She did really well bless her. I love how your promoting such good etiquette to your viewers by still treating it as a “show”. Hobs & King Kenny did a good job bringing you up!
I just love Wilma. I think big things are coming your way, with her. You are getting the rain that we are not getting in our Victorian, Australian winter
Wilma is so good, bless her. You could hear the squelch of the cross-country ground. I love how patient you are with your horses🤗. You and all Team Elphick (& Wilma) were all very brave continuing in such horrendous weather🎉🎉 Kudos to you all❤
Well, that was different! You all did very well in the conditions. As you say, it is a perfect event for young horses. Presenting Wilma and yourself, correctly dressed, shows respect to the organizers and shows Wilma what to expect. Love your riding shirt by the way.
You are always so great with the young ones, Meg! Despite the less than ideal conditions, I thought you both did very well! I hope Wilma gets a spa day for being such a good girl. I love watching her be show prepped because she loves it so much! You should make a video of her having a spa day, so we can all look at it during times when we are stressed out! It will be so calming.
True-blue eventing, that is. Once rode out of start box with lightning in distance also and buckets pouring down. And was wearing bib number 13! AND on a fiesty thoroughbred stallion. (No joke!) We made it half-way 'round, then he slipped in the muddy woods, landed on top of one of the big dark tables in there, and I retired, grateful we were both in one piece. True-blue eventing, well done to get her 'round and safe and all part of her training experience.
Awwe Wilma what a brave young girl...slipping n sliding. Rain lightening thunder. Bless her..seems so strange watching you riding a brown horss.😂😂😂. What a sweetheart Wilma is... horrible weather..but you kept going. Hardcore eventing trooper that you are Meg. 😂😂 remember to pack waterproof coats for horse and humans next time..😂😂😂
I am guessing she was praising the horse so much because she did well in the dressage event? I didn't catch how she did on the first event from the rider, but that sounds very positive...I don't think she would be celebrating quite so much if she had done badly.
Well done I remember trying to school my horse in an indoor corrugated metal arena in a thunderstorm which was interesting lol so go you Wilma is such an honest horse you will go far on her -x-
That is perfect workout for her to take on lots of new ground, learn how to carry herself on less than perfect going and the more she gets out the more the green disappears.
She looked so good and settled warming up but then went behind your leg in the arena. Maybe she could feel the weather coming, they are intuitive. Commiserations about the weather, been there and done that, well done to you and Wilma for continuing.
I love training shows , judges give you pointers on what to improve on ❤ She was amazing , horses can def sense storms though and she was amazing for going through that , love that you pushed through , its great for them because you never know ! ❤
Certainly can see her progress from her first event. But, more importantly I can see your confidence growing every time you go out. You are doing so good Meg, it is just incredible to see your confidence getting stronger with each and every stride and jump.
Wilma is really muscling up nicely, I imgine there's been alot of work done in between vlogs, what a cracking choice you made when you chose her, also kudos for not being a fair weather eventer 🥰
The usual chaotic start 😂 That rain was biblical! The sound of the ground on the cross country too! Fair play for sticking with it, I'd have sacked it off at the first drop of rain 😂
For once, the weather in the UK is matching South Africa!!! LOL Glad you ladies managed to get through it, and I hope poor Hobbit managed to have a lovely hot bath when she got home!!
That is why I enjoy going to Hunter/jumper shows here in the U.S.! Our local shows (here in Georgia GHJA -Georgia Hunter Jumper Association is the state governing body for shows) take place in Saturday and Sunday, although people arrive in Friday to school their horses over courses -*-They DO change the courses for the actual competition, but at least the horses have seen the fences before!-*- So even if it is pouring rain, you can hide out in the stables if need be, and most of us have waterproof quarter sheets for our horses and rain jackets for ourselves while waiting ringside for our turn to go. Of course you DO have to take off the rain gear to actually DO the course, so we still end up a bit wet. But NOTHING close to Meg’s eventing experience. Our nationally rated shows, governed by USEF- United States Equestrian Federation- generally start on a Wednesday and run through Sunday. Again, everyone can shelter in the stables, in a golf cart, and have all your rain gear on for schooling and waiting for your turn. Also, some of our show grounds, both in the state of Georgia, and the surrounding states which make up Zone 4 (USEF divides the country into Zones for the sake of calculating year-end points and hopefully awards!) have NICE show grounds with many areas for horses and riders to shelter during the rain or during the heat. SO nice to have those shaded areas with the fans during hot weather competition! I have almost gotten heat stroke at one show bc I forgot to stay hydrated and to eat enough to keep my blood sugar off. I had competed 3 different horses in multiple divisions, so I was either riding or running around the show grounds ALL day! After my last class of the day in the late afternoon/early evening, I was sitting on my 17.2 h Dutch WB and started feeling really dizzy. Luckily, I managed to dismount BEFORE I actually fainted! 😳 That would have been a LONG drop to the ground! But it’s crazy what we horse people put ourselves through in order to compete, whatever the discipline. I WILL say that in the U.S., if it is actually storming, they will halt the show for safety reasons. Once the storm has passed, the competition resumes. Also, 99% of our competitions are done on a surface, so we don’t have to worry about putting in studs and slipping on grass (did do a few show jumping classes in grass arenas while it was pelting rain-literally could barely see where I was going bc the rain was blowing in my eyes. Even with studs in, I found it terrifying. Although, to be fair, regular show jumping is won based basically on who can go the fastest without knocking rails. So zooming around and making sharp turns ima grass arena is just too much for me. I think it got SO bad the show organizers called off the rest of the days’ classes. Ugh. NOT a fan of jumping on wet grass. Even in the arenas with surface, if it gets TOO flooded and boggy, the show organizers often cancel the rest of the classes for the day. Luckily, so many of the nice show grounds have GREAT all-weather footing, which doesn’t get slippery. Yup. I’ll stick to my hunter/jumper competitions in the US!!😂 But good job, both Meg and Wilma! Meg, you are MUCH braver than I am! If I was riding and saw a bolt of lightning, I would NOT have carried on!!😮
Meg! I am in my first horse show in nearly 30 years and my 5 year olds very first horse show tomorrow! It's a schooling show but we are excited and hope to have fun! And it's supposed to rain 😂!
Hi ALL, when watching YOU, I WAS making pizza for dinnertime . I addmeryou for all you training .Take care and all the best., with your plans. 😊😊😊😊👍👍👍👍
Oh dear Hobbit was not a happy bunny Meg such a shame the heavens opened. Hope you all had a nice hot soak in the 🛀. Wilma was a good girl though as you said she needs more of this without the rain hopefully.tfs.🤗🏇🤗
Meg your mums face at the end 🙈 You could tell she was completely done with it all 😂 I took my 4yr old there for her first BE80 and the same thing happened to us in the dressage and we got left alone in that separate field and my mare freaked out 🫣 But it’s a lovely xc course. Well done and and I hope Hobbs has dried off 😅
In an ideal world the rest of us could leave late morning, drive down the road and event, instead of leaving at O'Dark Thirty, drive for 2-3 hours for a one day show. Envious!
Have you thought about adding white objects around the sides of your home arena and also feeding amongst the white objects so she is second nature with the white boards next time she’s at a comp? ❤
Hi Meg, Such a shame about the weather but Wilma did brilliantly any way, it’s not the best conditions to event in but if she gets used to the wet it’s less that it will bother her in the future, unfortunately it’s typical British weather, fingers crossed it’s a nice sunny day next time
Appreciate you treating this training as an official event. Best to get extra experience. Love your etiquette and respect for those who set this all up. Very glad you decided to finish the day even being drenched. Great example for all those future students to see. I love sport horses & events and am a fairly new subscriber. However, all my experience is from western horse shows in the US. I would love to learn about eventing so I can enjoy and appreciate it more. I do understand dressage but am missing a good deal in the show jumping and cross country. Question: Can anyone give me a good channel to watch so I can learn the basics of the jumping events and some of the training background? (I just learned about plaits).
he he love Wilma dropping off while you plait her up :) don't think ive ever been riding in a storm but I did fall off in to a rock pool while on a each ride which I ended up as wet as you were XD
Wilma is a beautiful queen; one with courage and a steady heart...and she did very well in her events, for being so new to it....especially in a thunderstorm, with heavy rain and the ground all wet and soggy and horse and rider all wet and cold because of the event being outside and not in a warm and dry arena and ya'll running late and being frantic. She didn't let it rattle her. She danced through the dressage like a graceful ballerina, she jumped clean in show jumping and she only had one little slippery moment going through cross country...and you said she STILL went back and jumped that fence perfectly, she didn't spook...which given the stormy, wet conditions, at least she didn't take a fall or refuse any of the fences (that we saw on the footage) and it looked like she finished all the events. She didn't let the flashing lightning and booming thunder spook her when she was working. If she can do this well at an event that isn't scored, and nasty conditions, and she's an inexperienced young horse, imagine how brilliant she will be when the conditions are perfect and she's had some experience doing it....she will shine like a star. I was very impressed with her. This was a good learning experience for her and now you know that she can do an event in less than optimal conditions and still do it and keep her wits about her. Congratulations on having a good event.
Completely agree with what you say re etiquette and making an effort to turn out nicely at training shows but very interested to hear why you didn’t plant Jam for the show jumping at Badminton?? For me that would have put you out of the running for best turned out (sorry!) :)
Please do a video series with Herculese Eventing!! I love how refined she ride and would love to see you 2 ride together and learn from one another/u get a series of lessons from her...or whatever❤ Are you two acquainted and/or on Good terms?
I counted how much times hobbs said good girl to Wilma after the dressage test it was 37 times😂 we love u hobbs❤😊😂
She did really well bless her. I love how your promoting such good etiquette to your viewers by still treating it as a “show”. Hobs & King Kenny did a good job bringing you up!
at 5:31 Wilmas face is so cute with her little bottom lip 😆🥺
I just love Wilma. I think big things are coming your way, with her.
You are getting the rain that we are not getting in our Victorian, Australian winter
well done wilma!! do you think you would ever make a vid of eventing prep like tips on plaiting and how you do it and the whole morning routine? x
Wilma is so good, bless her. You could hear the squelch of the cross-country ground. I love how patient you are with your horses🤗. You and all Team Elphick (& Wilma) were all very brave continuing in such horrendous weather🎉🎉 Kudos to you all❤

Gotta love eventing on days when everyone looks like they've fallen into the water obstacle!

Wilma is such a smart girl with great confirmation. She has come on a long way. Xx
Wilma did well despite the terrible rain! ❤
Me trying to listen to you talk about your dressage test and Hobs repetitively in the background "good girl, good girl" 😭❤
Same, I was finding it hard to concentrate 😭😭❤
I am guessing she was praising the horse so much because she did well in the dressage event? I didn't catch how she did on the first event from the rider, but that sounds very positive...I don't think she would be celebrating quite so much if she had done badly.
Gotta love Wilma. All around her are fussing and loud and she just stands there ‼️🇨🇦
Well done I remember trying to school my horse in an indoor corrugated metal arena in a thunderstorm which was interesting lol so go you Wilma is such an honest horse you will go far on her -x-

Wilma is so sweet natured in the stable, what a sweetheart ❤
Can't wait to watch

Well done and well ridden in such awful weather! So nice to see Wilma out and learning. She is a sweetheart ❤
That's one thing I don't miss about competing! ⛈️🌧 ugh, wet saddle, soaked to the bone, pony sodden, horrible ground, rain dripping off your nose...😱
