You didn't even mention the gang tackling. I suppose Madden has sort of implemented it, but 2K5 did it so well. Animations were ahead of their time in 2K5.
Yeah I thought about including that in the list but madden sortof has it...granted they added it 5 years after 2k and them it went away again and now it's back but not as good
This game was next level, I spent countless hours editing music clips for my home games, trying the historic moments over and over until I did them all, looking at milestones and awards to win and fill the walls of my trophy room, and running up scores in some games because I really needed to complete my Eagles bar set. They just don't make games like they used to, it's mostly the licensing but it is also the Madden community continuing to accept a mediocre copy and paste game year after year.

I am still playing PS2 era football games. I am a franchise/create a team player. We haven't had any actual depth to this mode in over a decade. MUT or bust. It awesome that there is a large modding community for the old games that update rosters, uniforms, stadiums etc. The only trouble I have with 2k5 is the salary cap in franchise, there have been many times that I had to just start over because I could not afford enough players to continue.
I remember when 2k came out with a NFL game. Me and a buddy played the hell outta it. Had features like halftime report with boom talking about other games man.
The crib is so satisfying. Being incentivized for getting better at the game just makes you want to keep playing. Having a trophy room should have become the standard in sports games.
I think the problem is that people are a mixed bag. A lot of people wanna jump straight into the action. Others want to do this scheming stuff. Regardless, it'd certainly be nice to have 2K making simulation football games again. I see them being an alternative for a more football-minded playerbase. An alternative for those who want to scheme and essentially role play as a coach.

I live in Orlando and work for a certain gaming company and here's the reality of the situation: The NFL has let EA buy the Madden license for over 20 years, and the game has sucked almost every single year. The NFL doesn’t care about quality as long as they get paid trust me I've heard them say it. Back in 2020, EA paid $1.5 billion to renew the license for five more years (through 2025). Out of that, $1 billion went straight to the NFL, $500 million went to the players, and EA even committed another $500 million to marketing. So basically, the NFL gets their massive payday upfront, and EA has to worry about selling the game to recoup their money. The NFL just takes the check and moves on. For this to change, someone would have to offer the NFL an even bigger bag of money, or fans would need to boycott Madden so hard that the NFL starts feeling it in their reputation or bottom line. Right now, though, Madden keeps selling, so why would the NFL care? They’ve already been paid. The only other way I see it changing is if EA absolutely dropped the ball even worse than they already have, or if another company brought something so innovative that the NFL couldn’t ignore it. But for now, exclusivity is just too easy for the NFL-they get their billions upfront, let EA handle everything, and have zero risk. Until fans stop buying or someone comes along with a better deal, we’re stuck with this broken cycle.
I have been playing a bit of Madden 24 franchise and there are soooo many little bugs and glitches. Just a very unpolished experience. The game prompts me EVERY TIME I start it up that I'm not connected to EA servers, don't care playing offline, and that my "trial period" has expired. I can play as normal but the game doesn't even know that??? I'm playing it through my gamepass subscription so I didn't really buy the game and I'm glad. Most definitely not buying any Madden game anytime soon.
Look, just play college ball, its what I do now, I gave up on Madden years ago. Thank God student athletes xan actually accept money now for use of likeness & what not. Awesome. I do miss playing as Joe Burrow, but I can always create him and put him on the OSU or LSU roster. Imagine if he would've never left OSU. He only left because of QB1.
If I were in charge at EA and anybody on my team mentioned anything about improving the game I would fire them. Idiots buy the same game every year and it still makes a major profit. It would be dumb business to change it. McDonalds has sold trash for almost 50 years now.
The franchise features were nice on paper, but they added nothing to the acrual gameplay. and I personally found the crib worfhless. This is coming from a huge fan of the series.
I see a lot of classic sports games at retro gaming stores and it definitely makes me sad how good we had it when sports games were actually good. Anyone remember the NFL Street and NBA Street games? So much fun and goofyness.

Great video! As great of a game 2k5 is 2K will never be able to recreate everything that made it great. If the exclusive license with ea ended and 2k were allowed to make another nfl game it would be heavily focused on MyTeam, the franchise mode no where near as deep, would be patched and hotfixed to death. It would just be a lazy ,uninspired microtransaction nightmare just like every Madden and about 85% of all games
Ppl forget how deep 2k actually is. I stopped playing park 3 years ago and never played Myteam but I get it every year because 2k has the best and most Deep franchise mode of any sports game and it’s not even close. MyEra plus deep creation and customization gives 2k the win everytime. Also gameplay 2k actually cares about realism and trying to make it feel simulation, blending animations, having different outcomes to the same animations so it doesn’t start to feel like every player plays the same. I just feel like 2k would put more effort into the base game before actually going crazy with the microtransactions. I know for a fact 2k will get “the yard” right and we’ll actually have like a 7on7 mode or whatever and it’ll actually be fun because Madden failed miserably. I remember being excited about that mode idea till I played it 😂
exactly. I understand 2k has horrible predatory pricing and microtransactions if you're an online gamer. but their myEra, myCareer and myGM modes are so incredibly deep you can't possibly put enough time into all 3 of them. gameplay is always on point and presentation is being improved. its like you can tell the devs over there are passionate about basketball. Im not sure EA devs care about football
It’s insane how of all of the us major sports the only one based off the biggest sport in the country is substantially worse then literally every other one
It's the little things in Madden that eventually become a thousand cuts. One example that's always bothered me is the inability to set your preseason schedule, much less any schedule. As a Dolphins fan, we hold a very special rivalry with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Miami has played Tampa every preseason since 1991 and almost always since the Bucs joined the league in 1976. But not in Madden. For years now, you only get that match-up in season one. Then, for some reason, the Bucs were swapped out [for quite a few Maddens] for the Giants??? My point is that this to me is lazy, immersion breaking, and highlights the big flaw that you're not allowed to customize the game to tell your story.
If Madden copied 2K5 verbatim, and called it Madden 26, people will still say it's trash. Nobody is ever gonna like this game anymore , not because its bad, because everyone says its bad. The marketing dept at EA is the G.O.A.Ts. of tom foolery. Millions of people will still buy this game, regardless of it's shortcomings. Consumers should agree to take a couple of years off, for the betterment of sports gaming. Then, we' d see changes.
Ppl would not call it trash. Ea has always been like this whatever game they make. They always make less changes and downgrade what past games did. Starwars battlefront and any sports games. People only buy the game because its the only football game available.
But it is bad. It's using an engine from 9 years ago that was never made for football, there's no competition, and there's literally 80 missing features.
The last Madden game I owned was 2006. I'm that guy in his 30s that actually like QB Vision and didn't want to go back. Well, eventually it just became that the franchise was absolute trash, as are most licensed sports games these days tbh. These devs have NO idea how to make the feel of the game intuitive to actually playing IMO, and the features (or lack thereof) are lame. Give me a modded Madden 2006 or NFL 2K5 with modern rosters any day over Madden 25.
Calling a motion from a bigger WR, or the edge TE and snapping the balls just as he gets infront of the guy he has the block is just 🤌🏻🤌🏻🤌🏻 so organic and realistic feeling running the ball in this game
It really sucks That as video game hardware has gotten immensely better the sports genre has almost disappeared. I can't imagine what sports games would be if we got to see them climb at the same rate that 1st person shooters and open world games did
Why haven't we, the players, managed to file an class action lawsuit against EA Sports for violating antitrust laws and creating a monopoly. Among all of us who have suffered as a result of the exclusivity deal EA has with the NFL, both 2K and Madden fans, I would imagine there has to be enough proof to justify legal action, i.e. Depression, Diminished Quality of Life, Irritability and Anxiety regarding the quality of the product or the experience while using the monopolized product, etc. We the people are bound to have more power than we think....the real pain is finding the lawyer to do it....I think.
true. as a company why would you change when your revenue is looking good? thats why I preach dont buy the game. they dont care if reviews suck as long as the money keeps coming in
I'd say they're still innovative. myEra in 2k and the City are both awesome concepts. the problem with 2k is everything is riddled with microtransactions
100% could you imagine if we had that for football? 2k could provide us with a myEra mode like basketball. the 70's, 80's, 90's, 00's etc. there's just so much being left on the table we arent getting as football fans
@@WildLionGames, as nice it could be, won't happen. The roster size each team is too large and to get everyone to sign off would be. That's why historically teams have gone away because of player likeness lawsuits in late 2000's in football games

$20 lol
Been waiting on news for that new nfl 2k arcade title 4+ years now
But Madden has Boomtech, lol
Thank you. I love these videos! Just like many people said, this is the greatest NFL game of all time! :)
thank you!! and yeah....2k5 is still the GOAT
Latest Madden update ruined the game. Midgame in Superstar Mode or any other mode and you get a crash back to desktop without an error. I am fed up with this game now.
You didn't even mention the gang tackling. I suppose Madden has sort of implemented it, but 2K5 did it so well. Animations were ahead of their time in 2K5.
Yeah I thought about including that in the list but madden sortof has it...granted they added it 5 years after 2k and them it went away again and now it's back but not as good
Good video bro!
thank you I appreciate it
Great content bro. Agree with everything you said today.
02-09 was the golden age of video game football
1. Fluff
2. More fluff
3. Even more fluff
4. Guess what? Yup
5. The fluffiest of fluff.
Nothing that adds to Madden at all in fact these things just make the game take longer to play and time is already shirt for adults with jobs who don't want to take an hour per game.
I remember praying this game for hours... one of the hardest football games ive ever played passing was challenging and running the ball was challenging... i loved the 1st person view but man was it hard playing in that view
Man if only this game and 2k8 all pro can be played on the new consoles Madden would've been forced to put out a good game because nobody wouldn't be playing Madden
Adding your own music to play at specific parts of the game was the coolest thing ever. I definitely took the time to edit tracks already downloaded on my xbox. You could also listen to your custom music in the crib. 2k was better than madden for sure
Almost teared up watching this..... this game was beautiful
Marvin Harrison with the 100 overall damn! That dude was tough.
Like a lot of people, I absolutely loved this game as a teenager. They even made fantastic NBA 2k games too
EA sports need to give it up man. From the gameplay, to the customization, to the accessories, it’s just not it. Got people that prolly never even played football fr developing a simulation football game. Don’t even know the nuances & the minor details of the sport.
I wonder the same thing sometimes. There's no way those devs played football beyond pop warner
@@WildLionGamesYou’re right .. prolly why we get Pop Warner animations lol
Dear Lord that 2K5 franchise mode is incredible
Last Madden I liked was Madden 11. Even then Madden was on the decline but it was still playable. I feel like somewhere in 2016 it fell off.
NFL 2K5 was such a beast. It's still casting a shadow on Madden 20 year's later
The Crib was amazing 🔥
just fired it up after like 18 years. definition of ahead of its time
true that. It's STILL so fluid on the gameplay side of things
So what I learned was 2k5 has a PC version I could be playing and the modding scene keeps its roster up to date?
That would be correct
@@WildLionGames Gonna research when I get home cause while I'm still on madden 23, that game makes me so mad with its cheating ass.
10:46 madden 10 plays a good franchise too, really fun when u pick jags
This looks so fun. I might need to break out the ps2
do it!! I just downloaded the roster mods and its awesome
@@WildLionGames how'd you do that?
@@sethcostello3941 nfl2kmod.com and 2k5 resurrected. I think the 2k5 resurrected one actually works with xbox 360. I bought a hard drive reader for $15 online and installed the mod to my xbox 360
Thts back when 2k actually made good games tho guys. Let’s be honest 2k is as bad as 2k now if not worst look at nba, wwe games now all suck its been yrs since they were also good let’s keep it 💯🤦♂️
One thing that 2k4 did that i missed from 2k5 were the secret (players) characters from other Sega franchises. You can unlock beat (jet grind radio), Axel (streets of rage), and a few others from Virtua fighter, as well as, certain legends like michael irving and i forgot the others.
I live in Orlando and work for a certain gaming company and here's the reality of the situation:
The NFL has let EA buy the Madden license for over 20 years, and the game has sucked almost every single year.
When EA does get their license renewed it won’t be highly publicized. Don’t count on the NFL doing anything but ensuring revenue.
If you stop buying EA's half-baked crap, they will stop making it.
I haven't bought a Madden game since 18.
Creating stadium mixes was a blast. I remember having the stadium play pressure from Billy Joel if the away team was down at the 2 minute warning
haha thats genius, I love it. Yeah I rememember I had a CD mix of jock jams and I would add a bunch of those songs to the stadium sounds
@@WildLionGames I had the Mighty Ducks soundtrack from when I was a kid. So I use that to play we “Will rock you” and “we are the champions” by queen
Brink back 2K football, Blitz, and just more competition
I have been playing a bit of Madden 24 franchise and there are soooo many little bugs and glitches. Just a very unpolished experience.
The game prompts me EVERY TIME I start it up that I'm not connected to EA servers, don't care playing offline, and that my "trial period" has expired. I can play as normal but the game doesn't even know that??? I'm playing it through my gamepass subscription so I didn't really buy the game and I'm glad. Most definitely not buying any Madden game anytime soon.
We need to voice our opinions to the NFL especially as the consumer
I still play on xbox 360. Your video made me fire it up. Fantastic game
This will always be the GOAT NFL game period
By the time the license is open for everyone they have 2k has been gone my whole teen years 😂
Wow. Validation for my NFL 2k5 glazing
WHY DOES THIS LOOK AND PLAY BETTER THEN WHAT WE HAVE NOW !!!! HOW !?!?
We got high tech consoles with trash games 😭😭😭
I still play 2K5 to this day. Same with NHL 2K5.
😂😂😂😂😂 u create him. It’s not the same
If I were in charge at EA and anybody on my team mentioned anything about improving the game I would fire them. Idiots buy the same game every year and it still makes a major profit. It would be dumb business to change it. McDonalds has sold trash for almost 50 years now.
Showing the Jags to start is ironic. Their owner back then was head of the NFL group that signed the exclusivity license.
I LOOVEEDD the Street games. Even Fifa Street was dope
I still play 2K5 because it's just superior.
Thank 🙏🏿 you for this
2k5 with Madden graphics would be awesome!!
We can’t see our online record. We have to ask our friends. Lol terrible!
thats wild lmao
Can't even use custom playbooks online either
Damn I thought it was just me only can see me friends record im tha only of my friends who got madden 25 right now nd picking your jersey don't work unless your home
@stevieiverson951. Custom play books online is what we call cheating
@@DesertDonkey-c8x or maybe do to the fact I like to create my own personal scheme 🤦🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️...... nothing wrong with custom scheme and audibles lil bro
Madden should be ashamed of themselves. Thats a damn shame man.
Not one mention of the pre-snap gameplay either? Multi-player motions was my favorite way to play so I could change route combinations on the field.
haha next video will be "26 things 2k5 has that Madden doesn't" but yeah 2k5 had some pretty advanced mechanics for its time
Calling a motion from a bigger WR, or the edge TE and snapping the balls just as he gets infront of the guy he has the block is just 🤌🏻🤌🏻🤌🏻 so organic and realistic feeling running the ball in this game
It really sucks That as video game hardware has gotten immensely better the sports genre has almost disappeared. I can't imagine what sports games would be if we got to see them climb at the same rate that 1st person shooters and open world games did
I always like to point out that 2K5 was $19.99 at launch in addition to everything it had
The problem isn't EA, it's the sucker's who keep buying the game.
true. as a company why would you change when your revenue is looking good? thats why I preach dont buy the game. they dont care if reviews suck as long as the money keeps coming in
This is when 2k Sports was innovative in their approach to gaming. From NFL2k5, NBA2k11 and CH2k8, they understood the assignment!
Nowadays... 🤷🏿♂️
I'd say they're still innovative. myEra in 2k and the City are both awesome concepts. the problem with 2k is everything is riddled with microtransactions
We need that 2k back
The presentation carried over into 2k basketball.
That's why historically teams have gone away because of player likeness lawsuits in late 2000's in football games
i play Madden 08 on my gamecube still. it is still the best version in my opinion. i tried a few versions on the xbox360 in the middle 2010s, but i was unimpressed.
Can't imagine what the 2K series could do with today's technology. Although the broadcasting might be better with a service other than ESPN these days. Just not the same. 2K would outsell Madden if it came back.
I really miss having multiple football games to choose from. Competition is great! But I fear if nfl 2k was to comeback, it would suffer the same micro transactions fate of nba 2k
Great video
Thank you!
I was playing this the other day and was thinking they just could just update the rosters and clean up the graphics a bit and just release it. It would easily be the best football game.
