That's what I thought. I'd rather have a warning and know it's not been checked for backwards compatibility than just not be able to play it outright. Seems like a bit of a non issue.
Thats actually not true, there is two type of warnings in the PS Store. The one you are talking about is the one that just says you may need to update your console to run the game. The warning they discuss in the video is one that says "you may encounter graphical issues" running this game, go check in the store Doom Eternal and Sleeping Dogs as shown in the video show a different warning than most games.

I stopped playing Ghost of Tsushima until i get PS5. That game is the best ive played in many years and to experience that in 60fps is going to be incredible.
No disrespect but I felt people buying Ghost and Last of us 2 early this year to me aren't that bright or didn't think about that ps5 was coming in the same year. I never played both because I said people will be pissed because they got a half assed experience while I am going to play both in 4k 60fps for the first time. Why buy a game when the current console can't lock 60fps and the ps5 can? I don't understand the logic not waiting months for a good experience.
@@thedarksideoftheforce6658 it was a fantastic experience and still is because of the online coop but I mean sure not everyone has such an elitist mindset, I don't have to rebuy ghost when I get a ps5 anyway so it's a pretty dumb thing to say really if you haven't even played it lol
@@thedarksideoftheforce6658 Well until 4 weeks ago we had no idea it was a possibility. The devs just announced it was supported. And we dont know if its going to be native 4K, just 60fps through game boost.
Was really hoping you'd discuss dynamic resolution games. Particularly, games that had a maximum of 4K and usually ran lower than that on the Pro. I think Assassin's Creed Origins is a good example.
Any game that has a dynamic resolution will always run at the upper bounds of the limit. Say if a game on PS4 Pro ran at 4k dynamic res, as in that was the maximum res but it dropped frequently on current-gen hardware to maintain frame-rate. On the PS5 it will most likely run at a locked 4k.
@@MMTT7sALd That's different because they went back and patched the game to make it run at a locked 60fps in the campaign as well. It never ran at a locked 60fps on the Xbone X. Not even close. Any un-patched game that originally had a dynamic resolution or unlocked frame-rate will automatically run at the highest settings without any additional work.
I feel like the warning is because they haven't fully tested those games to verify they run fine. There will probably be several that need firmware patches to correct small issues.

@@lordbandi9804 Lucky. I'm getting the PS5. I wasn't able to get a XSX pre-order as well. I focused on PS5 first as I'm more of a PS and Nintendo guy, but I'm hyped for the XSX as well. PS5 though, man, I'm hyped to hell and back for Demon's Souls.
It's for this very reason that I have held off buying and playing a number of PS4 titles. I want 60FPS (get a PC, I know) that's locked and the last gen was wildly inconsistent in that area. Looks like I'll be picking up some older, cheaper titles once I get my hands on PS5. :)
I skipped the "Pro" generation because I knew, based on specs, it was a waste of money. The CPU bottleneck was so obvious and so many people bought into it. I instead put my money into PC gaming and have not regretted it, except that I chose to go with ibuypower instead of building my own and could have saved money/paid the same and had a better GPU and memory. I'll be waiting to move into this next console generation and upgrading my PC instead, personally. However, eventually, I'll need 3 PS5's. The life of a gaming family.
Same here, by the time I had enough money to buy the games I wanted I figured I might as well wait for next gen. So here I come God of war, spiderman and ghost of tsushina
1 year later its great to see that most games on my wish list got the 60fps treatment ON PS5, especially horizon zero dawn, uncharted 4 & lost legacy. It would be fantastic if Sony went the extra mile & offered ps5 owners a similar fps boost mode, like Microsoft has with the series X. It's a great bonus for XSX owners as the list of fps boosted games is impressive. Being able to play so many older games with a 60/120 fps boost is nice as I own a series X too. Well done Microsoft! 💯❤😁👍🙏
I agree, I so wish I could play Prey (2017) at 60fps on PS5, but that's only available on consoles on the Series X/S with FPS boost. I can't go back to 30fps but Prey is one of my favorite games of all time
@@Eddycut no, not that I'm aware of anyways. They also don't support 4k, 120fps, or utilize fast loading using the SSD. @Cesar Ponte if you're talking about 120 fps dont expect it anywhere else other than pacman games, even on the Xbox series X. Doesnt really matter anyway, if a game has a solid 60 fps you won't be able to tell the difference even if it were to play at a 120 fps.
Wtf? Sony started back compat to begin with, you must be new to Gaming. PS2 & 3 both had it, PS4 didn't because of crap hardware unable to emulate PS3 bespoke CELL Broadband Engine. PS5 simply emulates the console in question clocks, it was designed to do this, Bluepoint Games inadvertently revealed they got original Demon Souls game running on PS5 and then they rebuilt the current game on the original game timings. Sony isn't saying much because it's better to stay quiet until everything is in place. People will be surprised but PS5 can run all PlayStation titles, what do you think is powering PS Now? No chance they are still using those old 40nm Cell chips, too hot and cost ineffective. They had to migrate that to something current and built for future streaming. I'm case you missed what I said, Bluepoint Games had a PS3 title running on PS5. Yes PS5 can run PS3 titles, Sony probably won't do it since there isn't a market there, but it can do so.
You guys do some great work and this compilation of game analysys was no exception! The way that TH-cam is structured by taking the amount of a video watched by the user doesn't promote comprehensive videos of this nature since most will skip through and check for the games they're interested in and maybe a handful of others for comparison sake. Despite this, you guys still put together an in-depth and comprehensive list of games for your test and dive into how each of them differ from their base versions. I appreciate all this!
After seeing your analysis on the Xbox Series X BC I hoped that PS5 would be similar. I am relieved and happy that it is identical. I was worried Sony's radio silence meant it wouldn't be as good.
Sounds like the PS4 games getting the warning are just one's that weren't test, so it is more of a general disclaimer just in case things don't work well.
People should keep in mind that Ps5 hitting that 60 fps, while ps4 pro gets only about 40 in some games is cool and all, but 60 fps is the limit. If the framerate would have been unlocked it could be like 70-80 fps or higher. Really hope to see some patches for ps4 games to utilize full power of Ps5 in the near future.
I'm looking forward to getting a PS5 and I'm hoping to pick one up at the end of December/beginning of January. One of my reasons for getting one was that I thought of upgrading from my PS4 to a PS4 pro but with the new PlayStation console coming out soon, it made more sense to get a PS5 instead. It's just a shame that the local backwards compatability doesn't extend to OG PlayStation, PS2 and PS3 games. In the meantime I'll look forward to playing games on my Xbox Series X when it arrives on Tuesday.
On the gamexplain review, you can see that there is a ps3 section on the psn store. So, it looks like the system is getting them at some point. it could just be for psnow too.
You guys should've tested the unlocked frame rate mode in God of War 4. The CPU in PS4 Pro (Jaguar) struggles the most in Midgard. I wanted to see that badly.
@@MrInuhanyou123 do you know if anyone has tested persona 5? been tryna look for that, although i doubt they would have unlocked the frame rate in the game, but hey a guy can dream
I held off on new game plus as well. I love that game so much and I knew I wanted to play it again. Just with the ps5 around the corner, I was like yeah, let’s see how they optimize it. Absolutely perfect and I can’t wait
GoingGreninja yeah, probably. there is after all the risk of compatibility. different hardware could throw over your optimization. that's why i think sony themselves didn't sound too confident at times, rather talking about either "top 100 games" or "some games might not work" just as a warning in case. but seriously a lot of warnings we saw in games since years feel more mandatory "in case" to save them from possible lawsuits or other stuff.
Interesting, so the PS5 actually performs better in the majority of these selected tests due to the lower target resolutions on the PS4 Pro version and the use of checkerboarding. Hopefully, Microsoft look into games like Sekiro and adjust the resolution accordingly to smooth out those dips. Going forward into next gen, games need to utilise dynamic resolution scaling as much as possible. The 60fps target is more important than slight dips in resolution during expensive scenes.
@@Retro_Gamer_89 they just brush it off because it’s a “matter of fact” feature. I’ll just tell them that going through 2 generations without backwards compatibility (360 had very limited BC , and PS3 removed it for cost) makes these solutions look SOOO much better in comparison.
For myself its xboxs quick resume feature. The ability to quickly and easily take a break from some intense multiplayer. I've longed for this feature for years 🥰
Well I guess I’ll be going back & finishing some of PS4 games with the performance boost of the PlayStation 5. I didn’t expect it to work that great on PlayStation 5!
I’m not as technically sound as some people on here. If my main concern was stunning graphics/visuals and speed, which console of the two would be better?
@R S if you have a good pc get PS5. If you will get the other in a year or two get PS5. If no to those look at the exclusives you will like better with the knowledge that bethesda games will probably be exclusive to game pass going forward.
@Justin Franklin the series x is more powerful in paper...in action is weaker and this video proves it...sekiro, monster hunter world even hitman 2 cannot have locked 60fps (more like 50-60)on series x ,meanwhile on ps5 i didnt see a single drop.
@@Blintedhaa No they do not need patches to run faster. Most will run faster unpatched. Games that haven't been fully tested, or games where developers have specifically flagged that the game needs to run no faster than PS4 will be like that. The vast majority of BC games will be able to take advantage of the faster hardware in some sense, even if it's just faster load times and more consistent frame rate, even if there's a 30fps cap.
Currently moppoing up games I missed this gen before PS5 comes out (or I will get one), I guess Killzone Shadowfall will be the last game I play on PS4...
And me, Monster Hunter World. IIRC, the Performance mode in there has unlocked framerate, but rarely goes past 30-something. Though I suspect this is a game that may get something extra later via patch - like the high-res textures from PC or at the very least uncapped framerate on the Resolution mode too.
@@50Personas Sadly Capcom is closing the updates of MHW, i doubt they work on a next gen patch for a game without more updates, it runs 60fps in resolution mode inSeries X so is not full needeed.
Now all we need is, Patches to unlock the frame rate and resolution. because ps5 obviously runs at ps4 pro legacy mode, this means it will run how the ps4 pro actually ran example: ps5 can technically play hitman at Dynamic 4k 60 but ps4 pro ran at 1440p, so this means ps5 gonna run at 1440p, so game developers need a patch to unlock the code.
It's not 4K 60fps. It's 1800p checkerboarded. They said so in the video for Hitman 2. Hitman 3 will run better for PS5 as Sony doesn't natively support backwards compatible games like the Xbox does, it's a pseudo emulation. Not true emulation as it is running on hardware but not as a pure substitute like the Xbox. It's why Sony expects bugs in some games while Microsoft seems to claim zero. Hitman 2 was running as emulating PS4 so like emulators on PC you can force up performance but you are still limited by the headroom for said emulation. Why BotW, a game that should easily hit 4K 60fps on GTX 1060 barely runs 30fps. There is a hit from doing such but it is easier to program. I think Microsoft went the other way as they intend the Xbox to be constantly replace. Not like how we had the One X, but every 3 years we just get a new Xbox similar to every 2 years PC users get new GPUs and CPUs. It would make sense then as they need to carry those games for the long run while Sony is still going be the normal "generation" system. Obviously Microsoft won't tell us that yet but it is something to watch. Plus it does match their current stance on buying their systems.
@@MihovilMandic It ran Demon's Souls at native 1440p back during the first gameplay trailer. DF said it themselves at 2:36 on there video detailing it.
@@icaruswindrune7116 it's likely upscaled 1080p, because Sony officially stated the console only renders at 1080p, 4k and potentially 8k where it can. No API support for rendering 1440p
FFVII R is locked at 30 fps, unfortunately. However, the resolution is dynamic. So the resolution should now be locked to its upper bound. That said considering FFVII is a multi-part game I wouldn't be surprised that the game gets a patch soon considering they even recently got a patch.
It's just because the last generation architecture and the "next"gen architecture is basically using standard PC components. This makes backwards compatibilty very easy. Whereas the PS3 had a very exotic hardware architecture making backwards compatiblity neigh impossible (and expensive). That's the reason they claimed it was not important.

Sound like the devs are just covering their arses with these warnings.
Most likely. These games are gonna run fine and if they don't for whatever reason, this warning is there for those people.
@@Gendor64 Agreed.

@LKaheeros [Bruno Utech] And?
No worries, fsr 3 is on the way so it will help a lot for 60 fps

Backwards compatibility is my favorite bonus feature this generation. Playing old games with better graphics and performance is so satisfying.
Fact too bad a lot of people don't see it that way smh
@@Retro_Gamer_89 they just brush it off because it’s a “matter of fact” feature. I’ll just tell them that going through 2 generations without backwards compatibility (360 had very limited BC , and PS3 removed it for cost) makes these solutions look SOOO much better in comparison.

Well I guess I’ll be going back & finishing some of PS4 games with the performance boost of the PlayStation 5. I didn’t expect it to work that great on PlayStation 5!
No matter what console you’re getting, you’ll be getting a great experience.
I’m not as technically sound as some people on here. If my main concern was stunning graphics/visuals and speed, which console of the two would be better?
@Justin Franklin well said.
@@RS-ti7bz do yourself a favor and buy ps5 with closed eyes
If you see that warning, I'm sure it just means Sony hasn't fully tested that game yet.
No it means wait for a patch if I remember correctly.
@@one_up907 Games don't need patches for BC
@@AndyGilleand Yes, if you want faster loading, higher framerate or higher resolution. Unpatched bc games will run exactly as the PS4/PS4Pro ran them.

Rdna 2 wasn't out yet
Dang, was hoping to see The Last Guardian in here! Great video still :p
I wanted to see Until Dawn. Guess we will have to wait for the next video focussing on exclusives
Now all we need is, Patches to unlock the frame rate and resolution.
because ps5 obviously runs at ps4 pro legacy mode, this means it will run how the ps4 pro actually ran
example: ps5 can technically play hitman at Dynamic 4k 60 but ps4 pro ran at 1440p, so this means ps5 gonna run at 1440p, so game developers need a patch to unlock the code.
PS5 doesn't run anything at 1440p. The drivers don't support it natively, only 1080p and 4K.
@@MihovilMandic It ran Demon's Souls at native 1440p back during the first gameplay trailer. DF said it themselves at 2:36 on there video detailing it.
Drivers can be updated
@@icaruswindrune7116 it's likely upscaled 1080p, because Sony officially stated the console only renders at 1080p, 4k and potentially 8k where it can. No API support for rendering 1440p

FFVII R is locked at 30 fps, unfortunately. However, the resolution is dynamic. So the resolution should now be locked to its upper bound. That said considering FFVII is a multi-part game I wouldn't be surprised that the game gets a patch soon considering they even recently got a patch.
Back compat is useless they said!! Today: we want, we love back compat.
Ironic
they?
@@dochedgehog yes sony once said if i remember correctly
I think the reasons they did it was because it as realatively easy for them to implement plus how popular the PS4 was.
