Oh yeah, been doing these snaking blocks for a while now. They are great, and depending on the map you can even fit temples and services such as baths, markets, schools and libraries in the middle of the block, and extra houses on the outside, in order to mix things up a little. Plazas and decorations compensate the desirability enough to reach grand insulae without any issues.
I started playing C3 properly in the early 2010s. I had my phase of building 9x9 and 7x7 blocks, but soon realized that everything was boring and repetitive. The cities looked ugly, and after looking at a few examples on C3 Heaven, I started doing the math without blocks. As long as you know the numbers, you can be creative!
GamerZach actually made me discover force walkers that I abuse when I don't want to make blocks. I love big one-force walker loop cities. I've never made a 9x9 ever. I used to do a lot of 20x5 blocks before Augustus and Julius was a thing.
Hey, play as you like of course. Zakh has let lot of people know about the game so thats all fine. As i said i dont like the FW and 9x9 epidemic where actual good blocks get left out since its harder to make them. I feel like lot of people are misled like this to see FW as the ultimate answer without realizing that it basically defeats the purpose of the game. Not having to have almost any services is too much. As i said at the start play as you want but for me i dont like them.
The one problem i have with the 22x6 ist the asymmetry. So I changed it to 20x7 (and 18x7 for 3x3 villas and palaces). I just can't have a 2 wide space for fountains ;-)
@@theoneandonlyboiler if symmetry is that big of a deal for you then this might work but keep in mind that the Middle is 2 dead space for a reason. Not only saving space but also making walkers more reliable due to how they percive distance. With wider Middle you might need ahorter blocks or 2 sets of services which brings Down efficiency a ton.
@@commissarmarek-main-channel Thanks for the reply. As 20x7 is the same number of tiles around as 22x6 - it's 58 in both cases - I figured walkers wouldn't care. Do they react differently to 22x6 and 20x7?
@@theoneandonlyboiler yeah so its not just the number of tiles they walk. This is to do with the fact roaming walkers also pick destinations but its way less noticable. Its 8 tiles in all directions from spawn. So if block is wider they cover it less reliably

Yah I was doing 9x9 but now I do new designs after your video. Thanks

9*9 sucks because it reminds me of crappy American grid blocks
Hi. How do you see where walkers can reach when building services?
Hey, its in the setting "preview walker paths"

Never seen Caesar 3 taken so seriously lol
When you get into the custom maps it gets much more intense than the campaign or sandbox maps. :)
Thanks, Marek!
9x9 are obiously trash, however, the game is all about your own challanges, so let ppl be
Play how you want but to me the game is about what the map brings to challenge you. And i can have my own opinion as well, many other people agree.
