I have a Champion 40 at my rehearsal space and it's been satisfactory so far with only one single gripe: you cannot have the reverb together with the other effects, the same as you. I do mostly cleans with very few exceptions.
I scored two LT-25s for 75 bucks each a few years ago. One is still in the box, but I've ordered an AB/Y box, and I'm hoping running both at the same time could be useable for small gigs. One surprising thing I've noticed about the LT-25 is my acoustic sounds pretty good through it, at least at bedroom volume. I love the tuner, as well!
Fender should certainly fixed the reverb and tremolo on the Champion 2. The reverb /delay setting on the Champ is wonderful. it really opens up a clean tone. I love my Champion. Not sure if Im going to upgrade to a Champion 2.
I've owned both, and you pretty much nailed the differences. Never did the speaker swap, though. I'm not good at tinkering with amps, and it's probably not worth paying someone to do.
As a pedal platform I would go with the Champion over the Mustang, but even better would be a simple analog solid-state amp like a used Fender Frontman 25R or a Peavey Envoy 110. Those both have outstanding cleans and the Fender even has real spring reverb.

Sweet! And yes, I've run my Taylor through the LT25 with good results as well.

@@danpalmer4820 Thanks, Dan!
Do they take pedals well? If I can get a good clean and reverb, and use something on the floor for comp, od, modulation and delay echo...I'm good.
