    We just bought our truck two weeks ago, and hubby is overseas so he isnt "learning" all this new stuff with me. I had no idea about this, I thought it was shifting funny and you just explained everything!!! I'd rather it be in 1 freaking mode instead of switching back and forth!!! I may get this for a smoother ride!!! Ty!!!

    I just put this device on my 2009 Silverado 1500 with a 2" level kit and 32" tires. The V4 mode was driving me crazy. Horrible throttle response, shuddering, and all the "issues" that came along with that mode. After just a few miles of driving with the range plugged in, the gas mileage has already improved and has not left V8 mode. Best purchase I've ever made that wasn't for cosmetics. Next purchase is pipes!

    I have an 07 Silverado, stock, and I've used the "Range" for about 5 yrs. now. The shifting back and forth was crazy before it was disabled and I really don't see a difference in the mileage. Some tanks, depending what I do, gets better mileage in V8 mode. This was a stupid idea GM came up with and the way the mechanism works on shutting down 4 cylinders is part of the reason for the earlier ones to consume oil. GM said it was normal but now they admit that it isn't and they will fix it provided you haven't gone over 100,000 miles or 5 yrs. In other words for an 07 I would have to pay for the fix myself. So, yes , on the older ones you are better off keeping it in V8 mode. The newer ones such as the 2018 you have here, they did improve the fuel management but you are still better off in V8 mode. The same one I use in the 07 also worked in my sons, 2016 Gm Silverado. Hope this info helps.

    I'm driving the 2019 5.3, and I live in South Louisiana. I find traveling I10 East or West, from Lafayette, LA to Mobile, AL, the V4 mode helps tremendously when the truck is lightload(empty) and the cruise control is set. In those perfect conditions, flat roads, no incline, no load and steady consistent speed is when the V4 mode helps tremendously(+ few miles to the gallon)... And the truck was completely stock when that traveling was taking place.. Outside of those perfect conditions, I feel the truck does better as a fulltime V8. Now that I've added the K&N Cold Air Intake, Catback Dual(Borla Atak) Exhaust system, 3.5" lift with 22" wheels wrapped with 35" tires, I don't get the couple extra miles to the gallon extra when I do happen to travel the flat interstate once in a while but overall, I find my fuel mileage stays on the better side of the average in constant V8 mode with the bigger tires and wheels vs the V4/V8 mode when the truck was stock.

    i bought it for my 2011 silverado 1500 and i really like it. the truck runs better but i do not feel a difference on throttle response or that the transmission shifts differently, some people wrote that on other youtube videos. my mpg has not changed after now 200 miles. before 15,4 mpg, now 15.5 mpg. and i had no check engine lights or other problems with it. my range version is 8.6.

    I’m a GM tech, thinking of getting the module for aftermarket exhaust and being shift busy.
    If someones only reason on getting one is because of lifters I wouldn’t worry to much about it. Older ones perhaps but 14-19 no.
    We work 90% on trucks living in the country and have only seen a handful of bad cams and lifters. If you want something to be concerned about it’s injectors - a lot more common than lifters on the 14-19s
    And we don’t care if you have the module warranty wise. But wouldn’t hurt to remove it just in case your dealer has different opinions.

      @egertonridout4102 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      A Fairn 13-13 I bought one for my 2010 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and I'm glad that I did, due to reviews of collapse lifters and cam. I also have an custom exhaust on my truck. I run 5 quarts of 5w30 Mobil 1 full synthetic oil and one Lucas pure synthetic oil stabilizer and a pf78e actually Delco oil filter. I have noticed on a cold morning after the truck sits 3 days in my yard, the truck at start would hesitate start and then would sputter for 2 seconds and then it would idle fine. I called Lucas and asked them about there new product Lucas Low Viscosity Oil Stabilizer for low Viscosity engines and oil. I told them what I had and was experiencing with the Lucas Pure synthetic oil stabilizer and they told me that they had done test on the Pure synthetic oil stabilizer and they had experience the same issue with the engines with AFM and VVT and the gentleman that I talked to suggested to on my next oil change to change to the low Viscosity Oil Stabilizer and I should have NO issues. I'm going to take his word, cause they know there product and he told me in there testing with the pure synthetic oil stabilizer that there engine in testing was doing the same. So with all that said, and you being a GM tech, do you agree with what I said? I'm using Lucas in my engine for preventive maintenance! Thanks

    • @andrewfairn2815
      @andrewfairn2815 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Egerton Ridout for sure, good call on the 2010. They seemed to get most of the bugs worked out on the 14+. Still see the odd one but will always get a few. There is also a GM bulletin I believe to replace the valve cover /Pcv to help with burning engine oil. And as far as using the Lucas go for it. It’s a hell of a lot better than the bulk oil most dealers use.

    • @egertonridout4102
      @egertonridout4102 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      A Fairn 13-13 far as the Lucas, do you agree with the representative that I talked to about using the Lucas Low Viscosity Oil Stabilizer over the Lucas Pure synthetic oil stabilizer? I believe that the Lucas Pure synthetic oil stabilizer makes the oil a little thicker at cold start up than the Lucas Low Viscosity Oil Stabilizer does? I also talked to an Lucas Viscosity Expeert and he suggested me to use the Lucas Low Viscosity Oil Stabilizer in the Winter months and Lucas Pure synthetic oil stabilizer in the summer months! To me, I'm just gonna use the Lucas Low Viscosity Oil Stabilizer all year long. What's your opinion? Thanks for your feedback back!

    • @andrewfairn2815
      @andrewfairn2815 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Egerton Ridout in all honesty, it seems like you’ve done more research on this than I have. If you feel confident in the product ( I have never seen an issue with any Lucas product ) then go for it. As long as it meets the specs then giver.

    • @egertonridout4102
      @egertonridout4102 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      A Fairn 13-13 one more question, then I won't bother you anymore, with me already using the Lucas Pure synthetic oil stabilizer in my truck now, and I decide to change my trucks oil and use the new Lucas Low Viscosity Oil Stabilizer, do you think that I would start to use or burn any oil by switching, cause the stabilizer is thinner between the 2? Thank you sir

    I bought and have used the Range AFM Disabler before I learned that I can set my transmission to M5 and never have to worry about V4 mode activating at all. I use manual mode especially around town. If I'm in a 35 mph residential are before I take off I drop it to Low use the + button to change from 1st to 3rd. Then, the truck never shifts higher than 3rd gear and will never go into V4 mode. On 45 mph roads I use M4 so it never shifts higher than 4th gear and will never go into V4 mode.
    The great thing about going manual is that when you come out of a 35 mph and are going into a 55 mph and ease down on the throttle there's no hesitation. No lag due to computer communicating with the transmission to determine what gear you should be in because you're already in it. 3rd! It instantly powers right up and takes right off. You will of course have to + into 4th to get it to shift up. It won't do it itself.
    Going manual is a great way to hold your gears longer. Drive mode is computer controlled and its configured for economy. Not performance. I have a 355 HP V8. I want performance. I paid for performance. If I was worried about fuel economy I would have bought a Prius or some other tree-hugger POS.
    Then of course there's the joy of manually downshifting. Once you've figured out your truck and know when it's ok to downshift manually by pressing the - button. The computer actually rev-matches for you just like you'd do in a '60's or 70's muscle car with higher HP and a Muncie 4 speed. With a good after market exhaust that rev-matched downshift sounds pretty damn cool just like a classic muscle car and because it rev-matches the RPM's you won't tear shit up. Just learn your truck before you go playing with manual downshifting.
    I use use the Range when I plan on doing some highway miles. With the Range, my truck can shift up to 6th, it's highest gear without suddenly going in and out of V4 mode. V8 all the time! The only way to go.
    P.S for those of you concerned about the Range voiding your warranty.. I use the range. I just had to take my truck into Chevy. Unplugged the Range when I got there. They ran a full diagnostics. The only thing they found was a firmware update for my transmission. That's it.

    Next time you are at the gas pump, add one to two ounces of TC-W3 Outboard 2-Cycle Engine Oil (ashless) per every five gallons of gasoline to your gas tank, then drive it around on cruise control when possible at 44 miles per hour (you must first bring the speed to around 48 mph to get it into a higher gear then let the speed fall back to 43-45 mph) and you will be able to enjoy 35 - 40 mpg fuel economy consistently if traffic is flowing (not bumper to bumper).
    When at the gas pump, first add the 2-cycle oil to the gas tank, then fill the gas tank with regular gas, that way the gasoline will mix with the oil as it falls into the gas tank (do not fill with gas and then add the oil).
    I also purchased my AFM Range Disabler about 2 years ago, and all is well, the truck runs on all 8 cylinders, except when the engine is off :)
    I do my oil changes every 5000 miles, it makes me feel better.
    I have added strong magnets (2) to the outside of the motor oil filter also, which can be removed and placed on the new filter on every oil change, to retain inside the filter as many metal fillings as possible instead of having them flowing inside the engine.

    I've had my range device for about 6 months on my 2017. I've never taken it off and have never seen a check engine light. I couldn't handle the things that came with V4 mode especially with an aftermarket exhaust and all of the transmission 'slip' feel. Also prior to the module when I would slam on the gas and it would hesitate real hard before going. That no longer happens either.

    I had a 2008 and ran AFM for 75000mi. It started using oil to the tune of about a quart every 1000 miles or so depending on how much highway time was on it. I then disabled it and drove it to 235k miles in V8 only. Rarely lost much more oil after that and switching to Schaeffer oil. Sold it and bought a 2016 AT4 Sierra with 26k on the clock...you bet I'll be deleting that ridiculous gimmick. Oh...and so far as MPG? Yeah...I GAINED MPG after disabling that whole mess.

    Had 60000 miles now had to replace the pistons,valves, cam,oil pump. He is a gm mechanic and he said even the new ones gave the same problems. Nothing has changed.
    If you have one of these and plan to keep it the v4 has to be removed or sooner or later the engine will be damaged.

    V4 mode is a joke. If it save any fuel at all it is a tiny amount. The weight of the truck is the same. The rotational mass of the engine and drivetrain are the same. Even though 4 cylinders aren't firing the 4 that are have to fire with enough energy to rotate the 4 that are off.

    • @CasperRc81
      @CasperRc81 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Your kind of missing it by then your torque converter is locked up. Doing so the drive train spinning helps with the rotation of the added four cylinders not firing. Also it’s hard to stop even 4pistons in fire. Granted there is a turbo on the four cylinder but new Silverados come with four cylinders. I have a 2014 4x4 with a little 2.5” lift and 32.5’s ko2’s and it goes into v4 and holds like it did with the stock 30” tires. Also if I need to slam on the gas I press down lightly to give the lifters a chance to open up instead of putting the load on the engine at that time. Every no and then I hear light lifter tap but not enough for me to stress. I experienced the same noise on my 4.8L. If that Becomes and issue gm claims 200k on their timing chains. If the ending makes it that far I’ll put in a standard lifters while changing the timing chain.

    Noticed that you mentioned that your truck went into limp mode using the Range Disabler? I think that I have noticed that also with mine, maybe if we are talking about the same thing. My truck happens when I let it sit for a couple of days and I get ready to cold start up it would start and then sputter for about 10 to 15 seconds and then clear up and then run smooth at idle, like it was starving for gas or a dead cylinder or bad spark plugs! What do you think or what I described about my truck doing, is that what you had done to your truck? I'm not sure if my issue is do to my range Disabler. I have had my Disabler plugged in for a year, where I live, my state has emissions, so I took my truck to get it's year emissions and the guy hooked up his scanner and it didn't pass. I drove the truck up the road to clear the computer and man, I hate the v4 mode with custom exhaust. It is so choppy, but luckily I drove the truck 5 miles up the road and came back to the shop and the shop hooked up the scanner again, and Lord behold, all of the emissions tables has passed. So my advice using the Disabler, and your state has emissions, you need to drive the your truck a couple of miles to have your computer to reset. On Range Technology website, they do recommend to do what I did before emissions, so they do know there product!

    Where i noticed my afm at its worst was coming to a stop. The last couple seconds before it would come to a complete stop, it would vibrate and shutter like crazy. I thought transmission, i thought brakes, tires, the road, everything. Every single stop. And what's happening is when you are stopping its in V4 mode, but it needs to switch to v8 mode to accelerate. So its switching back to V8 right before complete stop. So basically half the motor is cranking up right when you stop, hence all the noise and vibration. Did the same thing most times when doing a rolling stop and accelerating, like turning at an intersection.

    I just got an 07 Tahoe (4" lift, LT285/55R20BFGs) so I have almost zero experience with AFM but in support of it, here's my results:
    I asked previous owner how many kms to empty after filling and he said 550, while I got 408 kms (Costco toptier gas) on my first tank with almost no highway driving. Filled again with small co. gas and almost same kms to empty (414 km). What I did notice after a 100 km highway trip is that my distance to empty was still at 414 km. While I believe the Fuel Range meter can fluctuate, I reset the trip meter at fill-up on the second tank of fuel to get a rigid number when I get to empty
    Outside of the mechanical failure that can occur, I think that many of you guys are biased towards it because you love V8 floorage lol

    Have had this on my truck for a year now. Gas mileage has increased for me and i'm leveled as well. I haven't had any check engine lights come on. Not having it on has made my truck ride smoother and not feel like its dogging out in a lower gear.
    Why would i buy a v8 truck that always runs in v4....

    Please lift the rear or drop the front lol. I will never understand that “look”. Truck would look really good being level.

    Put Bilstein 5100 highest setting on fronts with 33's and it's been shifting from v4 to v8 way more than when it was stock. So annoying. traffic was crawling at 30ish MPH yesterday and it was hell how much it was shuddering. Hopefully this module will fix it

    I don’t know half as much about my truck as this guy does, but if it tricks the truck into thinking it has a load isn’t that bad for the transmission which I hear for these models are under serious heat with the exhaust being right up on it?

    You have to run oil catch cans on these new truck I have the worst years for v4 mode and that's the 2007.5-2013 but I disabled afm and have a catch can have about 80,000 miles on my truck running perfect

      Put a catch can and clean side separator on my 17 High Country 6.2L from new you wouldnt believe the shit that it catches. Have no issues with V4 or V8 mode leaving it the way it is.
