    when i was younger, i imagined a life with the "big dogs", going from city to city on business, having a large house and a night life. Now after all the "noise", both at work and at home, all i want is a debt free life, a safe small home, a healthy diet and lifestyle, a non-toxic inner circle, and everything within walking distance. i just want to see the sun shine.

    In the words of the late Alan Watts. “The meaning of life is just to be alive. It is so plain and so obvious and so simple. And yet, everybody rushes around in a great panic as if it were necessary to achieve something beyond themselves.”

    As a freelancer, I’ve realized over the years that I have fallen into the “if you’re not hustling, you’re worthless” mindset and therefore the idea of a “simple” life feels like a colossal failure. Thank you for putting a different spin on it, detailing what that actually entails, and offering this very healthy perspective. I think it will help me a lot going forward as I try to “deprogram” myself.

    Some people tell to control/ reduce sleep, others say to increase it.
    Some people tell to earn more money, others say to stay low because money cant buy happiness.
    Some people tell to be more social, others say to be less.

It's good to be ambitious in your 20s, achieve all you can, go through the hardest labor you can endure, trial by elimination of earned lessons and experiences but take heed of the wisdom which accumulates years of other's struggles that you have yet to endure, and mantle yourself as a giver back to those around you to help perpetuate what is amassed material and hard work that keeps a standard of living, health and opportunity possible

We're all so tired from school work and extra curriculars that the way we spend our free time is mostly through passive entertainment--watching videos and TV for hours, instead of giving our mind rest. The mind needs rest...I lock myself up in my room without books, without phone, without music. I just sit, close my eyes, and I rest. Some people call it meditation. I just call it rest, or restfullness. The more I do it, the more I notice my 'system' desires peace, silence... nothingness. It's a wonderful feeling, to just be able to sit and come to a certain peace of mind. I Just observe my thoughts and emotions without trying to push them away. They are there, floating around, but they don't bother me so much because I am in 'rest-mode'. I try to do this every day 10 minutes. And I must say it changed my life for the better.

  • @TheKeuliMeuli

    finding that sweet balance between active and passive growth might have been the most rewarding thing I've tried to achieve in my life so far. what a great feeling not to be afraid of those thoughts at 3am and not to wake up anxious because I fear I'm running out of time for all the tasks of the week. I might lose it sometimes, but there's always a way back, we just all have to figure out which way brings us there for ourselves

    • @LoadingRetroGames
      @LoadingRetroGames 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      This may sound a stupid question, but what exactly do you do to achieve this ?

    • @TheKeuliMeuli
      @TheKeuliMeuli 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@LoadingRetroGames not stupid, I'm still struggling as well! For me, most important part is to be able to listen to my feelings. I try to put my intuition first. If something drains me, I'll try to do something rewarding afterwards. If I experience awful days, I'll try not to put the blame on me. There might be a good reason for my hurt, even if it is just to protect myself. I'll try not to judge myself, but listen as if I was a reasonable agent (which we all are).
      Obviously, it's not as easy and it's effort, which is why I'm not always able to or wanting to take a break and listen first. But I always feel the overwhelming need to make space for my feelings and thoughts after some period of not listening to myself. It's a journey, as life goes on, you will have to adjust and grow, and that's ok and you can do it.
      Practically, what helps me take a step back to come to myself: therapy, yoga, long walks in nature, meditation, cooking, having people to speak my unfiltered mind to. Most importantly: not juding myself if I can't be bothered to take care, but actually listening, if I end up wanting to again.
      But, I think the way how to come to peace with your feelings and learn how to react to them in a healthy manner is something everyone has to do for themselves. Different things work for different people. And it's not going to be perfect, struggles exist and we don't have to eliminate them, just learn how we as persons can overcome them

      Exactly. I'm 40 years old and live in the center of beautiful Heidelberg Germany. I inhabit a flat with 2 students, to save money. I can walk to work (ICU nurse), but I have an old used bike for less then 200 bucks. I don't need to travel. Heidelberg is paradise. No car, no kids. I only work part time so I have enough money for my hobbies: Bouldering, Running, Gaming on Sony PlayStation and Nintendo Switch (when our house burns down, I can't lose those games, I own them in the cloud). Life is beautiful nowadays, why would I waste it at work. I only buy cloths when I really need them, mostly cheap.
      You can eat healthy for 5 bucks a day (coffee included). I consider whole grain pasta to be healthy, but you should have them split up in to maximum 2 meals a day, and with a good amount of healthy plant seed oils (I prefer olive). Other than that I eat nuts and vegetables. Only drink water, coffee, and tea without milk or sugar. If you're vegan have your vit.B12 and a good source of omega-3 fatty acids (like algae oil), maybe vit.D if you're a nightshift worker or not out in the sun much, and you're good. I'm 40 years old, athletic, everyone thinks I'm much younger. Take good care of your bodies folks and enjoy life 💟

    • @Shrraddha__
      @Shrraddha__ ปีที่แล้ว

      @@1225elb not that u asked me but I wanted to answer😅 I think it could mean different things for different people. But when we hear minimalism we first picture "less things" right? It shouldn't just be about less things but the emphasis should be on things that we absolutely require, the basics, sometimes we purchase a lot of things because we see other people doing it. My best friend's closet is full of clothes and I used to be so upset that I don't hv that many clothes, but then I came to know that she buys a lot of cheap clothes, and that's why she was able to buy so many. Quality over quantity, that's one thing I came to know about myself. And also it shouldn't be all about things, but minimalism can be seen in a person's mindset, their lifestyle, the things they do, their friends and family, evrywhere. I am trying to be a minimalist, tbh it wasn't the concept itself that attracted me to be a minimalist, it is because of... anxiety maybe. I feel this intense regret when I buy smth that I surely know that I don't need it. Like a skincare product that is currently a trend. I knew about poverty but I think in the last few years, I saw poverty around me, maybe I am too sympathetic idk, but buying things for myself always reminds me that there are so many people out there who can't even feed themselves so this feeling stops me from buying unnecessary items. Sorry for the explanation 😅 I tend to do that. Anyway please do share your story. What's your take on minimalism?

    I'm on vacations right now. The day before it I had a mental breakdown in the office. My life had been so far filled with dealing with many struggles and problems in my family, and with those more or less solved the stress and anxiety started catching up on me. My boss became much more demanding in order to leave someone doing the most critical on my job (such is the nature of Accounting) and recently I had been rejected by my crush. Facing the fact I have made the same mistakes over and over, and realize how everyone around me is moving on with their lives while I feel stuck in mine, and how I've been so for years... that's what ultimately had me.

    Segmenting your week also works miracles - like having one day for meetings, one day for study, one day for doing absolutely nothing (or whatever you would like to do at the moment).
    It's like de-fragmenting an old hard drive - instead of having everything mashed up all over the place, you go through life in clean segments, saving lots energy otherwise spent on context switching.

      Got to say, the same, and this just reinforces in my mind, that he is a wise and aware gentleman, of the human condition. I try to do the same now, and honestly, I’m more stable, and people close to me have seen this. The moral is, be like Wilbur.

    I just needed this. I am currently in a conference with a lot of my old colleagues celebrating their achievements although I know they hate their lives. And I am leading a much simpler rewarding life full of friendship and support, yet without academic achievement. Somehow I felt guilty. But this video encouraged me to maintain my path.

    1. What is making me anxious?
    2. What has caused me pain and how?
    3. What is exciting me?

    Just remove toxic people from your life. Save up enough to depend on yourself. Life becomes simple. Even if thought pattern is complicated , one can still work on it peacefully. Start caring for yourself more which is difficuot thing to do for empaths passive people but they eventually learn

    "The planet is doomed"
    "People are dying"
    "Our leaders are incompetent"
    "Injustice Prevails"
    See this is why there is a saying "ignorance is bliss", after 1 month of not watching and reading any news, I'm happier!
