- It's time for another eventing vlog! Pre-warning you all that I have been rather ill, so I'm afraid I've still got a bit of a croaky voice and there will be the odd cough every now and then.
Enough of the boring stuff, let's celebrate Winnie stepping up a level in eventing. This is her first 80cm class after her two runs at 70cm. As always, I like to produce my horses slowly to ensure they are really confident before they step up. Winnie proved she was more than ready for this bigger class by bringing home a top 10 placing. There were, of course, a few hiccups along the way, including a costly mistake in the showjumping and a hesitation on the cross country, but thankfully it all worked out. I hope you enjoy watching, and I can't wait to get Winnie out to the next event!

Yes, the horse box is a great portable potty ! You'd be surprised at how hard it is to find a toilet at horse events ! miles away most times from where you park.
Come living history re enacting, if you're lucky it's literally a few feet away from your camp!!

There's nothing worse than a summer cold. They hang on forever. And they are complicated by a high pollen count at this time of year. Take care of yourself. Considering everything, Winnie did quite well at 80 for the first time.
Winnie is a little super star sport pony coming along very nicely! I wish the best of luck to yall Meg! I think the quick stop at the water is something we can all relate to especially with the youngsters and i think you handled it lovely we cant ever expect perfection but we can always hope for the best and work through the bad its all a learning process in the end and watching you definitely inspires me and lets me know im not alone with my own challenges every rider faces throughout life!

im seeing previous vlog , and some competition in the sports of equestrian mostly show jumping , your authority in that kind of sports, many learning lessons that I my learn. vlog of yours is excellent.👏👏👏.
First, no one knows about banding braids rather than thread. Second, pee anywhere you can be discrete. Third. So smart to keep Winnie at 80 but it is so darn hard because she's capable of so much more! The straightness would be a game-changer. If she concentrated bit more and straightened up she could easily do 90. But,as I said, smart to make it easier rather than harder for her. Like the dropped rail and some wobbles but darn it that pony can jump! She is rocking cross country and even with the wobble at the water she was under the the time! I was watching her galloping between fences, she really opened up and covered some ground!
Well done,Meg. Take each time out as a training experience for Winnie at this age. Because that's what it is. I'm campaigning 2 stallions for the first time in years!! They did well last weekend, 2nd and 3rd overall. Dressage score of 29.2 and clear over 1m in 2 classes for Magician's Calypso who finished 2nd, and a 32 6 and same 2 classes for Pete's Dragon over 1 m who finished in 3rd 0lace. The owners are quite happy with them. They have started 70 cm cross country training but won't compete in it until next year. We had ppl stopping by telling us what great "geldings" we had. LOL 🤣 They were stunned to learn they were stallions! The looks on the people's faces was absolutely priceless! Telling us no way that they were studs! They don't act like a stallion should!! One girl was on a mare in season, and both of the boys never lifted their heads out of their haynets!! I told her it's all in how you train them to be and how you expect them to act at a showground. Winnie shows great promise for the future, she is the most amazing colour, very unusual. How big do you think Vali will be as an adult? I heard years ago that foals are born with their legs full length but the body grows, don't know how true that is though. Be nice to Pete, he seems a really nice guy and I hope Hobbit goes to more shows, it isn't the same without her.

I just started watching this (I know, I’m late!), but had to pause to comment. Meg, EVERY equestrian has peed in their horse’s stall at a show. EVERYONE! Not sure about peeing in the trailer (“horse box” in UK speak), but I’m sure if someone is only trailering in to an event or other competition for the day, and thus has no stall at the show/event facility, they’ve peed in there. I know I’ve peed in stalls and behind shrubbery many times in my 35+ years of having horses (yes, I’m old!). But you are totally normal for peeing “in the wild”

Such a great result! Her dressage is much improved, but you know perfectly well what you need to do there: get serious about leg on means GO and hold your outside rein like an absolute WALL. I can see her falling out her shoulder all the time--and on the CL you should travel with her firmly in the outside rein she will be on after the turn. She and Jam remind me so much of my Destiny--all the same faults, but also the great attitude. It's worth getting the forward and the balance! Go Winnie! BTW, why don't we call her Wynnie, since her name is Arwyn?
I watched the vid all the way through, then went back to re-watch the dressage, in light of your comments on it. I'm going to tell you what one of my instructors used to yell at me: "KEEP YOUR EYES UP! LOOK WHERE YOU ARE GOING, NOT AT YOUR HORSE!". I don't know if you are aware, but you do tend to drop your chin. This may be, at least in part, the reason Winnie wasn't going straight at times. We used to do eye exercises to promote using peripheral vision. Overall, though, a great performance from you both!
