I absolutely loves Simons approach to everything and they way he speaks to the horses! I didn’t know much about him but wow he has gained so much respect from me, it was ‘boring’ like he said it was so fascinating and I will definitely be using these techniques in the future. He is just so soft with the horses it lovely to watch.
Tell Simon he absolutely does not need to apologize! As a rider / trainer I absolutely LOVE videos like this, they are already like a free study session, and I also love to share them with a young friend of mine that wants to be a trainer as really great examples of training. Especially for this one I think the biggest lesson is that slowing down at the very start is the best way to build a truly solid foundation.
A lot of people forget that horses really are heard animals. It’s so nice to see a trainer that uses this principle and isn’t afraid to do that kind of groundwork. It would be so much easier if people just got off sometimes.
Absolutely adore Simon's nature with horses. Such good horsemanship and definetly a good egg to surround yourself with. The way he takes the time to help her adjust to the water and doesn't push her, instead guides her through on foot. No pressure, no rush, no arguments or frustration, just super understanding that she's a baby and needs to take her time to feel confident. What a superstar he is ✨️
Simon is just my favorite. i absolutely LOVE the way he takes things slow, he makes it fun. he has such a good attitude about it all! Winnie was a rock star!!
Winnie has greyed out so much since I last saw her on a video! Also, such nice vibes in this video, I love how considerate and careful Simon is with the youngsters!

I just adore Simon and his whole demeanor about riding and training. If only all professionals took a similar approach! Also obsessed with the grey in Winnie’s tail!
Simon is the best 💖 I love that he gets off and shows the horses things on foot, i wish more people would do this. It builds so much confidence and you avoid jaggung them in the mouth or slamming down on their backs. Would love to see Meg do more in hand work/groundwork as with your young audience you could introduce it to so many and help so many horses.
I think it also helps the horse to deal with scary things because they can see you and see you do it which makes it less scary for them, it’s like a security blanket. Once they understand on the ground what they have to do and everything isn’t terrifying anymore then you get on and slowly show them what it’s all about while ridden. I agree that I think more people should show their horses things on the ground first.
I’ve always done this but I’ve also had people take the piss out of me for it so I imagine that’s why more people don’t. It’s crazy though as it’s really common among top level event riders to do this yet a lot of people think look down their noses if it’s not a battle!
Simon is literally a national treasure. It's so lovely to watch how much praise he gives Winnie ❤ Also the way he's basically riding with the most light contact/no reins at all at certain points, great example showing how much control comes from our seat & not our hands 😍
Simon did a fantastic job with Winnie. Slow and steady will always win the long race. And that's what you have to look at, especially with a young horse. Make them LOVE THE JOB you are asking them to do for the rest of their life!! Keep them Safe, make them Confident and keep them Happy in their job, and they will always give their heart and soul to do it for you. You couldn't have picked a better person to start Vlog-Mas with, Meg!! Especially since he was riding your new pride and joy, Winnie. Your friend, the Retired Paramedic and Horse Trainer in Ontario, Canada, Jenn 💖 🇨🇦
I absolutely love how supportive, understanding, and encouraging he is with her. The adorable way he was speaking to her. ❤ This is the respect and support all horses facing something new should have.

i just love how simon talks to her and calls her darling its just so sweet you can realy tell that meg and simon love there horses and that winnie trusts them xxx
What a fabulous start to Vlogmas! Simon is THE BEST. What an absolutely wonderful attitude he has with a young horse. Winnie clearly loved him, and who wouldn't? He gave her so much confidence, and I'll bet you can tell the next time you get her out to jump!
I really like how he did the exercises. He let winnie figure out what to do, without pressure or time limit. You can see her getting more comfortable with the exercises, it’s beautiful to see her make so many little steps forward 😄
Speaking for myself, I enjoyed watching Simon and do not feel his approach is boring at all. Watching him with Winnie was super-fun! His sound effects are the best.
More videos with Simon please! This video made my day! Simon's laugh it is something heheee whoooop and weeeeeeee and yay ) Such a comfort and positive video with useful content! So nice! But i just love this...: 28:00 'Whoops straight line munchkin and no bucky bucks' hahaha that just got me, i just love it!
I LOVED this video. The horse looks happy, Simon’s way is so nice. I’ve met a lot of old school riders that don’t really care about their horses, the upbringing of a young horse is crucial to how they handle competition and stress down the road. If they don’t love their job, they end up having physical and mental problems. This is how they learn to love it, everything should be a game ❤️
Not boring!! It is so exciting to see someone taking a horse out and listening to it and guiding it to grow and learn together. Well done. And Winnie has a great stride, athleticism, and power along with the brains to use it. I predict she will be even better than her mom.
I find each little "hee hee" and "whee" is incredibly charming and I'm not entirely sure why. Winnie is so beautiful (the tail!). I know nothing about horses, so I can't comment on anything else, but you do have a very lovely horse. 😊
I love Simon’s philosophy regarding taking things slowly so that the young horse is never over faced, and instead builds confidence by starting them slow and low (also the in hand introduction to certain obstacles is great, and actually something I’d planned to do with one of my more confident horses to see what he thinks of small xc obstacles). Definitely better for the horse to go too slow than too fast and risk ruining their confidence, especially during such a formative training period (young, green, hasn’t done many XC obstacles). Letting the horse go at its own pace and figure some things out for themselves. Keeping the experience calm and positive. All great techniques. Winnie looks mega btw! I bet you’ll have loads of fun eventing her in the future!😊
Tuck'n roll. LOL! This was lovely to watch. It is truly wonderful to see how much Simon as professional 5* rider clearly genuinley just loves horses and riding. His wheee! is life! And Winnie was just a star!
I think doddling around is what is missing in professional horse sports. I saw an older cowboy training a young horse in our rural town going up and down stairs and through traffic with no pressure. It's so good for their brains and the bond between you and them.
Didn't find it boring at all. I LOVE how Simon brings his horses along and takes his time with them taking his cues for advancement from the horse he's riding.
i absolutely ADORE how patient and calm Simon is, it goes to show just how much he cares about his horses mentality which is so so important. It’s a delight to see him working with Winnie and it certainly cements in my head just how horses flourish with kindness. The best horse is a willing one and to achieve that, having a strong foundation and taking it slow is so much more important than pushing. Can’t wait for the rest of vlogmas!
Wow Meg, Your Winnie is a talented little jumper, she loves it and doesn’t show fear of any of the jumps. Simon is so gentle and so encouraging with her that she trusts him completely. Simon has such a nice way about him, especially with the youngsters which is lovely to watch. A lot of equestrians could do with going to simsons yard for a month or so and learn from him 🤔 xx
Wow, Winnie was amazing ❤ She is turning grey, love her tail colour 😊 Simon was great, and he is so right taking it slowly and at their pace. Would love, love, to see Simon riding her again in a few months time ❤
I absolutely love, and I mean love how Simon teaches young ones, we have a very similar mindset, everything is on the horses time. Also, we both say wee, far too much for our own good, when we are just goofing off and having fun, even the baby voice ironically. Think this is going to be an awesome vlogmas Meg! And I have a feeling you are riding one of Simon's horses in the next episode, and if that's the case I am going to be so excited :) .
I just ADORE Simon so so much! The way he works with the horses is so nice! If this video represents this years vlogmas, no doubt it's gonna be the best one
Fantastic vlog. Simon is a joy to watch & what an awesome trainer. His connection with Winnie was really lovely. He is respectful to youngsters, ensuring a mutually cooperative relationship. A great Vlogmas idea🎉
This is so helpful to me! I have a rising 4yo who can be quite nervy and it’s so helpful to have a starting point like this once we do actually start doing these things!
Fantastic to watch Simon on Whinnie. I love his method and agree wholeheartedly to take time and go over everything quite slowly so the horse gains their confidence before moving on to the next level... Love it cant wait to see the next one. Also noticed how much Whinnies colour has changed already, she is changing so fast.. she has such a beautiful temperament
Love your vlogs with Simon! I already loved the way Simon is with horses, but even more now. Keeping things relaxed and building their confidence is the best! And he talks to them exactly how I talk to mine. Please tell him this is the furthest thing from boring!!!
Love that the Vlogmas are back and what a great idea to kick off with Simon!! He's so so talented and now we know why he has such a great connection and energy with his horses!!
Honestly Meg, this video would have to be one of my favorites that you've done! Simon has so much knowledge, kindness and joy! I really loved this video so much! I also love winnie! She's so cool! I look so forward to seeing the rest of vlogmas!
Simon is always my fav guest on your channel. So entertaining & funny and he just has such a lovely kind way about him with the horses. So looking forward to the rest of this year's vlogmas!
Not boring at all! It’s fascinating to see the details of doing it the right way. I could watch it all day. Simon is the horseman we should all emulate
Lovely video! I wish I lived near Simon ... his training methods are wonderful! Meg, you should leave her there for a month. She'll be so confident after 4 weeks with Simon. She is a smart, willing pony! 😊
That was wonderful! I loved that Simon didn’t feel like he needed to impress anyone by pushing a young horse to do more than they should. Walking into things gives them so much time to figure it out.

Awww I love Simon’s narration while riding Winnie. I was constantly giggling
Simon has such a nice way about him, especially with the youngsters which is lovely to watch. A lot of equestrians could do with going to simsons yard for a month or so and learn from him 🤔 xx
I love how Simon talks to the horses! It’s so sweet
Wow, Winnie was amazing ❤ She is turning grey, love her tail colour 😊 Simon was great, and he is so right taking it slowly and at their pace. Would love, love, to see Simon riding her again in a few months time ❤
What a pleasure this was to watch! Simon seems so good to the horses he rides. ❤ Thanks for showing this 😊👍
I absolutely love, and I mean love how Simon teaches young ones, we have a very similar mindset, everything is on the horses time. Also, we both say wee, far too much for our own good, when we are just goofing off and having fun, even the baby voice ironically.
Think this is going to be an awesome vlogmas Meg! And I have a feeling you are riding one of Simon's horses in the next episode, and if that's the case I am going to be so excited :) .
that was amazing, Simon has such a way with horses. His endearments for Winnie were the best thing ever!!
Oo I am so here for Vlogsmas 2024🎉 Simon’s “weee” is contagious 😂 Winnie is so special 😍cannot wait to see what you all get up to!
The slowmo “wheeee”’s are taking me out 😂 I love Simon
I love love love how he talks to them! He makes it so fun and lighthearted and Winnie definitely felt that. Lovely video Meg!
Oh I love the training! Simon's smile while riding around is mega. Good job Simon and Winnie!
Winnie looking so pleased with herself ❤
Ahahahaha "tuck and roll" Luv ya Simon, you put a smile on my face every single time! Winnie did so well Megs, you did a great job bringing her on xx
Not boring at all! It’s fascinating to see the details of doing it the right way. I could watch it all day. Simon is the horseman we should all emulate
Great start to vlog mass. Breath of fresh air seeing a young horse being given the time to mature and learn in an unpressured environment.
Winnie is looking amazing! Simon worked so well with her!
So happy you chose Simon as the first pro! Love his approach with babies, and they got on so well 😊 Wow Winnie is greying more!!
Really enjoyed the pace of this. The calm confidence when learning and teaching is a good example for so much of life.
Love Simons way with her, so calm and gentle ❤ great first vlogmass 🎄
