This video will cover how to design templates and use them to have easy repeatable laser engraving projects. The video will cover how to use alignment marks in the design and the locate controls in Lightburn software to make the process easy and straight forward.

Good explanation Rob
Thank you for the positive feedback.
Thank you so much for this video. It was extremely helpful.😊
I am so glad to hear that you found it helpful. That was my goal.
Thanks for the info. A couple of targets and the "Print and Cut' feature should take care of any skew.
Thank you for your comment and insight. I have not had any problem with skewing but will keep what you said in mind.
I like how clearly you explain things.
Thank you so much for that wonderful comment. That is what I am trying to do with the channel - help people learn and be able to have fun with what they learn.
Very helpful Rob! Thank you!
Thank you for the positive feedback.
Great info Rob! I haven't tried the locate feature yet. Anxious to try it.
Thank you Bill. For me that function is incredibly useful.
Thanks Rob. Love the content and your teaching style.
Thank you for the positive feedback.
Rob, Great tips as always! Thanks so much for taking the time to document your videos as it is very helpful! Best Regards, Mike from Denver
Thank you for the positive feedback. That type of feedback keeps me doing it. It is a bit of a pain, but if I can help others I feel it is good pay it forward because I learned so much from others.
Great tricks! I general use cardboard to mark the outline of the object. Works for one offs but not multiples.
Hey Lucky I like to use cardboard also but in this case I had to cut a bunch of these medallions out of plywood so I just turned it into a template. Cardboard works really well and is handy
Thank you Rob, did you make the template on the laser or cnc
Thank you for watching and commenting. The template for this video was made on my laser. In fact, almost all my templates are made on laser. Original design may be made with my CNC software (Vectric vCarve Pro) but then I transfer design into Lightburn to make the physical template on my laser. Hope that makes sense.
@@RobSandstromDesigns Thank you for the reply, that is what I am doing also with V-carve Pro. the laser was just frustrating me, you gave us a great explanation.
Hello! Do you have any videos with instructions on how to upload a premade template then set the cutting and engraving after it's uploaded? I have a template for branded buttons so I need to cut around, cut 2 holes in the middle and then engrave my logo. It's all on the template but I have NO idea how to set up the cut lines so it is consistent. thanks!
I need to know more about what you’re trying to do. Are you indicating you purchased a physical template - i.e. it’s design is not in the laser or did you make a template in the laser and didn’t put laser alignment marks on when you first made the template? I am trying to understand do you have a version of the template in lightburn already or would you need to make the template in Lightburn based on the physical template you already have?
@@RobSandstromDesignsmy designer made a template for me outside of light burn and I need to upload it to light burn and set it up. I have it in a pdf or AI file.
@@user-ky8xb6fw3v Are you wanting information on how you can take the file a designer made for you in pdf or AI format and how to import it into Lightburn so you can use as a template?
The reason I am asking is because if you have a pdf or AI file, they can be imported directly into Lightburn. Once imported you can work with them in lightburn like any other file that is imported. Let me know if you want a short video on how to do this, i could make that video pretty quickly. Basically you go to the File>>>Import menu item and select the file to open. Lightburn acepts the following files: ai, pdf, dxf, svg, as well as many other vector and iage type files.
@@user-ky8xb6fw3v also if you want to email me your file I can make a quick lightburn file for you. Send me the file you want in lightburn. Send the file to robsandstromdesigns@gmail.com
Why do you have quarters scattered around on your honeycomb bed?
Good eye but those aren't quarters. Those are magnets I use as hold offs and to hold things down.
Handy video, thanks.
But, it's "Absolute Coordinates", NOT Absolute Controls ;)
Thank you for catching that. Now that the video is out I can't edit it, I can only pull it down or make it so others can't see it. Think I'll leave it up for now.
