The reason Malenia is so prominent in the promotional material of this game is because she is the Goddess of Rot aka the poison swamps, she is Miyazaki's self-insert character

Fun fact: Malenia is the one who fought Radahn to a standstill in the desert and left him as a corpse eating beast as we find him. Was pretty cool you were able to defeat her using Radahn's swords.

The cursed Radahn, holding the weight of the stars on his shoulders, sleeps peacefully now, as the one who cursed him, is slain by his own design. Truly is poetic my friend.

@@contortionyx It's a glitch where when a bloodstain plays a death of someone dying while riding Torrent, the bloodstain-torrent technically counts as an entity so it dying gives you HP of an enemy dying. It's totally an oversight of some kind, probably because "yeah if multiplayer is active and a bloodstain specifically shows someone riding off a cliff with Torrent" doesn't sound that likely to come up in testing lol
Honestly thats the only way Rykards rune is worth it, if its patched it becomes the worst rune in the game

Considering the game fully endorses his ridiculous strategies (I still can't get over the man's ridiculous pathing in the first episode) it's also fully willing to match his absurdity blow for blow, I think the game kind of speaks his language. Between the pots, the snowmen, the Godskin bosses (between the fatsuit and the wacky wavy inflatable tube maneuver, I cannot take either seriously), the giant boulders, the giant _sentient_ boulders, and numerous other enemies, you can tell the devteam at Fromsoft got to have some fun with this game.
The incredible comedic timing of "...I escaped him" 0.2 seconds before being bombarded with laser beams, holy shit

Malenia was fucken ridiculous as a boss. I love her design but jesus christ the combinations of the speed, damage and her healing was nuts. Managed to get her using a maxed out mimic tear and flamberge for bleed. Well done RT, for beating her without needing that bleed cheese like I did lol.
I'm not discounting but mimic tear is generally considered kind of cheese. I personally don't care if people use it and I believe nobody else should care what others use. I didn't use it for my first playthrough cause that is just how I played Dark Souls 1-3. If you look deep enough almost every strategy is kind of cheese. Bleed, frost, heavy poise, magic, etc., which is why I'm not bothered by it.
Just kind of was annoying how I wanted ideas on how to avoid certain attacks but literally there was 0 videos of people doing the boss solo which made my solo run a "figure it out lul" against Malenia. Took me like 20 attempts to figure out how to dodge her spin slash move.
I can still respect the mimic tear, the boss isn't a complete pushover with it (if not using bleed lmao).
TL;DR: people can play how they want and everything in this game is cheese if you look deep enough.
Same here, except using Bloodhound Edge instead of Flamberge, with Pulley Crossbow and Bloodbone Bolts for spamming while she's doing the rot flower attack. And even then it took multiple tries. Honestly, my build has been kind of all over the place though, I didn't focus in the early game and never used the respec option to "fix" it. I never really did figure out how to deal with her Waterfowl Dance move in phase 2, I only beat her because she didn't use it on my final run.
@@cannedsquasher5923 Given her heal on hit thing using mimic tear is almost a downside. At the end of the day it came down to whether my mimic actually wanted to attack or just act like a health pack for her
I used the ruin great sword plus 10 and it took me 4 hours and I cried when I beat her easily the hardest boss (imo) of the whole souls series
She is very vulnerable to cold. I was playing faith/strenght and icy dragon breath was a life saver for me. Have to agree that she is ridiculously fast. It felt like Im fighting a Sekiro boss, not souls. Also she kinda destroys some build like mine that was oriented on absorbing damage with greatshield, cuz she heals A LOT even if you block 100% of her damage.
Dan is going to have nightmares where all he can hear is "I am Malenia. Blade of Miquella."
I adore Malenia’s great rune being “the Bloodborne mechanic,” because she really does remind me of Lady Maria!
Having been rewatching all his "souls" contend, Maria and Malenia do act alike. I love it, both where very cool fights
Shame it's probably the second worst and you can only use it on one or two bosses :/
Malenia is a boss that either you need to squish out every single mechanic in the game to beat her, or to cheese her into oblivion. But that is no necessarily bad since you earned that cheese through exploration and discovery.
Oh I just needed to master one: Parrying

My strat the first time was Rivers of Blood+ Mimic Tear, push her into a corner, and mash L2. It would work like 20% of the time
Oh yeah, since he spent the first 5 hours wandering Caelid on foot in the nude, he never actually found the Prattling Pates at the start of the game. Which is hilarious, since that makes his first one a pate that most people completely skip over, in an already secret side area.
Haha I was wondering why his reaction to another Pate was so much, like surely My Beloved is meant to be one of the last Pates you ever find xD
Fun fact: the mimic tear will copy all the items on your quick bar so if you stack it with consumables that grant useful buffs like exalted flesh it will make your copy a lot stronger.

Yeah, Niall and Chris O'Neil are some hard bosses until you realize you can fight and cheese one on horseback, and can dodge to the left with the other

When I was fighting Malenia In my own game, I always felt so sluggish after every attempt. Like I really was being consumed by the Scarlet Rot.

Fun Fact: Malenia infected Radahn with the Scarlet Rot, driving him insane in the process. Basically making it so he only runs on pure instinct. He was actually a really sweet guy, he was just trying to fight against the rot.
Radahn's knights seem to be among the few humans with purpose in the post-shattering world. They're trying to protect their home from the scarlet rot.
They're not succeeding.
She gave him scarlet rot because pre rot Radahn was bodying her right?
@@oscarpines7927 Pretty much, Malenia realised she couldn't win against Radahn so she nuked Caelid with Scarlet Rot. And after all of that, she just ended getting a draw, not even a win against Radahn which just further enhance how much of a badass Radahn is
And in a way RT helped Radahn get revenge by beating Melania with his swords
Radahn is such a chad that even when insane he held back an world ending cosmic threat. Malenia is lucky he didn't decide to drop some cosmic nukes on her in their fight.

@anter I thought that at first, but after having learned the fight more after many attempts, she doesn't feel ass bullshit. You just gotta know when to cut your losses and block and just let her heal a bit.
I dont use a shield, nor summons. Making stuff like that requiered in order to beat a boss is just bad design.
Fun Fact: Rykard's rune saying two different effects is actually a secret reference to the original Dark Souls, where the effect of the Tiny Being's ring is wrongly told to you when you're picking a starting gift.
I said this watching the VOD a while back but Rykard's full fight was absolutely mesmerising. My jaw was dropped throughout the entire thing. I even had to rewatch the fight since I didn't even realise he spawned Terry. Renalla's was beautiful, Radahn's was glorious, but Rykard... Damn. If I had a better pc I'd get this game Solely to fight him myself. Wp Fromsoft

To be fair to rt talking about how hidden the goddess of rot is. her being hidden is absolutely worth it. It feels insane to discover this shit on your own and find this absolutely wild boss who absolutely curb stomps your ass into hell.
I am not gonna lie, rt was my biggest motivator for beating the lord of rot. To the point i dropped all concept of using co-op and just used my mimic, with the key thing in my head being "if that chucklefuck can beat her with 2 unga bunga blades and a rereleased tod howard, i can certainly beat her...after enough deaths."
I beat her ass with spectral slash spam and tiche. Tiche solely for staggering Malenia out of her combos
If someone is struggling with Loretta, in the church by the left on the secret map you get a shield which blocks 89% magical damage making it the best shield against all her magic attacks.
Malenia was an absolute incredible fight. It felt so incredibly satisfying to get the dodge timings down for her attacks, and learning that you can either dodge through her Waterfowl Dance (the "anime" move), or let her heal herself but block the damage with an upgraded shield. While the healing feels cheap at first, she also has almost no poise, and a pretty shallow base HP pool. The phase 2 amps it up to 11, but, at least for me, it never felt unfair. All of her moves are extremely telegraphed (when her prosthetic hand sparks she's doing a heavy attack, for example), and the timings aren't super staggered like some of the other bosses; plus sometimes instead of doing Waterfowl Dance when she goes airborne she can choose to do the downslam into a small rot explosion, which is so incredibly easy to avoid.
Congrats on beating her!
Barricade Shield is a godsend. If you have a poker you can out damage the heal while taking no damage.
Try this boss dealing melee 500 damage max per attack, no shield, no parry, no summons, and only dodge roll for evasion and you'll experience how absolutely rng dependant this boss becomes with her waterfowl dance. Run away for the first flurry, dodge into the start of the second flurry and the third flurry is actual rng even when dropping the lock-on and rolling. Its probably one of the worst spammable boss moves I've ever seen in the fromsoft souls games
@@Lucky_Limes 9 days late but you can actually roll through all of the attack, there are just extremely specific timings
@@guppysam If that is the case then I will still say that her waterfowl is a bull crap move. Reason being is that if you're point blank melee and you swing at her and begin your recovery frames, if she jumps up to do waterfowl that becomes instant death since you won't have enough time to precisely roll during your recovery frames.
@@Lucky_Limes nah she actually does give enough time to recover if youre hitting her before she jumps, id know im running a str build rn and the only times i get caught in it is when i greed and try to hit her mid air since i confuse it with the lunge

RT is probably the most entertaining streamer & TH-camr playing this game right now. Like there are some impeccable any% runs happening by Distortion. Fucking No Hit runs are absolutely bonkers already. ….
But RT? Spends over 2 hours of the beginning of the game doing everything backwards and is just pure insanity…..but still becomes this ultra bad ass player character.

Tbh he's the only one who seems to be having fun, and also makes the stream fun. Critical's batshit crazy exploits for example are neat, but that's it. There's no challenge. I need 20%-30% of the playthrough to be shenanigans lol

I’m impressed that RT managed to beat Farnese.. I mean Malenia, that early. I saw everyone leaving her for last because it’s said that she is the hardest boss in the game. (For the ones that don’t know, Farnese is a Berserk character and Malenia helmet is a reference to her. All the souls games have references to Berserk since it’s inspired by it. R.I.P. Miura)

Unfortunately, she lacked one critical element. Being Brazilian.
The second I saw how Malenia fought I could feel it in my bones that you needed to dodge-roll though her attack and get behind her just like you would in Bloodborne. That her Rune gave you Bloodborne mechanics to fight with just proved it to me.
I love watching people fight Melania. Many are even calling her one of, if not the hardest Soulsbourne boss, marginally beating OoK. The pride and relief of actually beating Melania is incredible, and the song that plays when phase two starts, omg
I feel much less bad about using the mimic on melenia, beat every boss in the game with out summons (except repeats) but melenia broke me.

RT should really use more magic, it’s insane in this game. Heck I just want to see him react to some of the more powerful spells

I wouldn't mind seeing him use magic, but I doubt it'll happen with his current character. It's not impossible since he can use the larval tears for respecc, but I think he likes the big swords a lot more.
Maybe for a future stream, he could do a magic run because it is a VASTLY different experience.

After beating Radagon and married his daughter, Todd Howard re-spec into magic build to be able to use the moon greatsword he got from his now-wife and cast moon-themed sorceries and some other random spells.
Suffice to say it didn't go well...
Maybe he'll respec again on the next stream, or go on with his magic build just for the lulz

Malenia is such a fantastic boss. The music is beautiful, the cutscenes leading into each part of the fight are really cool with her attaching her arm. Even the arena looks great.
Plus her designs in both phases are absolutely stunning. The wings in phase two look amazing.

The fact that you beat Malenia with General Radahn swords really is some poetic justice. For those who don't know the story of the game, Radahn was pretty much the ''Big Good'' in the Elden Ring world who was keeping a world-ending threat at bay until he and Malenia fought in the desert. Then Malenia, when she realized that she couldn't beat him, just nuked him with scarlet rot and left. The rot then made Radahn go insane and feral.
I think the "my beloved" item is just the game trying to help us cope after being called maidenless
When we beat the Boss in the Crypt, a wave of relief just washed over chat and Dan because we kept coming back to it and couldn't kill it for the life of us
I straight up had a Princess Mononoke "you're beautiful" moment when I first saw Malenia's fight, she's genuinely a gorgeous design and a tragic character. it just sucks that her difficulty made her hated by a good 60% of players...
She also drove Radahn to insanity with the scarlet rot, probably didn't earn her any favor seeing how beloved he is lol
"You will witness true horror" is the scariest and most powerful thing i've ever heard lol
Just FYI the heal bug was specifically the mounts dying in the replay, not the players lol.
At 17:20 when he said that it was like a Pokémon fight then killed the boss himself after his Pokémon died I immediately thought “wow this is the Pokémon legends arceus of dark souls games”

It took me over 40 attempts to beat Malenia. She’s definitely the hardest boss in Elden Ring. Maybe even top 5 in all of Souls.

@@WileeCoyote1516 Isshin, like most Sekiro bosses, is possible to memorize and do in your sleep. Maybe the same applies to Malenia, but she has those cheesy poise dashes that beat out slower weapons, numerous ways to catch rolls, and it's entirely visually unclear how to roll her Waterfowl Dance.
If anything, I struggled with the dream Owl (Father) more, that guy is just scummy.

I find it odd that Malenia(Blade of Miquella) has never known defeat, yet she's basically stuck in a tree, has lost all but one arm and half a leg, and is so scarred up she can strip and still not be considered indecently nude.
Those must have been some... interesting victories.

@@jackwhite2654 it's fair to assume that she considers death to be a defeat. she may have lost most of her limbs and been disfigured by the Rot, but she didn't die and therefore hadn't been defeated.
The implication is also that Radahn was about to defeat her, but she was so terrified of losing any bit of her pride that she instead released the rot within her(the thing that was eating away at her flesh and scarred her so, not actual battle scars), plaguing half the world in rot and leaving her enemy nothing but a husk. Her greatest “victory” was actually the biggest L for anyone.
