  • In this video we check out the moisture content of some red oak that was split into a Log Lift Bag back in early November. I also add several great channel stickers to the Wall of Flame.

    Hi Dick, Hope you get that piece of wood back from Clifford. I want to thank you for the shout out of our channel Club Dora. We really appreciate it you mentioning our channel. I too have run into some high prices for totes, 50-100.00. Thinking of the bags also. Haven’t heard how many times most people get to use a log lift bag. I would think at least 5-7 years? Great video Dick. Glad Hose is doing well after surgery. He’s a great friend to have. Take care. Al

      Hi again Al. I don’t have a good feel for how long the bags will last. Time will tell!

    Thanks Dick. Watch his videos too. Energetic soul he is. Given me some good ideas. Usually just cut firewood for family. Years ago sold quite a bit. Still enjoy cutting it up. Take care, Earl

    My wife made a couple batches of your fire starters this week, our family loves them. Looking forward to your soy wax experiment! The Wall of Flame is certainly growing and nice results on the log lift bags.

    Cool vid. I just subbed. I’m a bag believer. I can’t get the totes for free. If I could, I would use them. But if you have to pay, then I think the bags are the way to go. Not as durable but saves tons of space when empty, and I’m not surprised by the moisture. I think what I’ve noticed is it seems to avoid surface moisture from rain so it helps in the drying. But I’m not a woodologist. The bags I noticed have helped my restaurant sales too, they like them delivered that way and it’s super convenient to them.

    That is surprising about the moisture content . I would be interested to see the moisture in an ibc tote with the same wood split the same time for comparison. I cant help but think the IBC tote has better air flow but the bag may have some solar heating effect that takes place .

    • @oldguyfirewood
      @oldguyfirewood  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I had the same thoughts about some sort of solar effect, maybe even a chimney effect of some sort.

    Good video 👍 I've seen the firewood bags and have wondered how they compare to totes and stacking. I've been around bulk bags before but not vented specifically for airflow.

    • @oldguyfirewood
      @oldguyfirewood  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I was presently surprised Lyle. I’m just afraid they may be harder to dump than the totes. My compact tractor doesn’t have a really high lift.

      Hello Frank. I’ve been working on assembling the mill in my spare time. Between the terribly written instruction manual and some fairly good TH-cam videos I’m making progress. Right now I’m waiting on a replacement part from Woodmizer. It hasn’t been a great experience so far, and I hope the actual operation of the mill will be better!

    Hey there Dick, continue to enjoy your videos. Keep them coming. Quick question. My kids have been after me for years to do videos. I work continuously on anything and everything. They say I am allergic to sitting still. Do you thi k it is worth the time and effort? Just one old wood hound to another. Mulling it over finally. Take care and as you say keep moving so we don't rust. Earl

    • @oldguyfirewood
      @oldguyfirewood  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks so much for watching Earl. I asked the same question to Chris, “In the Woodyard” 2 years ago. His reply “go for it”. I’d say the same to you. I’ll never get rich from the TH-cam revenue, but I feel like I’ve really hit the jackpot with the friends and fellowship I have developed in the woodhound community. A great community with great people.

    Great video, Dick! I know I passed a sticker onto you at the fellowship. If you need another one from me, I can drop it in the mail. My contact information is on my TH-cam channel page. I also have a comment regarding soy wax and your “secret” ingredient. I am not sure if they are going to be compatible. I know for certain my soy wax fire starters burn for a good 20 minutes just the way they are. I do not add any other ingredients because my smoking, barbecue and pizza oven customers use them to start their fires 🔥 and I like to keep them food-safe.
    Happy Easter….!!🐇🐣🐰

      I was pleasantly surprised with the results. That oak will be well below 20% by the end of the summer. Under a year is really good with oak.
