I have to assume the only people who didn't recognize Scott's voice within a few seconds are people who have no idea who they even are. I've never watched that show, is it always that obvious or are we the weirdos?
You know, there's no mistaking Scott's voice - even though they tried to change it up singing a song they're already famous for but completely differently and pulling back on their signature harmonies. The bartender clue threw me off though. But totally PTX. No mistaking it, and at least one judge figured that out right away. I've actually been looking for them to be on this show since season 1.
Fun fact about the Cher song. Cher has been singing LONG before autotune was a thing. She was being given a tour of a state of the art facility and the tech showed her the new program 'autotune'. He showed her that they had a slider that could fix minor problems in a recording. Cher asked, 'what happens if you push the slider all the way.' the tech didn't know so they tried it. The effect in 'Believe' was the result and she liked it so much so recorded a song with that slider on.
Matt, the bass, has a degree in vocal music performance from Berklee College of Music, one of the top 10 music schools in the US. He was Mr. Bass everything at the school by the time he was a senior. He can flat out sing anything. Kevin, the beat boxer has a degree from Yale I do believe in pre-med, came in 2nd in a YoYo Ma cello competition and speaks how many languages including Mandarin.
Got my tickets to my 4th PTX concert for this summer. Can not wait to see them again!!!!!! Went to my 1st Christmas concert. It was wonderful!!!!! You should try to go to their concert if you can. You will love it!
If you want to know how talented kevin olusola, the beat boxer is, you have to react to his version of DOWN. He plays his cello, beatboxes, sings, overlays sounds all st once.
Treat yourself to a concert of there's and you will be a fan forever. I saw them years ago twice in Chicago....the BEST money I have ever spent...it was EPIC.
I am finally seeing them in concert this summer! I am so excited. Not only are they insanely talented & impressive but, they sing all different genres so it'll be like seeing multiple groups & solo singers in one concert.
A concert series would be fun. Especially for those of us who cannot go to concerts. 🥰 Please make sure you go to a Home Free concert! You will TRULY enjoy yourself. 🥰
Matt, the bass, can sure sing. (And so did his predecessor, Avi) He's even lead on You're A Mean One, Mr. Grinch and you can also get a good sample of his vocal range on The Sound of Silence
Britt, no idea why, a year later...for the vast majority of this reaction, I was literally clapping! You're stunning, sly, sharp and get it. I hope you got to any of their concerts. :)
Scott loved those glasses. There were shots of him wearing them offstage. Have you heard his solo single Mars? Matt is the bass, not the beatboxer, although I think there are one or two songs where he has picked up the rhythm so Kevin could do something else - their cover of Havana, for instance (and you should react to that one - awesome). PTX were children in the 90s too! :) (Except for Matt, who is a couple of years younger.). Yay for PTX concert! We'll be going this summer as well. I'd love to hear your reaction to them live.
Thank you for the great reaction to this fun Pentatonix video. Going to both Pentatonix concert locations is a good idea. They are amazing live and you will want to see them more than once. The concert vlog is also a good idea. I would love to watch your vlog of your concert experiences.
The Five Faces of New Pentaholics 1. The most common is the Mitch Slapped. Commonly found when Mitch is heard for the first time in Hallelujah, The Prayer, Can You Feel the Love Tonight, and doing Aha! at the Star Vista. 2. The Wide Eyed Look of Disbelief. Normally found when you hear their Wall of Sound. Found when listening to Mary Did You Know, Imagine, Amazing Grace, The Prayer and Mad World. 3. The I Didn’t Want It to End face. Most commonly found after listening to the 90s Dance Medley. It can also be found after listening to all their medleys and evolutions. 4. The Teary Eyed Look. This is commonly found when listening to an emotional song of theirs or just the sheer beauty of their work. Commonly found when listening to Mary Did You Know, Hallelujah, Amazing Grace, Imagine, The Prayer, Prayers for This World and most especially Thank You. 5. The What Did I Just Hear Face. Happens when Pentatonix starts strong, or when you hear a really special note or Kevin sound. Is usually accompanied by rewinding the video or song to make sure your ears really heard what they heard. Those times are too many to list, but the most common rewind at the start moment is the beginning of Sound of Silence.
All their medley tributes are amazing . They are so seemless , which is amazing because normally groups use instruments to do this, but they are using their vocals. Vocally, they are all demi gods and we are just mortals that stand in awe.
The beatboxer, Kevin, is also a great cello player. He’s played it in their songs with Lindsey Stirling and for Dancing on My Own which they did after their original bassist announced he was leaving.
Kevin the beatboxer has some vocals on him too, you can get a glimpse of them on their rendition of Amazing Grace, Imagine, Mary did you know. He’s a very talented man
They are there on my birthday. Unfortunately, I don't live in Atlanta. Matt, the bass, does sing! He takes the lead in their Christmas song Mr. Grinch.
Concert series would be fun, and PTX concerts are seriously CRAZY GOOD!! Yes both sing and really, really well. LOL. They need to do a medley for EVERY Year!! That would be awesome.
Matt (the bass) sometimes sings lead because Scott (the tall blonde one with shades) can cover the bass for him. Kevin (the beatboxer) is a tenor and can sing really well too, but he does it less often because nobody else can cover the beat like he does
To hear more of Matt, check out You're a Mean One Mr. Grinch, The Sound of Silence or Come Along. To hear more of Kevin, check out Mary, Did You Know?, A Little Space or his cover of Down on his own TH-cam channel (Kevin Olusola)
@@hcroussette I concur! Mr. Grinch, Sound of Silence, Come Along for Matt, Down & A Little Space for Kevin, and "I should tell your mama on you" for Scott, "Water" for Kirsten, and "Gold" for Mitch. As well, "can't hold us", "dance of the sugarplum fairy", "the prayer", "over the river", and their duet with Dolly Parton for "Jolene"!!!!!
Absolutely! NOBODY can cover the beat like Kevin does! But when needed, Mitch can step in and do surprisingly well. For an example, see "Havana." When Kevin "plays the trumpet," Mitch takes over the beatboxing.
Great reaction! I truly believe that if anyone doesn't dance along to this, then you don't have a musical bone in your body. It's phenomenal! And yes Matt has a beautiful bass voice (but can actually sing high too!) and Kevin has a beautiful tenor voice too as well as beatboxing and playing the cello!
Their bass is now Matt Salle. He can also make other sounds like Avi could. Kevin Olusola is their beat-boxer and a renaissance man of the highest caliber. You will learn this as you go. Listen to his solo effort (literally) of the song DOWN. It is music production while you wait...an amazing feat of talent. Be well dear, Duke
I lived under a rock through most of the nineties, I was still stuck in the eighties. So I am not familiar with most of these songs in their original form. I have heard this Pentatonix mix hundreds of times. So when I do hear one of these songs somewhere now, it seems weird that it does not change to the next song where it's supposed to. Like the Pentatonix arrangement IS The Song the way it's supposed to go.
Possibly the best reaction to this I've ever seen XD. Likewise I grew up in the 90s so I recognized all but one of these songs, but some I didn't hear until my highschool years so thought they were early 2000s. Not really one to voice what an artisit should do but god I want them to make this a full album!
For me otherwise, like the worst, overreacted and a bit strange. Not as she usually reacts to... not focusing much on their singing, more on the songs choice and if she knows them.
Seriously! You need to react to Pentatonix “Happy Now!” Your filter of raindrops on a window matches perfectly with their video. Maybe just “lighten” your filter a titch so as not to confuse folks…or change your filter for that reaction. But really listen to the lyrics of this Original song, because we’ve ALL been there before!
They first performed this live at their September 2022 Hollywood Bowl concert. Check out the livestream version. It is even better than the studio version.
i am happy you chose to react to this video ~ and, though i have never seen PTX in concert, i can only imagine what a lovely experience it would be. i 1000% support your idea to check out in-person live events from artists you've learned about through yr channel. be well, lovely & big hugs from Chicago :')
Going to their concert/experiencing them live has been on my bucket list for so long. I got to cross it off December 11, 2022!!!! There aren’t enough descriptive words to describe how incredible it was! 😭 If you (or anyone reading this) get the opportunity, GO!
I think it's important for a group like PTX that you go back to the beginning of Thier career and actually see how they came together, and how the journey has effected the group over time 🤷🏼♂️
We all want Scott's glasses and a whole album of this. There is a video that shows the side by side of ptx with the original. It is so tight and there are only 5 voices on ptx side
This one is so much fun, brings back memories like nobodys business. Now you really only have one "huge" Pentatonix song left to react to and it's their version of The Prayer. Hope to see it here on the channel.
Matt sings in every song just as Avi did when he was in the group. Kevin, the beat boxer sings in a few songs and occasionally sings some lead lines. He can sing as high as Mitch does and he’s incredibly talented.
Matt Sallee is also a mean drummer! If you haven't seen it yet, RUSH to watch "Kevin's Fifth"--his show-stopping performance on the current concert tour! Britt, if you're still reading the comments, mark that one down as a must-see! There's no official video (hoping there will be eventually) but there are live videos.
That was nice to hear them do sonique's it feels so good. I think she is beautiful and I fell in love with the song so my boyfriend went out to buy it for me.
I think one of my favorite performances of theirs is "Amazing Grace" and "The Prayer", and if you haven't already, check out some more of their older medleys...The Evolution of Michael Jackson is stellar :)
Yes please go see them live! Somehow it’s even better than their official videos. They are so good. I had the pleasure of seeing them in November for their first show if their holiday tour and then I get to go see them in September in Mountain View!!! I am so excited to go hear them perform some of their non Christian music.
I will never forget that Cher song, came out my senior year of high school, I first heard it the day after my boyfriend dumped me (Valentine's Day btw). I was wallowing in self-pity, out for a take-your-mind-off-it drive with some friends, then I heard this song on the radio and I was like you know what, Cher, you are so right! Felt so much better after that.
Someone may have commented this already, but Mitch, Kristin, and Matt knew each other from high school, at least, maybe earlier. The other two, Kevin and Avi at first, were added Then when Avi decided to leave, Matt.
other than ptx going on tour this summer. i'd like to see you go to tom's, he's setting up his summer tour now. much luv!!! (i wanna see tom and nova live really bad) in real life experience i mean.
If you like the deep bass lines that Avi had, you also might enjoy Tim Foust and the group Homefree as well as Geoff Castellucci and the group VoicePlay. As a bass singer myself, those three are some of my role models and inspirations.
For more on Kevin (the beatboxer) singing, check out their Evolution of Michael Jackson, Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Broken), Imagine, and Mary Did You Know and for some other good stuff their other Evolutions are awesome
Had no idea he could sing... Remember what group you're listening to; someone who couldn't sing exceptionally well could never contribute like this in this incredible group. And as others have said, Kevin is also a fabulous singer with a beautiful tenor voice. He's got solo work that is incredible. Check out Down on his KO channel.
If you want to REALLY appreciate their talents, look for the videos from their Hollywood Bowl live concert. You would realize that, while there is indeed some audio processing, there is not as much as you might think. You asked about the singers. Matt normally takes the bass line, but he has a really nice lyric bass voice, and Kevin - the beat boxer - sings a nice mid-high tenor. When Matt takes lead, Scott (blond guy) has a really low baritone range and can take over the bass line for a while.
Wow, you're so beautiful! And your reaction was so fun and full of energy. You remind me of my best friend from high school! 3:48 lol your non reaction to the beginning of 'every time we touch' makes me realize I must be so much older than you 😂😅 7:01 well maybe not! You're jammin to Cher ❤
The common consensus with this one is that no one wants it to end LOL. I love how you were vibing to it. This is one of my favorite medleys of theirs. If you want to see them do it live, check out their Hollywood Bowl concert from just last year th-cam.com/video/U10A4ijmEH4/w-d-xo.html
I had NOT seen this one until today!!!! SO GLAD to get to experience it for the first time with you!!! :)
you are really fun to watch / listen to!!! really glad to have discovered your channel!
They are incredible in person
They're on Masked Singer this season. The California Rolls. Recognized Scott's voice immediately.
I have to assume the only people who didn't recognize Scott's voice within a few seconds are people who have no idea who they even are. I've never watched that show, is it always that obvious or are we the weirdos?
@Caz A We're just hard-core fans, lol. and weirdos...
I was just coming to say this lol

Ok, ty!!! Me to and his hand thing he does as well!!!
Britt watching your reviews is so much fun your smile is beautiful and so are you
Takes me back to my clubbing days in college! Loved 90s dance music!

I'm seeing them in Indiana in August! Can't wait! I think that you should follow through on the Concert Blog idea!
🔥🔥🔥🔥🎼 hawwtt 🎼🔥🔥🔥🔥
nostalgic
Cher's Believe was released in 1998 and is supposedly the first use of autotune.
This was so much fun Brit! You need to do a danc party live stream!!!
They are AMAZING LIVE!!
You should check out their "Sound of Silence" and "Can you feel the love tonight" covers.

They all sing. If you like Cher's Believe, Adam Lambert does an AMAZING cover of it at the Kennedy Center Honors where she was one being honored.
Ella Hendersons cover on x factor is pretty special too
I was just going to suggest Adam Lambert's cover. Britt, you will be shocked!
Spoiler alert....Adam makes Cher cry!!
Every reactor has said the same thing, we need it to last longer.
I love how this was more of a dance party than it was a reaction haha. You're just getting your groove on. Love it!! 😄
Yes to the concert series.
If you want to know how talented kevin olusola, the beat boxer is, you have to react to his version of DOWN. He plays his cello, beatboxes, sings, overlays sounds all st once.

"Believe" by Cher was the first song to bring autotune to the pop charts I think. She is such a legend
They did a superbe cover of "The prayer", very different to this but equally stunning

So cute. You obviously a 90's baby. You knew most of them.
I’m going August 23 at SPAC
Saratoga Springs Ny
Wow, you're so beautiful! And your reaction was so fun and full of energy. You remind me of my best friend from high school!
3:48 lol your non reaction to the beginning of 'every time we touch' makes me realize I must be so much older than you 😂😅
7:01 well maybe not! You're jammin to Cher ❤
Song No.3, ATC - Around the world, is not really a 90s song. It was released in may 2000. But it sounds so amazing, what else!
