  • This video shows how to properly replace the cylinder head to thermostat hose on a 2008 e92 328xi. The coolant flange attached to this hose (commonly referred to as the “Mickey Mouse Flange”) is a common failure point on many BMW engines in the “N5X” era. We show you how to replace the entire hose, including the flange. Another option is to simply just replace the flange. This video contains the information to do this on most BMWs with an N51,N52,N54,N55,etc.

U can use foil to make a coolant slide 🛝 and somewhat make the coolant draining less of a mess.

    Great info.
Would this be exactly the same to replace the hose on an N54 engine (2008 E90 335XI sedan model). Thanks.

@@bavhaustv9795 I don't have a battery pack so can I bleed the system with the car running with heater on (and set like you did) for the 12 to 14 minutes? Thanks again.

@@uptownphotography unfortunately it can only be done correctly with the car off. If you have a strong newer battery it should get you through it. If your battery is older at all I’d recommend maybe jumping off another battery or maybe even just connecting to another car to get you through the bleed procedure. -Mike

@@bavhaustv9795 We got the new Mickey Mouse hose on and did the bleed sequence.
Unfortunately, I don't know how, but we have another leak now.
Best I can tell it's one of those two short hoses (One short hose has a very slight elbow type bend and the other short hose is U shaped with a heat shield wrapped around it).
Not sure what happened as it seems like a new leak. Perhaps from the repair (which is not really near that area) or maybe there was an air pocket in the system and one of those 2 hoses burst open. Thanks.

    im reusing hose

What we do when we reuse the hose and just change the adapter is, take a pair of channel lock pliers and compress the old hose right where the Mickey Mouse flange is held, make sure you’re doing this with it facing the ground so as the plastic breaks it doesn’t fall down to the thermostat. Break and remove the old plastic flange, it should be easy to do as these flanges are normally destroyed. Then remove the ring, it should just slide off. After that put your new flange in and use a regular hose clamp instead of the ring. Hope this helps! -Mike

BMW Engs def didn’t give a shit about this part 🤦🏼 u can clearly tell by the 2 random reg style 10mm bolts used . Lol. Every other damn piece of hardware is either torx or machine head Hardware and these 2 bolts are reg domestic bolts.. BMWs are the nicest pieces of shit cars ever!!
