2K should just make an All-Pro 2020 and add simple skin template uploads for jerseys, logos, faces etc. The community will do the rest in _very_ short order.

They need to make " pro football simulator 2020 " then they can let the users make the teams and logos themselves while they start off with generic teams and uniforms build the game so that the community can help finish the game like they have with 2k8

I'll still never forget the first time I got an INT in 2K8. It was on the sideline and as my DB was running it back I noticed that all of my teammates on the sideline reacted realistically. They started celebrating right after the pick and started cheering me on as I was returning it. Jumping up and down, waving towels, etc.
This game would be near perfection with a Franchise Mode.
Yes, and in Madden, everyone on the field chases you no matter where they are on the field. I believe in either 2k5 or APF2k8, opponents would slow down and realize what a lost cause it would be to attempt to give chase. It was a really realistic and immersive experience.

Remember how on 2K5 u could integrate ur own personal music for sacks, 1st downs, touchdowns, etc from DLd CDs?! Game had EVERYTHING
NCAA Football had that feature in 2009 or 2010 (I forget which year). You could set custom music to a number of different triggers in the game.
Sadly this was an Xbox exclusive feature because the system had the ability to rip your CDs like iTunes or Windows Media Player.
I loved that about 2k5 it was insane, madden doesn't compare

@@dodekinderen2066 To a degree. But the biggest difference between EA and 2K, is the effort. They still seem to care about improving the game, at least for ones they had developers in. (WWE being the only outlier) The effort EA put into the latest FIFA and Madden, on current gen consoles and PC, pales in comparison to even the effort 2K put into NBA2K2 for the Nintendo Switch alone.

@@Bidwellz9 he was talking about the unique way he escaped the pocket. He looks at the defenders and make a move to escape them. In Madden you can escape pressure, but it doesn't look very real. You move the quarterback away from the defenders while he blankly stares downfield and then gets sucked into a reach sack animation.

It’s an ABSOLUTE CRIME that Madden has rested on their exclusive license for so many years. EA has to do better, but I doubt they will.

The sad fact is this is why monopolies are normally illegal. If you're the only one that can produce something why would you make it any better make the same product charge the same price

@@Richard-ks5fg I'm not in a position to judge...but I can see when someone is trying to garner an audience by appealing to internet trolls. Madden has flaws that should be pointed out, but sometimes it gets quite petty. Like complaining about the injury animation. In that video adrian Peterson injured his left hand, and moody criticized that he slammed his helmet...when he did it with his right hand. Those are just nitpicks and you can definitely nitpick 2k5 if you want. When you play on turf, the field looks like trash by the end of the game...when its turf. They miss uniforms that madden had...like the cowboys 1995 blue throwback (although they had the white version from 1994). They didnt have a create a team. And the postgame show was all over the place. There is a video where a guy plays Dallas vs New York to a 10-10 tie. At the end of the game, berman says Dallas wins 10-10 and in the recap he says New York wins 10-10. Also you cant choose the uniform of your opponent in franchise mode like you can in madden. And these issues werent new...they carried over from previous 2k installments.
If NCAA 14, 2K5 and 2K8 were spliced you'd have a perfect football game. Ive got all of them. 2K8 plays the best on the field, needs 2K5 presentation, and road to glory and dynasty mode like in NCAA14. First person football wouldnt hurt either.
Give me the franchise and superstar mode from Madden 08 with 2k8's gameplay and the presentation from 2k5 and I'll never buy another football game again

If 2K5 would have had the same mechanics and animations as 2K8 It would by far be the best game ever made and I personally believe If they would have had 2K6 Madden really would have been In trouble because 2005 Is when the Madden Franchise pretty much wasn't straight up with us about how 06 was going to look on next gen. Imagine 2K6 on ps3 and x-box 360. Imagine that game

i probably put about 3000 games into it and i havent played it in like 10 years. lol It was a fun time no doubt. I dont even bother with sports games anymore. EA has killed the sports game genre for me!

because madden hasnt updated its character models since 2009, just stretching different slightly higher res textures over em every year, and the animations in 2k8 are ten times more realistic and detailed than madden 20

The animations in Madden suck. I mean many are nice on a vacuum but the way they all trigger in game makes everything feel a bit random and completely unrealistic.

I would pay the price of a new console for a 2k copy of All Pro Football 2k20 with all 32 teams completely customizable and a franchise mode. The only reason I play 2k5 over this is because of the limitations in 2k8. Its EA's fault but 2k really dropped the ball and rushed this out. Gameplay is amazing though. Love your videos, one minor gripe... Madden 17 did initially have a pretty damn good strip sack that was removed in a patch, the same patch that installed a stupid running back move that made them slow down and juke in the open field. EA sucks. Last Madden I bought used. Haven't bought Madden new since 25. Thanks for the roster link I'll check it out. I love 2k8 but playing it always depresses me because I think of what could have been.
This game came out at the wrong time. Madden was arguably at its peak and this game had no game modes outside of play now and season. If All Pro dropped today with more features it would sell like hotcakes
If the CPU AI in 2k5 didn't suck so bad, I would still be playing that franchise mode. They just feed you turnovers because they rush throws to avoid sacks, and they only throw bullet passes
They probably should have waited a year and used the extra time for an even better creation suite, and a way to make a franchise mode that made sense.
@@kylefunderburk4194 they should have skipped the expensive legend system and gave us a totally customizable system where you can generate players the same way you can with the APFE but with a cap on how many points you can assign to player ratings for the whole team, like a salary cap.
Legends were cool and they feel different, yes, but at the same time they essentially played the same because the tier system created a bum, good, very good, and great caste of players but didn't give varied and flawed players they way you had in 2k5. You wouldn't have to choose between giving the ball to Tiki Barber a lot (50 fumble rating) and Ron Dayne (70 overall but 90 secure ball), or playing Kerry Collins (7 fumble rating and 50 speed) and Rich Gannon (higher fumble rating and speed and consistency but weak arm), or playing Deshaun Foster (higher speed and break tackle animations that were much faster) or Stephen Davis (more consistent broken tackles but slower animations and speed)
the 2k8 editor finally lets people create a very diverse assortment of teams
It would be nice if 2K made an updated version of All Pro Football with fully customized teams, the stadiums from the original APF2K8 with new stadiums and the customizable uniforms for the next gen consoles. Add online play and franchise modes and I'm pre ordering the game. But unfortunately that may never happen, but one can pray for it.

I play the beast, the werewolves, the sharks, and the legends all the time. The other night I had a 48-45 barnburner I lost to the werewolves cuz I let up a kick return TD after scoring with 10 seconds left. I also let up a kick return TD after scoring with like 15 seconds to go in the first half. And let up an opening kickoff TD return. It would have been the best game of all time if it were real life.

That's not accurate...2K Sports could buy an NFL license and make another game if they could afford it. EA is the only company who can afford the license and is willing to make a game ;)

2K should give it another shot. Yeah the game flopped in 2007 but now the market has changed. Gaming in general has changed. 2K is so big now that a football game done by them would no doubt be successful. I’m not blaming EA anymore, 2K fans and football fans have been begging for them to comeback and 2K won’t even speak about a football game. With how much money they made on NBA2K and GTA they can afford to at least make an attempt.

Hey man - I dunno if you read your comments but I just wanted to say thank you for making this channel. I'm someone who's been a hardcore sports / sports gaming fan dating back to the early 2000s. I've been on forums like Operation Sports and we've collectively bashed our skulls in with year after year of disappointment with our franchise modes (whether it be Madden, FIFA, or NHL) - and only NBA2k has really satisfied that thirst with their magnificent MyLeague (which sadly doesn't get enough attention cuz people are obsessed with MyCareer)
Nonetheless, I remember getting All-Pro Football 2k8 when it came out, got it on Xbox 360, and I STILL have fond memories of playing it to this day. It's been 5+ years but this was a wonderful trip down memory lane. I remember LOVING Ricky Watters as my silver star running back. The smoothness of the gameplay just feels completely counter to what Madden has become in recent years.
Keep up the good fight. It feels awesome to finally have a video game critic who covers sports games now!

And the funniest thing to me is when people say NBA 2K is just as bad or worse than Madden. LMAOOOO. They can complain all they want about NBA 2K's monetization exploits, but gameplay wise, Madden isn't even in the same universe as NBA 2K. The same goes for franchise mode for both games.

APF could work out better today than in 07. Players that have retired since are more known and dear to people who play video games: ray lewis, brian dawkins, ed reed, LT, Vick, steve smith, TO, Moss, peyton, eli, charles woodson, michael strahan, julius peppers, urlacher, 85, and much more. The roster for APF08 was great but most players were before most video game players time. I think if it were released today with a franchise mode, it might sell better than 08. The fix for the franchise aging problem, would be to place players on teams based on their prime year, and have players, including generic players to level up to bronze, silver and gold
Edit: thinking back to this comment and others I've made about this game, all 2k needED (because now they kinda can't) to do was to make something similar to what axis and maximum are trying to so. Basically: remove the legends, add more plays, add more jersey, cleats and helmet options, add more logos, add the ability to create a college league, pro league or even HS league then have those league interact with each other and release a license-less game that plays great for 30-40$

Thanks for the love man. Yes! 2k8 is still my go to game til this day, since day one. Madden can have the cheese and and unrealistic expectations they can’t let go. All Pro 2k8 will remain the best football game ever.

UK here. Played Madden since 02 and the year I visited family in Geneva, NY my uncle was playing this game and showed me it. I was blown away by how good it was. My favourite NFL games were and are still 2004, 2008 (ps2) and 2010. I could never find a copy of this in the UK even though it was available over here on PS3

I remember going out of town with my family and going with my dad into a GameStop, probably around 2011. I’d never heard of this game, but it looked awesome to me, plus it was only $7, so I got it pretty easily lol. I still play it too this day, and I agree, one of the best football games ever easily. Here’s hoping 2k eventually gets another try, because the potential is just too insane.
Since 2k has been gone, and with no end to the NFl license being owned by EA with Madden, I always prayed that the team from Visual Concepts would get picked up by EA, and fix the Madden franchise. Oh well, seems like Madden will forever be busted. Good video! I may check out some of these updates for 2k8. I still play NFL2k2 on Dreamcast and am blown away how the animations look better than this gens Madden to me. I do however still enjoy Madden 98 on my Saturn
Really nice video! One suggestion: maybe add a bit more in-game footage? Like, with the HUD up, playing it normally. It'd help those of us unfortunate enough to never play give us more of a sense of the game!

They don't give a shit, obviously. They only care about the bottom line, which to be fair is kind of the point of corporations. Their approach is to have the dev team spend as little as possible, then make as much as possible. This is why Madden barely has any new features, and largely is the same year after year, with few improvements: they don't get the budget to completely overhaul the game.

Hey man I really really appreciated this video. As a huge fan of 2K5 and 2K8 (which never gets any love) it was a joy to watch. Safe to assume you're looking forward to the new 'arcade' 2K football game that's around the corner as I am.
This was such a great love letter to what could be with 2K regaining the license.
I bought this game the first day it came out. And it is still the best game I've played by far.
The gameplay was amazing, hands down the best gameplay in a football game.

Beautiful video. I started watching football 5 years ago so i was only able to play madden 16-20.. I always raged about how unrealistically madden is and now I found out about this game. So beautiful to look at. And I just wish I could witness anything like that in the future. Thanks again for the video.
2K just knows how to make a game. NHL 2K is still one of the tech marvels of sports games
Yes. And unfortunately, the general public is too small minded to realize or appreciate their efforts. But they WILL drool over a new madden game just because it has shiny new graphics. For me, the thing that separates 2K and EA most is the attention to detail that 2K has, and lack of attention to detail that EA has. And that doesn't apply to just their sports games.

I've never enjoyed playing All Pro Football 2k8 but gameplay is so beautiful to watch. Really makes you wish 2k football stuck around
It's one of the tricks from the 2K football and basketball games (not really a trick but a design decision). One of the things when comparing the gameplay animations used between 2K and the EA games was the length for some of the animations. 2K would use longer animations. They look a little better on replay and can look a little better when playing, but can make the gameplay feel a little "flow-y." The EA games would use shorter animations that so you could get control of your character quicker. The downside to using longer animations would also be once the animation started, you would have to wait until the end before another animation could start (e.g., getting tackled).
With All-Pro, 2K was still using their old game engine (which makes sense), but they would have had to eventually go through the growing pains of upgrading it. EA had completely changed the way they did animations in their sports games starting on the Xbox 360, and it was still going through a lot of those pains (since the animation system was originally developed for the needs of FIFA). Eventually, the system became more powerful. It allowed things like branching animations (i.e., starting into a new animation before the previous one finished playing at certain branch points) and also allowed to implement things like gang tackles (very difficult to do with the older generations of animation systems).

The gameplay and attention to detail was top notch and hasn't been duplicated, but the game had its flaws. Only having a single season mode was very disappointing, and creating a team within the same format got dull. It would have been so cool to create a team with 11 gold star players, or with a different combination of stars. I will definitely check out Javo's site, though.
As I got older I always subconsciously compared all the latest Madden games to this one. I forgot the name and took me 3 years to remember, how? Idk. I miss this game. This game is the greatest. I miss the intro to it.
Nothing beats this gameplay and presentation. It's just an alternate universe NFL. I remember playing every game with the sole purpose of going 19-0 and breaking Marino & Brady's passing records
That’s easy af to do - just get two gold receivers (I like Biletnikoff and Lofton or Biletnikoff and Rice), Cunningham at QB, two silver corners, one bronze WR, two bronze DE’s, two bronze linebackers and one safety or two bronze safeties and one bronze linebacker - you’ll blowout everyone with that setup
People still play this on Xbox 360 that should tell you something
I still play 360 to this day, so many amazing games out there that you can buy used on amazon, ebay, or gamestop.

The need for speed game the last 7 years have been garbage. The Call of duty games ever since black opps 2 have been fucking garbage. Halo 5 was fucking garbage. The company that made Halo popular don't even make the Halo games anymore bungie. You don't got games like NFL Street or NBA street, SSX, Def jam fight fight for New York. Or games like 25 to life or the 59 cent game called bulletproof.
The fighting games these days are trash. They released Street fighter V and had the audacity to charge $60 for the game and it only came with like 7 playable characters because you had to wait for the company to add the rest of the characters to the game, get the fuck outta of here with that.
Tou ain't got no marvel vs. Capcom, no SNK vs Capcom, no SNK vs Marvel. There's no new King of fighters games no new Samurai shodown games or fatal fury games. They don't make midnight club anymore. They don't make Dead space anymore.
There not even boxing games these days, no knockout Kings no fight night. You don't got no College football games and there's no college basketball games.
The gaming titles from the 90s and 2000's are way better than the gaming titles these days and that's a fucking fact.
Metal gear, Splinter cell, Max Pain, Hitman the wrestling games are all trash these days.
So with all that being said there's no reason for me to buy Xbox One or a PlayStation 4. Or any other fuck console that comes out after those.

I just found this game today at my local Goodwill for $2.00 for PS3. I was like a kid in a candy store when I seen this. It’s in great condition not one scratch on it in the original case.
Your point about MUT (Madden Ultimate Team) is even more profound today than when this video released. People buy Madden (mostly) to play MUT and why? Because they get to play with all the official players and teams. Madden let’s you play a “whole season” worth of games (7 wins in the regular season, with either 3 or 4 playoff games depending on if you get a first round bye for winning 7 straight games in the regular season) and that’s pretty much it. Either you play H2H or Squads. If 2k was allowed to make a game exactly like what MUT does I guarantee you it would put the entire game of Madden (Face of the franchise, the yard, etc) to shame in every way. I pray one day for all of us we get something like this game again. Madden is to football what Will Smith is to Chris Rock; a huge smack in the face.
