I learnt to ride on an ex showjumper, he was my first ridden. 16.3hh. He went from jumping 1.60 to working in a riding school. He was the gentlest horse I've ever met. There was a disabled student who literally had to crawl up onto him on her knees and he would just stand like a rock. Perfect for teaching on. His face when he saw jumps being set up though. He got really grumpy if they weren't for him. His gaits were bouncy too, I think its just a showjumper thing, its how they get their propulsion, all their muscle is in their hind end and they sort of come in from behind. When he retired and I had to ride someone else I had to relearn how to trot as I was used to a big push upwards and the new horse was really smooth. He didn't really hinder me learning to ride though. I'd never known anything different and actually I think it did me good as I can now sit to pretty much any trot. No horse too bouncy!
Last time I rode a big horse, I nearly cried because of how freaked out I was. I could jump 1.00 and .80 no problem without freaking out, but not ride a big horse. His gaits were very bouncy, especially his canter, so it definitely scared me as I thought I was gonna fall off. Ironically, his name was Mini. Seeing you ride a big horse so effortlessly is amazing.

😂😂😂yes it was weird from going to a pony to a giant but honestly it was so fun!
