    I am dealing with this exact situation right now. I should have watched this video before I put my walls up. You live and you learn. I have a 72' Scotty for more practice once I learn what to do on my 70' Scotty. Great videos! You explain things so well and show novice rebuilders like me how to do things right. Kudos for your great videos. Keep them coming!!!! Have a wonderful day.

    Rob, why not screw on a 2x2 on the bottom of the plywood sides before installing them? That way it would hold it to the exact height to screw it in without struggling to hold it? I also wonder they didn’t do that from the factory and just leave it? I know there’s probably 100 reasons but I can’t understand why? Thanks

      That is a good guide if your frame is square.

    Use masking or painters tape to get the offset consistent run it along the inside of the line layed out

    The templet and determining the correct interior size is a good idea. Since I have a background in auto parts and detailing. I'd like to point out the importance of choosing the correct undercoat. Rubberized undercoats tend to harden and crack over time. Thus letting moisture into the cracks. Not a good choice for under body applications. Unless your like some and are worrying about carefully inspecting things constantly. Get Real! How many of us actually do it.

    • @RobTheRebuilder
      @RobTheRebuilder  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've seen fifty year old trailers with undercoating that look great. I have also seen fifty year old trails with bare wood that look great. I appreciate your input and will look into it.

      What would you recommend instead of rubberized undercoating?

    • @kenalbright3622
      @kenalbright3622 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@autumn4191 One choice would be using chip guard. Like used on the rocker panels and lower parts of the body.

    Really enjoying your camper resto videos Rob. I'm here at home in bed recovering from double pneumonia and it's given me something to do and learn about as I hope to do this one day. A question I have is would it have been better to undercoat the wood subfloor and metal frame separately from one another? It seems that you couldn't completely spray the top of the metal frame that was in contact with the bottom of the wood subfloor above it. Cheers mate!

    • @RobTheRebuilder
      @RobTheRebuilder  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I usually spray the top of the frame before I add the floor.

      @@RobTheRebuilder I thought you might have but had to ask. You're in a great location to find these old campers. I'm from the Adirondacks of upstate NY and they wouldn't survive the long winters here.

    I just got a 64 Forester for $400 and after removing interior walls and seeing the water damage quickly realized I'm probably way in over my head 😭 I've been watching a lot of ur videos and have learned a lot. My question is if my walls are framed with insulation and skin am I able to replace with just plywood walls like in this video?

    what grade of plywood did you use for the side walls, specifically for the interior side of the plywood, A or B?

    • @RobTheRebuilder

      1/2" sanded plywood is all it is called at HD

    • @charleskahle5757
      @charleskahle5757 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@RobTheRebuilder Thanks Rob. In looking at the HD website, they have a B/C sanded plywood, which I assume means B on one side and C on the other. They also have a 'cabinet grade panel', which from the questions section appears to be A/B. Sounds like you probably used B on the inside, which is what I was thinking to use. I plan to buy mine at Menards, and luckily they are more straightforward in marking their plywood than HD is!
