The V.I.P system was before its time. It was scary to play against a friends profile and see it play exactly as if he was there and to even download the top players file and play that!

Honestly, face of the franchise saved madden for me. I got sick of picking a team I wanted to play for and just being the starter. Playing 15 years and calling it quits. It was boring. The franchise mode was the same year after year. But face of the franchise brings back some sort of realistic effect to madden for me. Which we hadn’t had since madden 11.

Nope! It was my game of choice before the Sega Dreamcast debuted with Nfl 2k. Nfl Fever on og xbox was great too. Before that Tecmo Superbowl, Joe Montana series.. I was never a fan of the madden series
Derp Man oh it’s no doubt in my mind that if NFL 2K was still around in 2020 it would be bogged down with MTX af. Just like nba 2K you would need VC to get all of your accessories like mouthpieces, shoulder pads, helmets, knee & thigh pads, cleats literally everything guaranteed but at least it would give EA as well as 2K competition to keep each other developer on they toes.
It was super awesome as an RB...To look both ways and see how the d line was shifted and where the LBs were and to actually see the hole when carrying was fun as heck and it was the closest thing to actually playing. Also loved playing on the d line with it(played DT in school)...so much potential there to improve but it made you play off instincts of a real Player more than being able to see the entire field which causes you to move and play outside of how the game is played for real

The thing is that EA literally has the NFL’s license to use ESPN, FOX, NFL Network, CBS etc but refuses to utilize those channels. But they claim to be simulation. Apparently not in my eyes because then they’d use those rights from the NFL if they wanted to make their game truly authentic

The fact that Take-Two sold such a fully-featured, fully-licensed, and top-quality game for just $20 still blows my mind to this day. I bought both 2K and Madden yearly, so 2004 was nice for my wallet AND for fun football games. It also blows my mind that EA actually had a partnership with ESPN for years and never capitalized on it for Madden. The possibilities were there, but ESPN chose to use them on NCAA franchises instead. The way that Visual Concepts brought ESPN telecasts to their video games has rarely been matched by other presentation packages; maybe thIs gen of NBA 2K comes close, and the dual ESPN and CBS Sports presentation packages in NCAA Basketball 10 are in the conversation. Hard to believe it’s been 15 years since the last non-Madden NFL game. The market sorely misses the competition.
There's never going to be a pricing competition like the one we saw for Madden 05 and 2K5 (I think the entire 2K lineup of sports titles had the $20 price tag). It was awesome, from a consumer standpoint.
The thing I liked the most about 2k football was there bravery to try new things.. madden just does the same stuff over and over cuz they r afraid to fail but 2k did anything they thought might work despite what critics said
I challenge you to do a video of the things Madden doesn't have TODAY that 2k had all those years ago or are we afraid to do that. Though not perfect as you are showing, 2k provided a true football experience that still hasn't been achieved in MADDEN. NCAA was done by a completely different studio than Madden an was a better game. Maybe EA should hire those guys.
A lot of the NCAA team does work on madden. What most of the people don't understand who shit on the madden devs is its not their fault. Its the Executives at EA fault. The devs can't work on franchise mode or gameplay if the executives want them to work on pay to win modes or making the game easier for casual fans. The devs have a boss and they have to do what the boss says. Getting mad at the executives is what should be done, not the devs.

What did I like about NFL 2K5? Actual typefaces on uniforms (at the time Madden didn't do that), shots of the fans in the stands and cheerleaders on the field (even for teams that don't have cheerleaders like Chicago), playing DMX's I'm a Bang for stadium music, the halftime and postgame show having replays of big plays from the game with Berman at commentary, the actual proper use of the ESPN license (EA barely uses it in spite of having access to the brand), custom audibles on defense per position group or player (and easy too using the left joystick) and yes the $20 dollar price point for a game that had more in it than Madden.

I've been playing 2K5 non stop for nearly a year. To the point where I haven't played any of my other Maddens since getting my hands on it. Yesterday I played a bit of Madden 12, and I can honestly say that 2K5 still FELT like more of a simulation game. I also bought a copy of ESPN NFL Football (aka 2K4) and could see the beginnings of greatness. The previous 2K games, I cannot stand because of the playcalling mechanism. But I'm apparently a completist...because I have them lol
there were a few more features i loved in 2k5 that madden never had or was very limited, the fact that you could save any of your instant replays to watch later was awesome, also the fact you could charge up your player for a harder hit, or speed burst... to make your player speed up you had to keep tapping the button was way more satisfying than just holding down the button or trigger in madden... to catch the ball felt more realistic and more user controlled in 2k5 than madden... overall 2k5 made you feel like you had more control over the game and the outcome of the game...
I think as a community the ones that love NFL football should come together and try to get them to bring it back some how especially since we are in the Next Gen era. Because I don't play Madden anymore.....I haven't played Madden since like Madden 25.
The announcers in NFL2K were famous for saying a line that pretty much reflects the state of AAA Football gaming, to this day. If you were to compare the features to what we had 17 years ago. They were right when they said, "You can't coach that!"

I have this game on the original Xbox. One of the best football video games I've ever played. The best part is add your own custom soundtracks into the game on the Xbox version.
I totally customized this game on my XBOX. From first downs to interceptions. Monday Night Football theme/CBS Football theme/Fox Sports Theme. I customized my top 25 Historical Teams. Changing their names,numbers and stats. Then you can watch the computer play itself with historical teams. What a sight !!! I loved their super moves!!! Holding a A button to super charge and do a super move that’s realistic. I love seeing the foul on the field like holding and face masks. Customizing the defensive players on the line of scrimmage and play outside or inside of the receiver. Play up to jam or back up to not get burned deep. I LOVE THIS GAME!!!
Thank you sports gamers for the video. I actually just bought 2K five again took down my partially unopened Xbox 360 elite couldn’t find the controller had to buy another one and took the tape off because I never use it and all that good stuff fired it up. Updated it to K5 played fine, I remembered how awesome this game really was still trying to figure out why I even got rid of it in the first place and made a historic 90s Giants team which took me hours only to remember that you can’t use them in franchise that sucks but it’s still fun this game the presentation to the gameplay to even though the great announcers, there’s just nothing like it so excited to know that 2K has got a license back and hopefully by next year into the future they will start making simulation football games again just imagine this game template on our series X and ps5s and even most likely our Nintendo switch how cold would that be in 2023 it’s still a great game madden with all his bugs and foolishness and money hungry nonsense, better watch out because 2K you see 2023 is still the game for me !

This series needs to come back, same with NFL head coach. All these great games back in the day are gone now, or butchered. I feel like back in the day, since the graphics and other specs was low, it was easier to add things and work on the game more. Except all these newer madden's have been on the same Engine (well the last few have) graphics should be the least of their worries.
My favorite feature was putting your own music in the game in key moments and you got to decide at home games what song would play at what moment. 1st down one song, touchdown another song, 3rd down stop another song...........

I wish that ESPN NFL 2K games allowed for complete roster, as well as statistics, changes, like an improved version of NCAA Football 08, and maybe a few more NCAA Football games, and more variety in football rules, like turning the tuck rule on or off, and adjusting the line in which a touchback could start a receiving team at, i. e., choosing to start at the 20 or 25 yard line in your own end zone.
People are still updating this game. It's funny you mentioned that it's showing it's age because you can have up to date rosters in a game in from 2004 that also more accurately represents football than anything in recent memory from Madden

Tbf, all the ps2 & ps3 madden games were better and had more depth than the new ones. So it wasn't just 2K games that were better back then.

Take-Two didn’t publish this, they bought 2K in 2005, after this was released.
The tendencies and weekly preparation are what separate this game. People always gloss over or leave them out when making these 2k5 videos.

What did I like about NFL 2K5? Actual typefaces on uniforms (at the time Madden didn't do that), shots of the fans in the stands and cheerleaders on the field (even for teams that don't have cheerleaders like Chicago), playing DMX's I'm a Bang for stadium music, the halftime and postgame show having replays of big plays from the game with Berman at commentary, the actual proper use of the ESPN license (EA barely uses it in spite of having access to the brand), custom audibles on defense per position group or player (and easy too using the left joystick) and yes the $20 dollar price point for a game that had more in it than Madden.

I've been playing 2K5 non stop for nearly a year. To the point where I haven't played any of my other Maddens since getting my hands on it. Yesterday I played a bit of Madden 12, and I can honestly say that 2K5 still FELT like more of a simulation game. I also bought a copy of ESPN NFL Football (aka 2K4) and could see the beginnings of greatness. The previous 2K games, I cannot stand because of the playcalling mechanism. But I'm apparently a completist...because I have them lol

there were a few more features i loved in 2k5 that madden never had or was very limited, the fact that you could save any of your instant replays to watch later was awesome, also the fact you could charge up your player for a harder hit, or speed burst... to make your player speed up you had to keep tapping the button was way more satisfying than just holding down the button or trigger in madden... to catch the ball felt more realistic and more user controlled in 2k5 than madden... overall 2k5 made you feel like you had more control over the game and the outcome of the game...

I think as a community the ones that love NFL football should come together and try to get them to bring it back some how especially since we are in the Next Gen era. Because I don't play Madden anymore.....I haven't played Madden since like Madden 25.
Their is no way for the "community" to bring back 2k football. All pro football 2k8 didn't sell well, if it did we'd still have 2k football.
The announcers in NFL2K were famous for saying a line that pretty much reflects the state of AAA Football gaming, to this day. If you were to compare the features to what we had 17 years ago. They were right when they said, "You can't coach that!"

Nba 2k5 came out for 20 bucks too so the NFL has nothing to do with the pricing. The license for the game was already purchased by 2k.

The nba wasn't mad about the price. The NFL was. Nba is waaay different than nfl. NFL doesn't even let madden have a create a team feature while the NBA does not care about that.

I have this game on the original Xbox. One of the best football video games I've ever played. The best part is add your own custom soundtracks into the game on the Xbox version.

I totally customized this game on my XBOX. From first downs to interceptions. Monday Night Football theme/CBS Football theme/Fox Sports Theme. I customized my top 25 Historical Teams. Changing their names,numbers and stats. Then you can watch the computer play itself with historical teams. What a sight !!! I loved their super moves!!! Holding a A button to super charge and do a super move that’s realistic. I love seeing the foul on the field like holding and face masks. Customizing the defensive players on the line of scrimmage and play outside or inside of the receiver. Play up to jam or back up to not get burned deep. I LOVE THIS GAME!!!

Thank you sports gamers for the video. I actually just bought 2K five again took down my partially unopened Xbox 360 elite couldn’t find the controller had to buy another one and took the tape off because I never use it and all that good stuff fired it up. Updated it to K5 played fine, I remembered how awesome this game really was still trying to figure out why I even got rid of it in the first place and made a historic 90s Giants team which took me hours only to remember that you can’t use them in franchise that sucks but it’s still fun this game the presentation to the gameplay to even though the great announcers, there’s just nothing like it so excited to know that 2K has got a license back and hopefully by next year into the future they will start making simulation football games again just imagine this game template on our series X and ps5s and even most likely our Nintendo switch how cold would that be in 2023 it’s still a great game madden with all his bugs and foolishness and money hungry nonsense, better watch out because 2K you see 2023 is still the game for me !

Hopefully 2K makes a good game with pretty good to great sales & the NFL at least gives consideration to maybe opening up the license to any developer. I simply flat out refuse to ever play Madden again as long as the game is in it’s current MTX riddled state
very special game to me....played it when I started watching the NFL...ladainian Tomlinson and my hometown chargers were on top of the league...would spend countless hours playing this game with my friends, learning about all the players...favorite team to play with of course was mike Vick and the falcons lol
This series needs to come back, same with NFL head coach. All these great games back in the day are gone now, or butchered. I feel like back in the day, since the graphics and other specs was low, it was easier to add things and work on the game more. Except all these newer madden's have been on the same Engine (well the last few have) graphics should be the least of their worries.
Another cool fact is that the Xbox version of NFL 2K5 is backwards compatible for the Xbox 360.

My favorite feature was putting your own music in the game in key moments and you got to decide at home games what song would play at what moment. 1st down one song, touchdown another song, 3rd down stop another song...........
I feel that if EA wouldn't have made thath deal with the NFL, 2K would've been the dominant Pro Football series..
Precisely why they ran to the NFL in the first place. They knew they couldn’t compete with 2K if they were giving that type of effort to create a football game. Ran to the NFL & put so much money down to acquire exclusive licensing rights & the rest is history

I wish that ESPN NFL 2K games allowed for complete roster, as well as statistics, changes, like an improved version of NCAA Football 08, and maybe a few more NCAA Football games, and more variety in football rules, like turning the tuck rule on or off, and adjusting the line in which a touchback could start a receiving team at, i. e., choosing to start at the 20 or 25 yard line in your own end zone.

People are still updating this game. It's funny you mentioned that it's showing it's age because you can have up to date rosters in a game in from 2004 that also more accurately represents football than anything in recent memory from Madden
