a non issue. It lasts forever!
Buy the paint, paint residue on the wood show up after splitting. Not a concern.
Good video. I’ve never used the mingo marker myself but it looks fast!
I tried them all…I’m back to chalk and tape measure.
You have to buy paint for the Mingo Marker.
As always I enjoy all your videos stay safe my friend and Clifford to
Thanks John. I ALWAYS enjoy your comments!
Hey Dick! Great dropping by the channel to see what you’re up to today! That second concern was having to buy paint cans for it along with the paint dots on the log :). Great video and discussion! Thanks for stopping by Andrew. I always enjoy your comments.
Hi Dick great video keep up the hard work my friend ( Mingo Marker leaves paint mark on the end of the rounds).
Great video .Second concern was having to buy paint
Thanks Rodney. Cost of paint really isn't a concern. A can goes a LONG way!
Like your content Dick! You had stated that buying paint for the mingo marker was an additional cost and you’re not crazy about paint marks on your firewood sticks
Hey JB. Ive found both of those concerns to be non issues.
Zip ties on saw bar my favorite, each to their own, nice seeing you again so soon keep moving
Second concern I believe was, buying paint. Greetings from the southern piedmont area. Enjoy your videos, Keep moving!
Thanks Warren. Where are you located in the Piedmont?
Great intro Dick. Buying paint is a minor concern 😊
Hi Kenny. I've found that the paint lasts forever.. not a concern as far as cost.
Nice hook to get folks to go back and watch an old video. 🤔 I watch the video previously but I have to admit I had to go back and watch again to see that your concern was having to buy paint. Ha ha! Good information. The cost of paint is really a non issue.
Leaves paint on the bark, BUT the answer you're looking for is, "You have to buy the paint"
Thanks for watching. The cost of paint really isn't an issue. A can will last for ever.
Good job Dick, I have a few concerns but hey don’t we all. One is like your other one…having to buy paint and having it get weird in the winter. Hello Ben. The cost of paint really isn't an issue. One study showed it would mark over 19,000 times from one can!
I've always wanted to try a Mingo marker. Having to buy paint is the other concern.
If you don't win this one definitely buy one and try it out!
Good video and demonstration of different measuring tools👍 I alway find it funny when when someone says they can "eyeball" it and be accurate. If it is for personal use, go ahead and do your thing, but if you have paying customers you have to be accurate.
The perfect stick in old video wasn’t as nice as the one in this video stay safe my friend and hello Clifford
Hey John. The original video fractured an accu mark. I ran over it with my tractor and then got the perfect stick. They are very similar.
the 2nd concern was buying paint love the videos. thank you
Thanks Christian!
Might have to try my Mingo marker
I have to be honest, I wasn't a great fan at first but after watching other channels using it I gave it another try. Now it's my favorite!
Buying paint was the other concern. Great video's
Thanks Barry!
Buying paint.
Hi Dick, the other disadvantage to leaving a paint mark is that you have to buy paint for it. Have a great weekend
Minho marker was not a choice for you due to buying paint and leaving paint on the wood
If by chance my name is drawn I want you to keep it I’d settle for a t shirt or a hat and a sticker
Great demo, and your second concen was having to buy paint.
Thanks for watching!
Mingo marker 2nd concern: was about buying paint!
You have to buy paint for it. I suppose a can will go a long way though.
Need to buy paint along with it makes paint mark on the wood
I like the mingo marker, I need to buy a new one, I use sidewalk chalk using that method. My Mingo needs some new parts. I been using it for over 6 years or more.

Hi Alex. Thank you! The cost of paint is really a non issue.
I like my perfect stick
That was my favorite until I decided the give the Mingo Marker another try. After using it for a while it has become my favorite.
Dick just program the processor 12” 14” 16” long at pc of timber 8’x6” or 36’ or long. Hard to keep up with a 575 Cummins turbo. 😊
👍👍
Hi Dick, Its nice to see someone that keeps moving!!! Mingo Marker- the second concern, was having to buy paint. Thanks for the great content.
Thank you!
mingo mark
Thanks for watching Clint!

Hello Dick, you have to buy paint!
Mingo Marker: Drawback - you've got to buy paint
